This is a lovey place! Very cute inside with outdoor seating as well. It is a little tight on the inside as far as seating goes, but luckily it wasn't super busy when I went! They offered a beautiful variety of pastries and baked goods- it was hard to make up my mind! I enjoyed the chocolate torte, and the toast was excellent. Nothing beats fresh bread! I didn't try the coffee this time, but if I go back I will definitely try a latte. Their coffee menu was extensive and had some unique options as well as the option to ice almost any of the standard hot drinks. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area! What an incredibly charming establishment! I came here for a cup of coffee to meet up with an old friend and it was the perfect environment for that! Extremely comfy seating and books to enjoy while you wait. Unfortunately the seating was limited which wasn't a problem for an afternoon weekday coffee but I'd imagine it's a take-out favorable situation in the busy hours of the weekend. Incredible disappointment. Read great reviews about this spot's pastry which ARE true. Pastry was delicious a little high priced but very tasty. The coffee however is another story all together. BURNT, not a full portion and served about 40 or 50 degrees too hot, maybe more. After a few minutes of pouring into another cup to cool it off I still burned my tongue with a tiny sip This is not my first time drinking coffee btw. At $4.00 a cup this is outrageous. Because of the horrible burnt way too hot coffee that was incredibly overpriced and the short pour and the attitude I'd give a 0 if I could. I make a special trip to Owl Bakery at least once, sometimes twice a week to JUST get a loaf of their incredible, irresistible, insatiable, mouth watering Vegan Raisin Flax Bread. It is by far the best loaf of bread on planet earth! I might have not tried every type of bread, from every different bakery on planet earth, but I can say, pretty confidently, that Owl's bread stack's up with the best of the best. Step inside to find the best pastries I've had anywhere in the U.S. Great flaky crust, wonderful fresh fruit toppings and fillings, and always an interesting twist with herbs and other flavors added in. Wonderful bakery. Croissants are wonderful flakey buttery goodness on their own. But also with beautiful fillings. One could get the impression that there are too many ingredients, but they make a harmonious, uncontrived whole. Candied hazelnut cardamom coffee was amazing. Ditto streusel with goat cheese, figs, and caramelized onions. Sesame toast with browned butter, local honey, and avocado mmm... Can't wait to try the ciabatta we got for our picnic! Tiny. There is some seating out back, but very little parking. These things would be completely forgivable if the food and staff were outstanding, but NEITHER were. I understand that the coffee is supposed to be 'fancy', but it just tasted bad to me. My husband said it tasted like morning 7-Eleven coffee at 7pm. My quiche was good. Not great. My son's pastry was very good. Pretentiousness is the best word I have for the staff. And the prices are outrageous. It doesn't open till 8am, and no croissants till 10:30? What a wonderful place!!! The best chocolate croissant I've ever had, just the right amount of chocolate while the croissant was light and airy and didn't make a terrible mess while eating it. We had to return for a second visit and the Maple cream cheese danish with crystallized herbs was just as fantastic as the croissant. My husband loved his selections also. We finally made it here after complaining to a friend about not finding great baked goodies (pastries) in the area. She pointed us to OWL and we were delighted to find good coffee and amazing pastries so close to home. The babka is outstanding, so buttery and chocolaty. We also tried a danish--great croissant dough but the custard filling was a little under sweet for my taste. You get the picture, I love sweet for breakfast. OWL Bakery is a gem of a cafe and has quickly become my favorite spot for breakfast and lunch in Asheville. This place cares about the quality of their ingredients and carefully selects and crafts simple yet delicious menu items. Having recently moved from the SF Bay Area, I find the prices extremely fair given the superb quality of their ingredients. My favorite menu item is the quiche, which has a delightfully custard-like texture and the tastiest of buttery crusts. I also enjoy their tartines, soft-boiled farm eggs, and dressed greens. I've tried a few of their pastries, including the apple turnovers and the pain au chocolat, and found them to be light and perfectly flaky with just the right touch of sweetness. You can taste love, dedication to detail, and patience baked into all of these items. I've also been very pleased with their coffee, espresso drinks, and tea selection. A few reviewers have commented that it takes a while to get your drinks - from my experience, the baristas take their time to properly prepare each drink and they are worth the wait. If you order hot tea, you can expect the barista to steep it the appropriate amount of time before bringing it to your table. I appreciate this detail. This is not a cafe tempted by the fast pace of life, but rather a spot that invites you to sit, relax, and savor the moment. If you value local, seasonal eating and slowing down to enjoy it, this is the place for you! Our small children loved the chocolate croissant and chocolate chip cookie, and we had a coffee walnut strudel with an Italian macchiato. The outdoor space out back is lovely for sitting or for the kids to have some space. The indoor space is smallish but the most like an Italian espresso bar that I have seen in the US.
