I went in for a simple brake alignment. Paid up, cycled 5 blocks. BOOM, like a gunshot, the front wheel exploded in heavy Moreland traffic. I was shaking. I thought it was an overinflate issue. The wheel locked, decimated. CARRIED my bike 5 blocks. So piss'd off. FWIW I do not blame the person who did the original realignment. It is not his fault. It's the manager for setting up a bad chain of command and her appalling gaslighting. They said "Yeah your rim was already indented, and look, it's the back rim too. When the brakes applied to that, this front wheel rim split, caved in and exploded.". That'll be $85 more, they said. New wheel, inner tube, costs. Uhm. What? The alignment of the brake pads is done when you align them TO THE RIM OF THE WHEEL. You cannot align the brakes without aligning the rim, they work together in a pair. That is the time to tell the bike-rider of the impending catastrophe. I was so angry. They didn't tell me. Or warn me or make it known. I requested a discount from the manager. I'd just had the brake adjustment. This lady nicked and dimed me. They fixed the brake alignment and must have seen my coming back for more. Jeez. Switch bait. She gaslit my Every. Single. Sentence. Blamed me for not having a service earlier, for not noticing it myself and said it wasn't their responsibility to tell me about the rim. Uhm, it's LITERALLY your responsibility. I'm not the technician. Brake pads apply to wheel rims. It's Literally. Your. Job. argued I told her I felt very unsafe and didn't trust this shop now. She argued my every sentence. She said anything she could at every turn to make herself look good. Lady. At least have the COMMON decency to agree with a sentence out of my mouth. I shouldn't have to argue over and over or defend myself when I'm telling the manager I feel unsafe. When leaving, she told me to take care of servicing and to come back for adjustments. Lady, if you think I'm ever coming back to this store, you're crazier than I already think you are. And I'll expect her to reply to this with yet more gaslighting. read more

Highly recommend Outback Bikes, especially in COVID19 items. They have set up shop entirely outdoors under two large tents. All employees wear masks and are quite thorough about sanitizing things before working on them (e.g. spraying my bike tire before they started working on it). The people who work here are super knowledgeable and super nice. I've been here a few times (I'm a bicycle novice) and every time I've been pleased! You can set up an appointment online but not required. It can take a while to get an appointment (but check their website) so I would recommend just coming by if you have a quick question. read more

Chill bike shop in Little five. Got a flat in front of their store, they let me pump up. Instead of fixing the flat I thought I could get all the way home and fix it myself. I unfortunately made it two miles out before I had to walk back to the shop. The guys at the shop were cool. They practiced social distancing which was nice, only ten people could be in the store at a time and they had Clorox wipes, and automatic hand sanitizers everywhere. It was a little confusing because one guy told me to go to the back for service then the other guy yelled at me to go back in the front in fear of spreading the virus. I scratched my head, but I'll excuse them because it's been crazy with the Corona Virus. Glad they take the Corona Virus seriously, it means they care. All in all, they fixed my flat, they fixed my brakes which I noticed right away and they gave me some good tips on how to properly put on my bike wheel. I walked out happy. By the way the guy in the front was super funny. He was trying to find zip ties, but kept calling them anal beads. I also walked out laughing. While doing my research looking into bike shops around the Riverdale area or outskirts of Atlanta. I eventually came up with Outback Bikes through a mutual bike shop recommendation. The reason for my stop was looking for bike build and breakdown for my Chattanooga IM. I called the shop months in advance and ending up talking with the owner believe Patrick. I had great conversation about my needs, the dates and times needed my bike build and breakdown, and got email confirmation soon after our conversation. Flash forward my race weekend. I took my Bianchi into the shop on Monday. I got to meet Patrick in real life. lol. Good guy. The entire staff everyone meet and dealt with were friendly, helpful, and five star comes to service. I needed my bike built before Thursday cause leaving for Chattanooga. They had it done by Wednesday. The bike was put back together exactly the way it was broken day. On race day not that you can predict the weather or issues on your bike going 116miles. Thankfully no mechanical issues on my bike portion of my race. Big SHOUT OUT to the staff at Outback for making sure my Bianchi IM ready!!! The breakdown the same brought it back once in Atlanta area on Monday and picked it up Wednesday first thing so had it for flight back Vegas later that night. They did wonderful job of packing it nice and secure. My guys in Vegas had no problems finding all the parts or any parts damage in the process. So if your looking for bike build and breakdown for any cycling or triathlon race in the Atlanta area and coming from out of state. I would highly recommend Outback Bikes. The shop itself is decent size for a smaller shop with all your bike needs. I always love support small business owners. Bike shops most part majority of them are small business owners in my experience. Outback they take the time to treat u like part of there family. In all the visit four trip between dropping it off and picking it up felt the same vibe. Once stop asking for recommendation for lunch around the area. They mention good one! The location the only thing not fan. They have private lot around the corner of the building just for the shop. This is a cool bike shop with a huge inventory right in the heart of Little Five Points. Don't let the Bohemian exterior fool you, this is the real deal. They have a massive selection of bikes of all types, a knowledgeable staff and a full service department, although nobody was actually working on a bike when I visited. Atlanta has so many great bike shops and such an yet such an abysmal bike infrastructure. Just getting to this shop on a road bike can be a challenge as the nearby roads are in an awful state. But if you do make it without flatting a tire or bending a rim you will be rewarded. read more

I love this bike shop! Honestly, I don't go to bike shops often but if I ever need anything from one this place is my go to. The owners, Pete and Kate, are wonderful and generous people. I have caught Pete in many kind acts in the area that surround his shop. He also married my husband and I. Pete employed me here and allowed me to train under the infamous (to me) Hodge as a bicycle mechanic. Talk about old stomping grounds. I've learned so much here. I could build a bike up from scratch, excluding the frame. I've even learned to build wheels with Outback Bikes. Customer experience and satisfaction was always at the forefront when I worked here. If you bought a bike from this shop, you got free tune-ups for life. As long as you were the original purchaser/owner. I do not know if this still applies, but it would not hurt to go stop in and check them out. For some time, I loved the people I worked with while learning to be a wrench at Outback. I can say two of the coolest and smartest people there were Hodge and Josie (Pete's daughter). I am grateful to have had the experience of being a part of the Outback Bikes family. I feel like I should write this - particularly after seeing the dismal review most recently. Outback Bikes should be your store of choice - for a number of reasons. They have every product and accessory under the sun, there's no doubt about that. They are in a great location in L5P. But the owner has a commitment to the community and charity that no other store can claim - and even personally stopped on the side of the road and helped me during the AV200 last year. (I had a low tire and my gauge wasn't working.) My Specialized bike - purchased from them last Spring - has held up great and I will continue to go back to them for all my biking needs. I spent hours today and yesterday testing bikes at Outback. I was not doing this for fun, I was ready to fork over at least $600 for a new bike and accessories. I just wanted to make sure I got the right one, as it is a big financial investment and the bike I will own for the next decade or so. On the first day I went I tried one bike and they also pulled out a bike from the back to build for me. I came back the next day to try it and it was great but I wasn't completely sold. After a long day of testing multiple bikes I was getting closer but still no cigar. The store associate offered to have another one from the back built up for me as there were limited options on the floor that met my specifications. For example I needed a medium size bike and they simply did not have that many available on the floor. We were looking at another bike that needed to be built up when of the managers very rudely interrupted. He asked me if I had a bike built up yesterday. I said yes, but it wasn't quite right. He said "ok we will build you this bike but that's it we are not going to keep building bikes for you." He was talking down to me and speaking very loudly so that others in the store could hear. I decided not to have it built because I'd rather not be treated that way before I'm about to spend more than half a grand at a store. To be clear, the store associate I worked with was very polite, patient and helpful. I just didn't appreciate the way I was spoken to after I spent hours there two days in a row and was very much committed to buying a bike there. Awesome place to get air in your tires or to get a tire or tube changed but that's it. They do not properly fit you for the bike you're purchasing ($3000), so once you ride the bike twice and feel you need another size or try to do an even exchange they get real nasty with you. I was told I would have to pay a 30% restocking fee. That's $900 to do an exchange on a bike of the same cost ($3000). I will never do business with outback bikes again. I came to Outback about 90 percent sure of what I wanted: a 51 cm Bianchi Pista via Condotti. I'd shopped at Outback before and knew they send a lot of Pistas out the door. I even saw a via Condotti leaned against a wall when I walked in. Success! The ever-friendly Edgemont saw me hovering, asked what I was shopping for, and said, "This is a great bike. Can't get it." Failure. He went on to explain that Bianchi was producing far fewer of this particular bike; if I were a bit taller, this would be a bit easier. They could order one from the company and probably get it around December. I'm a bike commuter, a carless one at that. My last bike was destroyed in a car accident; December was not going to work for me. But...he could check around to see if another bike shop had ordered one, and hadn't been able to pay for it. If that was the case, he could snatch it up. It'd be...maybe a week? Possibility? I left disheartened, but comfortable that Edgy was checking it out for me, and that he'd suggested some other decent options -- going with a regular Pista and getting it powdercoated, or even ordering a Soma Rush like I'd had before. About a week and a sinus infection later, the phone rang in the middle of a squishy Advil-induced dream. "Jamie?" "Yeeeeah?" "It's Edgemont from Outback. I got your bike!" "You did?" "It's sitting right here. When can you come get it?" "OHMYGOD! You got my bike!" I picked it up today, and was beyond thrilled with the bike, Edgemont's dedication to the search and the kindness of the mechanics and staff, who swapped out a cog for a more comfortable gear ratio, and oohed-and-ahhed like they were taking it home themselves. The price was exactly what they'd quoted -- no upsell, no funky charges because it's hard to get. They did offer several reminders that I get free service from them, and should take advantage of it. "What do you think?" Edgemont asked. "It's super-gorgeous!" I gasped. And then he laughed at me, said those were exactly the words he was looking for, and that I should have a safe ride home. read more

I recently bought an AWESOME bike there and I'm super happy with the service I received and with my shiny new purchase. Don't be overwhelmed by the vast selection of bikes- just find someone who works there (if they don't find you first) and tell them your budget and what you want a bike for. Then you sign a waiver and you can test out the bikes in the large parking lot next door. Now, these aren't Walmart bikes. Expect to pay anywhere from $250-$1,000+, depending on what your biking needs are. But I don't want to be pedaling down a busy street and have the bike fall apart on me, you know? You can also get all your other biking gear and tools here. Wear helmets, people! Best part of all - free maintenance for the lifetime of the bike! Yup, just bring it in whenever it needs a tune up. And even if you move out of state and sell the bike to someone local, they'll still honor the maintenance agreement. read more

Updating to say I won't be back here. I make a point to shop here and support local business even though I could easily purchase parts off of Amazon for cheaper. Usually, when I buy stuff at Outback, the installation is free. Most recently, I bought tires ($85 purchase), and the guy asked if I'd like him to put them on for me. I accept, and am then charged a service charge. Here's the kicker - the mechanic botched up my brand new tire when he put it on and I had to bring it in the very next day to get a new one. He didn't even apologize, which really pissed me off. I've been shopping here and bringing my bike in for years, and I've noticed that a lot of the new staff are immature and seemingly inexperienced. I'll start making the trek down to Intown Bicycles from now on. read more

I've bought bikes, equipment, and repairs from Outback Bikes for over twenty years, and have purchased many bicycles there (for myself and my family); two of them this year alone. Until recently, my review would have been among the 4- and 5-stars: they were "my bike shop." Unfortunately, I've been treated with such rudeness by ownership on my last three visits, I now agree with those reviewers that observe "they give you attitude out of nowhere." I will really miss some of their outstanding employees, but will not set foot in that shop again (even to collect the service that's owed on the four bikes that I bought there). I am forever in debt to Amber and Outback Bikes. I had a beach cruiser that needed to become "ride-able" again, and they did a great job, had great advice and made me very happy as I actually RODE away from the shop. If you have bike issues, questions, maintenance or are like me and have no idea what to do with your bike besides ride it, this is the place for you. I have a shiny pink beach cruiser that I adore, but with 26-inch tires and tons of treads it was impossible to get the bike up any hill, no matter how tiny. I was about to chalk it up to Craigslist and buy a city bike, but then thought "what the hell?" I'll see if Outback can help me. After borrowing a friend's larger car to transport the thing (yes, cruisers are huge and heavy), I wheeled into Outback and Amber had the solution to get new tires with smaller treads and even grease the chain and kickstand so they would work better. After an hour, my bike was literally riding again and I couldn't be more grateful or happy. Watch out for me cruising the streets of Poncey Highlands--I dont have a helmet yet--I'll be the one with a huge smile because of Outback Bikes! read more

I really want to like Outback Bikes. The L5P location is a few blocks from home, their selection of gear and accessories is stellar, their shop is huge and their hours convenient. Problem is, they keep botching the opportunity to sell me anything. Seeing all the positive reviews here, I think my bad experiences are due to the fact that I ride and fix old bikes. I don't buy new ones at Outback, but that shouldn't make any difference to a shop that also sells parts. I tried to buy brake cable and housing but didn't wan't the prepackaged super-set for $30, so the staff was nice enough to cut me some housing from behind the counter. When I took the goods to the counter, the cashier was on the phone. This is fine and well, but there she remained--on the phone--for more than five minutes while I stood there with money in hand. At no point in time did she call over one of the idle staff members behind the service desk to help make the transaction while she was busy. And If that's just not the way Outback's system works, then it should be. Just make the sale. My boyfriend has had the same experience. He bought a 15-year-old Schwinn in good condition while I was out of town. It needed some air and a tune up. When he approached a staff member to ask whether he thought the bike was a good investment, the staff member asked "For you?" Boyfriend said yes, staff said "the frame's too small. Air is over there" and walked away. Needless to say, boyfriend didn't go chasing after the guy asking for a tune-up. And before that, he had brought in a Raleigh fixed gear that needed an adjustment, was told to come back in a few hours, and came back to find it in the same place he left it. Staff said it didn't need any work. If anyone in that shop had sat on it for 3 seconds, they would realize it needed work. Once again, Outback, just make the sale. I won't be going back. There's better spots nearby. Point is, if you value well-made bikes that have endured years of wear and have the potential to perform for years more, you already value that more than Outback values your business. If you want a new Bianchi but don't really want to know anything about how it all works underneath you, let Outback be your guiding light. read more

They're the only shop in town I've been to where they seem genuinely interested in talking about biking rather than just selling you on stuff. As a novice bike commuter, and rider for that matter, I came in looking to just get measured one day. Two days later, I ended up walking away with a brand new single speed bike, which I ride almost every day to work now. I owe them for making me accessible in this big city. The day I came in, I met Edgemont, who everyone has been already raving about below me. He measured me by just looking at my standing height and started briefing me about different things I should know about having a bike. He informed me that they had just received a new 2011 single speed bike which he offered to build for me to try out. Sounded all too good, so I told him I'd think about it and swing by later in the week. The entire next day, I could not get that bike out of my head. I called the shop right away and Edgemont informed me that the bike would be ready for a test ride when I got off work. I hurried to the shop after work and got to test the bike in the backlot. It rode like a champ. I paid 1/3 of the bike off immediately and paid the rest and took home the bike two days later. They offer 60 days for you to pay off the bike, but you have to pay everything off in order to take it home. They also offer Free Lifetime Maintenance on the bike to the original owner , which is pretty awesome. My experience was mainly interacting with Edgemont, but the rest of the staff was equally helpful and courteous to the other customers in store. I've been in the shop five times in two months. I really wanted to like the place, because they have a good selection of brands, including Specialized and Bianchi. Despite some good qualities, I can't recommend. Here's the good, bad, and ugly: Good: There's really one "sales" guy, a tatted-up cat named Edgemont who is really knowledgeable about bikes and took the time to understand what I needed. He made a really solid, thoughtful recommendation and cut me a good deal on a new bike. Bad: If Edgemont is busy, which is much of the time, good luck getting some attention from the indifferent staff. Ugly: Edgemont recommended I bring the bike back in a week for an initial tune-up, and monthly thereafter for regular maintenance, which, he assured me, they could do while I wait. After stroking the check for the new ride, I show up for the first tune to learn they need to keep the bike one week, as they're backed up on service. Not good. I realize (now) how important it is to buy a bike from a place that can provide service, not just the initial sale. So my experience feels a little like bait and switch - buyer beware on this point. read more

I wanted to see some other items and was accosted by a mid 40s woman who rudely said "I can't have you wandering the store" I get that some are freaking out about Coronavirus but that's no reason to be rude to the only customer in your store. Why open your doors if you won't allow people to shop? I can tolerate a rude cow, but I prefer not to, so I'll shop elsewhere. read more

These guys really know what they are talking about and truly want to help you find the bike that is right for you. I recently bought a bicycle from Outback and couldn't ask for better service. I went in completely clueless about what I wanted and I left with the perfect bicycle. Granted, I didn't just walk in and 15 minutes later have purchased a bike. The guy who helped me out (man, I wish I could remember his name) really took the time to find me the perfect bike. And that indeed took some time. I'm really short and the shop had to build smaller bikes and eventually special order the right size. I paid a little bit more than I wanted, but I'm totally glad I did. I want this to last me a while! The most amazing part, free maintenance on the bike. Forever!!! That's a huge plus for me, since I totally anticipate running into a tree or parked car. But they have an enormous selection of bikes for every different type of rider, plus all the accessories and a repair shop. Oh, and go during the week if you can. They have more bikes built and more time to spend with you finding a bike. Now only if it wasn't 90+ degrees outside, I'd be set! read more

I wish I could give 0 stars, that how bad I feel after one sales guy told me to come back the next day so they could build the bike I wanted in the size I needed....and they sold it to someone else :(((((((((((((((((((((((((( This is not the first time I have been told one thing, which was completely different from reality. This was even after spending 75$ on accessories for a bike I did not get a chance to ride. There seems to always be plenty of people in the store but no one is helpful or honest. It's a shame that they have more stuff in stock than any other shop in-town, but the service is completely unreliable.
