Things started kind of slow...sat at the bar and they had no menu's so I waited and waited; finally I went to the hostess stand and got my own menu. You'd think the bar tender could have done that. Anyway, my oyster appetizer came pretty quick and they were outstanding! If the menu came quicker they'd get four stars just for the oysters. Next, I ordered the special, a pork shank which was appealing to the eye but otherwise, just ok. The brussel sprout side was burned and the overall dish was very bland. Fantastic Bloody Mary, but customer service was lacking. Will not be returning. Felt completely discriminated against. The "our doors aren't open to you" kind of feeling that you expect in the 1950s, not an attitude that I expect in 2018 but then again our society is in turmoil so I guess it's changing. We walked in at 1:15pm on a Saturday. Noticed the sign advertised their supposedly fantastic Saturday brunch until 3pm. We were here for my first Memphis in May and wanted a nice brunch and Bloody Mary before the afternoons festivities start. Maybe it's what I was wearing-I wore an off the shoulder t-shirt and shorts. Maybe I wasn't dressed nice enough. Maybe our friendly attitudes and smiles were offsetting. Walked in and were "greeted" (if by greeted you mean someone that obviously could care less that they are a host) and the girl up front said there was a 30 minute wait for a table. As we looked around and counted 9 empty tables. My boyfriend asks "Oh is there a wait because you're short on wait staff?" The girls reply "No it's because all of our tables are full." I might wear contacts, but I'm not blind. The look on her face coupled with the fact that we could count 9 empty tables at first glance..add in her attitude and it was the most uncomfortable experience I've had in a restaurant. We weren't even told the bar was an option. You know the typical "we have a wait list but you can sit at the bar and have a drink while you wait." We had to ask if we were able to sit there. I'm honestly surprised she said yes, she didn't look like she wanted to. We had a seat at the half empty bar and had a drink. The bartender was very nice and offered us menus for food. But we had such a bad taste in our mouth from the hostess that we couldn't stomach food. If I wasn't on the hunt for the best Bloody Mary (I have a list) we wouldn't have even sat at the bar. The two places where we wanted to eat at were booked solid for reservations until around 9pm. We saw Owen Brennan's had seats open immediately, we gave them a try. Best decision ever. It was not overly packed but this was great news for us. We were seated promptly and greeted within 5 minutes of being sitting down. We ordered drinks (I got a Tropicana Martini while my friend ordered a Tiger Tini). She said it was very good. So good that she ordered another one of them as well. My friend got the reddish dish, subbing asparagus and spinach while I ordered the shrimp and grits. She enjoyed her food. I absolutely loved the shrimp and grits. The Sunday Brunch is amazing! We enjoyed it tremendously. Our server suggested we peruse the buffet and get a variety of food before we get the custom omelet. Brilliant. We really enjoyed the prime rib w au jus, fried chicken, lemon pepper wings, crawfish etouffee, oysters, shrimp, all of which were surprisingly delicious...all of them. Standard brunch along with southern dishes, 39.00 for all you can eat plus entertainment. The jazz trio was great, Bloody Mary's tasty and the omelette maker hilarious! Fun place to go on a Sunday morning if you are a brunch fan. Unfortunately as funny as the guy was that was making the omelettes mine was way over cooked and tough. He also made me a couple little pancakes which could have been delicious had they not been completely burnt on the bottom. I may return at some point, but not anytime soon. read more

TWO REVIEWS: FIRST Grabbed lunch with some colleagues the other day and once again was very impressed. The atmosphere and service were impeccable. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip with toasted bread which turned out to be a great choice for an app. For lunch I had the shrimp Po-Boy with a side salad. The combination of great bread, fried shrimp, and special sauce was MONEY! The blue cheese dressing was very good as well. Oh, and the bread they bring to the table is good also. Soft, warm French loaves with butter are great complements. We absolutely will be back. SECOND Wife and I returned here for an early dinner a few weeks later. What a classic atmosphere. Reminds me of a fancy restaurant on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer with toasted bread and it was very good. The dip was more of a creamy version of this yummy starter. Tiger, our waiter, brought out some of that yummy bread as well. Wow it's so good. My wife chose the steak and said it was good. I had the salmon on creole rice with spinach. The salmon was really good - great smell, texture, and flavor. It hit the spot. The rice was money as well. We shall return. read more

Wow. Never have I heard so many good things about a brunch and been so underwhelmed during and after going. As a kid born and raised in New Orleans, I thought this might be the moment I could find a regular place to hit up some classic home cookin' food, particularly given the menu. I was sadly mistaken. There were lots of seemingly scrumptious offerings and a wide variety of choices to choose from, of course with the buffet style allowing you to try whatever you want. But if that's the reason most things were subpar, then I'd prefer they decrease the options. Go for the prime rib, omelette stations (with added entertainment value), catfish, and a few other side items. The crawfish etouffee was just etouffee; don't expect to actually taste crawfish. The pastas are dry and stuck together. The desserts were most disappointing. The worst Bananas Foster I have ever tasted and no substance to the other options (creme brûlée, cheesecake, small bites). You may think it's worth a shot, but don't be surprised when it doesn't work out like you expected. The only reason this isn't 2 stars is because of the ambience and jazz band; they help keep it a bit together. read more

We regularly eat a late lunch in the bar area at Owen Brennan's, and love several dishes. The BBQ shrimp is wonderfully spicy and buttery and we often get it for an appetizer. Another favorite appetizer was the Eggplant Victoria with crabmeat. It was absolutely devine and my husband's favorite dish. The Eggplant Victoria disappeared from the menu during covid and we hope and pray they bring it back. Wonderfully crisp eggplant in a piquant sauce with crabmeat and bechamel sauce.......wonderful.....please bring it back. Wonderful gumbo, great shrimp po'boy, wonderful fries and a pretty good bar with a nice wine selection. I have yet to get anything I didn't like there, including the red beans and rice. My ONLY complaint is that they seem to have changed managers and someone changed the music in the bar from wonderful New Orleans jazz and zydeko to elevator music......I mean REAL elevator music.....it is horrible at best and completely takes away the wonderful New Orleans atmosphere that the restaurant once had. I think the new owner/manager needs to visit NO and listen to some good music because this new stuff is horrible. I used to love to take visitors here for a taste of New Orleans, but the elevator music kind of takes away from the experience. My family and I decided to celebrate her birthday at Owen Brennan's our first time experiencing this place and our experience was a great one due to our waiter he was very engaging he help us with our oyster selection and our cocktail selection and he made our visit a very enjoyable one what made me drop a star was due to the fact the waiter was our only server in the whole bar section and he was working that area and doing a great job we had a wait time but it wasn't a long wait my hats off to that gentleman we left him with a nice tip the food was very good and drinks were awesome. read more

I've been wanting to come here for a while. I've seen numerous accolades. I thought it was fine dining with a staff-attended buffet. $160 ($49pp buffet, 2 $14 mimosa carafes, tip) for brunch for two is INSANE for what you get. They don't take Sunday brunch reservations. We were panhandled when walking in. We waited 45 minutes to be seated. We were told the buffet was the only food option available - no menu. No prices were disclosed beforehand. The only thing that was hot & fresh was the omelet bar, which would've been another 30-45 minute wait standing in line. The options were primarily cafeteria food. Low-quality meat & fruit cuts, too much salt. and preservatives. (Endless hot wings and peel 'em and eat 'em shrimp are not my idea of brunch food.) The french toast and deviled eggs were my favorite; I went back for more and they were never restocked. All food was self-serve and nothing was labeled. The mimosas were mostly champagne, so props there! Our waiter was great. The atmosphere and live music had the potential to be nice but it felt touristy. It seems like it wants to be a Vegas buffet with a much different demographic - and no bottomless mimosas. Guests were primarily of color, very loud, and inconsiderate. The tables beside us blasted music and videos on their phones the whole time and kept sending drinks back. There are much better brunch spots in Memphis that offer QUALITY ingredients, no wait, and a great atmosphere for half the price. read more

Sunday, October 29th was the first time I've visited Brennan's Memphis for brunch, post Covid-19 restrictions. Being a proud New Orleans native, I was excited to eradicate my homesick mood with the classic, elegant renowned atmosphere that the Brennan's family name is synonymous for (Commander's Palace, Dickie Brannan's Steakhouse, Palace Café, Mr. B's Bistro etc). To my surprise and disappointment, it was everything BUT... The jazz trio was nestled near the front door as usual. There was a little wait for a table, as expected for Sunday brunch. After retrieving cocktails from the bar, we were seated within ten minutes. The server was great; unfortunately, I don't recall her name nor do I have the receipt. Surveying the patrons with dismay, my view was bombarded with buttocks peeping through cutoff jean shorts, several sights of fuzzy slipper like footwear, offensive T-shirt graffiti as well as a slew of other normally deemed inappropriate attire for this establishment. The food items were haphazardly replenished. Additionally, the buffoonery at the omelet station was borderline verbally abusive. The uncouth solicitation/harassment for tips was truly annoying. I really can't find any reason to not give Owen Brennan's five stars. Between the outstanding food - serious recommendation for the Beef Carpaccio appetizer. There wasn't a single complaint among the 12 of us - I had the Redfish en Papillote which is a fish poached in parchment paper with a lemon butter dip. Totally outstanding. Check the menu before you go - there's only two steaks offered but those who ordered them commented that they were perfectly cooked. Extra kudos for including a 17 year old Balvenie at only $28 a glass. A very fair price for an outstanding after-dinner single malt. read more

Had a business lunch for a party of 13. The small room was set for 10. The server made a big fuss about the reservation only being for 10. Then told us (very rudely) where we could put chairs so as it to block her path. The food was decent but her snarky responses and attitude were VERY offputting. Had Sunday Brunch with the girls. This was my first visit here and first things first.... come early!!! This place gets super crowded and the wait time can be an hour plus. At least they are understanding and have complimentary beignets and water while you wait. Once you finally are called by the hosted and are seated at your table, you are immediately dancing. The best thing was our appetizer. Fried green tomatoes were Really Good. The dinner portions were a large size and looked beautiful. I had salmon and crawfish risotto. The salmon was cooked perfectly to my request. The flavors in the risotto were great (and FYI has sausage for non meat eaters). But the overall dish was Way too salty. After a while of eating.. it started to overpower the entire plate. Very disappointing. I could only eat half of the dish or less. Voodoo pasta - not sure if it was memorable or not. By the time I tasted it my palate was on sodium overload so it was difficult to tell. Gumbo- my husband sent it back. Strange tart flavor/aftertaste on the end. Also does not have authentic flour/oil roux base if you are particular about your gumbo. Food was good, as always, but the waitress was extremely painful to deal with. At one point one of my colleagues had to ask if we were the customer or if she was, as her attitude made it clear "she was in charge" (not to mention she let everyone know her personal ideology beliefs with her mask). Two of my colleagues left after their food arrived as they'd had enough. How about just have all of your staff wear the same mask and keep it professional. Painfully slow on getting our drinks and we could see her mumbling to staff/manager at the bar about our group.
