We went here yesterday for drinks on the rooftop and did end up ordering some food. There was lots of tables and space on the rooftop for plenty of people to hang out. We had their wings and nachos and enjoyed them both. The nachos were really good and instead of queso, they used a Mexican blend of grated cheese, which was great! I went here for some drinks and appetizers with my friend a few days ago and it was a pretty good time overall. We got the soft pretzel sticks, chicken fingers, and nachos to share. Everything was super delicious and enjoyable. The nachos were huge and we had enough to take home to go. The soft pretzel sticks were my favorite though. First time for dinner at Ryan's Pub and really enjoyed the food, service, and casual vibe. This is exactly what the name implies-a pub. This place gets a little crazy and packed on Friday and Saturday nights when the college kids are in town, but that's not why I like it. They're $5 food specials during happy hour (Mon-Fri 5-8 PM) are awesome. $5 wings, quesadilla, nachos? Yes, please! They also have great lunch and daily food specials, like a full rack of ribs and a draft beer on Sundays, all for only $20. Fairly generic 'Irish-like' pub which is not particularly Irish nor much like a traditional pub either. They have some decent happy hour drink and food specials depending upon the day. Pretty basic menu with standard burgers, sandwiches, and appetizers you would expect. Ditto for the beers on tap as well as the liquor they carry. Sitting outside nursing a Happy Hour special on a weeknight in early summer after the WCU students have left town is probably he the best time to visit. Deal with a bit of traffic but it isn't too crowded. This is a place I would avoid on weekend evenings though during the fall-winter-spring as it gets really crowded with WCU students who do their share of pre-gaming at home with the share of antics (e.g., drunken buffoonery) it brings. read more

Your typical pub fair. Came here with the family because we had music lessons at Taylor's just a few doors down. We sat outside which was very nice. They had $2 coors light drafts and $5 Moscow mules as their Monday special. We had cheese steaks, and musicale and the entree steak au Poivre which tasted fine if a bit over cooked. The cheese steak was a bit dry and bland. The mash potatoes though were quite good. Basically your tradition pub fare that's executed reasonably well. For a family of 4 we spent about 60 bucks and had a little bit of left overs. Set your expectations to just ok with traditional "American" food and you will walk away satisfied. read more

Found this place and got me a certificate on Restaurant.com, otherwise I probably would have never though to go here. Came here for dinner and got the mac and cheese. Let me tell you, that was so creamy and amazing, just the right amount of cheese. The meat in it was a little strange, just tasted like a Salisbury steak. The sausage in it though was just the right amount of spicy ad I would get it again. The boyfriend got the jambalaya. It wasn't as spicy for him as the waitress said, but it was for me. Different levels of spice lovers here. Anyway, it was very good other than the chicken in it was a little dry and chewy. Overall a nice casual dining experience. read more

Like any other bar, I think the company you keep can make or break a place. My friend and I ended up here when the other place we were at got too crowded. The place can be empty one minute and jam packed 10 minutes later, so depending on when you get there, you may or may not be able to find seating. We got lucky and snagged an open booth. The music was okay and they had a fun crowd (when there was one) and when you leave with a Happy Birthday crown and its not even your birthday, you know it was a good time! read more

After the town Chili festival's ass to crotch crowdedness aggravated me enough that I needed to search out a spot to quench the one alarm fire in my mouth (MORE HEAT next year, please!), I stopped in at Ryan's. It was an absolutely crazy scene outside when I entered at the halfway point of the competition, so the packed pub interior didn't surprise me at all. A frosty pint of Harp helped me ignore the slower than normal (I'd imagine) service, and the arrival of the healthy sized portions of pork let me forget the rest. When it comes to pulled pork, I like mine to be swimming in sauce. Ryan's meat had definitely taken a dip, but it didn't have that shirt staining sloppiness I crave. Still, it was a very good sampling with a tasty, dark, and smokey sauce that had an ever so slight hint of spice (unless that was residual chili flavor), but I got it without the cheese. My significant other went for the sliced and spiced variety instead of pulled by getting the Italian roast pork. I took a bite of her's and it had great flavor, plus an au jus with a pleasant undertone of onion, but in my opinion, my meal was the better of the two. As far as the side of fries that came with each manwich went, they looked better than they tasted. I guess the papas fritas are a battered version, but they just tasted like crispy grease; all but a few were left behind for the busboys, if they have any, to scavenge (don't you judge). Seems like a nice spot to weekend it up, but I live in Philadelphia so i think this will be our only encounter. read more

I have to start out by saying that I'm a WCU alumni and spent many-a nights at Ryan's in the early 2000s. It's funny how a place like Ryan's was considered the "expensive night out" when you were in college. Trying to relieve our glory days, we went to Ryan's to grab some food and a few drinks. While the beer tasted the same, the food and service was pretty awful. As an Italian I was offended when my friend's fried calamari came with shredded parmesan cheese on top. That's violation 101. It is an Irish bar, after all. The cheese steak, the chicken blt sandwich, and the cesar salad were all pretty bad. Ryan's does have good wings, and they have a wing special every Wednesday. My (formerly) pregnant sister can attest to that. If you're in town and looking for a decent dinner, hit Ryan's for a beer before or after, head somewhere else to eat. read more

Stopped in with a friend after some last minute "omg winter break is almost over and I really need to take care of xxxx at school" business. The hostess offered us the option of sitting upstairs where she said it was a little quieter. We opted for that as it was getting quite loud on the main floor. The service was really good. Our server was very friendly and attentive AND she suggested a half order of nachos when I ordered them for a meal. The half portion was huge and I didn't finish it. I can't imagine what the full order looks like. When the server got busy, the bartender made the rounds and asked guests if they needed another drink. We must have timed our visit just right because the place filled up as soon as we ordered our meals. We sat upstairs away from the bar and happy hour crowds. The place is decorated nicely. What I liked seeing the most was on our way out by the stairs -- a sign that says something like there are no strangers, only friends who haven't met. I've eaten here once and been to the bar a couple of times. The seafood platter with potatoes was fantastic. The bar itself is pretty average. You will generally find the older college crowd mixed with a middle-age crowd. I watched the world series there and the mood was obviously a little higher that night as everyone watched their Phillies take it to the house. They still allowed smoking even though the smoking ordinance had passed by the time of the world series. Not a bad place if you just want to hang out with some friends for a few drinks. Ryan's isn't really the place for me. I'm not usually into the Irish pub scene, but I will give anywhere a chance. The food looked unappetizing but I really cannot fairly judge it because I did not order any. The bartender was nice, but spent all night flirting with my friend (as he was wearing a wedding ring). My friend is a cute blonde with blue eyes, so I'd expect this. The only thing that was frustrating was that it was my other friend's 21st birthday and he did nothing to make the experience special for her. The atmosphere was all right. I would have preferred my beer to be served colder, but they had some pretty yummy mixed drinks. I'm not entirely convinced that this place is worth visiting again, but the locals seem to love it. "Where everybody knows your name.." This is like a scene out of the old series "Cheers". If you do not frequent this place more than 1 time/ week, expect horrible service. I've been reluctantly going to this place on and off throughout my adult life and have never had above mediocre service. I go when I'm usually more than a couple drinks in and am going with the flow of the crowd I'm with - it's never my choice. After waiting 15-20 minutes to be asked what I'd like to drink, the attitudes of staff are that of a prisoner - unhelpful and almost as if you're imposing on their time. Some people LOVE Ryan's Pub...others, like me, have slowly been disenchanted by the crowds, smoke and lack of specials. This two floor pub, features a few TVs behind the bar, Golden Tee, and large booths downstairs, while upstairs you can find a pool room and another room with many tables. Personally, I don't enjoy Ryan's. On weekend nights the narrow bar is too tight to move, while during the week it is too empty to be worth the trip. read more

It was 10:30 at night and my friend Todd asked for a double tequila sunrise and I asked for a single. Both drinks tasted the same with minimum alcohol. almost nothing. Todd said that he didn't taste any alcohol and she responded with so much attitude saying "YOU WATCHED ME POOR IT."... which we didnt. THIS BARTENDERS NAME IS EMILY. we come here frequently, every weekend to be exact and this was the worst service we have ever got. EMILY rolled her eyes, caught attitude and she slammed his drink into the trash. Went here last week and waited awhile to get noticed / served while sitting down at the bar upstairs. There were 4 employees, 2 we're definitely bartenders but it took 10 min to get a drink. I was waiting patiently on the end, other people would come after me but were helped first. I ordered 2 drinks and they were made well so I was good after but then a few days later I noticed they must have swiped my card 3 times for someone else's drinks...it's been 5 days and it's still "pending" in my account. Heard this was a really fun bar from my friend who lives in West Chester. Came here for my friends 22 birthday for some drinks , and the bouncer who was a bald older man with a beard continuously tried to tell me my ID is a fake. I had multiple forms of identification on me. This was honestly humiliating and he was basically making fun of me. Me and my group of 6 girls will most definitely NEVER be coming back. I have to first say that half of us enjoyed our meals for lunch; the two who ordered the hot roast beef. I ordered fish and chips with a Coke. Coke was flat, poorly mixed, and the ice smelled bad. The fish was completely without flavor aside from that of the old frying oil (smelled overly fishy) & the pieces of fish were pretty small, more like fish nuggets. The 'chips' were apparently waffle-cut fries at one point but, they were so overdone that they broke into pieces when stabbed with a fork. The tartar sauce was old and tasted off. The coleslaw was equally unappetizing. Decor is nice and the service was quick and attentive but, of all the good bar food that can be had in town, this is down at the bottom with the likes of Jitters and the Square Bar. read more

They have the best wings in the area as far as I'm concerned!! Friendly servers, but not all that attentive. Clean bar, but bland atmosphere. Food definitely edible, but not spectacular; keep in mind it's a bar, not a restaurant. I didn't really expect those sliders to be Kobe beef but places throw that word around way too much, frozen wagyu patties at best.
