Decent for the price. Close to the beach, has a small pool. Breakfast isn't anything to rave about (cereal, oatmeal, muffins) but it's included in the price which is nice. Walking distance from some eateries and convenience stores. Service was pretty good, front desk folks were generally friendly and helpful. I booked this place through Travelocity and got a decent discount @ $55 for the night. The hostess was Amanda who was real nice a recommend some good seafood for Thursday night dinner...the Lone Cedar which is about 10 minutes away. Comfortable, quiet and affordable. I asked my other family members who stayed with me what they would give this place. They said 1 star. I'll be nice and upgrade it to 2 stars. Ok, first off it is literally a two-star hotel as hotels are apparently rated. And as two star hotel go, this one is below average. I will start with the only good things. Staff seemed nice. Location is decent. Air conditioning worked. That's it. Downhill from there. The hotel is very dated. Rooms feel like they were decorated in the 70s. Kind of a musty smell to rooms. Beds were too hard and sleep was not easy. Windows don't open if you want any fresh air. The card reader to gain access to entire hotel was broken, so anyone could walk in from the street and be standing outside your door if you open it. There are 3 floors. Wouldn't have been a problem if it was on top floor and you couldn't see it ripped off from the street. Nope, it was the first floor reader, and you could see it was ripped off if you are standing in the parking lot, which is right off the main highway. Security issue that wasn't fixed for the 2 days we were there. I'll say this. I've seen prices on this hotel go down to $80 a night as I'm looking now. If I had paid that price I wouldn't be that unhappy. But we paid $300 a night during June for our stay. Seriously, this place is an $80-$150 max hotel. Wish I had paid $80 per night for our stay. Staff was super nice and checked in on us a lot. Tried to help us as much as they could. They were willing to make accommodations for us which was very kind and helpful. Had some problems with the grill, igniter button doesn't work so bring a long lighter and then it works just fine. Get to our room which consisted of a very UNCOMFORTABLE bed, stained chair, water damaged wall furniture, non-working telephone, rusted light fixtures, holes in wall, no mirror in bathroom, crappy towels. Asked about the mirror and was told it had just been broken and had no maintenance person to fix it. I was given a large framed mirror which I carried up 3 flights of stairs and my husband hung for them. Advertises breakfast, which there was none. Left for the day and came back to a room that had no maid service so had to go back downstairs (3 flights of stairs) to ask for towels. The worst place I have ever stayed at for the $405 price tag for two nights! Never, never again. read more

We have stayed at this Inn before but the ownership has changed. We wondered if It would be just as nice. It was. The Managers were very nice and called us when we arrived later than expected. The room was very clean. The beds were comfortable. They did not provide a breakfast because of covid but they did provide us with coffee every morning. My husband spoke with someone at the hotel 3x before arriving. He explained the need for a first floor room, as he wears a leg brace giving him limited mobility, so stairs are a challenge. This hotel has 3 floors with no elevator. We arrived late, arranged late check in. Upon arrival we found we were on the 3rd floor. The next morning we checked in officially. They tried to argue that we didn't talk to anyone because there was no note in their computer. Finally agreed to move us to 1st floor the next afternoon. Then they tried to charge hidden fees, we were not made aware of. I argued that. The next day, when trying to move out of 3rd floor room, the Male half of the husband/wife owners proceeded to yell at me because he didn't think we were moving fast enough. The 3rd floor room was claustrophobic. The 1st floor only bigger because it was handicapped accessible. The carpets are in dire need of shampooing or replacement, everywhere. We will never stay there again and do not recommend this establishment to anyone. These people are in the hospitality business in an area that survives off tourism. They know nothing about hospitality. And apparently like to bite the hand that feeds them. There are many other options for lodging. read more

Don't waste your money on this hotel. We came to spend the night after going to a late night music venue. We were loudly woken up at 8:15 am by someone dropping things on the floor above us several times. Then they started banging in carpet padding shortly after on the stairway beside our room. When I went to complain the man said that they didn't start until 9:30am. He wanted to argue with me. He did say he was sorry but when I asked for reparations he said he'd only give me 10% off my next stay. Super- but we won't be back! The staff was very friendly and upon arriving helped us decide on places to eat and best places for drinks :) Our room was clean and ready for us before check in time which was nice. This was an okay hotel. We got in around 9:30. The doors where all locked. We had to call a phone number to have someone let us in because we where a "late check-in". We then had to wait for someone to open the door. Staff was friendly. The room smelled of cigarettes but we booked a non smoking room. It was quiet and peaceful. In the morning my husband and I where laying in bed, and I seen something out of the corner of my eye crawl on the pillow. I jumped up and told my husband to get up. It was a spider. My friends and I recently stayed here for 2 nights and it was great! It was a great deal for the price especially considering how close it was to the beach. The staff was extremely helpful and would do anything to help us out. It has a working ice machine and vending machine. Also, it was understandable why we couldn't enjoy any free breakfast because the hotel staff was only trying to protect the guests from COVID-19 and trying to follow guidelines. Good location, inexpensive, and a very helpful and pleasant staff. Our room was not exactly what I was expecting. The Carpets are pretty nasty, the room was just old and needed a little updating. There is no elevator and we were on the third floor with a new baby and a lot of baby items to carry. The air condition worked great and we had a microwave and a mini refrigerator. The ceiling in our bathroom had mold on it and the tub was patched up with putty and was dirty. The rest of the room was ok and there were no bugs so for the price it was ok. I have been traveling every summer from Philadelphia to the outer banks for the past 24 years and funny as it may seem I had never stayed in a motel or inn while there - we've always rented a house. So when it came time to seek out a hotel to extend my regular weeklong vacation the last week in August I was stumped. I checked out the rates for many of the hotels that had been there for as long as I could remember but everything was priced more than I wanted to pay for 1 night. I came across the Outer Banks Inn's website and I honestly didn't remember seeing the place on my travels before. So I figured it looked pretty decent and I found a great deal for the night and off me and my fiance went. When we arrived I was pleasantly surprised at how at home I felt when we pulled up. You could tell immediately the owners cared about the place and wanted you to feel at home. The woman at the desk was seriously one of the nicest people I've ever met! We checked in quickly and then we were off to our room. The room was just right for us - It was very clean, had a nice - newer tv (a must for my fiancé), free wi-fi, fridge, was decorated nicely and the bed was pretty comfy too. I started to check out some info on my phone as to where we should head for dinner and I checked in on yelp! and to my surprise an offer popped up for a FREE bottle of wine just for checking in at the Outer Banks Inn! I wasn't sure if this was for real so I went down to the front desk and asked the woman and she was like you bet you get a free bottle of wine! Red or white? We were on our way out to dinner but when we came back she had the wine, 2 glasses and a corkscrew waiting for us. Seriously how nice of a gesture is that? The Inn is also in a great location - within walking distance to shopping, food (including OBX Brewing Station), and very close to the beach! My only complaint is the 3 flights of narrow stairs (if you are on the 3rd floor) - it's a bit rough carrying tons of bags and luggage and dealing with other guests going up and down at the same time. All in all this was a great experience and I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a night away or a long weekend. Came down for the wedding expo 2013 and obx inn was highest reviews on price line. Staff was incredibly easy to deal with and let us check in early, quite nice after 5 hours in the car. After a small mix up with the room, which the staff fixed without question, we were in our rooms quickly. You can tell its an older building that's been renovated. That being said the rooms were clean, fresh, bright. Fresh paint throughout the building lends a laid back obx feel that helps relax the mind and body. Only thing I wish had been attended to is the floor way in the hall. Being an older structure the floor would squeak every time someone would walk by. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others. read more

One of the things we truly appreciate about the Outer Banks is its warm and friendly people. Our customer service experiences at eateries and businesses have all been pleasurable...with the exception of the Outer Banks Inn. It was a lone individual, but I had the unpleasant experience that was Emily both at check-in and check-out. I can say without reservation she is the crudest and most ill-mannered individual I have ever had the displeasure of meeting within a hospitality industry environment. We arrived at the OBI after six hours on the road. There was no return greeting, no eye contact, no smile, simply a curt, 'may I help you?' We were informed we were moved to another floor. When one does not make eye contact it most often means either one is painfully shy or lying. I questioned her explanation. In response she became sarcastic and raised her voice. How mature. Next, The machine to activate the room keys was evidently malfunctioning as Emily was unable to provide us with a set of keys. Her response was, 'Well, the room guarantee does not begin until 4 o'clock.' It was 3:45. As other patrons begin to fill the lobby a stressed Emily phoned her general manager and began yelling at him. In front of all of us. Very professional. She was a basket case. The general manager eventually arrived at the facility and the keys were eventually made. We spent over an hour in the lobby. No offer of some water or the use of a restroom. No communication whatsoever. We were ignored. Gee, Emily, what happened to the 4 o'clock room guarantee? Everyone has a bad day. Two bad days, and, well, maybe you're not cut out for the hospitality industry. Her demeanor at check-out was the same as at our initial encounter. No eye contact, no North Carolina 'friendly'. We had a wonderful time at the Outer Banks despite her rude and sour disposition. The hotel is in a good location, a short walk to the Atlantic, but I would avoid the Outer Banks Inn to ensure an overall pleasant experience. read more

My husband and I visited this inn on our anniversary recently and at first glance it looked great but once we got into our room the problems started. The bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable and we didn't get much sleep. The room was extremely tiny and my sinuses were so stuffed I couldn't breathe. The room smelled of mold/mildew, which is probably why my sinuses were stuffed and I couldn't breathe, and I didn't even want to sleep in the bed. The next morning the "breakfast" was horrible. They offered the bare minimum. Stale cereal, the coffee ran out twice, and their carbs (waffles, bagels, muffins, etc...) were in a plastic container that looked like it hadn't been cleaned. Overall, a very nice smaller hotel in the Outer Banks. Close to many attractions, the beach, etc. While the rooms are not huge, what are you really using them for? Showering and sleeping! Very friendly staff....Breakfast in the mornings is basic, but still very good! Cereals, bagels, mini-muffins, waffles(toaster), coffee, orange juice and milk. One of our towels was a little frayed, but it was still clean and served it's purpose. Would definitely stay again next time we're down in that area. read more

i cannot say enough good things about this place! i have been meaning to write this for awhile (seeing as i stayed there in November) so I've forgotten the womans name who was so helpful! My friend and i were on a road trip from Charlotte back home to Massachusetts when we decided to try to find a last minute place to spend the night. they could not have been more accommodating and sweet. she even helped us upgrade to two queen sized beds for the same price as just one! i happened to check in on foursquare after we were settled in and to my surprise they check in special there was a complimentary bottle of wine! we could not have been more excited! they even went through the trouble of keeping breakfast out for us because we said we thought we would have slept through it! all in all we had a great experience and i would stay again asap! read more

For starters when we got the key card and we went up to open room, we couldn't. Every time we swiped it was showing red. We had to go back to the reception, n she changed the card. We still were ok. When we got into the Ron we found out the room was too small for the money. Secondly nothing in the room was right. The tv was placed in from of the mirror . There was no plug points for charging near the bed. Had to place my phone on the floor for charging. Bed lamp wasn't working. To add to this misery, when we came back to the room, we couldn't get into the main door. There was number written on the door to call in case of assistance needed. We called that number and the lady who picked up was nice. She asked us to use stairs n try from there's my husband went the other way, swiped his card was allowed entry. Then we found out(from the lady on the phone) that the door which we were trying was supposed to be used only in day time. No information was given to us on that earlier. We even didn't knew there was another entry. It would have been great if the receptionist who checked us in could have given these important information. read more

I usually stay at the John Yancey but they were booked this past weekend so I decided to try the Outer Banks Inn for a sister's weekend. The receptionist was very nice when we checked in, but that was the best thing about the hotel. When we got to our room there was a very strong mildew smell. We turned the air conditioner on full blast and opened the window about 5 inches which was all it would open, in order to air out the room. When we went out to dinner that night we stopped and bought some air freshener and candles to help with the smell. The room seemed clean, but when I walked around with no shoes on, the bottom of my feet were black from dirt. The bathroom was mostly clean, some stains in bathtub. The bathroom had the smallest towels I've ever seen and they were old and scratchy. What upset me the most was after we returned to the room from brunch on the 2nd day, someone knocked loudly on our door. When my sister went to answer the door, she was basically accused by 2 ladies of smoking in our room. She advised we absolutely had not and was continued to be questioned for several minutes. This seemed very intrusive and rude. There was a smokers outpost literally 2 doors from us outside, and that's where I would bet the smell was coming from. We noticed it smoking several times. No elevators, no ice machine except on first floor, and I witnessed what I believed to be a drug deal late at night in the parking lot. For the price I paid for these two nights, especially during late September on off season, I expected more. read more

I've never been to the Outer Banks before so we were really looking forward to it and since we went in March, the prices were very reasonable. Pros: The rooms were decent size. Great location, able to walk to beach. Very friendly staff. A lot of nearby attractions. Cons: We requested 3 rooms together and were told that would not be a problem yet upon check in our rooms were not together, 2 together and 1 across the hall and down 3 doors. Very loud, we could hear other guests until the wee hours of the night. I was near the ice machine and it woke me several times a night. The other room was next to the outside stairs and people going up/down kept us up at night also. Workers that were staying at the hotel were drinking beer and smoking in the back parking lot until all hours of the night. I did not feel safe coming/going from the hotel after dark. We complained about this to the front desk and she said she would go talk to them about it. Our key cards were turned off after 10am even though check out isn't until 11am. This made for us being locked out while making several trips from the room to the car packing up to leave. Had to go to the front desk to have them reactivate the key cards to finish clearing out the rooms. All in all, this is a nice hotel (albeit old with very little insulation to buffer noise) in a great location but obviously the cons outweigh the pros and we will make another choice when going back to the Outer Banks. read more

Stayed this past weekend 8/1/14. Hotel was a little old and outdated looking on the inside. Room smelt moldy. There looked to be specks of mold on the ceiling (we were on the 2nd floor) and on some of the towels. Walls are paper thin, can hear EVERyTHiNG. Also the shower nozzle the water comes out of was hanging on the wall by a thread. Breakfast is minimal. Definitely over priced for what you get. Although the Hotel was in a nice spot and the staff was very friendly. read more
