This is a great new restaurant in Georgetown! I enjoyed the whole experience from the service to selecting your own steak knife to seeing the different cuts of meats. I started off ordering a lemon lavender mint tea that was actually very good for tea that I wasn't expecting much out of. My favorite bites were the shrimp cocktail, beef tartare, hot dogs, scallop with green bean sauce, and the peach bacon side with apricot vinaigrette. The carrot cake was also delicious and so adorable with the eyes! I also really enjoyed the crust on the steak and the different sauces. The mashed potato side was my least favorite as it tasted like dry bland paste to me... but overall everything was wonderful especially with our server!

I've been seeing hype for Ox & Olive for a couple of weeks, and I kind of wanted to go. Gonna admit it up front: I was prepared for a tourist-trap in disguise, an overhyped restaurant with menu prices to match its hype, served with a big scoop of disappointment. I couldn't have been more wrong -- dinner here ranks among the best meals I've ever had. We had a reservation for 6:30 for my birthday, and got seated right away. We got an appetizer of their broiled oysters. I maintain that cooked oysters are an abomination before Poseidon, but these were actually very tasty. They were probably the weakest part of the meal, as I didn't think there was enough oyster to them, but ... again, I think the only proper way to serve an oyster is raw with a tiny dab of mignonette, if you're a savage. They've got a wide martini menu, and I ordered a martinez. I've somehow never tried this before. My first sip of it, I was still in "this is a martini" mode and didn't like it, but once I clicked out of that and tasted what I was actually having -- it was good! For dinner, I ordered a A5 Sunflower Butterfly 4oz and a 32oz dry aged Japanese ribeye. DO NOT JUDGE ME. Both came out perfectly well cooked. I thought the A5 was a touch oversalted, but I've also threatened to just bite a cow. The meat was amazing, and so flavourful. It's amazingly tender -- you can literally cut it with a spoon. Personally, I find it way too rich to eat but a small piece of it, which is why the 4 oz. That dry aged steak was just fantastic, and also tender. I've had steak so fresh you could still hear the cow mooing, but this aged stuff just ... an entirely different flavour, and so great. I can't describe it, just try it. For sides, I got the mashed potatoes -- loaded -- and a pile of black truffles on the steak. The mashed potatoes... oh my god. My wife and I are now in a polyamorous triad with them. The truffles -- unfortunately -- didn't add much to the steak, but I dumped them into the potatoes like a heathen and arrived in heaven faster than the cholesterol dump could send me. We finished with the carrotcake, and a piece of tallow caramel. Both were amazing. I didn't care for the green parts of the carrotcake shell, as they tasted a little vegetable-y to me, but everything else was good. Next time, I'll try the bananana sundae. I can never remember how many nas. A few areas of concern for those considering going: It's Georgetown, the area famous for having no parking, no metro, and somehow always being crowded (I think it's because people can't figure out how to leave). Be prepared for that. The restaurant is /expensive/. I don't think it was overpriced, but I can definitely see where it's going to exceed a budget quickly. This is a very-special-occasion restaurant, not a Friday date night. Seriously, save this place for milestones. The menu prices things a la carte, and the meat is sold per pound... Beware of that -- your bill is going to rack up. I was truly disappointed in only one thing: their wine menu has like 5 wines on it, and by the glass only. It's an incredibly upscale steak restaurant, and *this* is your wine list? I thought they were *stupidly* overpriced. Average glass of wine is $25-30. I like a good glass of red with a steak, but I couldn't stomach the idea of $3 sips of wine.

I've been waiting to write this review. I didn't know how to approach it as there were good and bad moments. Let's start with the location that is a little tricky. The front door is down an alley with a small sign mounted on the wall. If you're not careful you miss it. Walking in and greeted immediately with a warm smile was nice. The tables are set up a little close where makes private conversations hard to have. The lighting is dim with candles with gives it a romantic vibe. Once seated the waiter comes with a complementary drink but makes sure to ask if you are okay with alcohol before pouring. I over heard the table next to say they were not drinking and the waiter brought them a mocktail. I started with the grilled oysters which were good. Lots of flavor and cooked just right. After that things started going down hill. I decided to go with the fillet and I ordered it medium rare. When it came to the table and I cut into it, it was well done. I broth this to my waiters attention to which he apologize for and took it back. The second steak that came out was now rare. I was tempted to send it back again but decided to just take it as is. I also ordered the loaded whipped potatoes. I was disappointed when I received just regular whipped potatoes. But also the whipped potatoes were very watery. I asked the waiter to exchange them with fries. The fries did take a while to come out but they were fresh and hot out the fryer. I was disappointed overall with my experience. The customer service was very nice but the food quality didn't match the prices.

Wow! How do you get a customer to change their 5 star rating to 3 stars? Truth is... it's no fault to their own. Ox & Olive was the new kid on the block until their competitor opened a few weeks ago and boom, comparison kills! I've come to Ox & Olive a hand full of times, soft opening, bar seating and main dining. I've literally done the full tour. Each time was service was warm, ambiance was cute, and the experience felt like the "It" spot DC loves to hype. The problem is Ox is great but there is nothing on the menu that says, I need this again. Each time was great but the food is just okay compared to the new kid on the block. Definitely recommend this place for date night! Come see it! Come indulge but unless they do something with the menu I'm not sure this place will last with such a strong competition down the street.

Exceptional and memorable!!!!! From the moment we entered, until we walked out with our belly's full the service was above and beyond. In an ambiance that makes those intimate moments better. Our server/nutritionist coordinator/food specialist (DJ), and yes all those titles because that's how he made the experience feel. He was exceptional with recommendations and experience on what we should taste. First, Margaritas and mocktails were savory and delicious. The mixologist did his thang on the drinks. We then continue to the starter Mini hotdogs, broiled oysters, and wedged salad), all nothing but exceptional start of explosions of flavor and delight taste. Follow straight to the head liner, a tender and delicious decadent steak that melts in your mouth paired with creamy mashed potatoes and mushrooms. Lastly ended the night with a savory, salty and sweet treat of banana, caramel ice cream. This was a time I could definitely experience again!!!

Service was the highlight of our visit to Ox & Olive. Unfortunately the rest fell really flat. To start, they sat us outside. I went back and checked our reservations and there wasn't any note or indication that we were booking it to sit outside - it's 96 degrees. None the less, we still were so excited and tried to be optimistic about it! Their outside patio was blocked in and didn't have any air flow or fans which made the heat almost unbearable - both of us were dripping in sweat throughout a very expensive meal. My recommendation is either fix the patio to have stronger air flow or don't let people reserve the patio unless the season/weather makes sense. Our server was incredible - he was so kind and really welcoming throughout the whole meal. He was the highlight. In terms of the food, everything felt really gimmicky which would have been ok if the food was A+. We got the mini hotdogs, beef tartare eclair, wedge salad, a specialty steak - Hereford (from their daily selection tray), and their onion rings. I'll do a breakdown of my thoughts below: - hot dogs: these needed some serious acid. Overall they lacked flavor and had a poor ratio of bread to meat. - beef tartare: this was one of our favorite dishes of the night. Well balanced with the fat and acid. - steak: unfortunately it was overcooked to medium when we ordered it medium rare which was a massive bummer for it being a steakhouse. It also lacked salt which feels like a basic necessity when it comes to cooking beef. - wedge: an overall good wedge. I really liked the green goddess dressing and little bits of bacon and herbs throughout - onion rings: well done, loved the sauce with it! Overall, for almost $400 I expected so much more. I really hope they take the feedback and negative reviews and improve over the next few months. Had high hopes based on these folks other restaurants so wishing them the best as they work the kinks out.

It's hard to believe this is the same space that once housed Reverie. Ox & Olive has completely reinvented it, creating a moody, elegant dining room that feels both inviting and sophisticated. The dark, dramatic design gives the restaurant a distinct personality without feeling overdone. The kitchen is firing on all cylinders. Given Ryan Ratino's track record, expectations were high, but the meal still managed to exceed them. The standout for me was the ribeye--beautifully cooked and packed with flavor. It's also worth noting that Ox & Olive is currently the only spot in the area serving Bear Creek Farms beef from Tennessee, and the quality absolutely shows. Excellent cocktails, attentive service, and a stylish atmosphere tied everything together. Ox & Olive feels destined to be a destination restaurant.

The food and service were both 10/10! Definitely a great spot for high quality steak and our server explained what each cut of meat was. The carrot cake was so cute and also good (it's in a hard shell)

How do I love Ox & Olive, let me count the ways..LOL! First, let me thank my very good foodie friend who discovered this new steakhouse and booked our date. Gotta love a gal that has initiative! :) Ox & Olive is a true "steak lovers/enthusiasts" dream. The cuts shown are for the serious meat eaters. On a Monday, I was surprised to see the amount of meat that was being thrown around...LOL. The thickest cuts I've ever seen in one place. We ate more like steak novice :). For appetizers, we had the yellowtail tartare, charbroiled oysters and the beef brisket mini hotdogs. I absolutely loved all three however, she thought the oysters were a tad salty.. not me, give me the salt..lol! I had the 12oz striploin sliced and she had the Black Bass for entrees. Without being a prisoner of the moment, the flavor coming off of that steak had me giddy from the first bite to the last. Perfectly charred on the outside, and buttery soft on the inside....Just amazing! Her Black Bass was delicious and I know a good piece of fish and this was it! Ox & Olive is a quaint restaurant with a trendy design. The furry throws on the backs of the chairs were definitely picture worthy but how do you clean them?? hmmm.. When I say quaint, I mean small. You absolutley have to make reservations or you'll be wasting your time. I'd say, Ox & Olive can hold 50 patrons and another 8 at the bar. They do have patio seating as well that may hold an additional 20. Service was exceptional. We were greeted with complimentary infused lemon drop martinis that were so good, she ordered one for her cocktail of the evening. I did take issue with the included 20% tip and eventhough I was treated this particular dinner, I believe high-end steakhouses in Georgetown should trust their patrons to do the right thing. I'm jus saying!!!

First, you will probably go on a mini field trip trying to find this place. I think I spun the block about five times looking for it! Ox & Olive is hidden on a side street, although there are markings with their name. With a 5:30p reservation, we were promptly seated. Inside is a bit cozy. There's an outdoor patio as well. Loved the open-kitchen concept. As I was taking pictures, the sous chefs were smiling for the pics! One even gave me a thumbs up :-) On to the food - we tried a few things: Mini Brisket Hot Dogs, Yellowtail Tartare, Broiled Oysters, Black Bass, Sirloin Steak & Onion Rings. So, don't shoot me, but my favorite dish was the hot dogs! They were so cute being mini-sized, and it was packed with flavor -- the pickled onions, mustard and relish -- chef's kiss. The bread was buttery and soft. Loved it. The Yellowtail Tartare was good. Nothing to write home about, but good nonetheless. The Broiled Oysters were a bit too salty for me, so I told him he could eat the rest after I tried one. The Black Bass was tasty. I mentioned that the jus reminded me of a lobster bisque, and that's when he reminded me that the sauce was just that --a "lobster emulsion." He liked it so much so that he kept dipping his sirloin in it. Take note, Chefs! My only gripe about the food selection is the minimal side dish options - vegetables, specifically. Yes, one can choose from mushrooms or "creamed" greens, but it would be nice to simply have a green veggie without the "cream." Think asparagus, broccoli, etc. Overall, it was a great experience. Richard, our waiter, was kind and hospitable. The complimentary lemon drop was amazing...so much so, I ordered another. Lastly, be aware that 20% gratuity is automatically added. Big sigh for Georgetown. Anyway, try for yourself. Cheers!

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Was so hyped to try this place after seeing it all over social media--reservations are hard to get so my friend and I picked Monday night and opted for bar seating. The restaurant is small, inside felt crammed, but I guess the ambiance gives off an intimate upscale vibe. However, the music is TOO LOUD, we had trouble hearing each other and I couldn't hear the bartender half the time--this was frustrating. For a high end steakhouse, I would have expected more from the management staff--they all seemed unfriendly and never came around to follow up with guests on their dining experience (at least not us!). But the food runners were friendly and cheerful. Food menu is not that extensive. Their pride and joy is the high quality "Beef with Tail to Tell" steaks so we got the Kuroge (Montana) 1.5lb for $148.50. It was huge, definitely shareable for two--meat was tender but the steak LACKED FLAVOR, very bland, and we requested for the steak to be cooked medium but it came out medium RARE. I had to ask for salt to add to the steak. The Whipped Potatoes texture was comparable to a toothpaste sticky texture, not soft and was way too overloaded with cheese. The Maitake Mushroom was good, I liked the peppercorn madeira sauce. The Carrot Cake ($29) was a MAJOR LETDOWN--says it serves 2 but the portion is small!!! The carrot cake presentation itself is cute, designed in a shape of a carrot, but the cake inside is thin, layered outside with sugar coating (or candy melt) which throws off the taste, and there were dark brown sections that were so bitter it was not enjoyable whatsoever. This dessert was a bait! Cocktails were decent. Dirty Martini is good if you like strong drinks, French Martini if you like a more sweet or juice taste, and Pornstar Martini if you like champagne. The martinis ranges from $18-24 a drink. Bartender Jeff was super busy making drinks all night, seemed like he was the only one. Note: the final bill adds an automatic 20% Service Fee, which we were not informed ahead when making reservations, when ordering or written on the menu. Overall, overpriced and underwhelming dining experience. Tip: There's no valet here so recommend parking in the Georgetown Park Parking which is a block away. For roughly 3 hours, parking was $26.

Ryan Ratino's newest Georgetown hotspot looks the part, tucked down an alleyway with all the makings of an exclusive, buzzy steakhouse destination. Unfortunately, the experience never quite lives up to the hype, or the $$$$ price tag. To be fair, the steak itself was very good. But beyond that, almost every dish felt surprisingly average for a restaurant aiming this high. The scallop landed with little excitement, the wedge salad was forgettable, and while the carrot cake is undeniably photogenic, it tasted more Instagram-ready than memorable. The beef tartare was one of the stronger dishes of the night, but not enough to elevate the overall meal. And perhaps most puzzling of all, a steakhouse without a ribeye on the menu feels borderline sacrilegious since that is what most steak lovers gravitate to. The unique touches are being able to select your sirloin from one of a few farms on a demo tray, and getting to choose your weapon (steak knife). Service did not feel refined. My waiter might as well been working at Cheesecake Factory. Pet peeve questions like "are you still working" need to be removed from staff vocab at high end restaurants. Auctioning off plates "who had the short rib" is weird. In a city filled with strong steakhouse competition, this one just doesn't make me want to run back. 4 stars if value wasn't a factor. 3 stars when factoring in that you are going to spend $250 pp

The service was spectacular. Our water never dipped below halfway and the staff was so nice across the board. The welcome cocktail was so good that my friend and I decided to order it. We never felt rushed. We had our choice of indoor and patio seating. We chose outdoor. At 84 degrees, the pergola blocked the breeze so I would choose indoor next time. The steak tartare appetizer was solid. A unique presentation with what I believe was a pumpernickel crust. We decided to order the wagyu flank steak that was cooked perfectly to medium. The standout was the loaded whipped potatoes with foam cheese. Delicious! Definitely will be back with my husband.

Highly recommend. It made me curious about what else they could offer. I noticed almost everyone was doing the $48 four-course tasting experience, so I decided to give it a try. Although I'm not a big fan of deep-fried food, I actually really liked the coconut shrimp tempura. Among the four courses, the yellowtail "roll" was the most special. It's not really a roll in the traditional sense -- crispy on the outside, with the yellowtail wrapped around it in a very creative presentation. The portion of the four- courses was surprisingly generous; I ended up taking most of it home. Since I Left You is an Old Fashioned variation with miso, blackberry, cardamom and cacao. The staff was so nice they slid our time slot by 15 mins so we could keep to the 90min total duration. We were quickly taken to our bay and was provided instructions on logging in to the system and selecting the games etc. the games were sooo fun! It really showed our competitive spirit! There were lines on the ground denoting your level of expertise so it's customizable to your skill level. We order a few drinks which were delivered quickly and tasted fantastic! The decor and vibe was so awesome!! There was so much to see and surprises at every turn. No spoilers but check it out! Of course we will be back!!

I know reservations are probably highly recommended, but we were fortunate to walk in at just the right moment and snag a seat. The seating is cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed evening. The atmosphere is just my style, an elegant, dark, grown and sexy vibe that really sets the mood. The decor is striking, with thoughtful touches that create an inviting space to unwind. While it leans a bit on the pricier side, the exceptional service more than justifies the cost. Jordan and the team were incredibly knowledgeable about both the drinks and food menu, offering suggestions that perfectly matched our tastes. We tried two standout drinks that I can't recommend enough: the Attractive Nuisance and El Tiburon, (which is an Old Fashioned made with gin). The bartenders here clearly know what they're doing, each drink was crafted with care and precision. The good music in the background added to the overall ambiance, making it a delightful spot to spend an evening.

Jane Jane offers the perfect intro to DC, but if it's your first time, know that they do not take…read morereservations. That means, come early to avoid the crowd. For context, my last visit to DC in my teens, I was looking to view DC, in a new light, as an adult. Entering Jane Jane somehow felt like home. The intimate, inclusive, dimly lit bar, decorated to feel both modern and vintage reminded me of my favorite spot in Houston, Nobies. While Nobies offers great food, Jane Jane kills it with their cocktails...and the complimentary bowl of cheese its...perfect bar food I guess? Their legend's menu is just that. Although I came in anticipating ordering one drink, that one turned into two after trying the "A La Playa". I'm not sure I'd sip it on the beach, but the sweet, slightly Smokey, fruity concoctions now lives on my list of favorites drinks. It has the perfect balance of flavors. While a $17 cocktail is not an everyday outing (for me atleast), their drinks are strong, and legends worth trying. The shenanigans on 14th are just a welcome bonus.

There was a folded standing menu on the bar and the first item there said the frozen pina colada was a special for the month so I was happy they still had it. What I got wasn't frozen and tasted awful, then I noticed another person at the bar with a frozen drink and looked up the picture on tiktok and saw that my drink was indeed in the wrong cup. So I asked the bartender (maybe I forgot to say frozen) if this was a regular pina colada and he said "no you ordered drink name xyz" with mezcal (which is why it tasted bad to me) I said no I didn't, I ordered the pina colada and he proceeded to argue with me with an attitude. I'm like dude the music is so loud in here, just admit you didn't hear me. I know what I ordered. I can't make up a drink name for something I don't know exists because I never looked at the flat menus he handed me. I had to take one star off because that just killed the vibe.
