Tour n/a, but you can wander around the property, and again the trail. Overall 5/5 Drive-worthy? It is a bit of a drive from Asheville or Charlotte. There are other wineries nearby, so you could make a day trip for wine-tasting and stop by here. Otherwise, it is a bit of a drive with not much else in the surrounding area. It isn't often that we visit a winery where we are served better and wine with each wine poured. This happened here. An inside and outside tasting area is available. The area is beautifully decorated. Tasting is $15 with 1.5 oz poured of each wine. No need to pick which wines to taste, here they provide a taste of each. We really liked the opportunity to try them all. There was A food truck onsite, The Olive Catering Co., took orders table side and brought to the table for you as well. Food was excellent and matched well with the fine wine we were sampling. Service by the staff was excellent and we were well taken care of. Their wines are French-style and outstanding and can't really say enough about them. Highly recommended. read more

My wife and I started going to NC wineries 18 months ago and are now up to 27 wineries visited. OMV is in our Top 3. We judge based on 3 criteria: 1. Wine (quality, obviously) 2. Aesthetics (infrastructure and view) 3. Vibe (people, service, feel of experience) In these categories, OMV scores 5, 4, 5 stars out of 5. Splendid wine lineup - perhaps NC's best Cab and Rose. Merlot, Cab Franc and red blend all excellent. Their whites rock - the Petite Manseng is absolutely phenomenal and the stainless char outstanding. And YES! these folks are smart enough to serve in Riedel glasses to assure max flavor in every bouquet and taste. Indoor area a tad small esply when visitor quantity is up. Outdoors feature gorgeous views of vines & panorama in pleasant outdoor seating in well-kept surroundings. The peeps rock at OMV. We brought friends who just moved from CA and were blown away at how Frank and Sofia both spent time and were transparent and interesting to share time with. Relaxing with the Great Danes lounging is so chill! The bottom line of any visit is the gut feel one experiences when one walks away from a winery. People were laughing and lounging, well behaved dogs were running around, the wine was lovely and the crackling fire in the pit cut the chill in the air. The most amazing part was sitting outside on a perfect autumn day, overlooking glorious hills of grape vines. This is my new favorite vineyard for tasting. There are several vineyards with tasting rooms in Western NC. I chose to visit this one on a Sunday afternoon as online I saw there was a fire to sit by. It was less than ten miles off I26. On arrival, I found the tasting room to be lovely and cozy. Other patrons tasting wine had lounge chairs surrounding a fire pit outside overlooking the vineyard. The vintners circulated with the wine and kept track of where we were in the tasting. There were two whites, two reds, and a port. The Patriot Red was a wonderful red. It was great for sipping and would pair well with a hearty dinner. I enjoyed the education they provided about each wine and the nuances of its production. For $10, five tastes and a keepsake glass are provided. If you get sleepy from day drinking, the kuerig on site is a great idea. read more

Warning! I am not a avid wine drinker! Craft beer is where my heart is... Stopped on by with a make shift winery tour for my fiancé. THIS PLACE IS BEAUTIFUL!!!! The views from the seating area are breathtaking and super relaxing. The chairs are plentiful and extremely comfortable! The staff was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable! We came in just about an hour before closing and wanted to do 3 wine tastings. We were quickly sat (the workers moved the chairs were we wanted to sit without hesitation) and were brought crackers and some strawberries, and a glass pitcher of water. The majority of wines were good, remember I do not drink wine. They offer an large selection of wines, cheeses and odds and ends to choose from. By far this place had the best sangria! This is one of the better wineries in this general area. We were welcomed by the owner, who took time to explain his business and the process by which he makes his wine. The wines we tasted were all solid. Two kinds could be called experimental - one was a white port wine, one was a white muscadine wine. Both were solid, well-made, respectable wines. Especially the muscadine surprised us - for a grape that's very hard to work with, the wine OMV makes out of it is great. The scenery is absolutely beautiful, the great dane dog that lives here is very friendly. The staff is friendly and helpful. My husband and I would not come back here and seek it out, but if we are in the area again we'll be back to see if Overmountain has something new to taste. If you're in the mountains south of Asheville anyway and like wine, it's worth coming by here too see what North Carolina can do with home-grown grapes. read more

My husband and I learned about Overmountain vineyards from the staff at our hotel during a mini vacation. The vineyards are beautiful, Frank the owner, and everyone we met were so nice, knowledgeable and passionate about this place. We did the full wine tasting which was very reasonably priced and stayed for about 1.5-2 hours. Every wine we tasted was delicious. We ended up purchasing the Revolutionary Red but will definitely purchase again as they do ship. This vineyard is a gem. If you are ever near Tryon, stop by. read more

I am amazed at the beautiful wineries in our area. This is another gem that I'll want to visit over and over again. The owners really go out of their way to make sure everyone has a great time. The property has a historic trail that you can hike with a picnic and enjoy the property. The wines are all fantastic with different wines that will please whatever your taste. My favorites were the Kings Mountain Rose' which is 80 percent merlot aged in stainless and 20 percent carden aged in oak. A Patriot Red, a very dry, with a nice oak flavor. Then there is a muscadine that is not your typical sweet, it is a very smooth mellow taste. read more

What a great little winery! This place is gorgeous, relaxing, and has some great wine. There is so much to love with this winery. My friends and I came here on a Saturday, and this was the second of three wineries we hit. When we came in the front, an employee informed us that we could do the tasting inside or choose a table outside on the patio and she would bring the tasting out there. It was a gorgeous day, so we decided to take our tasting out to the patio. The patio area is gorgeous, with a lovely view of the vineyards and the mountains. The employee quickly brought out some waters and first of the tastings. This was definitely a service I was not used to at a winery. She brought out the correct wine each time and was very knowledgeable about their wines. All of their wines were delicious, but their Muscadine was my favorite wine there and one of the best muscadine wines I've had. Muscadines tend to be overly sweet, but theirs was delightfully balanced and smooth, since they do not add extra sugar. Their rose was delightful and interesting as well (I have never had one made from a merlot), and their blackberry was amazing as well. With most of their wines under $20 and the tasting itself was less than $10, it was well worth the trip. I would definitely come back here again. Lovely, lovely, lovely! read more

Took a weekend trip after a canceled flight to Denver, CO and ended up here. Beautiful scenery and polite staff. It's a very casual atmosphere where two of the local Great Dane wondered around (they were very friendly and only approached if called over. By far some of the best behaved animals I've ever saw). The wine tasting was $15 of pure bliss poured by a a knowledgeable young lady. Absolutely enjoyed our time here and will be back very soon. read more

I had been dying to check this place out after reading reviews and seeing pictures. Although the day we were able to visit wasn't particularly nice outside, I can see why so many people enjoy this winery. Can not wait to come back and sip on a glass of wine and enjoy the property's view! We came on a Saturday so we expected it to be busy. Timing played in our favor and we were able to snag some stools at the counter. We were well taken care of and never felt rushed even though there was so much going on. The owners were happy to answer questions and educate us on their wines. My husband and I are newer to wine drinking so we thoroughly enjoyed being educated! We enjoyed nearly everything we tasted and walked away with several bottles to take home. Looking forward to visiting again!! read more

The place is about five miles from 74, but definitely worth the detour. It's a beautiful winery, and the staff is great. The wines are tasty, and they have some snacks--cheese, crackers, and salami. The seating are was away from vineyards, so our kids were able to play hide and seek without disturbing the grapes or other patrons. We'll be back soon. read more

This place is AMAZING! The hospitality is amazing, the ambience is breathtaking, and the wine is PHENOMENAL. They serve different cheeses and crackers that you can get with your bottle of wine. The Overmountain Vineyard is a family operation, and the family is obviously at home in their work environment, which is seen by their dogs sharing the space with them. On my visit, I was able to make the acquaintance of Jackson, one of the large Great Danes who occupies the winery with his family and greets guests with his trademark enthusiasm. Although the vineyard is a 20-minute drive from my home, I found it well-worth the trip, and would recommend packing a picnic lunch and planning to spend the day. The man doing our tasting spent a lot of time with us, telling us all about the grapes and the process of wine making, even giving us a brief, impromptu tour of where they make the wine. we hadn't thought of it, but folks next to us brought their own picnic lunch which they were permitted to take down to the creek with their wine. This is a slice of heaven! We recently went here for a bachelorette party and they took great care of us! Mindy and I coordinated beforehand for a tasting and lunch to be brought in from a local caterer. We got there and they had a table reserved, yummy salads, sandwiches, and wraps from the caterer, and a perfectly timed wine tasting. It was reasonably priced (truly a little less expensive than what I would expect for the amount and quality of what we got). Service was EXCEPTIONAL! Everyone was attentive and accommodating. The atmosphere is amazing. Gorgeous views of the vineyards, lots of chairs and tables to sit outside, and shaded areas if it gets too hot. The inside was cute and well maintained with a local, homey vibe. I cannot rave enough about this place. I live four hours away from here, but I will be back! read more

If you are looking for a relaxing day with friends, food and wine this is the place to go. All the wines are excellent. The Sangria is delicious and they still have bottles if their port in stock which was my favorite. The staff was very friendly and professional. They have a nice area of tables with large umbrellas to sit at as well as picnic tables, Adirondack chairs and a BBQ grill. They have a good selection of crackers, meats and cheeses to snack on or you can bring your own and have a picnic. The location seems remote but is easy to fined, less then 5 minutes off of Highway 74. We really enjoyed our time there and are already planing on returning next month. read more

My wife and I stopped here on a whim last weekend, and we're so happy that we did. The wine is delicious, the service prompt and friendly and the atmosphere is beautiful. We sat out front overlooking part of the vineyard with mountain views. For being a fairly small place, seating wasn't an issue and we didn't feel crowded by other patrons. We each ordered wine tastings, which included 7 small glasses of different wines, all were great. Our primary server was the daughter of the owner, who is also directly involved with the wine making, so the knowledge she has while serving you is wonderful. Another thing we loved was that the wine here isn't overly sweet, like so many NC wines can be. I highly recommend a stop here, especially if it's a beautiful day to be outside. I didn't give 5 stars only because at times we felt a little rushed to start on the next glass, but it was fairly busy that day also, so it's a very small gripe. We will absolutely be back! I have to change my previous negative review of my experience with Overmountain Vineyards. Since my original post they have contacted me to explain what occurred with my complaint and their original offer to replace the wine. Apparently there was a mishap with a phone and messages lost. Since then I have received a package with three bottles of wine. I appreciate their generosity in going over and above just replacing the one bottle. We have not tasted the wines yet as we have been busy with guests visiting, but we are looking forward to them. Thank you to Sophia Lilly. Maybe I should have tried one more email (a third) before giving a negative review, but with their phone problem I don't think it would have gone through as happened with the prior emails. read more
