They get their sushi every Tuesday so I like to come Tuesday evening or Wednesday are my favorite days. The sushi bar people are amazing. They're very social and great at making sushi. Hibachi is pretty fun too. It's just that I don't like rice so I always get vegetables instead. The waitresses are super social and have a sense of humor. If you have allergies, you have to be very specific and mention it several times or you might get wheat or soy sauce in your meal. Use tamari and make it safe for everybody. This place is very difficult if you have any type of allergy to eat here other than sashimi. read more

The chef cooking in front of us did not smile or talk. Looked like he did not want to be there. This was a very disappointing experience especially for the prices charged. Not worth it at all and will not return. The only reason for the two star is the guy waiter we had was pleasant. read more

We eat here quite a bit. I have never had a bad experience. The owner, Wendy, will greet you at the door with a smile. It's rare to have the owner so present and show such authentic concern for her guests. We love the hibachi- they don't count and shoot alcohol down your throat while your kids watch with puzzled faces- I think that is ideal for a family restaurant. They will make onion volcanoes and make sure everyone has a good time. The sushi is excellent. Get the salmon toro if it's on the special menu - you will be glad you did! The sushi chefs had terrific personalities and I love it that my kids recognize them and can't wait to say "Hi". This is a classic Hudson go- to restaurant- probably the best place in town for the money. read more

Going downhill. Past few times we dined in or grabbed carry out it wasn't a pleasant experience. Kept giving them another chance and most recently experienced the following: restaurant was dirty, chicken served to my child was raw, steak tasted like it wasn't fresh, scallops not seared and undercooked, drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive, and bathroom was dirty with broken soap dispenser. Will not return there. Even though we got in there for our reservation on time, it was not what we expected. Our time was for 5:30 and we were seated next to the table being served. There was a grille in front of us which I had assumed would be used to cook our food. The cook instead cooked our food with those on his grille serving them first. The problem was that while everyone's meat course was being cooked at once the various rice and vegetables that he cooked for us cooled off because he failed to put them on our plates. We went to Otani for the first time last night. It was a Tuesday night. Not terribly busy in the restaurant but carry out was hopping. Staff was very friendly and took time taking orders. I did get the incorrect fried rice but it was fine. The sushi bar looked pretty good and was busy. The waiter cleaned between customers and looked very thorough. The shrimp fried rice had a lot of cut shrimp in the contents. The egg drop soup was tasty and served very hot. They don't have hot mustard which my dad enjoys. Hibachi is only available on weekends. The bar area looked fun and inviting. We will try it again. read more

Work in the areaa and one oF my employees said to try this out. I wasn't really that impressed. The soup was good. The salmon didn't have any taste. The yum yum sauce was not good at alll. We made reservations for 6pm tonight for 7 people at a hibachi table. Got there a bit early and they seat us in the back room. They said 5 more people were expected so we waited and then waited longer. It's 6:20 and no one is showing up. Then we're told we are waiting for the only hibachi chef there. After more waiting the chef shows up and did nothing special. Felt bad cause it was our friends first time at hibachi and the kids were looking forward to more interaction. Nothing. Stopped in for lunch while in the area. The décor was not your typical sushi bar setup as there is a bar on one side and a hibachi/dining area on the other. Opted for the miso soup which was on the larger side and had a nice flavor. I requested the Volcano and Rainbow rolls. It took nearly half an hour to get them. When they finally arrived I was surprised at this size as both were huge, but sadly this was mostly rice. The Rainbow Roll was not properly compressed and the entire roll kept falling apart as I picked it up and was difficult, due to the size, to eat each piece in one bite which lead to it further coming apart on the plate. It also used previously frozen tuna which did not have much flavor. It was almost impossible to taste the filling for the Volcano Roll as it was covered by a very large amount of mayonnaise (which in the menu was listed as baked sauce). I had to scrape of spoonful's to make it palatable and in the end I did not even bother to finish. It is obvious that whomever made the rolls has had little training in proper technique which would have prevented the rolls coming out over dressed and under-formed. read more

Great place for a fun hibachi night. Or if you're not in the mood for the cooking and knife throwing entertainment, their sushi is good and noodle bowls are great. The owners are really wonderful people and are fully involved in the restaurant, from making your food to pouring your drinks. The only thing I would change is their YumYum sauce. I miss the orangish sweet-salty YumYum sauce from other hibachi restaurants. But this is a FANTASTIC addition to the Hudson Food Scene and I love it every time we go. Thank you, Otani's! And don't forget to try the Asian Pear Martini when you're there! read more

Have not been to this establishment before. Very nice waitstaff and bartenders. Everyone checking on you to make sure you have what you need. Our food came quickly and was delicious. Otani is a pretty basic hibachi grill. The food is consistently decent if not overpriced. Sushi is a no-go here, clearly not the forte. Our visit on a Saturday night was a solid three star experience, waitstaff was overextended so everything was really really slow but the food was ok. Sushi order was way off from what I ordered and not overwhelmingly fresh either. Hibachi expectations were exceeded. A well cooked steak sautéed in butter, and a heaping pile of rice fried up with a bunch of butter and then you throw some mayo yum yum cream junk on top of it and it's decadent fat guy bliss. Chicken had a thick coating of the teriyaki, that may be an otani thing other hibachi places it's much lighter. Sauce just tasted too sweet. Would come back again with kids or maybe really old people who would be impressed by the ol onion volcano trick. read more

This was our go to place for sushi when visiting Hudson. Unfortunately we were disappointed for three reasons. First, although they looked like they had a nice selection of sake, my first two selections were not available. Second, their menu items, outside of their sushi was something I could have made at home and third, they did not honor a gift certificate we had. I absolutely love this place and wish it was closer to where I live so I could frequent it more often. Hubby and I sat at the Sushi bar for lunch and got to chat with the sushi chef while he created our orders. It was a WONDERFUL lunch experience. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I never had to ask for a drink refill and the service for everything else was just fantastic. Everyone was patient as I asked questions and super friendly. Sushi chefs seriously suck here. We ordered three chefs choice rolls. They were all three exactly the same. The last sushi chefs here created artful masterpieces varied and beautiful. Always surprised us. The current sushi chefs just don't care. We keep trying but they always turn out boring on menu sushi things that I could buy at giant eagle. Too bad. BRUTALLY overpriced sashimi for the quality. I paid $25 dollars for chirashi thinking it would be overflowing with different and high-quality fish. Nope. Four pieces of your garden variety fish (tuna, salmon, albacore, and yellowtail) with some tomago, ikura and avocado. I was stunned. If you charge that much for chirashi, you should be including scallop, spanish mackerel, snapper, etc. to make it worth the charge. The salad that came with the chirashi was browning on the edges and covered in what I assume was simply mayonnaise with some ginger in it. Awful. I will be returning to try the teppanyaki, but I will never eat sushi here again. read more

I had high expectations for this place after seeing previous reviews and hearing good things about it from friends. However, my personal experience was less than optimal. My first clue should have been the 4 minute wait in front of the hostess stand before someone acknowledged our presence and took us to a table. Once we were seated, we noticed that the restaurant was busy, but not overly crowded. Shortly after we were seated, a fairly pleasant waitress came over to take our beverage order. The beverages came out in a very reasonable amount of time, which I thought was a good sign of things to come. It was at this time that we placed our entree order. After ordering, we sat for a full 59 minutes before our food arrived. Throughout this entire waiting period, our beverage glasses were only filled once - having sat empty for 20 minutes at a time. When the food finally arrived, it was extremely underwhelming. The General Tso's chicken was not the least bit spicy. In fact, it was quite bland - to the point where I considered adding salt. Bottom line - from what I'm reading, it appears to be the place to go for sushi. Other than that, don't bother. read more

A few of us ordered sushi and everyone else ordered a dish. I ordered 2 rolls. Everyone got and finished their dinner before I even received my first roll. You would think mid way through my dinner the server would come and check on me to see if everything was fine or to atleast tell me my 2nd roll was on the way.. Sadly he didnt. I ordered a dynamite and a volcano roll. The rolls were huge only because it was all rice and very little fish. We sat down at 7 and were finished by 930. The entire restaurant was cleared out. The only reason I rated this 3 stars is because the place does have a good atmosphere.. it was clean, nice, and a good location. I also gave it another point for having live music. read more

This place is a gem. First, this is the only really good japanese food I have found in Northeastern Ohio. The tako salad was divine, sushi rolls were great (though it was pricey for the special rolls, they were HUGE to make up for it, and the regular sushi and rolls were average price), nabeyaki udon was almost perfect (I wish there had been more types of vegetables in it, but everything else was right), and the hibachi was flawless. Just the right portion, reasonably priced as hibachi goes, and everything tasted great (not too greasy like many hibachi places). The service was superb. I cannot recommend this place enough. Apparently, they have karaoke on Wednesdays, and I can't wait to go! p.s. It was completely empty when we went on a Tuesday night around 8:30pm, but I hear it gets CRAZY on weekends, and there are only two hibachi tables right now, so if you want to go, I recommend you make a reservation. read more
