Owen Cyclery is a great bike shop in Hixson. I purchased TWO bikes from them so far. I gladly refer anyone I know looking for a bike or service to Erik and the team at Owen Cyclery. Owen is not the closest bike shop to me. I drive further just to use Owen Cyclery as they are the best shop in town. This local gem provides excellent service. Erik and the team ensured we found the right bikes that fit our needs. Very patient and willing to answer questions and adjust the bikes for the best possible fit and enjoyment while we had a chance to test-ride them around the shop. I showed up to Owen's with no notice needing help with a bike modification for the para national championship race the next day. Not only did they take the time do make sure we could find a solution that would work but gave me recommendations of how to make it even better when I got home. They could have easily turned me a away, they where busy and I had no appointment but they had such a love for cycling they wanted to see me be able to race. I took my mountain bike in to get a stuck pedal replaced. To my surprise, they did not allow me to drop my bike off, but fixed it on the spot and didn't charge me a penny. The bike wasn't purchased there and neither was the replacement pedal. Thank you! I will be back for service on my bike in the future. read more

Returning to the world of cycling as a weekend warrior after an eleven-year hiatus, I needed a bike shop that was close to my residence, knowledgeable, large enough to have a decent inventory, and friendly enough to encourage a 'small shop' atmosphere. I found all those and more, at Owen's. They maintain an inventory that ranges from solid, high-quality beginner bikes, to upper echelon, high-dollar bikes for the ultra-serious cyclist. No one rolled their eyes when I wheeled my 15-year old tricked out Trek in the door, or even on a later visit when I "carried" my beginner trail bike back to the repair counter. The staff has experience in all phases of riding, from formal, competitive events, to casual family situations. You'll find all the 'good' names in cycling inside their door: Trek, Cannondale, Eastern, Redline, Mirraco Gary Fisher, as well as 'most any accessory you need to get started in the sport, or maintain your equipment. (Except a fresh, 20-year old pair of legs!) Maintenance-wise, they can handle anything from a full re-build with custom wheels, to a tune-up for a grandchild's old ten speed, and they'll do it professionally, with good humor at 'no extra charge'. Owen has been in business for over 40 years, and have supported many good causes. Over the years, the shop has worn many hats and earned exemplary titles based on selfless acts of cycling service. When the 911 Firefighters rode through Chattanooga, the shop guys became Monks of Maintenance; when races needed support they became Hydration Heroes; and daily, in every interaction, their eyes are open for opportunities to meet the needs of their community. Owen Cyclery is the absolute best bike shop in the Tri-State area. Chattanooga has several bike shops to choose from and there are other top-notch and reputable shops in town, but Owen Cyclery has been my go-to for 25 years now. Here are some of the many reasons why I like the shop, culture and employees. 1) Culture - One of the owners is the guy who sweeps the parking lot. No Joke, I have seen this several times. 2) Honorable and there to help the customer make the best purchase for their needs. These guys are more likely to down-sell than up-sell. It's kind of crazy, if you plan on riding the riverwalk or an occasional dirt path, and your eye-balling a 4+ inch travel full-suspension bike, they're going to point you in the right direction and talk you out of it. 3) They special order you what you request or need, not push on you only in-stock items. 4) This place is not a merry-go-round of employees. These guys are in it because they love what they do. I would be curious of the average longevity of an Owen Cyclery employee but I'd bet it is greater than 15 years. Seriously, if you shop here and your expectations are not met, it is far more likely the issue lies with YOU. read more

Update....Eric did refund my money...as he said he would. I never thought when I posted the first review I would hear from this company. I was venting of course because I thought they didn't care. Turns out they do! I was blown away when the refund was offered. I accepted his gracious offer and Eric was very pleasant to talk to.
