Asian Grill is one place that Sophia and I order takeout from on a constant basis. During the pandemic, they converted from a restaurant to strictly takeout which has served them very well. Recently, I have tried several dishes for the first time. Keep in mind, we've been going here for many years. It's never too late to try new things. Let's see how the recent visits turned out. As usual, we placed our orders online with no problems at all. For my most recent selections, I picked two combination plates (Mongolian Beef and Beef Szechuan Style). The staff already knew which orders I picked up when I entered inside. It's really cool when folks already know you given the many times you stop in. Definitely a great feeling when you get friendly vibes. As far as both orders go, they were good. They do overload a bit with veggies, but I can't really complain. Both were spicy but nothing that was overpowering. And they had enough fried rice in both plates. The egg rolls could be a little better but nonetheless I was satisfied with what I chose. Asian Grill is STILL going strong - they survived the COVID, and honestly, I think they've come out better! Part of why I logged on to update this is that I went outside my comfort zone and ordered the Peking Shrimp with Walnuts and Plum Sauce. It is AMAZING. Seriously. I was blown away. It's clearly a star that I'm sure most people overlook, so you should give it a shot. Other than that, the last few take out orders I've placed have been good minus the dumplings (the gyoza here are just inedible, really - even my dumpling obsessed 6 year old described these as "super yuck"). I got some sushi and a sweet potato roll - they ended up being very good. The white tuna in particular was very fresh. The beef yaki udon is one of my favorite dishes - lots of flavor and the noodles are always well cooked. For an Asian fusion place, you really can't get a better variety of stuff - but my experience is that the menu quality overall is hit or miss based on certain dishes given how many options are available. The lady proceeded to tell me that the price was correct despite me telling her, I've ordered this entire meal before and there were no price changes. Now for the food. It was sad, first off all. The fried rice lacked any flavor. The general tsos chicken was soggy. And last but not least THE CHOW MEIN. Like I said, we've ordered this entire meal before and not to mention if you look up on Google Chow Mein is a noodle dish. Tell me why they gave us watered down cabbage with no flavor and called it chow mein. I proceeded to call them afterwards to tell them this is not what we ordered and she went on to tell me that this is what Chow Mein is! Like I said. Same place, same atmosphere but this restaurant is take out only. I found this out the hard way. The website indicates dining room service, and during COVID this made sense. Always on the lookout for new restaurants, The wife and I decided to check out the Asian Grill, when shopping at Harris Teeter West Ashley Circle Center. We started with fresh spring rolls, which were your typical roll containing Shrimp, cucumber, pickled carrots, cilantro, and other spring mixes. The key to a good spring roll dish is the sauce since most spring rolls themselves are pretty much the same. In the case of Asian Grill, I give the hoisin sauce with small bits of peanuts a thumbs up. The next was a seaweed salad, which was a bit underwhelming as the taste was fishier than I like it. Last was the Pho which is a bit hard for me to judge because my wife did not know what she was ordering and got beef Pho with Tripe (cows stomach lining). Now I am typically a person who eats almost anything put in front of me, but I can't stand tripe. So while I was not thrilled with the full dish itself, I thought the beef broth was pretty good. This restaurant is not different than other similar restaurants, I would not go out of my way to eat here again. Our family has been going to Asian Grill for many years now for pick-up. It is so convenient to order and pick up within 20 minutes, and the food is high-quality and absolutely delicious! Our past experiences with Chinese pickup orders is that the food was less in quality and quantity; often the food was greasy and mushy, cold and packaged poorly, and the chow mein noodles or fortune cookies were stale (one time we ordered elsewhere and the meal had in it a dead fly!). Asian Grill's meals taste as great as they are healthy, cooked to perfection. They do not use msg and low-quality oil or other ingredients. We appreciate the value of the combo menu, which includes the main course selection, in addition to chicken-fried rice, an eggroll, and a fortune cookie, along with a variety of sauce packets, plastic utensils, and also chopsticks upon request. The packaging is sturdy and keeps the food very hot for a while, even after sitting on the kitchen counter for a time. With the combo menu selection, we also order a large or small side of soup, which comes with a wax-paper bag of crunchy, hearty crisps. There are usually enough for leftovers, including half the large side soup, for lunch the following day. Asian Grill is also our go-to whenever someone in the family is ill; their fare is 'comfort food' - quick and hot and soothing to the throat, stomach, and soul! It is also a nice meal to deliver or have delivered to a sick neighbor or shut-in. We trust Asian Grill and frequently tell others about them. Just now, we were thrilled to discover that Asian Grill also sells gift cards! I and our whole family highly recommend Asian Grill for their tasty, fine food, reasonable cost, friendly and speedy service, cleanliness, and convenience! They are very hit or miss. I mostly order Chinese spareribs and shrimp fried rice. Sometimes the ribs are good and juicy like Iike and next week they taste old and dry. Sometimes the shrimp in the rice are small and frozen and sometimes they are good sized and fresh and what Chinese restaurant doesn't have French fries to go with the smallest chicken wings on the planet. The hubs and I have ordered from Asian Grill a few times. I can only speak of the delivery, and so far DoorDash has done well. A few egg rolls were forgotten an order ago, but it's nothing to rage about. My go to is sweet and sour chicken. The batter is a bit thick, and can be soggy due to condensation trapped in the container for delivery. On a previous order the cuts of chicken were dry and hard. However, this time the chicken was tender, and moist with freshly fried batter. To gain back the crisp factor throw it in the air fryer or oven. It was accompanied with the red dipping sauce. The hubs gravitated towards the orange chicken which was nicely flavored. No crisp factor, but good chucks of meat. The fried rice, steamed dumpling, crab Rangoon, and eggs rolls were fine. I did enjoy the Thai soup when it was offered on the menu. The coconut base was creamy with thinly sliced chicken, filled with mushroom, and snow peas.
