Great food! Service was fantastic, Virginia was great!!! Steak was cooked to perfection!

We made a reservation for a Tuesday evening to take part of their 3 course $60 pre fix menu. We were seated in the atrium area, we had hoped we would be since we were very careful about dress code. The atrium area is a large open area, lots of plants and a cool skylight. Our server Crystal was very kind and friendly. My husband started with adding a whiskey drink which while he enjoyed he said he wasn't able to catch the flavors and notes of peach etc that he should have. With the pre-fix menu we both decided to start with the ceaser salad, and we loved it! It was a neat presentation and was delicious. Next up, we both got a 6oz steak which was very good, I decided to add cremini mushrooms to my steak, and they were delicious! The steak was cooked perfectly and was very tasty. He opted for mashed potatoes and I selected creamed spinach as my side. After trying them both I'm torn on which I like best, be he said he liked the potatoes the best! Last was the dessert, I went with the bread pudding and he picked the cheesecake-they were both delicious but my bread pudding was the favorite overall! If you can make a reservation to take advantage of this special I definitely recommend doing so, you won't be disappointed! I would still suggest coming in, even without the special as the steak is truly delicious. read more

Yes yes yes!!! I finally got the chance to try this chain while on a business trip to Birmingham and it was quite nice. The location notwithstanding, the service was very attentive and the food was excellent! The cowboy ribeye may have been the best steak I've ever had. Yep it's date night at Ruth Chris! Bae and I are ready too. We were set down immediately on a reservation. It's Friday Night and it looks like We have this joint all to ourselves. Bae got the Porterhouse steak, mash potatoes and we shared spinach and sweet potato casserole's I got the 0pork chop with lyonnaise potatoes. We had bread and butter too. Ruth Chris is a high end, but this food has changed. I have always said there is no better pork chop in town. Well, I lied. This stuff is dry and apples are not done. Spinach is spoiled, I sent that back to the kitchen. It will definitely be a while before I make it back. Thanks to Joseph he was the only bright light during our visit. read more

This is our ONLY choice to get a perfectly cooked filet in Birmingham. We've tried the other places that come and go. I've had people recommend others (that I won't name here ) but if you want a good filet mignon -imho Ruth Chris is the only one that in Birmingham ! nobody else can touch this place! We just celebrated our 22nd anniversary and this is the place I always pick , I've picked a couple places 10 years ago or so. I've always been disappointed and wish I've gone to Ruth Chris. We usually always go at 4 PM because we're old - but we're always seated easily and it's very calm time of the day to go. read more

Feb. 14, 2026 Server was highlight of the evening. Pleasant, Friendly, Efficient even under the increased customer demands of that evening. Wife ordered Salmon, she was pleased with the serving size and taste. Said it was better than the Salmon she had in Alaska a few months ago. I ordered Ribeye, medium rare. Steak received was actually medium, with a portion close to Medium Well. Server offered to refire another steak but due to time restraints that wasn't an option. We shared Au Gratin potatoes which I found to be a bit runny, and lacking in cheese. This experience at Ruth's Chris this evening did not meet my personal expectations based on experiences from other premium steakhouse like Morton's, Fleming's, Capital Grill, or even previous visits to Ruth's. Maybe the volume of customers on that day over ran the kitchen, but for the price of the meal, the experience was disappointing. I'm sure we'll give the restaurant at least one more visit again, before making it off our list, but this visit I consider a loss. read more

Another excellent dinner at Ruth's Chris. Service was top notch. We got the fix prix which includes salad or soup, entree with one side and dessert. I got the seafood gumbo to start. It was really good and had a lot of seafood. I really enjoyed it. For dinner I got the 6 oz filet with lobster tail. My filet was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The lobster tail was melt in your mouth. I really enjoyed it. Garlic mashed potatoes were good too. Hot bread and butter served before your meal was a nice accompaniment. For dessert, I got the chocolate cheesecake which was delightful. Even had some left to take home. Hubby enjoyed his too but he got the 9 oz filet which was very thick and was raw in the middle so it had to go back twice to get the cook right. Outside wound up very charred. Disappointing for him. The restaurant is inside a hotel but the hotel is beautiful on the inside and the restaurant itself is really nice. Very nice. Great for date night. read more

Group dinner on a weeknight. It took a while to seat us, even longer to have our drink orders taken, and more than an hour after seating to receive entrees. We were all starving and ravishing the bread baskets in the meantime and my drink was gone by the time entrees arrived. Sides came when the entrees were almost finished. The location is a little weird, essentially in the open courtyard of an Embassy Suites hotel. The sea bass was excellent. The mashed potatoes were OK. The lobster mac and cheese was good. The brussel sprouts were meh. While our server was friendly, for the price and the brand, I expected a better overall experience. read more

I hate writing this review for what was once my favorite restaurant. We like to celebrate birthdays and special occasions here because of the professional service and great food. Sadly this wasn't the same Ruth's Chris experience. The restaurant was not busy at all for a Friday night but service was very slow. A man, who we assume was a manager came by our table and asked if he could get us some bread because "we looked hungry". He said he noticed we had been waiting a while for our food. We all ordered filets cooked medium rare and they were all cooked medium with very little butter. The au gratin potatoes were bland with very little cheese and Brussels sprouts were burnt. We were unaware that Ruth's Chris has been acquired by the Darden family of restaurants. Sadly things have changed for the worse and Ruth's Chris is suffering for it. read more

Ordered the wedge salad and a piece of chicken to go with it, the wedge was way too small for $14.00. There must be a mass shortage of iceberg lettuce for this salad portion to be $14. I would suggest not eating here, especially if you staying at the hotel, just go somewhere else. read more

My husband and I had an anniversary dinner last week at Ruth's Chris. Good food and service should go hand in hand, especially at a high end restaurant. From the beginning, we had a waitress who was over attentive, even after we told her we wanted drinks and to relax before ordering. After ordering, our entrees were served before the salads. Entrees were sent back then when served after salads, husband's steak was wel done after ordering it medium rare. This was sent back. He removed two grilled shrimp that came with the steak, thinking they would bring two fresh shrimp with the steak. No more shrimp were brought and the ones he saved were cold. When tasting my lobster, it was cold and had to be sent back. Also, side dish of creamed potatoes were stone cold. The 2nd steak served to my husband, looked like a sausage pattie - this was a filet and I have never seen one so flat. Before desserts were brought, the waitress said she knew we had several issues and wanted to know if there was anything she could do to make things better. I asked if a drink could be comped, she checked with the manager and was told no. All in all, a disappointing evening which has never happened here before. I left a review the next day after being contacted by the restaurant to give a review, and never heard back from them. I went to Ruth's Chris for my birthday this year, and it was my first time visiting. I had been so excited for weeks after seeing the $55 three-course meal advertised on their website, Facebook, and TikTok. The deal included an appetizer, entrée, and dessert, which sounded perfect for a nice birthday dinner. Unfortunately, things didn't go quite as expected. When I looked at the menu, I didn't see the deal that was promoted everywhere. I asked our waitress--who I will say was very kind, attentive, and informative--about it, and she explained that the $55 menu wasn't being offered. Instead, the options listed were salmon, filet, or fish--none of which matched what was advertised online (which showed stuffed chicken and steak as the main course options). To make things worse, they were also out of the stuffed chicken and the ingredients for the lemon drop we ordered. They replaced it with a pomegranate version, which was good, but still disappointing since I had specifically planned for what I saw online. The bread was also a bit too hard for my liking, though I did enjoy the lamb chops and Caesar salad. As for the price, I expected to spend around $70 per person for four people, based on the three-course meal deal (which included dessert) and drinks. However, our bill came out to over $600--way more than expected. We paid without hesitation, but it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Overall, the waitress was great, but the misleading advertisement and lack of menu availability made this birthday dinner a letdown. I'm not sure if I'd return. 2.5 star review. read more

We stayed at the Embassy Suites over the Talladega weekend and decided to grab some steaks at Ruth Chris's. Located in the hotel, shares the large indoor atrium space along the fountains and Koi ponds. Reservations were required and could only get a 5PM seating time so this location does get a good amount of business. Servers and wait staff were excellent with Alex picking out a "chefs choice" of cocktails for the party. Their dirty martini was one of the best our party had and the fried oysters were excellent. We all opted for the prefix menu with filets, grilled shrimp, gumbo, and salads. The food was great, well put together, but everything we had was so rich that I actually had to leave part of my steak uneaten. The steak was cooked perfectly to a medium-rare on a plate of browned butter. We opted for the broccoli and mashed potato sides which were also excellent, but again were really rich with flavor. Nothing was good but my salad and drink. The food was trash. My husband drink was salty as if the margarita salt was shaken in the drink. My stuffed chicken was dry and my husband's ribeye was medium and it was still dry it's no way he should've needed steak sauce for a Ruth Chris steak. We could've enjoyed longhorn better. I know the restaurant is old but they may need to get new carpet I sat at the bar and it smelled weird . 3/10 would not recommend. It wasn't just me the couple next to us were complaining about food being burnt and the husband never even received his food because it took so long. read more

This review is all about EXPECTATIONS! I have been lucky enough to spend most of my adult life traveling the country with an expense account in my back pocket. I know, it's tough but somebody's got to do it. I have visited dozens and dozens, if not hundreds of chain fine-dining steakhouses. In that world, RC is a major player and I have enjoyed at least twenty of them. It was time to visit this one. My EXPECTATIONS were 5 stars, and they were met with one caveat! Atmosphere- This RC is a little unusual as it kind of sort of merges with the atrium of an Embassy Suites. That means there are really TWO atmospheres! Inside the restaurant is typical RC. Beautiful refined and conducive to fine dining. The atrium section is another world and one that I don't want to visit. It can be very noisy and is not the RC experience many of us know and love. EXPECTATIONS = 5 stars inside and 4 stars, (or even less) outside. Pro Tip- Sit inside even if you need to wait longer for a table. That's what my dining partner and I did. Pricing- My beautiful foodie daughter is a huge RC fan. She calls them spendy and that's a great term. I tell people that ask to set aside at least $100+ per person. My dining partner and I each had an entry. We shared two sides and had a total of four drinks. No soup, salad, or dessert. Of course, we had amazing bread. Our tab was almost exactly $200. With a very generous tip for excellent service, it went considerably over $200. EXPECTATIONS = Expected. Service- Why write three paragraphs when all it takes is two sentences. Outstanding! EXPECTATIONS = Met = 5 Stars. Food- As they usually are, RC was at the top of their game tonight! Hot crusty bread. Perfectly cooked steak and seafood. Decadent sides. Beautifully crafted drinks. It was Med but that wasn't the restaurant's fault. My meal was still very warm, delicious and enjoyable. I wished I had requested extra sauce for my crab cake plus their fresh bread. The restaurant was in the middle of a lobby of hotel rooms. Which was just not expected, and pretty weird. There was a waterfall but overall kind of smelly. The waitress we had was super kind and nice, however for a ten top she barely got any help... The food... horrible 0/10. The calamari was soggy and looked like it sat for a while. I come here once a year for a Christmas staff dinner. My experience this year was way better than last year. The lobster tail is delicious. Highly recommend the Caesar salad. It was sent back once, and came back still very rare, just a touch more cooked. I ended up settling for it as I was starved at that point, I had waited a while, and it was late. Again, my server was very apologetic and the manager offered a free dessert, but the dessert never arrived after waiting 30+ minutes and I chose to just check out. Brought the parents and my Gma here for a late Valentine's Sunday dinner. I'd never been here before, so I was excited to try. The restaurant is located in the Homewood Embassy Suites. Both are quite dated in decor, but the restaurant is still kept up nicely. We were seated over the koi pond which was a cute touch. Our waiter, Micheal, was friendly and attentive as they are trained to be. We ordered stuffed mushrooms and BBQ shrimp for apps. We enjoyed them both, although I was a little disappointed with the portion sizes. All items are a la carte except a couple of special deals that they offer. I ordered a deal that gave me soup or salad, my entree of shrimp and 6 oz steak, and one personal side. I selected the lobster bisque as my soup but I did not like it. I think it was the cooking wine in it. Michael swapped it for a Ceasar salad. The BEST Ceasar salad I've ever had! For the family- share sides, we chose asparagus, sweet potato casserole, au gratin potatoes, and creamed spinach. As a group, we liked them all. I personally didn't care for the creamed spinach but we all agreed that the sweet potato casserole was the WINNER! I will get my own next time... it tastes like dessert! This is a place my family and I visit for birthdays. This year will be the last time. Making the reservation was great however, the food was the worst I've had. First, the salads came out with no onions or croutons, then we were told they were out. They had egg but charged extra for that. The sweet potato casserole was burnt and my streak was well done when I asked for medium rare. The second one came out rare. We spent as a whole about 900 or more for about eight people. First let me start off by saying I have eaten at Ruth's Chris many times at several locations in 3 states and every time, the food has been spot on delicious. No complaints here. We chose to order from the 3 course menu. Both of us ordered the 6oz steak cooked medium with a lobster tail, Caesar salad, creamed spinach and broccoli and for desert cheese cake with a strawberry topping. As an appetizer, we ordered the lump crabmeat (there were 2). Pictures below. As for the service at this particular location- our server was very friendly, however she didn't seem polished when trying to answer questions about the wine list stating that they had a really good wine in a big bottle with a family name on it but didn't know the name of the family. she did however bring the list to our table to review. Also when going over the desert list she mentioned they may have some "leftovers" of one of the items (I believe it was mousse), which didn't make it sound too appetizing. Again she was very nice and we did tip her well. Not sure if she was a new server but a suggestion - maybe retrain her how to present the product(s). This location was in a hotel. Part of the restaurant was in a dim lit area and part in a courtyard type setting. We were in the courtyard setting. If we go back, which we most likely will as we really like the food, I would request the dim lit area as the courtyard (which was pretty) is directly under the many floors of hotel rooms and a little noisy for me. Horrible experience. Waited 40 minutes to get seated for a 6:15 reservation. Then waited 2 hours for food. When it came out 4/5 steaks were inedible due to being dry and tough. We had them remove 2 steaks as we didn't have time to wait on them to fail on 2 more. I asked the waitress how much longer on our food and she said she would bring it out when it was ready. After receiving the crappy food she apologized. I asked what was going on and she almost started crying. She said they were understaffed and overbooked. No manager came out to apologize, they just leave the waiters to face the music. We dropped $500+ that wasn't even up to Outback standards. I called the restaurant the next day to speak to the manager and they never called me back. I go to the one in Baton Rouge all the time and it is so much better. Obviously the owner, manager doesn't care. Just please do not waste your time or y or time on this place. Update March 2: I called the restaurant the next day, Feb 22, and asked to speak to the owner/ manager. I was told they wouldn't be in until the following day but I left my number for them to call back and I never heard back. I also sent an email to the owner and have yet to hear back. Her reply to me below is all for show to the people who read these reviews. It is insulting to be asked to call to discuss when I have already called and emailed her . Went tonight for my birthday. It was horrible. It took 1.5 hours to receive food after ordering. The waiter, who was nice, appeared to be spread thin handling tables so it caused him to not be able to be available to us as needed. Went specifically for the lobster mac n cheese... they ran out and didn't advise until after the food came out. The lemonade was sour and bitter. The food once we received it was... okay.... Sara the waitress was wonderful she tried very hard to please. The restaurant smelled like body odor and was musty. The food was terrible I have had better steaks a longhorn I had the bone in fillet it was tuff and flavor was just not there at all. We also had the calamari it was not very good ether. The blueberry mojitos was fantastic but it did not have mint in it. They were out of mint and they were out of a lot of things. The food took more than an hour to come out. I heard they were short handed. They were also out of most of the desserts. There are far better options in Birmingham than there were 20-30 years ago. It time for this place to shut down. Kristen was extremely warm and friendly when she approached as I reviewed the menu. I wanted to select items that would not suffer in transit. Everything was still extremely hot when I arrived home later. The roasted stuffed chicken was absolutely delicious, juicy and the skin was still crispy even after being steamed in the tight to-go container. The stuffing was amazing. I could have it and their wonderful freshly baked bread as an alternative to an appetizer any day! I started to get their vegetables platter but will probably get it soon. Their Sweet Potato side dish is topped with a Pecan crumble. It was light, not to much butter or sweetness to make it a dessert. Nonetheless it's pure southern goodness. A loaf of bread and butter rounded out my outstanding dinner! I had craved their bread for awhile. I've failed to stopped simply because I'm usually under dressed for the environment when nearby. As I had jeans, t-shirt and sneakers on today, I was self conscious but the staff still was polite and gracious. Ruth Chris' atmosphere is not the place to dine looking like I did today. I will order in advance rather than sit in the bar dressed as I was today. It is an establishment perfect for after work drinks or meeting friends. Unfortunately it seems like my favorite items is no longer offered. The lobster bisque has been replaced with seafood gumbo. I was disappointed because their bisque was delicious, so I will try the gumbo next time. All in my dinner was outstanding and delicious. I suggest it to anyone looking for takeout dinner from an old reliable restaurant. I strongly suggest it for a celebration meal with a significant other, the extended family and a group of friends as well. I knew my chicken was going to be roasted freshly when my order was submitted, so I didn't note the time I placed the order. I wasn't upset by the time at all.
