The night before the apt, we get a call saying the guy can't come Monday, have to reschedule for Thursday. Okay fine, shit happens. Guy shows up Thursday and there's negative attitude from the get go, apparently because we never should have ordered the part ourselves. He asks how we installed the "parts". My wife explains that there was 1 assembly, not multiple parts. Answer not good enough. He actually starts arguing with my wife IN MY HOUSE. Mr "I've fixed 600 dishwashers" doesn't know that you can get one complete sump assembly (we got ours from Regional Factory Parts & Service on Antares). By this point, my wife is completely stressed. He tells her that there's a minimum $250 charge. Okaaay, nobody told us that when we made the appointment; only that there's a $75 fee to have somebody show up and that the $75 will offset the final price if we approve the repair. So now they already have $75 of our money. We've been washing dishes by hand for 6 weeks and just want the thing fixed ...so she tells him to go ahead. Turns out the problem was that we hadn't treated the gasket ring with dishwasher soap so poor seal. Who knew? Guy reassembles in 1/2 hr and dishwasher working. So, with tax, it's just cost us $282 (incl tax) for half hour of work. So why am I giving these guys 1 star? 1 reason: shit customer experience. If I had known that there was a flat $250 fee when I first called, and given that I don't need any new parts, I would have called someone else. Comically, the manager I spoke to afterward told me it would have been more expensive if I had gone with someone that charges hourly rate. So there's appliance repair joints charging $500+ /hr? I was born at night but it wasn't last night. Add to that the unwelcome blowback from the technician and, needless to say, we will never do business with ARB again. Couple of pro tips, guys: 1) the customer is always right, 2) when the customer is wrong, see #1.
