    Fried okra. So so good.
    Mary Beth B.

If you're anywhere near Boone, do yourself a favor and go to Over Yonder. This place is exactly what you want a mountain restaurant to be, charming and cozy, with food that is amazing. We started with the smoked steelhead trout hoecake and the skillet okra, and honestly, I could have stopped right there and been happy. The trout was silky and smoky, piled on top of this perfect little hoecake with the right amount of sweetness. Pretty sure it's cooked in bacon fat and the pecans were a crunchy hit. The okra, lightly charred and served with a bright dipping sauce, was so good we kept saying "one more" and then reaching for another. For dinner, I had the pork osso buco special with charred broccolini and grits, and it was out of this world. Pure comfort, and cooked to perfection. The meat fell apart with the touch of a fork, the sauce was deep and rich, the grits were creamy, and the broccolini brought just enough char to balance everything out. My husband went classic with the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans, and it was exactly what that dish should be. Crispy, tender, smothered in gravy, the whole thing was just honest, well-done comfort food. We kept arguing on whose was better. The service was wonderful, warm without being overbearing, and the whole vibe of the place is adorable. We were probably the only no -locals there and it was packed for a good reason! Absolutely go when you're in Boone. This one is worth the stop -- and then some.

After a long drive to Boone, I needed a walk & a drink. Over Yonder was a 15 minute walk and perfect for a drink. They make a very nice old fashion. Enjoyed the potato & brocollni soup with a grilled cheese. Comfort food on a snowy day. The pimento cheese appetizer is delicious. I love the mid-modern look of this place. Groovy. Friendly and welcoming service.

We were a fan of Over Yonder when they were at their old location.. food and ambiance were always spot on. We have eaten at the new location a few times now and each time we have been quite disappointed overall. I wanted to give them one more chance but sadly our last experience was not much better. The new location has lost its charm. You are basically eating in a hotel lobby /bar area, like one would have a hotel breakfast. Not inviting to me. Service was ok but once our food was served ( not by the waitress) we realized there was no salt or pepper on the table. It took about 15 mins before we could flag down our waitress. Was hoping the salt & pepper would have helped the very bland pepper Jack mac n cheese, it did not. It was just basically noodles with zero flavor. Trout was good but cole slaw was not tasty and the veggie of the day sounded really elegant but was just basically sautéed squash, again with no seasoning or flavor. Trout came with fingerling potatoes but got sweet potatoes instead. The griddled meatloaf was good but was on the cold side we also ordered their Expresso Martini special and it was the size of a thimble. Yes, it was only $5 but was still expecting a regular sized drink since it was not advertised as being smaller. I'm really not particular but have been expecting a better meal and experience overall for the price like we use to have at the old location. Sadly, I doubt we will return.

I wish they had more options on their beer list. I'll go back and try some food and a different beverage. Pernicious is about all they had that caught my eye.

It might have just been the holiday rush, but I always figure "busy means good," so my expectations were high--and The Local didn't disappoint. We started with the nachos; they were delicious, though I do wish they came with a bit more meat. For mains, the burger was outstanding--probably one of the best we've had in the entire area. We also ordered the Brazilian steak, which was cooked perfectly and came with great plantains. The quinoa with tofu was good, too, though it was a little dry and would have been perfect with a sauce. The service really stood out. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and refilled my water at least four times without me asking. Great ambiance and an all-around good experience. Definitely worth the wait!

Their bartenders are, to a person, superlative. Haley, Lexi, and Emily (still in-training, though…read moreshe has more-than-ample experience) were all professional and delightful this Boonerang weekend. If only the establishment would spring for cable during the World Cup, my experience of The Social as a "sports bar" would've been unparalleled compared to the other pretenders who decided the U.S. Open was the only "sport" worth airing. If I'd only come for wings and such, I'd've had no notes. But guys, your salads are culinarily (and decidedly) confused. My burrata was delivered atop a spiral of beefsteak wedges, nestled among wild greens, with zero seasoning, which is a hate crime when it comes to tomatoes; golden beets would've elevated it considerably, normally without much consideration... however. I'd thankfully chosen to add salmon, which was cooked to perfection, saving the dish. Haley suggested salt and pepper, which was a clutch move. Given the pleasant part of my previous experience, the salmon salad I ordered two nights later was even more discombobulated. Emily asked what kind of dressing I'd prefer, and I managed to avoid recoiling from the options provided: bleu cheese, ranch, thousand island... and then, finally, a cilantro-lime vinaigrette - the only suitable option. Instead of a deep plate, this was served essentially as a "bowl" that one might receive from delivery, only in a ceramic vessel. "Crispy" garbanzo beans (?!) were in one section of the plate, worse green olives than came with my martinis in another, four sad cucumber slices and pickled red onions in yet another, and in the saddest section, under-cooked yellow beets - half-run through a mandoline to make matchsticks, only still-connected at one end into slices to make Hell-deemed beet sporks. Again, all atop mixed greens, which are commonly available, even at Wal-Mart. I didn't deign to more than glance at my neighbors' plates, for fear I'd take even more offense, but the people making food at The Social are either under-staffed or inexperienced, as being unserious would likely wash out if anyone were to pay attention. Regardless, management is to blame for such disappointing experiences, and not their cooks, and certainly not their bartenders. Do better by Boone, and stop reinforcing the notion that standards are somehow lower in the High Country. Don't make me go to Macado's when I visit again next year.

But I wiggled my vehicle into a tight spot and went in for a burger and a beer. I believe there were about 10 to 12 options available on tap, and I went with what was listed as an Irish stout from somewhere in the Northeast. It wasn't bad, though it seemed more like an imperial stout. My sandwich choice was the Cowboy, with ground elk at its core. It was a good choice too, and the accompanying fried onions and melted cheese complemented the meat well. I ordered the burger medium, but I think I'd go for medium rare if I could go back in time. The medium option wasn't bad, but I think a little less heat and a little more moisture would only make things better. I kept things simple with the side item, going for the fries which were of the thinly sliced McDonald's variety, not bad but nothing remarkable. The server covering my table was pleasant and prompt, though soft spoken so I occasionally had to ask her to repeat herself amidst the music and noise. I wouldn't call any of these selections a bargain, but the prices didn't veer too far from what you'll find in many burger joints. All in all, not an earthshaking experience, but a place I'd be willing to go back to. 3.5 stars.

The room walls are thin so we heard a lot of noise from the outside waking us up early in the morning. You also have to pay for parking at 25 a night but there was a lot of construction making it difficult to get our car out. I know not the hotels fault but definitely keep that in mind. They had really nice robes. They also had a sound machine in the room. We had a thing on the wall that would randomly flash at night and beep. We had issues with the bathroom. The door would not close all the way and We could not get hot water when we tried to shower late at night. We had to go to the front desk and they had to call maintenence which took a bit to work through the issue. Eventually they got the hot water back but an annoying time waster. Our favorite part was the location. It was so conveniently located. They have a front door with access to king street and a back door to Howard street which was convenient. We were able to come and go easily. The rooms aren't huge but had everything we needed including a mini fridge and the shower was really nice. Of note- it didn't have a huge window in the room, just a small one towards the ceiling. There was a tv with lots of channels and a channel guide. We received some coupons and recommendations to nearby businesses which was a nice touch. Our experience was a bit different because it was very snowy so we couldn't enjoy the rooftop bar. The parking was also tricky- they have a loading zone right in front for checking in, but we circled the block several times and it was taken every time so it was kind of a pain to unload our car. We also had trouble finding the parking lot (even with the address, directions and map) which is behind the hotel, across the street and diagonal from the hotel. We had to circle a few times to find it. But that may have just been because it was dark and snowing. Our favorite part was definitely the breakfast. It is at the downstairs bar. It is complementary when you purchase the parking pass, and you order what you want from a menu. They have lots of options, including fresh fruit, hard-boiled eggs, and lots of pastries and baked goods from stick boy bakery in town. We love stick boy so this was amazing! So high quality and tasty! They also have other things available for purchase like avocado toast. They also have coffee from a local coffee shop available all day. We would go back!!!
