I had their award winning crab cakes while hubby had their special, which was halibut. We tasted each other's food and we agreed that I won. Hubby's meal came with Asparagus. I was given a litany of sides to choose from so I had the steamed vegetables consisting of zucchini, yellow squash, sliced red onions, a few carrots, and snow peas. My plate also had a very tasty side of lettuce, dressed with cilantro. Of course we couldn't resist the chocolate molten lava cake which you must allow the kitchen to add 15 minutes in advance to prepare for you. It came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We were seated in a couples only space, perhaps a third person at one of the tables so it was more intimate than Saturday's, so a better seating experience. Obviously we returned! Twice in the past week, and meals were excellent both times! Steak dinners one night, Seafood another night. Crab cakes were definite winner that night, but the halibut was very good. Very nice atmosphere! Appreciated the staffs attentiveness (greeted us by last name, checked that the steak was cooked to our liking, & even performed a baked potato topping service!). I will say, in my opinion, the food is good but it's not necessarily the best thing i've ever had. I feel like every plate was good, but mediocre. There wasn't anything we really raved about. I feel like all dishes would've tasted a bit better with more spices. The steak frites portion sizing also didn't seem like enough. 3.5 stars, definitely a fun experience but the food isn't thrilling. read more

Was on a golf trip and we went here for a "fancy" dinner (8 guys). This place is a typical higher end steakhouse. Nice atmosphere, good menu, and a bit pricey (expected). With alcohol, like 100-150 a person. We got a bunch of side dishes, salads, main meal, and dessert. I ordered wedge salad, blackened filet (8oz) with potatoes au gratin, and bananas foster cheesecake that is on fire when served. Definitely recommend this place! read more

My husband and I dined in for my birthday expecting a comfortable dinner, they sat us in a room to the left that has cheap seating, wobbly at that. Tables in that room are all close to each other, I could hear dude behind me chewing but the reason we won't be coming back is because though having open dining in the main room it was strange for a certain demographic(black) to be seated in the same room while we kept seeing others being seated in the main room. Went in to meet a friend for drinks and sat at the bar. The bartender was helpful and friendly. The bar, décor, and atmosphere is nice and mostly upscale, as you'd want from a nice steakhouse. They have a decent wine list and their by-the-glass selection was substantial as well. Everything was very nice at the bar, the only issue I had was observing some cross-contamination issues, such as sitting cherries on the bar mat while completing the cocktail and they using bare hands to handling things like that cherry and others. Then not washing hands in between doing other activities. Kind of grossed me out and made me happy I was just drinking wine. read more

My husband and I are in Williamsburg for a weekend without the children. This is one of the best dinners we have ever had. The honey butter is to die for. Went to Opus 9 for dinner the evening. Our first time there and was greatly impressed by the level of service, excellent food, and atmosphere. We arrived early for our five o'clock reservation and was immediately seated. Our server was Eden, a great asset in that he was on his A game with us. He took time to explain the available entrees that would part of the Marriott Fords Colony dinner package they have. I had salmon and smashed potatoes with seafood bisque and New York cheese cake. The Admiral had Busti steak, sweet potatoes, New York cheese cake cake, with wine. The food was scrumptious and Eden took very good care of us seeing to our needs and providing refills on our drinks without us running out. Great conversation with him about the food and our options. We saw a good crowd start to come in just after we arrived and saw him draw a party of 8-10 people while he was serving us. Dry impressed with Eden's service and the way he treated us. I would highly recommend this restaurant. When we left I spoke with the manager and told him of our great experience and that Eden appeared to be a great asset to their operation there. read more

Reservations are a MUST! We have taken care to frequent Colonial Williamsburg for decades; Probably the Christmas season is our favorite, and the long hot humid summer is the season we avoid. Any frequent visitor to Greater Williamsburg is in for a culinary treat; we focused our first few years on Colonial Williamsburg dining, and we still recommend the historical taverns. Caveat: Explore Greater Williamsburg dining because there are wonderful options. I am reluctant to specify our favorite restaurant; however, OPUS 9 Steakhouse is always a must dine visit during our colonial holiday. I do not wear my Continental Army General's uniform to this restaurant (I may wear the uniform to colonial taverns). OPUS 9 Steakhouse is one of Williamsburg's best; OPUS 9 Steakhouse is a handsome property, with handsome ambience. Servers are well trained, and we have enjoyed excellent experiences. We recommend calamari as appetizer. She: Lump Crab Cake or the filet depending on her mood. He: Boneless Ribeye. 'Tis fine that we reside in Marriott's Manor Club at Ford's Colony during our colonial visits because we will have boxes to go. Came on 12/30 to celebrate a milestone birthday for my husband which I told them before we arrived. Our service was slow and then the salads and appetizer came out at the same time after waiting forever. My filet was tough and my husbands crab cakes were mostly filler and very wet on the inside. It was an extremely disappointing night which should have been special. They added a small happy birthday placecard on the table except nobody actually acknowledge it. I'm not really a desert eater, but I splurged and had a beautiful glass of port wine and the crème brûlée . The crème brûlée was the best I've ever had. It even beat the crème brûlée I had in Paris. We LOVE Opus 9!! Service is wonderful. The one thing Opus is NOT.... pretentious versus other fine dining establishments. The staff waits on tables without hovering. A conversation can be held without interruption from someone sweeping away crumbs, topping off water glasses or refolding my napkin. The next table sat a young couple clearly on a budget and having a celebratory dinner. They asked for items that could be shared. The waiter helped them out and gave them suggestions without making them feel uncomfortable. The couple seemed VERY appreciative. read more

My husband decided to surprise me with going to this steakhouse to celebrate my birthday. I had been eyeing this restaurant for a while and was extremely delighted when we got here. We were immediately seated and brought our choice of water (bottled, sparkling, or tap). Kersten was amazing, and explained the menu to us as it was our first time. We got crab cakes as the appetizer, two cowboy cut ribeye steaks-one was with butter and the other au poivre style-and for dessert we got the creme brûlée. Overall the entire dinner was great, between the restaurant decor, service, food, and drinks we had such a great time. If you are ever in the area highly recommend dining here. read more

He was attentive and personable. Hubby and I both started out with the seafood bisque soup. It was wonderful. Hubby had a steak that was cooked to perfection, and my crabcakes were amazing. We came here for a girls lunch and it was quite nice. We had a reservation and though we arrive promptly on time it still took them 10-15 minutes to get our table ready. Not a fan of that so I could not give them a 5 star review. The ambiance was busy but professional. Our server was Matt and he was very nice and attentive. I ordered the seafood bisque and I love they did a pour over of the bisque over the crabmeat so you can see exactly how much crab you'll get with the soup. It was DELICIOUS and had the crunchy leaks added to the top. I love a texture moment. I had catfish and it was tasty. My sweet potatoes were buttery but not well mashed and it could have used some cinnamon but they were palatable. The green beans were seasoned to perfection! When the dessert menu came I knew I wanted the chocolate cake however I didn't get the menu until we were finished with our entrees and there's a note that says to order it with the entree. There's no way to know this with the entree so it's a bit out of place to note that there unless they're going to put the dessert menus on the table with the main menus. The cake came and was VERY rich. If you like that then you'll love this. Overall great experience and definitely recommend trying it out. It is pricey though so be prepared. read more

The Opus 9 Steakhouse really has it together with amazing food and service. We were here on a timeshare perk, paying just $49 for 2 dinners which were 4 courses, an almost unheard of experience. The meals began with warm, oven fresh, crusty sliced loafs of bread, honey butter also. Following that was a rich, delightful cream of seafood bisque topped with crispy bacon. We loved it. The lettuce wedge with blue cheese dressing and blue cheese crumbles lead the way to the entree. For the entree, we both selected the 18oz ribeye, another hit, sided with garlic mashed potatoes under al dente asparagus. Dessert was luscious, a brownie torte, very gourmet. Also their cheese cake was drizzled with raspberry sauce. The white wines-Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc were good quality wines, a nice pairing to enjoy with the dinners. The servers were all very professional and efficient, they knew their profession well and how to please customers. Great job to all. This was truly an event to remember. We had a fantastic dinner at Opus 9. We were celebrating our 35th Wedding Anniversary in Williamsburg and decided to splurge a little with a fun night at a higher end steakhouse. We started with an order of the calamari, which was cooked to perfection. The salad with blue cheese dressing was just right. My wife enjoyed a wonderful 8oz filet and I went with an aged New York strip cooked to a perfect medium rare. Dessert was wonderful and a perfect finish to a great dining experience. Our waiter, Fredo, was incredible. He brought the whole evening together for us with outstanding service worthy of a top end steakhouse. He made the evening perfect for us with his excellent attentive service. The experience and ambiance of the evening as a whole was wonderful and I would highly recommend this restaurant for a great evening out. read more

I have eaten here several times - it is almost like the food and service get better each time. To start, the restaurant is very intimate ... the lighting, the perfect volume of the music, the decor. Every time I have dined here, the manager or Maitre D touches the table to check in - it always feels very genuine and sincere. Second, the food is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the tuna appetizer - it is perfect to share between two-three people. The filet mignon melts in your mouth and is perfectly cooked to my liking every time. The Mac and cheese side ... there are really no words other than how silky and refined of a dish that is. The servers - you can tell they really enjoy what they do and they take pride in sharing their menu knowledge. This was my first time at Opus 9 Steakhouse and it lives up to the hype. Great meal, service and atmosphere. The wait staff here is extremely personable and professional. They provide such great service you just want to stay all night long. The food is utterly amazing. It is definitely one of the best steaks that I've ever eaten. When you arrive be sure to ask the wait staff what they recommend so they can guide you. Takes very few words to rave on this restaurant. From bread to dessert, the food was amazing! The steaks, salad and potatoes were perfectly prepared and served. If you plan on visiting the Williamsburg area then this restaurant should be on your to-do list.
