It has been a while since we have been to outback, a bit out of the way is the only reason it has been a bit. Same decor as usual. Somewhat cowboy down under feel. The hostess was great. She asked if we minded a half booth/half table because if we wanted a booth it would just be a second for them to clean one. We didn't mind at all taking what she offered. Our server , Tristan, seemed great, they were very nice. Unfortunately, after the initial introduction, service declined rapidly. We placed our drink orders and an appetizer of the , well known, blooming onion. Our water took forever, but to be fair, they apologized because there were no clean glasses. Things happen, ok, no problem. The bread was delivered. And then the bloomin onion. I want to point out that we still have not received any water. I expected my mix drink to take a while, maybe. I have never been so disappointed in a bloomin onion. Ever. It was so burnt and more batter than onion that it was only edible with the sauce, that was not quite like we have had it before. I ended up trying it with ranch and then ketchup. It was not ok. Finally our waters and my drink arrived. The drink, lavender blueberry lemonade- AMAZING. Easily one of the best I have had when it comes to a mixed drink of lemonade. Our salads came out first. My boyfriend had the Caesar and I had a regular house. They were good. Then our entrees shortly after. I ordered the bloomin chicken and my boyfriend had the ribeye and grilled shrimp. Besides them bringing him French fries instead of seasoned riced and then being asked to move the French fries to another plate to be taken away... the meal was cooked perfectly. The steak was an amazing medium rare and the chicken was full of flavor and very juicy. A bit skimpy on the fries but I'm a potato gal, so that's on me. Unfortunately after enjoying our meal, we were not checked on again. We had 4 plates , from the bread and the salads and the straw paper etc. that sat at the end of the table. Our waters were not refilled. I ordered another drink through the table kiosk and it was never delivered. Finally after watching our server pass our table several times , I called them over and asked to cancel the drink I ordered. It had been over 15 minutes at this point. They appeared surprised and said "oh you ordered a drink?" Came back later and said the bar was super backed up. I honestly find this hard to believe since the restaurant had more staff per tables than typical places. So was it that my drink was not acknowledged by my server or the bar? We saw other tables with other servers that had food and drinks delivered to them before ours. Personally, I feel the server was blaming the bar. I saw the bar. There was not an apology. Honestly a "I'm sorry I missed that" I would have just been ok waiting for this long. There was just no accountability for the lack of service. We got our bill. The table check out kiosk froze so we had to wait, again. When I saw our server pass again, we let them know. All in all, the food was great, minus the staple, bloomin onion. The service was minimal. We have never been to a restaurant, let alone a well known chain, that never cleared our table or even asked to fill our waters. The establishment was not busy, our server had , perhaps, 4-5 tables. And being familiar with service in the food industry, this is embarrassing. After $83 ,not including the tip , I doubt we will be back any time soon, if at all. Which is unfortunate, because the majority of the food was tasty. Just the experience and the price wasn't enough to make up for the total cost. We were seated but we waited about 15 minutes before someone came over to take an order for drinks and appetizers. About 10 minutes later we got drinks and a total of another 20 we got our appetizers. We also did not get a bread basket until we asked about it later. The burger finally came over 35 minutes later. Gingerbread fizz: The drink was not what I expected and tasted like limes that were starting to turn bad. There was also a grey, hard fleck on my whipped cream. The only good part of the drink was the little koala The Bloomin shrimp: it tasted like it was covered in burnt crumbs and I couldn't finish it. It also did not come with Bloomin onion sauce as advertised on the menu The Bloomin onion: it also had a burnt flavor The burger: tasted basically like a Big Mac. It's been quite a while since my Grubbing Buddy and I have eaten at Outback Steakhouse in Newport News, Virginia. I believe, at least two or three years have passed since we last visited. We enjoyed the tasty steakhouse back then and, after returning, we were just as much pleased with our meals (if not more) than our last time here. Because we wanted to try the high-end and new pop up steakhouses in the area, sadly, we ignored our old favorite. Outback, we are back! My Grub Buddy had the center cut sirloin, and I had the prime rib medium rare. Lots of folks can't deal with the bright pink color, but the portion is not rare but is thoroughly cooked and oh so tasty! I also had a delightful and refreshing Tito's Cucumber Lemonade (served in a glass too small), and my sweet Buddy had a virgin Bloody Mary. Because of the wait to be seated, we ordered a flight of Margaritas to pass the time. In the future, we will no longer neglect our beloved steak eatery and will definitely return more frequently. read more

We enjoy eating at this establishment. Our food is delicious. It never comes under or over cooked. Steaks are succulent. All salads remain fresh and crisp especially the "wedge" salad. They claim they don't take reservations so we did call ahead seating at 4:30. They said they couldn't seat us until 6:00. We got there at 6. They wouldn't seat us because they said they didn't have a table for us. Yet somehow they were holding 2 big tables for a reservation. In the amount of time we waited for a table, they could have sat us and served us before the other party even arrived. We left and won't be back. Poor management and hostess was rude. Either take reservations or don't but keep it consistent and don't hire rude people. read more

We visited the location in Newport News. Our server was Elise and she was absolutely amazing. She was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and very quick on her feet. She made our experience one that we won't forget, because it's hard to find someone who works as hard as she did along with a great attitude. The only problem we had was that they were out of bloomin onions. Not sure how that happens on a Sunday, but it did. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the Alice Springs chicken, baked potato, and broccoli. It was perfectly cooked and very tasteful. My husband had the salmon, and loved it. When we go back, we will definitely request the Elise if she is there. Also, the lady at the front was so friendly when we entered the restaurant and when we left. You know, sometimes the little things, extra effort, and feeling like they care go a long way with me. This review is mostly about the service that I received. Though the food was good, the service I received when my steak was not cooked to order, and the care in getting the order right made it for me. First, my server, Aiden, was super nice and professional; my wife adored his southern accent and how he kept saying "Y'all." He wasted no time getting to our table to take our initial order. Throughout the visit, he checked on us and kept the drinks coming. When my steak was slightly undercooked, he returned it to get it done right. My steak was brought back by another server or maybe even a cook, and the steak was cooked to my perfection. Then, that same person returned and ensured it was cooked to my satisfaction. Aiden came and checked on me as well. The food was great, and the price was right. Outback has an updated menu, so make sure you take advantage of that. The price was right for what we had, but if you have the app, you can apply for an even better deal. One thing to know about Outback is there steaks are cooked on the rare side - meaning their medium is more like a medium-rare in other places. Lovely visit, always good at Outback. We'll be back. The food came out so fast we didn't have to wait to be seated our server was so funny and playful and made the overall experience fantastic. Went inside since parking lot was pretty empty. Was told 30-40 minute wait. Did we call ahead? No we did not. So went out in the car since we had little kids and called. After giving our name and number.. we waiting 30 minutes in the car.. I finally sent my husband in to get an idea of when we would be seated and the hostess said we would THEN be put on the list with a 15-20 minute wait. I understand Covid and restrictions but there was no clear directions and having little ones waiting that long? ***** so we went back the next day for lunch because that is what I was craving. Again parking lot pretty empty. We called ahead. We went inside when we got there and had our number put on the list. We went back to the car and waited about 10 minutes and got a text. Our waitress was AWESOME! She was prompt and our food was great. She was very happy and friendly. The restaurant was pretty empty. Only a few spots in the bar open, a random few big tables and a few booths. An entire section is closed off so we had to walk all the way around. I feel like maybe be a little more transparent that you're SUPER short staffed and tabled? Honesty is a good policy. I've ate at several other restaurants and they are still thriving, having less tables to be distanced but are straight up about it. This visit was out of the blue on a Sunday afternoon. I decided to head here while listening to a Colts football game on the radio (they won BTW). It is rare that I head over to franchise places for meals these days. Back when I was in college, this was one where I frequented quite a bit for takeout. So what can go wrong? Ordering was pretty easy: go to their website, pick your items and place the order which would be ready in 15-20 minutes. Arrived on time and everything was ready. For my meal, I ordered a Bloomin' Onion (their most popular item) and a half order of Aussie Cheese fries. Just like every order at Outback's, you receive their bread and butter. At first, the meal was fine, but over the next few minutes, the coating around the onions fell apart. And the cheese on the fries seemed like it wasn't melted like it should be. It was just OK. I have been to this establishment for many years and always received great food and excellent customer service. On this occasion the food looked like it could have possibly been a return order. My husband ordered a sirloin as well his came out ok. His broccoli wasn't cooked well and it was still super hard. Visited this location on a Sunday evening around 7pm with my boyfriend. It was busier than I expected and the wait was about 5 minutes before we were seated. The greeter was a young girl who was friendly and I liked that she wasn't just on her phone during down time. She was cleaning menus and helping others. While we were waiting to be seated one of the staff came by with samples of the famous Bloomin' Onion. It was a nice touch especially since we had a brief wait. Now on to our dining experience. Our waitress, Stephanie, was great from the start! Super friendly and helpful. She kept checking on us to fill our waters but it wasn't overbearing. I'm a big fan of the bread at Outback so I was glad to be offered a second loaf without having to ask and feel like a fatty . We were hungry so we put in for an appetizer, the Aussie sampler. It included a small portion of Bloomin' onion petals, Mac and cheese bites, and Aussie cheese fries. The sampler was pretty good but I think it could've been set up better. My suggestion is to put the Mac and cheese bites in the middle because the Bloomin onion next to the cheese fries got kinda soggy together. It was a generous portion though! We were both in the mood for sandwiches and fries so we ordered an Outback burger and a Sweet Chook O' Mine Sandwich. My boyfriend said his chicken sandwich was good but when I bit into my sandwich I was surprised by a ton of mustard and pickles. When I ordered the waitress asked if I wanted ketchup and I think that distracted me from what actually came on the burger to start with. I wanted ketchup but not the other two items. It was definitely a mistake on my part that I didn't fully read the menu but my waitress offered a refire of my burger (minus the pickles and mustard). I appreciate that she didn't make me feel bad about. I hate wasting food so I munched on my fries. A little bit of time passed understandably and the manager brought out my new sandwich. I was so thankful! After we were full from dinner we still had a sweet tooth. We ordered the Double Chocolate Mini Dessert Parfait with Oreos to split. It was delicious, probably my favorite part of the meal (besides the Bloomin' Onion of course). Overall we were satisfied with the meal but VERY impressed with the service! The food was salty and peppery. The service was prompt and excellent. The restaurant was able to accommodate 9 people pretty quickly.

I ordered a meal to go that wasn't complicated (medium steak, salad, and mashed potatoes). The order was ready for pickup in about 15 minutes. I got to the parking lot 5 minutes later and there were about 7 other cars. Each car took between 20-30 minutes. Two other people left after getting tired or waiting and one definitely got their order wrong because they stayed after they got it. At about 35 minutes in the staff asked if I was there for another order to which told them I didn't even get the first. After an hour I went to tell them to just cancel the order but there wasn't even anyone to tell as the desk was unmanned. So I left. To be fair, it was Saturday evening on Memorial Day weekend. Maybe the food is delicious, but I can't rate that since I never got it. I do not recommend using their curbside pickup. read more

The basis of my "perfect experience" includes the greeting when I arrived, the minimum wait for a seat, a terrific waiter (named Forest I believe), who was so friendly, helpful, quick and willing to please, and wonderful food which included their Grilled Chicken with BBQ sauce, a fabulous Baked Sweet Potato with Honey & Brown Sugar and an also-wonderful side salad, PLUS their also-GREAT dark bread with butter....all which I loved! Wish I could say this restaurant was consistent, but it isn't. I remember when they used to serve a great baked potato; it was a nice large tater cooked to perfection. While it still remains delicious, it's only about half the size. Too, they're prime rib is always enjoyable but it's not cut consistently. This was THE WORST dining experience I have had in a long time. There was hair in my butter and I was told oh it was probably was a runner. After that my steak was cooked improperly and so it had to be returned while my sides got cold at the table. I was never offered to return the whole dish. Manager was polite but not willing to make the situation right. We were the first customers in the restaurant and were seated immediately - next to the kitchen opening. My husband commented that it "smelled like a sour rag". I didn't smell that, but it was definitely noisy with clattering and laughing. Our server's name was Brittany, and at first, all went well, but after getting our drinks of sweet tea and Coke, we ordered an appetizer. A family of six came in, seated, and Brittany took their food order, which is a pet peeve of mine. I was a server myself, and you learn not to do that, because in this case, we had to wait for six meals vs our three. I think she should have held them off and put our order in. We each ordered sirloin steak combos, so we are talking $28 each, and all our steaks were cooked to order - but extremely tough. Our chicken, although very small compared to the menu pictures, was very good. Mashed potatoes cold, baked potato & sweet potato were warm. The potato soup was very good. All in all, we tried again after having a not so good experience years ago at another Outback. Guess we finally learned our lesson. read more
