It has been a very long time since Sophia and I dined at P.F. Chang's going back to when we lived in the New Orleans area. We dined at the Virginia Beach location once but again, it was a while back (a la 2012). When we saw it was listed as part of Newport News Restaurant Week, we decided to check out their menu and saw some items that were interesting. So why not try?! We came in on a rainy Sunday afternoon after checking out a movie. Inside, it wasn't overly packed with customers. The decor was spotless and really neat. This Newport News location is very beautiful. I'm beating myself up as to not take many pictures of how it looks. Definitely a sight to see. After a few minutes, we were ready to order. For my app, I selected egg drop soup and Mongolian Beef with fried rice for the main course. Everything was pretty good. The soup was a nice start for my meal. I was surprised to see green onions in mine compared to other restaurants where it's just eggs, but it tasted good. The Mongolian Beef was cooked to perfection. I know sometimes this protein can get overdone but not here. The veggies and rice were done just right. Definitely a good lunch to have. Overall, our experience was wonderful. I had an amazing time at PF Changs. We visited the Thursday before thanksgiving for happy hour. The staff was super friendly and attentive. There is a bunch of parking in front of the building. It's located on a large shopping center as well. The establishment was very clean and organized. It wasn't very busy so it was perfect. We ordered the Jade Margarita and the Lemon Drop Martini to start. We had the lettuce wraps as well. For food, we ordered the pad Thai and the orange chicken. Dirty soy sauce dispenser etc. was a huge turn-off. This was at 11 A.M. we were the first customers at that booth on that day.I love P.F. I'm only giving 2 stars because our waiter was so kind to us not to be confused with so skilled. The problem is that he was spread too thin. My empty glass sat on the edge of the table nearly our whole meal. Our drinks were weak, a complete rip-off considering they were $18 A PIECE. The lettuce we had to use for the lettuce wraps was tough and rubbery. On the menu my food was advertised as spicy, it may have been spicy to a 5 year old. There were so many peanuts that were burnt in my food that it took away from the flavor of the meal. Overall for 2 people and a few drinks it was around $130. For $130 I could have cooked a meal 10 times the quality of this food "myself." When I go out to eat it is to taste something I can't cook as well for myself. You have failed in that regard. Waiter never gave us a chance... left as fast as he came... wouldn't give us time to say what we needed. I left so thirsty... went at least 30 minutes with no beverage before we left. Crab wontons are bomb 10/10 Wagyu beef was good I personally don't eat steak cooked to this temperature. was enjoyed by others 9/10 Asian pear mojito 10/10 for flavor but bar is definitely stingy with the alcohol. The staff is loud for no reason. They have their slang and accent that doesn't match any local or cultural dialect, but is indicative of a lack of education and proper business etiquette. It's not the best area. It's too loud to be in a comfortable atmosphere. There are more employees working than customers. As the staff believes socializing is more important. The bar is filthy. Last visit was a lunch many months ago & it was great! Service, food, flavor and portions were wonderful. This dinner visit was somewhat of a disappointment .. about a 3.5 star. Ordered the Japanese Street Noodles, which were pretty good. A bit different than the lunch I had a few months ago and no larger than the lunch portion. My friend had lo mein, which he said was good. His adult beverage was OK, but my tasty but tiny martini at $12.75 was over priced. Our server was polite, but seemed to disappear after we were served. It's been years since I've been in a P.F. Chang's -- in fact, I had forgotten about them entirely after I moved here from Ohio (where there was one nearer to where I lived). When this location moved in to the new Tech Center space, I thought, "oh yeah, I remember that chain being ok" but never got around to trying this location out. Enter COVID-19 and a need for easy online ordering and take out options! Based on the more recent reviews about this location, I thought I'd give it a shot. The good -- it's incredibly easy to place your order online and they offer free delivery with an order of $25 or more. I ordered the crab wonton appetizer and the honey shrimp main course. Dishes are served family style so you can share. These two items were enough to feed me and my two kids and still have a hefty portion of leftovers. Delivery was quick and the packaging is incredibly good. The not-so-good -- for the price (about $30 total), the quality of the food really isn't great. The rice was dry, and the shrimp very soggy. My kiddos couldn't stomach the breading, so we peeled it off and let them just eat the shrimp. The crab wontons are packed with crab meat, which is nice, but the flavor profile of the filling with the dipping sauce was just sort of weird. Not the right balance of sweet/savory at all. Based on this experience, I think it's safe to say this is a standard chain restaurant experience with a few upgraded perks given the new takeout/delivery parameters restaurants are implementing. This was truly a great dining experience! I went here after a long day at work, and the food and service did not let me down. I tried a new drink, "Rising Dragon. I believe it had pomegranate juice, tequila, and some lime juice. It was refreshing and had a cool "smoking" vibe for the presentation. I had the egg drop soup, which was the only thing I didn't like a lot. It was bland. Now those chicken lettuce wraps were yummy. The chicken pad Thai tasted like a traditional pad Thai minus an egg. Honestly it's been great. We rarely go here because it's pretty expensive. During COVID-19 they have had a family meal deal option. You are able to make different selections and it says it's $16 a person. So the family dinner for 2 is $32. When I looked up how much food it was... I realized we could feed our family of 2 adults and 3 little kids for that so the price was better. If it was $16 a person and we needed to pay for 5... no way. For $32.... This is usually my favorite restaurant but the Newport News location must have a new chef because the food has been pretty bad the last couple of times we've ordered. The rice that came with the Mongolian beef was overcooked and completely mushed together like mashed potatoes. The meat was dry and contained no sauce or green onions. The order of combination fried rice was also very mushy. The only edible thing was the lo mein and even that was dry. Wow. When I say they've changed, it is NOT for the better. I ordered two simple dishes that are usually great. I got there right when the Internet said the order would be ready but the waitress said they were still working on it. Cool. It'll be fresh. I got my food and went home. It wasn't even close to being fresh. The chicken was jerky. Straight up jerky. And it was disgusting. I couldn't even swallow the bite. Pure disgusting. I took it back because it was pretty expensive so I wanted a refund. Well the manager seemed to not care at all. He just came up, asked if I was Chelsi, gave me a refund for the rice and left. My babe already knew he wanted to grab a bite to eat since we were on this side of town last night. He spotted PF and decided let's go here for something simple and have a drink or two. We walked in and was immediately greeted by the front door staff... within seconds we were seated and within a minute, we were greeted by our waitress, Shawna (or something like that, it began with a S). She was pleasant and personable throughout the night. She was also attentive and provided nothing less than great customer service! Gold star for her!! I noticed PF offers daily specials... well on this night (Wednesday), unlimited veggie or chicken lettuce wraps are $10!!! YESSSS... awesome right! And I love the wraps. Red and wine white (certain selections) is $5 a glass. Check out the daily specials, you are sure to find something you like on one or two of the nights. The lettuce wraps were yummy and my agave margarita on point! The ambiance was lovely and the restaurant did not seem to busy at all. Parking... no issues. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken with fried rice which was an extra $4. It was disgusting. The chicken was dry. The sauce was gooey. The rice was not fried. The good looked and tasted like it came out of a precooked frozen meal from Trader Joe's. It was the worst meal I've ever eaten at P. F. Chang. Well, when it comes to good Chinese, Cantonese or eccentric Asian cuisine, P. F. Changs's normally comes up in the conversation but, should it? It was the wife turn to decide on dinner so she choose the Newport News Location P.F. Chang's. Now this location has not been open as long as the Virginia Beach location. My last time at the Va. Beach Location (Prior COVID) we had one of the best Chinese, Cantonese or eccentric Asian cuisines I've had in a long time. Maybe it was because it was new to me, I don't know. I mention this because there seems to be a signigicant difference in taste of food between the two locations. The Virginia Beach Store way out-performes the Newport News store. I've notice this the last two visits to the Newport News locations. The food here is more bland, seems not as flavorable or is missing something. I can't quite put me finger on it but there is a difference. Everything else about the visit was GREAT! We ordered online, went to pick up are food and it was ready on time. Price was fair for what we had, really good value for your buck. Service was GREAT as well; but it just the quality of taste of the food that leads me to give them a lower rating. We made a reservation for thirty for a retirement luncheon a little over a week ago. One server handled our table along with serving the entire section (other tables). We ordered drinks, then food, and waited for over an hour before being served appetizers. Meanwhile, the other tables in her section had eaten and paid. Let's go back to the drinks - I ordered a drink and requested no rosemary. After delivering all of the beverages to everyone, three drinks sat on the tray undelivered for about 5 minutes. When I asked for my alcoholic beverage, she attempted to give me one with rosemary (I had explained to her that I am allergic). Well, that drink was disgusting, so I gave it to someone at the table. I call the waitress over and tell her I'd like a new drink. I explained to her that I gave my drink to someone at the table. This woman walks away and proceeds to snatch the drink off the table. Her response was it isn't paid for - NOTHING has been paid for... Then she asks if I'm paying for it. If I ordered it and it's on my bill why wouldn't I pay for it. I GAVE it away. Finally, I order my second drink, with no strawberries (I'm allergic). We proceed to order our food. Now we wait. We ordered at 11:15 and did not receive food until 1240. It was pure chaos. Some appetizers came out after everyone else ate theirs and had entrees. My drink finally comes out. I verify there's no strawberries and she confirms. I take one look at my glass and there are two strawberries. I looked at her and said, "This is the second time you've tried to kill me." Her response was: "Did you talk to the bartender?" Why would I speak to the bartender? I wasn't seated at the bar. It was so bad members of our group had to go to the bar just to get a glass of water. The service was horrible - she would stop serving in the midst of serving and walk away with items left on the trays that needed to be delivered. One person got up and served himself. The last time I checked P.F Chang isn't a buffet. Management wasn't any better. We asked to speak to the manager and he never bothered to address the table.
