    Southwestern roll with side salad
    Nicki M.

Nice place to grab some lunch and sit outside with a group! The service was great, prompt, refilled drinks without being asked and even took a group pic for us- I always am grateful for that! I ordered a southwestern roll and was offered healthy side alternatives. It was delicious but not any hint of southwestern. My hubby had the buffalo chicken wrap and really that.

I came here with a group of friends for dinner last week. I had heard a lot about this place so was really looking forward to finally trying it. It's kind of a hole in the wall in Mountain Brook. The bar/restaurant itself was kind of small. Since our party was pretty big, we had to sit in their outside patio area. The servers were nice, but service was a bit slow having to wait a good bit to flag down our server to take our food orders. He didn't write anything down, but he got all of our orders right. Kudos to him! I ordered their Club Salad. It was delicious. So much meat and cheese! It's a huge serving too!

    Burger and Fries...not onion rings

Otey's is a basic bar, trying to be a little bit more. They lack attention to detail. I knew I was in trouble when our server (the name Nicole was on the check) asked us about drinks, we asked for a Michelob ultra and an unsweet iced tea - she brought the beer, and within 60 seconds forgot what the second drink was. This was not a busy time of day, it was 5:30 p.m., and the restaurant was at about 50% of capacity. I ordered the cheeseburger with onion rings, and she put it in to the kitchen as a cheeseburger and fries. She asked how we'd like our burgers done - we both asked for medium, one came out rare and one came out well done. We're the kind of people who usually lean towards a five-star review for everything, servers and local businesses need as much promotion as possible. Unfortunately the whole experience was sub par, even waiting for about 15 minutes after our dishes were cleared by a busboy before we asked another waitress to help us get our check. Otey's feels like one of those places designed around their regulars. Outside, there was the smoking crew. Inside there were people who all seem to know each other. As this was only my second time to Otey's in the past year, I can only assume that our service level was worse because we're not regulars. It's unfortunate, but I do not see any reason to go back.

If you are looking for a laid back, friendly bar with great munchies and food, you have found your place. Otey's is the quintessential neighborhood bar/hangout. Live music, patio, no snooty fancy craft cocktails, and great food. Thumbs up in our book. If you are having a snack/munchies attack and need a little something in your belly ;) order the mozzarella sticks with chili cheese.... I know... I know... but trust me...

I am pretty picky, so finding a place where I genuinely like the whole plate is rare. The inside has a clean and calm vibe, which I love. It is bright and feels welcoming without being loud or chaotic. I dined in, and the service was quick and friendly. They also make it really easy to spot vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options, which is helpful for people who want something lighter or have specific preferences. Overall, I would definitely come back. It is simple, fresh, and dependable, and the food actually tastes good without trying to be fancy. My husband ordered the Rueben sandwich and I ordered the flounder cake plate. I ordered the chicken poppers plate for my kids to share. After we sat down, requested a high chair and got our drinks, we were informed that flounder cakes were out. I adjusted to the spice rubbed chicken but there was no price refund or any type of service recovery. The food arrived in two batches. I asked for a non breakable plate for my one year old and was pleasantly surprised by a kids plate. The chicken (both poppers and spice rubbed) was very dry. I see now why every plate comes with a sauce. The best thing was the fried green tomatoes and pastry arts cake in a cup $4 they sell. Bathrooms have a big toilet and a small kids toilet along with a changing table.

High ceilings and exposed brick are a few of the ways to my heart. If you've seen a post about this place, you've probably seen a picture of the crackly round, artistic dish and wondered what it was. There are dumplings on the underside of it and you break each one off of the crackly part to enjoy. We did enjoy these but I would've loved a soy sauce to dip them in. They came with chili crunch, peanuts, and green onions but I wanted an actual sauce. They were very standard tasting dumplings and there was nothing extraordinary about them unfortunately. As always, we'd looked at the menu beforehand and decided what we wanted. It does state on their website that their menus can change due to freshness and availability. But we'd both decided on an app and entree we wanted only to get there and have none of them on the menu. I do appreciate a rotating menu to accommodate local items, but I would also love for those to be updated on a regular basis. So after rerouting, we decided on the chicken skewers as another app with the dumplings. These were chargrilled, flavorful, and had a nice crust on them. I got shrimp fried rice and Julia got spicy beef noodles. It was fine but I wish the shrimp wouldn't have been cut up. It felt like they chopped them up in order to not put as many in the dish. At $25 for this, I'd like whole shrimp please. There were a few pieces of raw spinach with pepper on the top. I would've loved a sauce of some kind. I would've preferred shrimp hibachi with fried rice from a Japanese place that included vegetables and sauces. This was not *bad* there was just SO much room for improvement. We both agreed that nothing was awful, but for these prices and the hype, we expected more. Our waitress was super friendly. Bonus points because they had match boxes at the host stand! There was a paid parking lot diagonal from the restaurant, so we had to walk through an intersection to get there. There are some spots up front if you can snag one. Overall, we enjoyed our time here but won't be sprinting back.

I was horribly mistaken. Everything I tried was absolutely incredible. For appetizers, I tried the BBQ miso chicken, seeded yeast rolls, and burrata. The BBQ miso chicken was tender thigh meat served on a skewer and topped with peanuts (so definitely something to be aware of if you have an allergy). It also came with a few spicy pickles that were delicious. The seeded yeast rolls were perfectly baked; light, airy, and served with cane syrup whipped butter. That butter was out of this world phenomenal. I could have eaten it by itself! For dinner, I had the sweet corn ravioli. It came in a large bowl with A LOT of rich, creamy sauce. There was so much sauce that I actually asked for a spoon and basically ate it like soup. Not a complaint whatsoever because it was absolutely delicious. The only letdown for me was dessert. I was really looking forward to an authentic Southern banana pudding, but there was an unexpected peanut flavor, not what I was expecting at all. I was hoping for more of that classic banana-and-vanilla flavor. The ambiance was also really cool-dark, moody, and almost gave me an Alice in Wonderland kind of feel. Our server was 10/10, and the manager stopped by several times to check on us. They were also incredibly accommodating to a coworker with food allergies, which I really appreciated. Overall, this place completely exceeded my expectations. I went in thinking I probably wouldn't find much I liked and left genuinely impressed. Definitely a memorable meal!

Both were delicious. The shrimp was fresh and cold. The chicken was unique as it had peanuts with the sauce. I had the crispy flounder sandwich with fries and my friend ordered the Panzanella salad with shrimp. The fish was hot and crispy and well seasoned.
