I have had a lot of dealings with BRHS over the years. Most importantly, I adopted two cats from…read morethem. The process was smooth and took just a few minutes. The cats were healthy, had been chipped, and we're up to date on their shots. Nine years later, my girls are still going strong! I have volunteered there as well. Their Kibble Crew works very hard to bag hundreds of pounds of dog and cat food to give away to the community. I can't imagine how much food has been given out. The shelter is always clean. The staff there is knowledgeable and their top priority is the animals. I recommend them every chance I get.

What a lovely safe haven for precious animals waiting for forever homes. Very clean and animals…read moredon't look stressed here. It's smaller than most shelters but that seems to lend itself to less stress & more attention to the animals. They have an adult cat room that is filled with plush beds and outdoor access. On the wall there are magnetic pics of who is for adoption with a professional picture & their name. There is a separate kitten room where the antics are captivating. Dogs are separated far enough away from cats to minimize any anxiety. The staff is very friendly and helpful, willing to give any info they can on a particular animal. I highly recommend this Humane Society if you are looking for a fur-ever companion. They also have a thrift store you can donate and buy an array of great finds from. The store is located in city of Hendersonville

WORST PLACE EVER !!!! Absolutely disgusted with them. If I could give negative stars I would !…read moreTurned in two strays with writing saying on both dogs intake paper work to call me if they don't pass a behavioral test and also that when they are spayed and neutered or if they are having any issues with them that we will come and adopt them and was told by multiple staff that I would get a phone call and it was silence I was very nice when I asked for an update phone call saying I know yall are busy and a lot going on I just want to know if these dogs are ready to be adopted... I get a call a week later toray now for the first time after they have been there for almost a month that they KILLED the dog I was going to adopt. No phone call no email no nothing just me asking to be updated on them for 2 weeks for a call multiple times to see what was going on and got nothing until they finally felt to call me a week after they KILLED him and told me he was put down for being aggressive... this dog in the time we watched him from finding him as a stray and him living with us for almost 4 weeks he didn't hurt us or anyone else or even try to. he never growled at nothing. Again no phone call asking if I can get him before they make a permanent decision and end a young dogs life that had a guaranteed home. We turned in 2 wonderful stray dogs wanting a shot at life and love nursed them back to health and just needed them to get them checked out and fixed so we can move to a bigger house to fit and adopt them ... we were going to adopt both the 28th of this month and what we got back from them after we left today one dead and the other sick. We're heart broken absolutely devastated. If you find a stray and ever have hopes of adopting it or seeing it again DONT TAKE THEM HERE PLEASE DONT TAKE THEM !!! They are heartless and I asked why I was never called all I got was nothing from them !!! Heartless and not a very "humane " society.

Before you all get defensive please let me tell you what the Asheville Humane Society did to me…read moreafter all I did for them as a devoted volunteer. The PAID STAFF are simply the coldest rudest Humans I have ever worked with. They treat volunteers horribly. Rude and heartless. I fostered my kitty Debra and then adopted her. Not one of them ever mentioned or asked about her. I sent a few photo to them and was told never do that again. That the message thread was strictly for business only. What planet are they on? I Knitted many ADOPTION blankets that went home with the babies and really helped them feel loved and cared for. The staff made very little of it and hardly thanked me although I do it for the precious animals and not for humans. I never said no to anything asked of me and always showed up for my volunteer work never did I miss. Even did my Birthday fundraiser on Facebook and made money for them. I was treated so poorly that I cried many times by myself while driving home. I now volunteer for another wonderful rescue and shelter in the area and it's like a breath of fresh air. Although the Asheville Humane Society has and does help many precious bundles of joy I will say that they do it and get highly paid for that. You can go online and see their salaries. Volunteers‍ ‍ to them are invaluable and they don't care anything about us. It's all about the money . I refuse to put up with human bull crap including so called animal rescues. I will be the change this world wishes to see even if it means telling the truth and being an outcast. The universe is what serve and not silly egotistical humans. Ali Volunteer Manager, Kat relocation manager, Erin and Evie Foster Manager who check you out while filling out the paperwork in the street and not inside the facility even if u work there and Tina the adoption manager who told me in her own words "she had no idea what she was doing" after not even knowing that my kitty I was adopting had already been spayed while checking us out are just a few of the staff who have no class and obviously were not raised well and had a poor upbringing. No one should ever have to go through the sadness I experienced trying to help precious animals. Animals have always been and always be my passion and priority until my last breath. Attached are a few of my blankets and a few other photos including the lovely letter. Little did they know I had already found a truly wonderful shelter who do what they do with all their heart and without a salary it's all volunteer. Amen
