The location has a unique charm--accessed by a small path that leads to what appears to be someone's home, with the lower level and backyard thoughtfully transformed into a cozy winery. It truly felt like spending time at a friend's house in the woods. The owners were incredibly kind and took a genuine interest in Luna. We chose to sit outside around a fire pit, enjoying the peaceful natural surroundings. The wines were excellent--we ended up taking home a couple of bottles! read more

This is one of the best stops we've made since relocating to the upstate a year ago. The owners are very kind and knowledgeable and ready to share that with you. The enthusiasm for wine and friendliness is infectious. We sampled several wines and bought a couple bottles. Try the black rose (?). As good as it was it was not the best wine we had but definitely the most interesting with lots of flavors we have never experienced. Love, love, love the vibe. Owners Tony and Debbie make you feel like you're family. High school sweethearts originally from New York who moved to Florida and are now halfbacks in SC. Wellborn - winery in the woods. They have 24 different wines that you can sample. Wine tasting is $8 for 6. They have your regular grape wines and other types of fruit wines. They have a small tasting room but have enough room in their covered patio. But outdoor seating is available all over the property where you can sit enjoy nature with some of their award winning wines. They have their dog Lily on the property to greet their visitors. This place is dog friendly - so you can bring your fur baby. Their hours are are Friday and Saturday from 12 - 7. Other days by appointment. 10/10 recommend this please. I love that this winery is local and I don't have to cross the state line! It's easy to find and has plenty of parking. Once you arrive, signs lead you to the back porch where you'll be greeted by the friendly owners. The options here are nice as you can get 4 larger samples or 6 smaller. All of the wines are good and we usually end up taking a bottle or two home. read more

The owners are incredibly friendly, making you feel like you're in your own backyard. They encourage you to walk the property and get an up close and personal look at the vines! They offer tastings and full bottles. The tastings are 5 samples for $6 or 10 for $10. They have a vast selection of white and reds, as well as dessert wines. This winery is about a year old. Recently discovered, I decided to explore it with my best friend. To my surprise, it was only about 15 minutes from my house. Parking is limited so carpool if you have a big group. They also have a carriage house that they rent out on Airbnb which is very cute. The owners are adorable and they make their own wine in house and on site. They are extremely proud and will shares stories and their process. Talking to them and getting to know their background was a lot of fun. They really make you feel at home. They have very well priced tastings. I chose a 10 for $10 and you get to keep your glass. I loved all 10 wines I tasted. I'm more of a muscadine wine drinker and they had a lot of options for me and even let me taste an extra peach wine that wasn't on the menu. Bottles range up to $20 so those are reasonable as well. This winery in the woods is definitely a place to explore and bring your girlfriends! They even have some craft nights that they are starting up. Add them on fb to keep in the know of what's going on. They took a picture of us and posted it later in the day. We actually accidentally ran into the Wellborn Winery during a girls' weekend and ended up loving the wines. We went in for a wine tasting and were super impressed with Tony, his wine knowledge, and his passion for the business. The atmosphere was laid back and very welcoming and the surroundings are very peaceful and relaxing. One of my favorite wines was the Rustic Red while my friend picked the Deep Purple as her fav. Our group of 4 friends was visiting local vineyards and found Wellborn online. Since it was on our way home, we made it our last stop of the day. We were surprised at first to find a winery that was part of someone's house, but Debbie couldn't have been more welcoming. She gave the (recent) history of the winery and gave us plenty of options to taste. We each selected 5 wines to taste. Our favorites were the Appalacian White and the El Campo red. Seeing a posting in Travelers Rest Here's info about the area we realized we had a winery within a 5 minute drive of home. In less than 6 hours we were there to check it out. Tony and Deb are a charming couple that in moments from meeting you feel like you've known them for years. We choose to sample 10 wines for $10 (which includes a glass!) and liked every one we tasted. There are several selections from Reds, Whites and Rose to Fruit and Dessert wines. They have some made from their own grapes as well as blends. They are knowledgeable and make you feel right at home, willing to explain their wines as indepth as you like. You can also purchase by the glass and bottles are available. They have an AirB&B which appears delightful and if I didn't live so close I'd be booking it. A relatively new winery, they have already won medals for several of their wines and I predict they will improve every year. We have gone twice (in 2 weeks) and have taken friends and expect that Fall will bring out even more people. Hope to see you there! read more
