    Biscuits and gravy $7.50
    Rick L.

Why haven't we been here before? It was very enjoyable! Great, friendly service . Constant coffee filling, water filling etc. Had the daily special today - $12.99 French toast cooked perfectly, perfect flavor, perfect OE eggs. Bacon was cooked but flavor ok. Biscuits and gravy $7.50. 2 dry biscuits we dry and the gravy on side in a bowl was bland. Coffee (Apfels) $3.00 and delicious! Overall we loved this family feeling coffee shop with plenty of counter seating and booths as well. Must try for old school eating,

My family has been coming here for years. The staff is so welcoming and friendly. The breakfasts here are top notch, as are the lunch and dinner options. The blue cheese dressing and homemade croutons are fantastic. The potato salad is also great. I tried the machaca for the first time last weekend and it was as good as a Mexican restaurant. The beans were also tasty. The ground sirloin is juicy and always cooked to perfection. The country potatoes are really good. My grandpa especially loves the Spanish omelet, add cheese. The ranchera sauce is amazing. We will continue to be fans of this cute, nostalgic and classic diner.

I love this little country diner! I am working through a list of all the well-known diners in and near Los Angeles County and of course Pepper Shaker was on the list. I would call it a local country diner and all senses of the word, of which I am a big fan. All of the servers were extremely polite, way more than I usually get which was one of my favorite parts of the whole experience. Also everything that we ordered came out very fast and they did a great job maintaining the refills. Inside is pretty large, they have booth seating, tables, and a counter area. I love that it looks like a traditional California diner and bet countless people have enjoyed this place over the decades. There is also a large free parking lot attached so parking was really easy. The menu has a lot of the diner classics which made it hard to choose what to order. To start we shared a Cinnamon Roll, which was pretty small and not as fluffy as I'm used to, but it had great flavors and was a really nice start to the meal. I followed up with the Chicken Fried Steak and thought it was fantastic. Everything about it was done perfectly and I was really happy that I ordered it. Overall, a great diner, and I would recommend to anyone in the area.

Old school diner with friendly staff and fresh hot coffee. I had the eggs Benedict and I enjoyed them very much. My potatoes needed a little more time to cook but otherwise a very enjoyable meal.

We were a large party for breakfast given we had a reservation. The servers were so awesome! I have to commend them for running it smoothly. I had the cornbeef hash and it was delicious. I also tried the sausage too and that was also a big wow ! I definitely will come back to try their other stuff.

M4 huevos revueltos con chorizo: eggs scrambled with chorizo, beans with cheese + homemade salsa = $14.10

Pepper Shaker is the best kind of diner: expansive menu, homey decor, super friendly staff. I had a pre-Christmas meet up here and it couldn't have been more perfect. I ordered the huevos revueltos con chorizo ($14.10) which are scrambled eggs with chorizo. The Mexican breakfasts come with beans covered with cheese, homemade salsa, and your choice of flour or corn tortillas. I made little breakfast burrito bites and they were delicious. The chorizo wasn't overly greasy and had a nice little kick. I also loved the beany beans which had whole pieces of beans rather than the mashed up refried beans texture. These were simple, flavorful, and really good on their own. I also had bites of the country fried steak ($15.25) (So crispy! So good!) and the Benedict a la mexicana ($15.25) (So interesting!). All the aforementioned were giving what they needed to give. I'd love to come back to try their lunch and dinner options because who can resist a homemade meatloaf?? I certainly can't. Service was on point - our coffee cups were always topped and the wait staff was so damn friendly. I'd come back to Pepper Shaker in a heartbeat. Catch me eating one of their weekly specials.

I got excited as we walked in because of how cool the vibe was inside the restaurant! Modern and clean aesthetic ... such a surprise! I had already looked at the menu the night before, so I made some suggestions for our party of four adults and kiddo. Our server brought fresh sourdough rolls with seasoned butter. Solid start. We then ordered the stuffed 'shrooms and proscuitto-arugula pizza as starters. Both were very excellent, and was tell-tale of what we were about to experience with our entrees. Entrees ordered were the rigatoni with vodka sauce, the pappardelle with shortrib (two servings but really enough food for at least four ppl!) and the chicken Parmesan salad. Everything was impressive, especially the pappardelle dish. With the beurre blanc and creamy Alfredo sauce with two huge pieces of short rib that were fork tender, it was the star of the evening. This dish is made table-side to ensure that it's eaten immediately. The portions were enough for four ppl, and the sauce is just absolutely decadent. Service was attentive and prompt. Our server was lovely! She shared her favorites with us, and we followed suit by ordering her favorite desserts too! The bread pudding was amazing, but the carrot cake, being a new recipe, was just a bit too sweet for our palates. Plenty of parking as it is onsite. Loved that!

We didn't get her name but she had glasses and septum nose piercing. She was more accommodating at then end but we were very off put at the beginning and it left a bad taste in our mouths. Our server at our table was the complete opposite. Very attentive and made the group less angry with our initial treatment. Wish I got her name to share. The desert and cocktails were nice but due to the service it did not make up for the overall experience. Desert: Tiramisu 4/5 - great flavor, ratio of cream was too much compared to cake portion Canolli 4/5 - duo flavors were nice and had a good shell with crunch Crème brûlée 2/5 - pistachio flavor was light and it's was almost too warm and liquidy. Cocktails overall some major hits and other misses. Sgroppino 5/5 - strong but with a great flavor profile Dragon fruit cocktail 2/5 - too light tasting, not much flavor or alcohol? Gave more juice Peach Bellini 4.5/5 - table side pour is nice touch and rest of bottle was nice. Syrup has a sourness but mixed in with Bellini and gelato and tasted just right. Melontini - 2.5/5 light, somewhat good flavor but nothing memorable. Ambience seems nice but it can be loud inside with open floor plan.

A weekend brunch with friends brought me to Madre's Whittier, where the menu offered plenty of tempting options--and a few unexpected lessons about ordering seafood. I tried the Ensenada Omelet, loaded with shrimp, salmon, crab, and octopus. Now, I'm a seafood lover, but octopus and I aren't exactly close friends. I asked if it could be removed, but since the seafood mix is pre-made, the octopus had already RSVP'd to the party. The omelet was good, topped with a creamy sauce, but not something I'd order again. The crab appeared to be imitation crab, and while everything was prepared well, it just wasn't a standout for me. The real star? The strawberry pancakes. Delicious! Next time, I'd order those with a side of eggs and call it a win. I also sampled the chilaquiles, and now that's a dish I'd come back for. The Tiramisu Latte was another favorite--not overly sweet and packed with that classic tiramisu flavor I love. A special shoutout to our waitress, Annie, who was attentive, friendly, and made our brunch experience even better. My Verdict: Skip the Ensenada Omelet and build your brunch around the stars of the menu instead. The strawberry pancakes are the must-order item, the chilaquiles are a strong savory choice, and the Tiramisu Latte ties everything together. If you order wisely, Madre's delivers a brunch worth coming back for.
