After a week of moving in, I get a call from someone at Public Storage saying that my unit got…read morebroken into. I begged and begged for more info but she would not give me anything over the phone and that I had to show up to the unit asap. I left early from work to get there. When I got there, the whole place was a total mess. The entire 2nd floor of 20-30 units were all broken into. People's belongings were everywhere on the hallways. The police and the district manager were there but could not do anything because apparently there are no cameras and no security system. The only camera they have is on the 1st floor by the elevator but the district manager would not even confirm that the camera was working. People there, including myself, were very angry and upset because of the fact that our things were stolen and the district manager was basically saying there's nothing they can do about it. Apparently, break-ins at this storage is a common occurrence. These thieves would rent a storage to gain access and then commit a massive break-ins. They target this particular location because there is no one who works here and there are no cameras or any security system. Also, locks are way too easy to break into. On my move-out day, I got stuck on the second floor for 30 minutes because the elevator stopped working. There was a person stock inside the elevator too. They have 2 elevators but the one on the right is never in operation so only the left was being used. The emergency call button does NOT work and we tried calling the Public Storage office for help but only went to voicemail and it was only 7pm. Then, someone called 911 and the firefighters showed up to get us out. Please, if you're reading this RUN AWAY!!!!

I've met drug dealers who are more professional than the folks who run this location (yes…read moreliterally). I've always rented from Extra Space Storage, because they are clean, well-run, professional.... Well not this location! They cater to their 'business clients' who run dozens of strange fly-by-night businesses out of this facility - causing traffic and parking issues at all hours. Speaking of which - these business clients seem to have 24-hour access while us lowly personal tenants lose access after 7PM, yes 7pm - so better access your unit at the crack of dawn OR plan a full day of traffic. Their gates may or may not be functioning properly at any given time. Security is lax and, well, kinda optional here. Homeless vagrants and assorted unsavory folks always gathered on the sidewalk out front make these security flaws particularly critical. The company they contract to maintain their landscaping uses gasoline-powered blowers and trimming equipment which have been ILLEGAL in LA County for a long, long, long time: Just another indicator of the lack of integrity on display here! Yes, they manage to fail on EVERY level, big and small. If you complain, it will fall on deaf ears, and ultimately be met with retaliatory action by the small-minded, provincial, mouth-breathing 'management' at this location. So long Extra Space Storage - signed, a long-time, and now erstwhile, customer. Never again!

Located under the 101 freeway across from the Westfield Fashion Square Mall off of Hazeltine Ave and Valleyheart Dr - you are able to pull into the lot. We came in while they were still out to lunch (around 12:45), but were the first ones in line when back on as they are open Monday thru Saturday 9 AM - 12 PM and again from 1 PM - 5 PM; Sunday 9 AM - 5 PM. I'm almost positive Shawn may have been who helped us (but I'm bad with names on the first go). And though I didn't engage with him directly he made our experience smooth as can be. He's a very social and friendly person and kept my friend Christina and her husband chatting for much longer than we planned to be there. She's a new mom and rarely leaves the house so I think she was excited to engage with someone just as outgoing and personable as she is. Shawn gave us some great options for trucks as the were out of the largest sizes (20 and 26) being the end of/first of the month (everybody is moving) - we ended up with to 15 foot trucks which was actually better. We were able to get my friends Christina and Bernardo loaded up for their next adventures in the Bay Area with their little girl. Thanks Shawn and all the people at the Sherman Oaks U-Haul Dealer! So I waited for over an hour for someone to arrive at the location - then I was given a truck with 4 miles to empty and told to fill it up to a quarter tank. Then, while returning the vehicle, he told me he would check it in and not to take the pictures of the odometer or to take any pictures of the vehicle - needless to say, I ignored him, took all the pictures, and checked the vehicle in myself. Many U-Haul rental places won't allow you to leave your car there but offer parking. Daniel the manager was so kind, the truck was super clean and the gas tank higher than what he expected me to bring it back in. I was a sliver under the three quarter mark when I brought it back and he didn't charge me, very gracious service! I highly recommend them for U-Haul rentals!

It appears there is inadequate security, including a lack of proper camera coverage. A detective contacted me today and indicated that this has become a significant ongoing issue at this location. I have filed both a police report and an insurance claim, but the entire experience has been a nightmare. I strongly advise against storing your belongings here. There are safer, more secure facilities available.
