A pleasant surprise from this quaint little place that popped up on Yelp as we searched for a random brunch spot on a Sunday morning. The service was top notch and wait staff made our first visit a memorable one by highly recommending we sample the French toast, which turned out to be the best recommendation as it surpassed any other French toast we ever had. The chilaquiles were crispy and super flavorful (both sauces) and the fingerling potatoes were solid. Flavors for each were perfect as nothing was over or under seasoned. There was a minor accident when a utensil fell on me as our table was being cleared, but staff came to the rescue quickly with soda water to treat any stains. Despite this, still remarkable service. Sam, I don't know who you are and you most certainly did not stop by and say hello or have a conversation with us. But wow, you have such a professional way of responding to customers. The person who approached us didn't even come to our table, she approached midway, 2 tables from us with coffee pot in hand and said "I really need that table, we have people waiting" . No thanks for coming in, no sorry for needed the table, no nothing. You could take more of your husband's personality and good service instead of your crass attitude. We were rudely asked to leave our table because they had other guest waiting. We had been seated for an hour and 15 minutes, and waited 25 minutes for our table. The large party of 10 sat before us, had breakfast before us - were they ask to leave as well? Who ever the woman is - be it owner, manager, relative, food server - she has the worst customer service and we have always looked beyond her because we loved this place. It's a cute spot, and the food is very good. In fact, I remember commenting to my partner that it was the tastiest breakfast I've had in quite awhile. However. There are some... quirks? About this place you need to keep in mind. They have a lot of rules and they seem very strict about them. We thought it was odd that they are not willing to entertain substitutions or changes to any of their dishes. Granted, they even say so right on the menu so you know what you're getting into, but here is an anecdote for you: They have regular french toast, and they have a different "Our French Toast" that is fancier and prepared differently. The regular french toast comes with a couple of sides, the "Our French Toast" does not. My partner wanted the "Our French Toast," but she also wanted some eggs and sausage. It was, apparently, not possible to order sides? We found this very odd. The server insisted that she get the other french toast instead, which came with sides. My partner did not want that french toast, and could not understand why she could not order, separately, eggs and sausage. Never before have we visited a restaurant that will not allow you to order a side of eggs or sausage. This brings me to another point. MY meal came with sides, but we found in three separate locations notations that absolutely FORBID sharing food, so I cheekily informed her that I was very sorry, but I was not allowed to share any of my food with her, and that she would just have to settle for the french toast she did not want, so that she could get her eggs and sausage. Also, if you have children with you, just be aware that your toddlers will not be allowed to have their sippy cups. Unsure if babies will be allowed their bottles (if I were a betting person, I'd say no). There is a time limit, and yes it will be enforced. This is a place to come in, eat your food, and leave. You'll have to save the pleasant chatter and relaxed brunch vibes for later. Be aware that if you pay with a card, there is an additional charge. So basically, my review in a nutshell is this: The food was VERY good, but all their rules come off as a bit controlling and prohibitive and we did not feel very chill while we dined. So, based purely on the taste and quality of food? Great! Based on how comfortable we felt eating here? Between the vibes and decor (ifkyk), the service, and how strict they seemed about everything (feeding each other food quickly and discreetly across the table so we could try one anothers' food felt like a daring game), not so much. Upon entering the restaurant, there's a large sign that says if you're in a hurry, this is not the place for you as good things take time. They make everything from scratch here and you can really tell when you taste the food! I got the 4oz filet mignon with sunny side up eggs and it was so yummy. We went back to our nest, and ate so well I couldn't not write another review. My double iced coffee was amazing, as always. The ice is frozen coffee, so it never dilutes. My wife got the French toast which is, in a word, decadent. Fluffy, light, sweet, and that was before any maple syrup was added. The side of sausage was about the best sausage I've ever had. They had a special for a carne asada plate. It boils down to steak and eggs, Mexican style. We did not ask for the price and it turned out to be $30. Worth every penny. The asada is packed with flavor, and cooked to perfection, my eggs were cooked perfectly and complimented the steak better than I thought was possible. Their salsa tastes made in house. The real winner was the pico de gallo. Full flavored cherry tomatoes, delicious onion, and generous cilantro, all sliced chunky. It made the dish. The portion was so large I couldn't finish the excellent rice and beans. I would eat this on the regular given half a chance. On the way out we spotted a tiramisu latte, which is noteworthy by itself. It even comes with a ladyfinger cookie on top. Well balanced coffee, sweet, spice, and cream. Food is ok- nothing so memorable that I would have to return for but not bad either. Portions are good for the price. I would say the portions are bigger here than other brunch places. Decor is also cute. However, where they fail is service. And for me when I'm brunching with friends service is actually really important. Brunch food is hard to mess up and to be honest it's pretty similar wherever you go. So what does stand out is ambiance and service. The server we had was not friendly. Cold, actually. Seemed annoyed by our group from the very beginning. We ended up staying there 2.5 hours chatting away but it was never once full where we were taking tables away from potential customers. When she asked what drink we wanted to order I asked what kind of tea do you have. Server says "I'll bring you the box so you can see". She brings the box along with the hot water so pretty much forces me to have the tea since she brought the mug with hot water and left it at the table. I saw the box - it was tea I would not have ordered at a restaurant. Just ordinary tea you can buy from literally any grocery store. I don't buy tea for $4 when I could literally buy it from a grocery store down the street for an entire box- I only order tea if it's special in some way. But whatever. I guess I could've said no I don't want it and have told her to take the hot water back but she did the work of bringing all this and I don't really make it a habit of sending things back so I just accepted it. But really- this isn't good service. It's terrible actually. Especially when there was a lot of other upselling happening without our knowledge which I'll get into below. What really perturbed me was the added charges. See picture of receipt. We were a party of five but one of us only ordered a coffee. So it was really like a party of 4. We didn't realize there was a 20 percent automatic gratuity for a party of 5 until the bill came. I did notice it was on the menu later though so I can't say we weren't warned. But if you see the receipt what we were actually billed was higher than 20 percent (even according to their own tip guideline on the receipt). We were also charged .50 for salsa (did not know there would be a charge for this in advance) and an extra 2.00 for eggs (also wasn't warned there would be an up charge for this in advance). The server asked "do you want eggs with that... how do you want it"- something like that- where we were never told about extra charges and just assumed they were included and that's why she was asking how we wanted them. It just felt very sneaky in hindsight. And no, we wouldn't have gotten the tea, salsa or eggs if we knew. There's also a surprise surcharge for using credit card- there are restaurants that give cash discount but here it's the credit card surcharge. Just felt very nickel and dimed unknowingly here and I get in this economy everyone is trying to survive but there's different ways to do this- not by surprising everyone with the bill at the end. If you read a lot of the one/two star reviews, there are many complaints about surprise charges like mine. Would not return for sure. read more

First of all if I could, I would rate the restaurant 3.5 starts. The four of us (2 couples) visited Our Nest for a brunch on a Thursday at 11am. We regularly get together and go out for a meal. Note that we are 4 retired seniors, and I wear hearing aids. The restaurant was somewhat dark and we had a bit of difficulty reading the menu. There was loud music and the restaurant did not have much sound deadening materials on the ceiling and walls. I ordered an omelette and found it very tasty. My wife ordered waffles with fruit and enjoyed it. An order of eggs and their version of Avocado Toast (with a lot of avocado) was very good. 2 of us ordered the Our Potatoes which were fingerling potatoes cut into good-sized pieces. There was just a light seasoning on them and they were cooked slightly so, they were almost "crunchy." I found them ok but, I would probably go for the hash browns or tater tots if we returned. Our other friend did not like them at all. My wife asked about a decaf coffee and they did not have the capability to make it but, informed us that they were in the process of getting the equipment to make a decaf coffee. She ordered the Latte with caffeine, and enjoyed it. Note the menu does indicate that an 18% gratuity is charged for parties of 5 or more and 22% for parties of 8 or more. Butter was free but, the jam for my English Muffin was 50 cents. When our bill came, there was a lower total for cash. Upon arriving at this spot, first thing we noticed was that it was packed. It looked like they had a lot of regulars as well. We got seated pretty quickly and browsed through the menu. My wife and I decided on splitting a light egg white omelet with hash browns, bacon, mushrooms, and onions. She got the eggs Benedict with carnitas and roasted potatoes. The omelet also came with two half slices of sourdough toast, although you can get other types of toast as well. You can tell they make everything from scratch. Our meal took about 10-15 minutes to come out after ordering, which was not bad considering how many people were there. When the food came out, we instantly got excited to taste it. The omelet was excellent (or egg-cellent; pun intended). The egg was nice and fluffy and I loved how they offer the option to have mostly egg whites with one egg yoke. Seems like a healthy option and it tasted amazing. The stuffed the inside with bacon, mushrooms, and onions. Every bite had a bit of all the elements which made it so amazing. The hash browns were amazing as well! Loved how they are thinner which means a nicer crunch on the potatoes. Definitely preferred this over the country potatoes. The eggs Benedict was so so good as well. Definitely a rich sauce but it went well with the dish. I loved that it wasn't overly salty but seasons just enough. It was perfect! The meat was tasty and having both dishes to taste from kept our pallets happy and free from flavor fatigue. I feel like if you ate the whole Benedict dish, it might feel too heavy, so just keep that in mind. Overall, the meal was amazing. The dishes tasted very fresh, flavorful, and the service was great. Only one thing to note is that the bill provides two prices. One for cash, and the other for credit card. The cash price reflects the menu price while the card price is about 4% more. I wish they would have set the credit card price to the menu pricing and give a 4% discount for cash instead because I don't think the majority of us carry cash nowadays. Not mad about it, but something to definitely think about when coming back. I wish I brought enough cash with me! Food is good, and this location was recommend by another law enforcement officer I work with. However, I read about the owners attitude and decided to still try it out myself. Unfortunately he was extremely rude to my 50 year old father and made it seem like we were not welcomed. First I thought, "maybe he is just like that." This is a response to his/her justification. Whoever they are typing about an apology to a group who was not us. I work in a stressful job and completely understand working under pressure and how hard it can be to keep composure. However, I got there with my family as soon as it opened, 0800 hours. No one was there yet. Nothing About a reservation was discussed so I am not sure who you are talking about and "apologizing" to. That just shows that someone else felt like they were mistreated. I am just talking about the rudeness of the owner and how he treated my father on Father's Day, no "hello" no "welcome" no "happy Father's Day" just a condescending "we are extremely busy it's Father's Day we have a lot going on and so many reservations." My friend and I were looking for a place for lunch or brunch in the Brea area and were surprised to see long wait times for every place we were attempting to eat at. After exhausting our list of preferred places we set out for Fullerton to try Our Nest after doing a random search. It was packed too but no wait time for sitting at the counter which we immediately accepted. This is obviously a popular place for locals. Our waitress was cheerful and welcoming despite being harried and served us with a smile and some excellent recommendations. We both got coffee (I have no clue what kind of coffee they have but it was excellent!) and I ordered a special: apple crumble french toast. I got some bacon as a side to balance the sweet. I was surprised that the french toast was not really that sweet unless you poured some syrup on it. The big pieces of soft french toast (not slices but smaller pieces) were fantastic and the baked apple slices and crunchy clumps of crisp scattered amongst the french toast pieces made for a delicious breakfast plate. As I mentioned, it was lightly sweet and satisfying as such but I did pour a little syrup on a few bites. If I lived in the area I would be a regular customer here. We ordered the chorizo & eggs, breakfast bowl and coffees. Our food took about 35min to come out. There is a sign inside the restaurant stating they make everything from scratch so orders may take awhile. So just be patient and be prepared to wait. First off, two kitchen sink burritos cost me $45. With that kind of pricing, I was expecting the burritos to be the best damn burritos I've ever eaten in my life. The burritos were good but definitely not worth the price plus the 12% auto gratuity they charge for take out orders, plus the credit card up charge. I will give them credit, at least they are upfront about the 12% auto gratuity, but I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that an auto gratuity on a takeout order is very off putting. Everyone that worked there was very friendly. The whole credit/cash difference in price was also a nice surprise when I got the bill. I repeated my original request and was snarkily told that they cannot serve raw pancakes...something about the health department thrown in there..........I explained I did not want raw but just cooked, light pancakes (which are fluffy vs dark which are rubbery). I ended up getting a new order, similar to the first order, and an excuse that the plancha is very hot. My friend's breakfast looked delicious. I hate to write about a small business like this, but here we are. If the restaurant is going to go all in with serving snark, then they need to put up signs up saying they do table limits to match the signs informing no outside food or drink, food sharing, etc. We sat for breakfast for 1 hour and 15 minutes and were asked to leave in the middle of a heartfelt chat. Mind you, other tables were there longer. I have a background in the service industry, so I was actually being mindful of our time in there (Friday, late breakfast time). There were a few other tables that had been there longer than us for sure. We would have gladly honored such a posted rule. So we were a little dumbfounded when approached by a male staff saying "can I kick you guys out?" which felt.....awkward to say the least. I brought up that we were in the middle of a very sad conversation and asked for a minute and was told that they could give us cups for the rest of our drinks and sit on the benches out front. I also mentioned that there were at least three tables I counted that were there longer than us and he said one still had food on their table (once again....service industry....they were not pre-bussed as I noticed when being mindful our time along with other customers). We were bummed because we had been to The Next several times and I have suggested it to friends as a place to try especially hearing that they are opening a Brea location. Now my word of mouth will be much different.
