Today my daughter and I had lunch at this cafe. This is a buffet style meat and three style restaurant. I had the fried catfish, hush puppies, green beans, cheesy mashed potatoes, and the chess pie. The veggies were good and the catfish was well seasoned and fried to southern perfection. The chess pie, one of my favorites, did not disappoint. Caleb is the new cook there and he did a wonderful job. Not only is he a good cook but he provided friendly customer service and made sure we were happy. The restaurant is clean and has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I will definitely be back. Caleb, you did not disappoint and I highly recommend this restaurant. The staff was extremely nice but that was the highlight of the visit. I ordered a BEC to go, as it was the "To Go Special". It took about five minutes to get the sandwich, the sandwich was cold with a pice of Kraft cheese and looked like it came straight from the fridge. She didn't like that I asked for fresh twice baked potatoes when only crusty crumbs were left for my order.she actually asked "are those not ok?" And there was a fresh pan of them ready in the back! Also, I had to beg for lemons and then found out they were out which is fine if she would have told me that. She just had a bad attitude. I've been coming here for several years until now and everyone has been pleasant. She acted like it was a bother to deal with me. I took a bowl to put my lemons in before I knew they were out of lemons and she said "you do know those bowls aren't free right?" Sadly the quality of the food has went down tremendously, I stopped by for some catfish on Friday, you could not taste the fish for the spice and the breading. It was so thin and tough you couldn't cut it . I'm very disappointed . I could have spent $22 somewhere else and enjoyed a much better meal. I've been a customer for a few years, this isn't my first time there actually I've ordered there Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for my family on the Holidays , but it's going to be my Last. This review is solely based on the dessert I ordered for thanksgiving. I ordered a tray of banana pudding and it was the worst banana pudding I've ever had! The bananas were over ripe. The entire pudding was brown like bananas that have been sitting out. It tasted like the left the bananas out wayyy past ripe and then mushed it all together. My wife and I have loved Our Place Cafe for years and are regulars on certain menu days. The staff is friendly and helpful and the manager "Donny" is amazing. Donny is one of the friendliest you'll ever meet and bends over backward to make customers welcome and happy. As for the food, it's first class ! Among our favorites are the meatloaf, turkey & dressing and steak with onions or gravy. The desert variety is good and homemade sides are consistent and fresh. Recommended favorite sides are mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, green beans, lima beans, brussels sprouts, black-eye peas, squash, greens, dressing and macaroni & tomatoes. Plus, they have the very best fried apples you'll find. One of the few sides that are not recommended are the scalloped potatoes, which do not taste homemade. One suggestion we've offered is to always offer mashed potatoes on "meatloaf" days. These two just naturally go together and are served together most everywhere else, but not here. On Tuesdays (meatloaf day) most always has scalloped potatoes instead of mashed, and it's a shame. In fact, despite our pleas, Tuesdays have the least attractive veggie options of the week IMO. Also, they tend to run out of sides frequently, so go early, or call ahead. As for portion size, it's a mixed bag and depends entirely on who serves. This can vary from small "child plate" portions, to hearty, man-size servings, so monitor take out orders carefully. The rolls are typically good, but small, so ask for extra, or you will get one only. Even with these minor things, Our Place remains one of our favorite dining options in town. Take it home and enjoy, or dine-in and get treated with smiles and a free cookie at your table, the folks at Our Place do it right and really care about their customers. read more

For those of you not familiar with the phrase "Meat and 3", you should before he head down to the Our Place Cafe. My friends would kind enough to find a Wisconsin type fish fry for my 1st Friday of Lent dinner...Our Place Cafe. Our Place Cafe was located in a small strip mall off of Main St in Hendersonville and offers a free lot to park in. When you walk in the have a handwritten menu. I was only interested in the seafood options. They had a shrimp dinner, a catfish dinner $6.50 with 3 sides and hush puppies, and an AYCE catfish dinner for $9.50 with 3 sides and hush puppies. Your choice of sides were corn, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, string beans, collard greens, and another veggie that I can't remember. You order it up front and it is served cafeteria style. If they don't have your option ready for you they will bring it to your table. You pay after you order and it is CASH ONLY. Of course, I got the AYCE catfish with the 3 sides - mashed potatoes, corn, and mac & cheese but I think my eyes were bigger than my stomach that day because I could only have one serving of fish. The serving size of fish was HUGE. I am pretty sure it was equivalent to eating 2 catfish. It was expertly breaded, flakey and tasty. The sides were no joke either - hush puppies were not over cooked, the mac & cheese was cheesy and creamy, the mashed potatoes didn't need any gravy or butter, and the corn was fresh. Plus to top it off, they gave fresh chocolate chip cookies out. I definitely got my money's worth even though I only had one serving of fish. The service was also friendly and patient. Always checking on me if I need a second helping of fish and advised me that the record for the amount was 12 pieces of fish. All in all a great experience. Tip for Yelpers...if you check in you can get a free desert. Something I wish I took advantage of because the pies looked amazing. read more

What a pleasant little surprise! Went today for dinner with my husband for the first time. It was Spirit Night to support Hendersonville Home Bound Meals, so it was packed. They were ready for the crowd. Service was great, and every employee we encountered was so helpful and friendly. I had the fried chicken with fried squash and mashed potatoes. Hubby had chicken fried steak with beans and mashed potatoes. My chicken was tasty! Really enjoyed it. He said his was good too. I don't know why, but I always imagined the inside to look very different...like a badly lit hospital cafeteria from years past. But it wasn't like that at all. Very clean and bright and not outdated. Shame on me for my misguided preconceived notion. My mom taught me better. I didn't grow up with meat and threes in Southern California, so this is new to me. But with my limited experience, all I can say is the food was tasty, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Isn't that what Southern comfort food is all about? I was there for the first time I had seen it on Facebook I went to check out the menu thought I'd get something to go everyone was very friendly they even let me sample their beef tips and they were pretty good but then I saw they had all you could eat catfish so I asked how did that work if you were taking it to go she told me I could get more than two pieces I was like great that's what I'm going to have. Our Place catered my wedding in 2018. We had an amazing experience! Our guests raved about the food for months after the wedding. They provided plenty of staff and again- the food was amazing!!! The customer service was outstanding. We ran out of our signature Drink within the first hour- my wedding planner was stressed and the owner of Our Place ran out and went to the liquor store to replenish the drink. The service I received here was excellent. The staff was very friendly. We decided to dine in, and half way through our meal a young woman came to our table and offered us fresh baked cookies (no charge). The food, however, I was not too impressed with. I ordered the steak tips over rice, and though the steak was very tender, it was way to salty. Over all I wasn't too impressed with the taste of the food, but I'd probably return and try something else because of the service I received. Also, I wish they offered more health conscious or vegan friendly food. Chef's Takeaway Market in Goodlettsville reminds me of this place, but their food is way better. I went a few weeks ago. Based on all the great reviews here I thought it was going to be great. Now the staff could not have been any better. They were friendly and attentive and really went out of their way to make sure that each and every guest felt right at home and had everything that they needed or wanted. The problem was the food. When I go to this type of place I expect a good old down home meal. The food looked the part but it did not taste the part. Everything was bland with not nearly enough seasoning going on. It was seasoned like food one expects to be served at grandma's nursing home so as to not upset her dietary requirements. I am a firm believer that there is not much that a little hot sauce can't fix. Thank God they had hot sauce! I love the people but the food.......not so much. Being a kitchen manager myself i have high and picky standards. This place blew me away. Cafeteria setting packing a big punch when it comes to southern food!! I got fried chicken and green beans with mashed potatoes and for desert pecan pie. It instantly took me back to my childhood eating at either my grannies or a friend's grannies house on Sunday. My wife had a strawberry cake that was the best cake I have ever had the pleasure of eating. The staff was full of smiles and I was happy to see the owner in here working as part of the team. Our Place Cafe is excellent. It's some of the best food we have had in Hendersonville. For $6.50, I got country fried steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans. The country fried steak was really good. The breading was crispy and light. The mashed potatoes were very good and the green beans weren't bad either. The cornbread was really good too. It had a hint of sweetness to it. The portion size is what you'd expect. I was completely satisfied by the amount of food and the quality of the food. The only negative is the lack of taking credit cards. read more

The greens were good and the "real" potatoes were great. Glad to see a restaurant that still serves quality mashed potatoes.
