I've stopped at this truckstop for many many years on our way to our annual family camping trip. We went last week and it was by far the best that it's ever been, they have really stepped it up a notch! We had the best service that I've ever had at any restaurant before, not kidding! Our server's name was Gage and it happened to be his birthday! He was so genuine and kind. A real gem- the truckstop is lucky to have him. We had other family members stop at the truckstop as well, and we met up with them later at the campground, and they were talking about the same server! He really made an impression! The cashier with longer hair was super nice too as well as the cooks. They were so friendly while I was picking out some baked goods to bring camping. The maple cream pie was out of this world. Also, the rolls!!! Yum! We got sandwiches for lunch and the homemade bread was amazing. Thisstop was literally one of the highlights of our whole trip! Can't wait until next year! read more

Went in to sit in and eat but, stood there over 15 minutes for nothing and nothing else was open so we ordered to go. Definitely will never do it again I ordered a Freightliner without onions - only onions came on it. My wife ordered a Hot Roast Beef Sandwich with extra gravy on her sandwich and on the side with two pieces of bread instead of one with french fries and a small salad as her veggies. She got a box with bread cold, a box with about 15 fries and a small handful of meat mostly fat and a half full container of gravy no salad. Definitely gone down hill. We also ordered 4 pieces of pie received 2 which the maple cream pie was amazing so was the Reese's pie. But still 2 short. The last time was almost the same but no separate boxes and the meat was on the cold bread. I explained this to waitress while ordering and hoped it would be different. I was wrong. The waitress couldn't even look up to hear anything we were saying or bother to ask details like how done would you want your burger or white wheat or homemade bread. Erica was her name and hopefully she finds a new career because this is not the one for her. Also that all cost a total of $52.70 and the only thing worth anything was the two out of four pieces of pie we paid for. read more

Used to be a great lunch counter place, no longer the case. I stopped for a quick Saturday lunch by myself and got held up behind multiple families waiting to be seated as though it was a restaurant and not a dinner. Once seated I had to wait for the same families to order. By the time I was able to order it had been almost a half hour. Not what you would expect from a truck stop dinner. Who knows how long the food would have taken, I got fed up and left. I miss the old P and H, can't imagine the truckers are too happy either. read more

The last three times we have stopped here the food has been mediocre at best. The premade sandwiches and baked goods are better than the food coming out of the kitchen. I can't figure that one out. Don't fall over! Yes, a tried and true truck stop. But this place is famous, and for earned reasons. Know for their "breasted"chicken, look it up, I had to. So incredibly flavorful and moist. The portions are meant to be hardy and they sure deliver! The staff is ultra friendly and very accommodating. The fried chicken didn't disappoint. The burgers were thick and flat top grilled. An abundance of sides and options like coleslaw, buttered yeast rolls, Mac salad, great French fries etc. The milk shake should be the standard! It was thick and creamy and delicious. We came here looking for three things you would normally find at a gas station: Beer, ice, and gasoline. It's a big, ramshackle place that looks like it would be good for filming a magic realist horror movie. It was 90 degrees out and despite everything we have learned about places like this as a lesbian couple (one of whom is trans), we went inside hoping to get our beer and ice. We realized then that there isn't really a convenience store here: There are a few coolers with soda, some ice cream and knick-knacks, and the true purpose of this place, a diner with two rooms packed with very old, rough-seeming people. As we walked back and forth looking for the beer and ice, the people working the front of the house stared at us with grim, dead-pan faces, saying nothing. I would not go here for convenience-store fare like beer and ice, because they don't have it. I would not come here for food, because I wouldn't want to eat food these people had prepared or to sit next to the kind of clientele this place gets. I have been here many times and this place is so quick and convenient. The most recent time I went for a fried chicken dinner. I had the Broastier chicken with a side of potatoes, beets, and a homade roll, which was fresh and awesome. This place is open 7 days a week 24 hours and even conveniently has a shower if you need it for only $8.75 ( I needed one when our power went out). The service can be a little rushed, but the food choices are incredible and not your typical diner fare. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner till 10 pm, and being so close to Canada you may want to try some Canadian favorites like Poutine! This place is always clean and cozy, and if you're in the mood for gift shopping, you get get some chachkis to take along. Gas prices are slightly higher than the rest of the area, since it's 15 miles to the next rest stop, so you may want to get a quick gallon or 2 to hold you over until you get to the next town. Lots of trucks and traffic so be extra careful coming in and out. This place is busy all day long!! read more

Love this place for the experience! It is in fact a truck stop that is open and serving food 24 hours a day. The food itself is good. It's essentially diner food (bonus breakfast is served all day). I got the kentworth burger which is massive. The thing that makes this place stand out is their BREAD. They make all their own bread and it's incredible. Also their pie is sooo good. I can't say enough about their pie. Wish I lived closer so I could just stop in for a slice every day and a loaf of bread. I'm a little disappointed by the changes made in decor. Back in the day each table had its own individual juke box player making it a very unique experience. I still however recommend this staple to all my gluten lovers! read more

I am only able to come here every seven years or so to gorge myself on P&H's delicious maple cream pie, so most years I just have to dream about it. That's maple cream, made with real Vermont cream so thick it's nearly butter, on top of sheer maple. Oh My God. I ate until I said, "I'm torn between staying alive or finishing this slice of pie." They make their own bread too, loaves so rich and heavy they're nearly two pounds each. As is typical of places like this, the best food on earth is ridiculously cheap. Breakfast specials were $2. We were meeting 2 other couples and arrived to get a table. It was not crowded, there were empty tables and we asked for a table for 6. Because the last 2 people were not yet there, they refused to seat us until they came. So we ended up getting a table for 4. We were then told that when the other 2 people arrived, they would not be able to sit with us, even though there was room. Again, it was not crowded, there were empty tables, no line. We were prepared to tip our server $100 because, working in restaurants, understand about turning tables, etc. Our father had just passed away and my brother and I were to meet a couple of his best friends. We were also told that we needed to order quickly because we couldn't just sit there and drink our beverages without ordering. We were told this was corporate policies and exceptions could not be made. Again, if it was busy and there was a line we would completely understand. It was between the lunch and dinner hours, empty tables and no line. The hostess and our server had attitude with us as they rattled off the corporate policy. My brother, against my advice, still tipped $30 on a $70 bill. Our Dad's friends were so put off by this they may not go back if things do not change. read more

I've loved going to P&H for pie or any meal with my family since I was little. Many fond memories here. I'm okay with change, but this isn't the P&H I remember as a kid and it's been disappointing our last three visits. Most recently my husband and I went for pie on a Saturday afternoon after a basketball game. We encountered a line of customers waiting to be seated and a dining area full of empty tables. More than enough places to be seated, but nobody was getting seated. It was evident they were short staffed. The host looked at us and watched party after party walk in. With each group he appeared to grow more annoyed and he made it obvious we were more of a headache to him, than welcome. He spoke to the couple in front of us and abruptly greeted them by saying, "Okay! Take-out or dining in?" The couple looked upset and replied that they were dining in. He spun around in frustration and told them it would be a while. We ended up waiting so long the couple in front of us walked out and so did we. I don't know when we'll go back. read more

I ordered take out here and it was two burgers. The man packing my order for the cooks told me how slow it has been at the store and that he personally checked my order and it was all good. I tip him for my order and take it home. Once home we opened our meals and it was wrong! I ordered a classic burger and my husband ordered a mushroom and onion burger , nothing I would ever eat . Both meals were his style burger! I called to let them know they messed up and the same man said "next time he would double check everything". He did say come back but after driving a hour from work I was already in my pajamas and ready to watch some TV relax and have a easy meal. I hate mushrooms and even picking them off it still tasted like that. So for $24.00 I had nothing I wanted to eat for dinner. We came because we needed to stop for a bathroom break but were stopped from leaving by the very delicious pies and then we saw the menu, we decided to stay for lunch!!! Service is moderate, ordered the cheeseburger, fishwich, clam chowder & maple walnut bread with egg salad: food is very good in terms of diner quality and got 3 slices of pies!!! I haven't been here since I was in high school (maybe 20 years) so I was super excited to go back and reminisce. I was incredibly disappointed -- the food quality is terrible. The homefries were just deep fried potatoes (essentially French fries) and the mushrooms in my veggie omelet were from a can while the cheddar cheese had no flavor at all.
