The red snapper was a highlight, crispy and had a light broth served along with a side of coconut rice and lime. We had the sizzling fajita dish was delicious! I would have preferred for the chicken and steak to be sliced thicker than it was but it was good nonetheless. De Mole was a nice affordable spot for brunch. The prices on the menus on yelp are outdated, so they are a little pricier but doesn't break the bank. I got a carnitas hash, which tasted good; however, it felt like if a bunch of veggies and meats were sautéed on a pan and given to me in a bowl. Other dishes we got were the carne asada and huevos ranchero. Those dishes were amazing - especially the rice and beans. They were some of the best sides I have had! I called about 20 minutes prior to my arrival to make sure they could accommodate a table for 7 (5 adults 2 children). Upon our arrival, the table was already set up and awaiting us. There was one person working alone as the waiter, the bartender. And answering the phones. I didn't catch his name but he deserves a raise! He handled all the tables including ours flawlessly. My only complaint was that several items we asked for they didn't have. Can't remember them all but one was the chamomile mezcal for a drink we wanted to try. No taco salad that i had seen on Yelp. The service, food, drinks and environment was GREAT. This is my first time visiting and we ordered the unlimited brunch and drinks. For those of you who are still hesitant on coming to this restaurant it's $56 for the ALL THE FOOD AND DRINKS you can eat on the brunch menu. That literally means you can order and reorder anything you see in that menu. So they serve you the food in order that's listed on the menu and throughout an AMAZING waiter will serve you any drink you want! You can mix and match the drinks as well and there's even flavored margaritas that's not on the menu that's also included: mango, passion fruit and strawberries. Plus, the waiter was soooooo nice. He was so attentive and was always filling my drink. I dont think my cup was ever empty because he was always checking our table. My only regret was not getting his name....I would've given him a shout out. After you are served everything on the menu you can reorder anything you want. Additionally, next time you visit the restaurant, you can skip over the items you did not like the first time an focus on your favorite foods- I do recommend you take pictures of everything so you'll remember what you liked the most. Things I love about the menu - vegetarian options, vegan options, brown rice option and wheat tortilla options. And reasonably priced. Shrimp tacos are not on the menu but we requested it. I ordered 3 tacos but 2 probably would've been fine since I had chips and guacamole already. Very flavorful, albeit kinda small. The chicken taquito is another good dish. It's a good appetizer for sharing. Not too oily and it comes in six pieces. They have these sauces on the table, a green and red sauce that you can put on your food for more flavor. Surprisingly, the green sauce is terrible. No taste and very watery. Thankfully the red sauce is good. Had a nice kick to it. We doused our food with the red sauce. Overall, we found the food to be fresh, simple and honest with good vegetarian options. Family outings to grab Mexican food (Mole) was the goal for one of us. The ambiance could use some uplifting, but that is ok if the food is fire. Unfortunately, it wasn't ordered fajitas for ($28) all meats, and when it came out, there was little meat on the skillet. This was the steak, chicken, and shrimp fajitas. An Authentic Mexican restaurant with lots of vegan options. They give you a complimentary small serving of homemade salsa and chips. The salsa is really good, so fresh tasting. A special on the menu: Chile en Nogada $8, which means chilies in walnut sauce. A dish with roasted poblano pepper stuffed with ground pork/ beef, pine nuts and dried fruits (apricot, raisins, cranberry, fig, pineapple). Then coated with a walnut and goat cheese sauce, and garnished with pomegranate seeds and parsley. This dish was like nothing I've ever had before at other Mexican restaurants. It's pretty delicious with all the different flavors and textures. Hot Mexican chocolate. Good. It had a nice earthy taste and slight sweetness to it. Slightly grainy in texture. Usually Mexican chocolate is made with roasted and ground cacao nibs, sugar, cinnamon and maybe nutmeg, allspice and chilies. Chicken taco. Strips of marinated white meat chicken with onions and cilantro with your choice of red or green sauce. Personally I prefer the green. Tasty. Chicken tender. Two of these and I'm usually full. Spinach sincronizada was brimming with freshness. A good amount of spinach, topped with some shredded lettuce and dice tomatoes. Cut into 4 slices for easy transition into my mouth. Sincronizadas look like quesadillas but are actually not. They are very similar, but sincronizadas are made from wheat flour tortillas. Quesadillas are made from corn. The corn kernels are cooked with lime, then ground with a grinding stone, then formed and flattened into tortillas. Cactus taco. If you've never had cactus before, this is a good place to try it. Let's start with the ambience clean warm cozy. The service prompt polite and gracious. As you know I'm a field foodie the sangria was very tasty not overpowering with alcohol. My boyfriend ordered the fish and chicken tacos and I ordered the ribeye steak medium well. My meal was tantalizing just by the look and when I got a bite of my perfectly cooked medium well ribeye I began to see life differently. Never in my wildest dreams would I think I would find a perfectly good steak in this restaurant. My boyfriends tacos were really good as well so they were definitely worth the visit. We were deciding where to eat after visiting my cousin in the neighborhood, and after a Yelp search of Mexican restaurants we decided to check out De Mole Astoria due to the fact that it offered Seitan Vegetarian options, the attractive photos and high reviews. Tip: De Mole Astoria does not serve alcohol. We visited on a quiet mid-evening Sunday and the restaurant was fairly quiet as well, with a few patrons having dinner. The restaurant was nicely decorated, cozy and intimate. The wait staff was very friendly, attentive and accommodating as well, and the restaurant generally had a calm, relaxing vibe where you can enjoy yourself and have good conversations. Unfortunately, the food was very underwhelming in my opinion, and while pictures of the dishes looked delicious, they did not meet expectations after trying them. We ordered the De Mole Nachos (Corn chips with black beans, cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream) ($5.75). My cousin ordered the steak on the side since I am vegetarian, which brings the price up to $9.00, however I am discounting the meat since I did not try it. In terms of the nachos, we were surprised at how small of a portion they were. My cousin also made a comment about the nachos not being prepared, with the seperate ingredients on the bowl lined atop with the corn chips, however I did not mind this as much. The nachos weren't bad, but certainly not worth the price in terms of portion or taste. We also ordered the Espinaca Sincronizadas (Quesadillas with Sauteed Garlic Spinach, Monterrey Jack and Blanco Cheese, lettuce and pico de gallo) ($8 w/ larger size) as an appetizer. Surprisingly, this came out well after we received our entrees and after having to remind our waiter. The quesadillas were actually a much larger portion than we expected, and while the spinach was overtly watery with water spilling out, I enjoyed it with the hot sauce and guacamole/ sour cream from my fajita dish). In regards to the entree, I was excited to try the "fake meat" or seitan and decided to try the Seitan Fajita (Wheat Meat, Sauteed Garlic Spinach, Rice, Guacamole, Pico De Gallo, Sour Cream and Flour Tortillas) ($14). This was frankly not very good--the seitan had an interesting taste in the way it was seasoned and the spinach was fairly bland, but the meal was tolerable by mixing the various ingredients and adding a lot of hot sauce. I've been to so many Mexican restaurants it's really difficult to keep track, however Mole has some unique features that sets it apart from the rest. Its cozy and small. It doesn't take itself too serious and offers authentic delicious Mexican food. I'm disappointed that there is no alchohol... that's a big No No for me. When you go out to eat an immerse yourself in a particular environment a great selection of alcohol makes a world of difference. That's the only reason it lost a star, other than that it's an above average Mexican restaurant at a great price. read more
