Limelight transported me to a calming and cool oasis in the midst of the blistering summer of Memphis. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner in its sun room with a neutral natural palette that I once indulged myself at the Rose Tavern in Canandaigua in Upstate New York. That nostalgic feeling of being in a beautiful tavern is pure delight. Absolutely beautiful restaurant, truly deserves limelight recognition in Germantown. Our darling Annalise server was extremely friendly. We loved the presentation of our dinner, but the octopus was a bit soft for our taste. I've had plenty of octopus in other cities and understand the dish is typically more expensive, but a small single mediocre tentacle is quite pricey for $28. I personally prefer a crispy and firmer chew for octopus. The scallops and shishito peppers were a delightful pairing. Valet parking shouldn't be forced upon the customer though? I felt bad that I don't carry cash to tip the valet, and valet is mandatory unless you want to park on the side streets and walk over. Do carry any cash! I wish that a portion of the parking lot was open for self parking though as those boys don't need to help out every guest who don't need valet and subjecting them to wait around for the boys to grab cars that we're perfectly capable of doing ourselves. read more

We stumbled upon this place for a drink, and we were so beyond satisfied with everything this resturant had to offer! It is a small restaurant and has valet parking. When we pulled into the lot, we asked the valet person if there was room inside, and we said there was space to sit at the bar. This was a beautiful restaurant! The decorations, plates, bar, everything has clean and very chic. This was also a nicer dressed restaurant, so this is totally made for an upscale date night or classy girls night out. We didn't get any food because we had just come from dinner, but we wished we ate here. Lots of variety of options and really well priced. For drinks, I got the chocolate martini, my dad got the spiked almond latte, and my brother got patio weather. All of these were a 10/10 in taste and presentation. Probably one of the best chocolate martinis I've ever had. Service was phenomenal and ambiance was on point. I can't wait to come back when I'm in town. read more

Our experience at Limelight was great. The food and service were top notch, with decent drinks too. My favorite dishes were the pork belly skewers, the gnocchi, and the cauliflower. My girlfriend loved the apple tart and her chicken, but found the gnocchi too salty. The skewers are a must-try. The cocktail menu includes some creative cocktails, though they mostly erred on the side of sweet and fruity. The by-the-glass wine selection was larger than some other local spots. The restaurant fosters a warm atmosphere despite being rather tightly packed. I never felt it was too crowded in there, though the parking lot certainly was- I recommend valet. So many things about this dining experience was a fail. Valet: Waited in the rain for valet. The lot is so small we parked our own car (no real need for a valet). Gave them our keys anyways since they were standing there. Ended up just waiting for our keys in the rain as no one was attending it when we returned after the meal. Totally useless. Server: Server had an attitude from the start. She had a cold, unfriendly, unwelcoming demeanor (Sarah did not come by even once to check on how we were doing mid meal. No words, just an angry look each time she we saw her - completely unacceptable at this price point!). We arrived early so despite it being Mother's Day the place was quite empty. No crowds, no excuse for such bad service. This is the main reason for this bad review. Portions: Small. The $28 octopus appetizer is the smallest portion size on record I've ever been served anywhere on North America, Europe or Asia. Pricing: The fine dining experience in lacking in too many areas to justify this price point. You're essentially paying a premium for mood lighting, a white table cloth in a cramped space, and an attitude of trying hard without actually hitting any of the marks. Would not dine here ever again. So disappointed. Poor choice for Mother's Day or any special occasion. read more

We dined at Limelight on Friday night. After spending $120 (including tip) we left hungry and actually considered stopping to pick up a pizza on the way home. I am not a big eater, though my husband is. The portions are TINY and expensive! We had a reservation for Friday night. After checking our car with the complimentary valet, we entered the restaurant thru a dark, little, unimpressive foyer, where we waited for the hostess. The dining room is attractive and dimly lit, but a reservation got us a little table in a corner. Our server was very slow to arrive. After she asked if she could tell us about the menu, she proceeded to describe every item on the menu. We ordered the crispy chick peas ( the best thing I ate), the minuscule $9 bread and butter tasting, onion dip and roasted octopus for starters. The octopus that our server had praised at length, still managed to be really chewy in parts and was literally nothing special. For the entrees, my husband ordered the Gnocchi with Duck Confit, while I opted for the Spinach Fettuccine. My husband's was a little bowl of shredded meat with the tiniest little gnocchi we had ever seen. He said it tasted ok. My fettuccine looked so appetizing, but it had virtually no taste, and I sent it back. The fettuccine itself was fresh and could have been the star of a delicious dish. Ok to start it's got valet parking only and has a very small lot. The attendants are very nice. Ambiance was awesome. Darker lighting. White tablecloth. Fun looking bar if you are a party of two. A communal table down the middle which would be fun with a group of friends. Service was amazing but we had Litzy. She was lovely and good at suggestions and bringing cocktails and food quickly. Food. We had the window the bread service with butter tasting. This is so so. Not amazing. The butter at oxford grillhouse is much better and it's free. The spinach pasta was very good. The Brussels were very good and the pork belly skewers were very good. All are small servings. Cocktails and wine. Wine menu is rather light and average. Nothing to brag about here. Cocktails we had the cosmo which was good and the chocolate bliss martini was was great. So service and ambiance great and food good. Again food is not amazing but not terrible either. Would go back for the ambiance alone. We are not from Memphis and do not find most Memphis restaurants anything to write about. So you have to take what you can get. read more

I consider customer service an important part to the dining experience and it has to touch as soon as you walk in, Limelight checked it off the list. We were greeted and seated promptly. We found out it was a special day for wine so we had some sparking rose and a cocktail from the menu. Paired with the cocktails, we tried some Caesar salads and oysters. The service was impeccable and I was super impressed with the note our "table friend" Victor left us at the completion of our dining. I am so glad that Limelight has opened in Germantown. I've been here a half dozen times or so, and it's fast becoming one of our favorite places to have a excellently crafted cocktail and a bite to eat. Germantown is lacking in "good (I mean it actually tastes good) higher end" restaurants in my opinion. We have been to the all of the others, and we always seem to leave unimpressed. I won't mention them by name, but their initials are Southern Social, Moondance, and Stoney River. I am not sure if I will ever go back to any of them now that Limelight is here. If you plan on dining here, make a reservation! They have limited seating available in the dining room and stay pretty full from what I can tell. They do have a community table that you can just pull up to, and the bar has a few first come seats as well. This has been our go to for the last few visits. Don't count on this if you really want to eat here though. We were recently turned away at the door and told to try back again in an hour. The food and cocktail menu change pretty frequently and I don't think I have actually seen the exact same menu on any of my visits. They do seem to have some staple items that have been there since my first visit though. My favorite food items are the Charcuterie, Waygu Steak, and the Halibut. The chicken skins for appetizers are pretty tasty, as are the pork belly and swordfish skewers. The cooking techniques as well as the food presentation is somewhat inconsistent, but that may be by design. My wife really likes the Gnocchi and the scallops, I will agree with her. Stay away from the butter tasting though, not good. Drinks are superb! You will enjoy anything you get, I assure you. I've had some drinks I would be sure that I would not like, but ended up really digging them. Who would have thought that banana in a bourbon drink would be good. Go figure. read more

We wanted to like it and had been here once before on a weeknight and really enjoyed the experience, because we had it almost to ourselves and just shared small bites--so we did not realize it really isn't the place to go to if you actually want dinner and are hungry. We also live in and love Germantown and WANT to patronize local businesses to help the area flourish. First, the good, our server--he was nice and attentive and really great. The food was also delicious but was ridiculously minuscule portion-wise for the prices. We ordered 4 appetizers and 4 entrees, and all left hungry, which was weird, because we were all worried we had ordered way too much food. I had the Halibut as my entree. It was $48 and was literally a small piece of fish in a little broth with 4 fava beans a diced new potato. I am not exaggerating on the amount of beans and potato--they were more a garnish than anything else. The fish was delicious, but I would not have chosen that dish had I known that was what the price tag was going to get me. It was disappointing. The restaurant also, for some strange reason, sat everyone on top of each other in this almost porch, sunroom area that was super cramped and uncomfortable. We were privy to each others conversations without trying. The rest of the restaurant was not crowded so I was perplexed as to why we were so packed into that one room. We spent over $300 with tip. Maybe I am aiming too high, but I feel like for that amount of money, I should not be eating granola at home after our upscale, neighborhood restaurant experience broke the bank and left us hungry. read more

And we asked to be relocated to another table because the window was drafty but were denied because there were other reservations. I am sorry but that is a lame excuse. We were at a 4 top and the whole room was empty. How hard would it have been to move 2 tables over away from the window? This reeks of laziness to me. As someone who has worked in fine dining and eaten at several fine dining restaurants in Memphis, I loved this experience! The service was incredible and Carlos absolutely exceeded our expectations. The food was fantastic, especially the butter tasting and the pork belly. The desserts were fantastic as well! We were given free champagne AND a chocolate cheesecake for my birthday. I've never been anywhere that offered both! I had the pear pressure cocktail as well and it's easily the best one I've ever had, coming from someone who doesn't like alcohol. Everything was perfect. For our entrees, my husband and I ordered the 6-oz flat iron wagyu with barnaise sauce. The steak was made to perfection, and the broccolini was tender-crisp and flavorful. Food was overpriced and small portions. Not much of a selection and chef could not or would not make something off the menu. I asked for spaghetti carbonara and it was like deer in headlights. Said he didn't have "ingredients ". This is such a simple dish. Also they have the highest corkage fee of 25 dollars anywhere in the Midsouth. Most other places charge between 10 or 15 dollars. Service was mediocre at best. Server was only there 2 weeks and kept hovering over us until we decided on what we would order. Awful customer service. Went here with a group of friends just for drinks and a dessert. The waitress seemed annoyed that we were not ordering entrees. She also confiscated my ID to take to a manager because she suspected it of being fake. I provided credit cards and other forms of ID to show it was real and after embarrassing me in front of the restaurant for several minutes, they finally gave my ID back with no apology for the mistake.
