The Overland Hotel Restaurant is a tasty restaurant. It was a Basque restaurant in the past but now offers a great alternative to finer dining in Fallon Step into old Nevada and enjoy steak or seafood. There's a full bar next door to wet your whistle. I was passing through the small town of Fallon, Nevada along driving The Loneliest Road in America. I had read that this.....the Overland Hotel was a worthwhile stop for anyone interested in exploring Fallon. After getting my Loneliest Road Survival Guide stamped at the Fallon Convention Center, I thought....why not stop by the Overland Hotel and check it out! It's situated right on the corner of historic Maine Street. It can't be missed. On the roof of the place....it simply says...."Hotel"....lol, that's how "old school" this hotel appeared to be. Also, the entire exterior was painted brick red with a little white awning hanging from the 2nd floor. My initial thought was that this hotel was gonna be a real vintage throwback. And that's exactly how I'd describe the Overland Hotel. In all, it's a combined hotel, restaurant, bar, lounge and saloon all mixed into one iconic landmark. Entering inside....the whole vibe and feel certainly oozed of your typical "dive bar". A no frills, classic bar and saloon dedicated to the blue collar folks out there. I would also slightly describe the ambiance like an old western saloon.....yet I had seen a lot better cowboy saloons along my Loneliest Road journey....especially in playful Virginia City, Nevada. Regardless, I did sit down and grab a drink at the bar. Overall, it was nice, an okay/decent moment to stretch out my legs, relax and unwind after many hours on the road. I would assume the hotel is a vintage type of place to stay as well, blending into the whole "old fashioned" theme. For me, I was content to have had a chance to discover this Overland Hotel as a fine roadside stop in Fallon. For anyone else interested in checking out some other attractions in Fallon, I'd recommend passing by the Naval Air Station (supposedly home of the Top Gun Training facility). Also a few miles just east of town along The Loneliest Road was Sand Mountain Recreation Area.....a unique and desolate spot with land-piles of sand and hills to wander, roam around and explore upon.....similar to but not nearly as majestic as Great Sand Dunes National Park near Alamosa, Colorado. read more

Absolutely glad we made a point to stop in here on our historical road trip around Nevada. There appears to be a restaurant, hotel and bar. We were there in late January. Hotel was built in 1907 and in 1999 was placed on the Nevada Register of Historic Places. Hotel: Thinking at first it would be cool to stay here and absorb some local flavor and history, when I called a few weeks in advance about securing a reservation, I was informed that the hotel rooms are "First come, first serve." I actually have no response to this. I secured reservations at the Holiday Inn Express instead. Restaurant: Was closed when we were there, so I cannot speak to it. We were excited about potentially consuming a Basque meal here, but no go. Bar: Very smokey, but staff was friendly and bar was full of the local town peeps...ranchers, drunks, neighbors, etc. They do have a pool table and lots of stuff on the walls to look at and see, if history is your thing. We had a drink and moved on. Glad we stopped, but other than the comment "first come, first serve" for a hotel room, not sure my memory will note this stop as one of the cooler pieces of Nevada history. read more

This place is a classic country bar in fallon, been here a few times and the drink prices are legit, pabst off the two 20 oz...2 dollars. The music is good and the sound system is solid as well. It has a super cool and old decour that really makes you feel warm and in an old school bar in the West. There is also a game, forget the name, and you roll 5 dice, if you roll 4 of a kind (pure no aces) you win a free drink, if you roll 5 of a kind, you win the pot which ranges and I've seen it as high as 2,000 dollars. Kicker is it's one roll per bartender shift and you have to buy a drink as well...but at 2 dollars that's an easy day. Most people visiting Fallon don't make it out and stay on base, if you go out for drinks swing by this place. Of note, bars in Nevada you're allowed to smoke at so anticipate smelling like smoke at any bar you go out to, hope this helped! read more

I love the OV, you get a great mix of locals, Military, old and young. This is the place that depending on when you go, you are met with the bar full of farmers or packed three deep with the latest military air wing in for training. Everytime something and someone new to meet. The drinks are priced right, they have everything. You can go eat in the dinning room or go outside in the summer and sit down in the grass. Many a great story started or ended at the Overland!! P.S. Sometimes CC are accepted, sometimes not if the machine is broken. But there is an ATM machine by the JukeBox! Built in 1908, it's the oldest western saloon, basque dining and hotel around next to Virginia City. Lots of eye candy , quirky, historic art, fun people, juke box totally rocks, outdoor tables are comfy, great food [I ALWAYS have the spaghetti at $6.95, comes w/ salad and bread], hotel rooms above are affordable at $30 a night I think [no pets allowed though]. If you're passing through town and want to stay downtown, definitely stay here and not a boring box motel you won't remember. Go to this place, talk to the people in the saloon, hear old cowboy poetry, some truths, and some untruths, they get all kinds of folks, ALL of them have a fascinating story to tell. read more

Saloon plates = dinner a la carte Dinner = Soup (choice of potato, onion, or chowder) all great, plus bread, then salad, then beans, then plain spaghetti, then your main course with some amazingly potatoey fries. Wine's included, so take advantage of it, or you can get drinks from the bar. Nothing comes on the same plate, it's all served in mixing bowls. I had the trout, wonderful pink fleshed crusted rainbow trout. The cooks made fresh tartar sauce just for me! Buddy had the steak, but he was pretty full by then, and didn't have much to say about it. Decor is very interesting, but it was kind of dark and hard to see in there. Nice family style dinner. Went here with about 20 co-workers and considering the size of the party the staff did an admirable job handling it all. I had the House Steak (10 oz New York) medium rare. Not a whole ton of flavor on the outside but it was perfectly cooked inside. I had it saloon style with a side of fries and a diet coke. Final total was $22 including tip, not too bad. read more

There's a bath tub in the bathroom,,,, need I say more??!!! That's like every drunk girls dream, isn't it? Or is it just me?? lol Any-who! The best thing about this place is the location itself. It's in a historic hotel, great ambiance, nice people. I have to say that I expected a little more when it came to the food. Not bigger quantities, just better quality. Still, it was ok. Despite living fairly close to Basque restaurants in Northern Nevada, I've never partaken, primarily because I was scared by the enormous quantities of food served. But I was invited along to the Overland while at a recent conference and figured it was worth trying once. The Overland is an historic hotel, saloon and Basque restaurant located in one of Fallon's nicer sections (i.e. a few blocks off Highway 50). I only saw/spent a few hours at the restaurant, where for the price of your entree ($16-25) you get all the fixins - soup, salad, beans, pasta, bread, and all the sweet wine (think Manichewitz, but sweeter) you can drink. The food was decidedly mediocre, a bit on the bland side, but apparently that's how Basque food is. So it's no wonder that the Basque cocktail, a 'pecan', is potent enough to make you forget the lack of flavor. Definitely recommend having a few of those - as part of the whole experience, natch. I was with a group of 20, and would definitely recommend going with at least a few friends to enjoy the whole family style environment. And to really piss off the waitress, make sure everyone asks for separate checks (as we did). Just be sure to tip her well for that effort, as apparently they don't have a calculator in the saloon - just an abacus. read more

Have been here to the restaurant twice in the last couple of months 1st I had the Asian soup and salad the with a little kimchee on the side and beer from the bar next door. 2nd time I had the an excellent rib eye steak and some spring rolls. Over all the everything was excellent the food was great and I love the old west atmosphere Next time I will try the Basque chicken breast. I understand the restaurant is under new management, so if you have been here before you should go again to see how the new proprietors are doing. read more

We were absolutely discriminated against at this establishment. I asked for a room and was told one was available. Told my husband to grab his ID and come on in. Once they saw that the "little white girl" was with her Mexican husband, their attitude changed immediately. They conversed quietly in a corner for a few seconds then informed me that actually there weren't any rooms. That's ok though...we stayed with Dave at America's Best Value Inn and Suites and had a wonderful experience. Go there instead. Not only will you get a very clean room, but you'll have a hilarious friend in Dave. No discrimination there. read more

Restaurant newly reopened; any reviews before 2016 may not reflect current status. Not sure about the hotel itself or the bar. Good food and outstanding service. Portions were great, prices were low, and they treated us and our young children like royalty. I had the Basque chicken dinner, and my wife had the honey glazed chicken. Both were very good, and the chicken dinner came with enough sides to feed the kids and stuff us as well. The staff there were extremely friendly and attentive. Wish we'd tried this place sooner, and/or tried it under prior management so we could compare. Great local option in Fallon. read more

What an amazing experience!! So we had been at Burning Man for the week - hot and dusty - and were on our way home after leaving the campsite at 10pm. We wanted to stop and take showers and get a good night's sleep before starting the long drive to Texas so I Yelp'ed the nearest hotel along the route and...voila!....Overland popped up. It was around 11pm when I called and wasn't sure what to expect since it sounded like a small place from the description. DD the night manager answered the phone and we could hear pool balls and laughter in the background - she was delightful!! Had plenty of rooms at very reasonable rates and yes - she would stay open until we got there around 130am. AWESOME So we get there, meet the 6-8 people who were still in the bar with DD, each got a cold draft beer and headed to the room. Old West Style boarding house rooms where there's a sink, bed and closet in the room and a bath down the hall. Very cool and clean, clean, clean. The next morning we met Petey who told us about the building's history and when we tried to buy a t-shirt he just gave it to me (as long as I'd take a picture with him :) ) and then gave the boyfriend a "gimme" hat with Overland Hotel & Saloon on it. Wished us well, gave us coffee for the trip and got us on our way. We will dEFINITELY stay there again when going through Nevada and will probably stay longer next time! read more

My first experience with Reno and all the glitzy glitter was here at the Overland Hotel which I was told once had been in existence since 1908? I stayed here first time ever coming to Reno and the year was 1967 in March after returning from Vietnam and on leave from the US Army with a pocketful of saving bonds which I cashed in to buy a used car and finance my foray into Nevada? I drove down in my then just purchased 1963 VW Bug and parked behind the Overland Hotel on their then gravel parking lot as fate would have it? The Hotel then was simply just one big noisy room with tables, slot machines also prints of old west bad guys and sheriffs on the walls! Also I should mention there were High stake private games upstairs so I was told? The drinks were cheap and plentiful which is mostly what all I cared about then other than watching the cute Keno runners and trying to figure out a way to meet one of them? I being pretty ignorant as far as card games go played lots of Keno and some Blackjack and roulette maybe once but I mostly drank a lot being and young Dumb! A breakfast then was only $3.99 ! Well my second day that afternoon I hit the right numbers on a Keno game which paid out $1500 and so I quit gambling right then and have barely ever gambled at all since! I went to the bar for a while then returned to my room to sleep off the whiskey I had consumed at the bar until next morning when I rose and ordered a breakfast of steak n eggs. I then left town and back to Portland where I was temporarily staying with my parents! I Put it all into the bank and left for Arkansas for a visit to my kin before going on to Ft Hood Texas which was my next and final duty station before my final discharge that fall! have been back several times through the many years since then and stayed here 2-3X again except once when I had my kids with me! ! We stop here whenever we are in Gallon. Historic site and great Basque family style dinners. I love, love, love their beans.

Good food, Great atmosphere. Food: It's family style. You share most of the dishes with your party. There's a ton of food. We decided on the tomato-basil soup- very good, very creamy- almost rich enough to pour over pasta and call it a sauce. There was garlic bread (okay), salad (lettuce w/ a simple vinaigrette), beans (really good- lots of flavor, good texture), spaghetti (I thought it was just okay, the SO loved it), and wine (yes, wine is included with the meal- it's cheap jug wine, but hey, its free) then came the steak my SO ordered- cooked to perfection, nice char, good flavor. I opted to just do the "sides" as I knew I wouldn't be able to eat much more than that. In addition to a few steak options and some other "normal" dishes, they also offer things like sweetbreads and rocky mountain oysters (look 'em up of you don't know) I was thinking of trying some but chickened out at the last minute. Drinks: 4-5 tap beers available, including Newcastle and Fat Tire, a full bar, and a (very popular) specialty called "Picon punch" that I'm pretty sure was straight alcohol. However, for $3.50 it could be the liquid courage needed to try those Rocky Mountain Oysters. Atmosphere: Great mix of folks- Young, old, locals, military, business and casual. the building is great- old historic hotel with 12 ft ceilings and nostalgic mementos and western-themed paraphernalia and stuffed animals. and a tub in the dining room bathroom :) Plus they have a nice little side yard with a few places to sit and a horseshoe pit! I am on a mission to weed out inaccurate restaurant reviews in Fernley and Fallon so we decided to finally try this place for ourselves. Kind of tucked back -out of sight- one block off Maine Street in Fallon. Restaurant is under new ownership. The building is historic, very cool, old, rustic...something you would find in an old town like Virginia City. The staff was very friendly. The menu was thorough...steaks, chicken, sandwiches, etc. The Basque dining is incredible. We had to try it. I ordered the Ribeye Steak Basque Dinner...for $30 you are guaranteed to take food home. The dinner comes with Soup, Salad, Beans, Bread, Spaghetti, Seasoned Fries and my Steak. Also soft drinks, all you can drink house wine and dessert included in the meal. The salad was fresh and crisp, the soup was good and had great flavor, the bread was outstanding (more like Texas toast), the beans were more like split pea soup flavored with ham...kind of green colored but good, the spaghetti was ok not great, the fries were cooked perfectly and had a slightly sweet flavor seasoning and the steak was cooked perfect and had a lot of flavor. The house wine was tasty, and the dessert was incredible. Very good dessert! Actually amazing dessert. I had the triple mousse dessert. The staff was very accomodating. They checked on us regularly. Everything we requested was done quickly and spot on. Our first visit was very good. If you have a large group this is really a great place to bring them. Family style "BASQUE" dining is great for groups. We will be coming back here very soon! read more
