Absolutely loved this place. We had some time in between my son's soccer games, so this was down the street and we were all hungry. Fantastic, family friendly rest. with a very extensive menu of both breakfast and lunch. Seriously, they have it all-even nopales if you're craving some cactus in your eggs. Perfectly fluffy pancakes, warm, soft blueberry muffin, and amazing breakfast potatoes. My omelette was so, so good, perfectly cooked and seasoned. And I can't say enough about the service. Everyone working here had a smile on their face, our coffee cups were never empty, and they were so attentive to everyone in the place. Just incredible. I've passed by here all the time when I shop next door at Aldi. After my vacation in Japan I was craving a good ol' American breakfast and this popped up. Since the pandemic they've been open from 7:00-3;00 daily, which is probably why I never had the opportunity to try them for dinner. I had the ham steak and eggs with hash browns. Choice of toast, biscuits and gravy, or blueberry muffin (I chose toast), while Stephen had the chicken fried steak and eggs and chose the biscuit and gravy. Overall huge portions. Feeling like a senior today. Started off with an early Sunday morning Costco run...apparently when you're an Executive member, you have access of getting into Costco 1 hour before the general public. Wanted to keep the same vibe today since Wifey & i were in our senior mood still, we decided to stop by Pepper Shaker in La Habra. We had much fun meeting Nancy, she is a great person to talk to. She also explained the great menu with a lot to choose from. Today we shared the Pork chops, hash browns and biscuits with gravy...I did get my own eggs with hash browns and my biscuits @_@ with gravy. Great classic diner with an extensive menu. My family has been coming here for years. The staff is so welcoming and friendly. The breakfasts here are top notch, as are the lunch and dinner options. The blue cheese dressing and homemade croutons are fantastic. The potato salad is also great. I tried the machaca for the first time last weekend and it was as good as a Mexican restaurant. The beans were also tasty. The ground sirloin is juicy and always cooked to perfection. The country potatoes are really good. My grandpa especially loves the Spanish omelet, add cheese. First of all this place is spotless. I like to sit where I can see the kitchen ( I used to cook for a living). First thing I noticed was how clean and orderly everything is. Like the military everything is dress right dress. The owners are super friendly and and the food is delicious. I noticed that the potato salad is made from scratch and is really good. I love this little country diner! I am working through a list of all the well-known diners in and near Los Angeles County and of course Pepper Shaker was on the list. I would call it a local country diner and all senses of the word, of which I am a big fan. All of the servers were extremely polite, way more than I usually get which was one of my favorite parts of the whole experience. Also everything that we ordered came out very fast and they did a great job maintaining the refills. Inside is pretty large, they have booth seating, tables, and a counter area. I love that it looks like a traditional California diner and bet countless people have enjoyed this place over the decades. There is also a large free parking lot attached so parking was really easy. The menu has a lot of the diner classics which made it hard to choose what to order. To start we shared a Cinnamon Roll, which was pretty small and not as fluffy as I'm used to, but it had great flavors and was a really nice start to the meal. I followed up with the Chicken Fried Steak and thought it was fantastic. Everything about it was done perfectly and I was really happy that I ordered it. The omelette was a scramble (scrambled eggs with the ingredients mixed in) and shaped into omelette form, and had no cheese. Asked for avocado but they said they don't offer them as an option since Covid. Prices were expensive compared to what was received; $15.80 for the cheese-less scramble with potatoes and toast. Two pancakes were almost $8 and were cold, "butter" provided was flavorless. The service was the best part, the people working there were friendly. Two of us shared, and with coffee total came to $33 something. We won't be returning; not worth it. Could have made the same meal at home but better for half the price. read more

Pepper Shaker is the best kind of diner: expansive menu, homey decor, super friendly staff. I had a pre-Christmas meet up here and it couldn't have been more perfect. I ordered the huevos revueltos con chorizo ($14.10) which are scrambled eggs with chorizo. The Mexican breakfasts come with beans covered with cheese, homemade salsa, and your choice of flour or corn tortillas. I made little breakfast burrito bites and they were delicious. The chorizo wasn't overly greasy and had a nice little kick. I also loved the beany beans which had whole pieces of beans rather than the mashed up refried beans texture. These were simple, flavorful, and really good on their own. I also had bites of the country fried steak ($15.25) (So crispy! So good!) and the Benedict a la mexicana ($15.25) (So interesting!). All the aforementioned were giving what they needed to give. I'd love to come back to try their lunch and dinner options because who can resist a homemade meatloaf?? I certainly can't. Service was on point - our coffee cups were always topped and the wait staff was so damn friendly. I'd come back to Pepper Shaker in a heartbeat. We all had a variety of items - 2 of us had one of the specials - cornbeef with cabbage which came with carrots and red potatoes with a side salad, one had the Grecian chicken, another had the chicken tostada salad , one had an omelet and etc. All the food was freshly made and delicious. Grabbed a quick Sunday brunch with the lady I'm dating. I had French toast, bacon, and eggs. My date ordered chicken fried steak, eggs, hashbrowns, and pancakes. Everything was good, the service was quick and efficient including refills for my drink when it dropped below halfway down the glass. Ambiance is a mixture of diner and fast casual restaurant. I ordered a coffee and the old lady just stares at me in the eyes because I'm a 15 year old ordering coffee, and all I was coming here for is just for a light breakfast and a good hot cup of coffee, and then I didn't feel welcome here. Also when I was paying my bill, I noticed some sticky cockroach traps in the kitchen area. And I left a good tip, but only because I liked the food. But I did come back here and they had a passing grade, so the food is safe to eat now, and I didn't spot and roaches/sticky traps. If anyone comes here, it should be because of the FOOD. Joanne and sharon were sweet and amazing everyone we came in contact with made us feel comfortable . Joanne took the time to help us decide what we should order by sharing how some of the dishes are made. Did you know all the burgers are made with fresh ground sirloin? Beef for the machaca made fresh here on sight.. The turkey is made from fresh on sight and sliced here. I had the Baja burger with onion rings . I added a side salad with thousand island dressing. My husband has the bacon burger with fries and side salad with thousand island dressing. We both ordered dessert apple pie ala mode and chocolate cake . Both were delicious . Desserts shipped in but they were so good . Honestly , we are coming back, food , compnay , price all good . It was so nice to experience this friendly welcoming environment . Joanne and Sharon, everyone seemed to have love for their regulars and how they served . Just a diamond in the rough. No matter what, that makes food even more excellente! Gave this place a try based on others Yelp reviews. Service was quick and efficient. There is no question this is a mom and pop place but that is said in a "good way". Servers are busy but it is kinda of like a "swarm of bees" serving all tables all of the time. The eggs were cooked properly as was the rest of the meal but this was just basic food.
