Steak with salsa and melted cheese

Who would have thought this would be a great Mexican restaurant in this area?! My friend comes this way and saw it and suggested we give it a try. I was skeptical but I like trying places so we gave it a go. Well...we were pleasantly surprised! It was a large restaurant with different eating areas, gambling in a small room. The bathrooms were cold but clean and smelled of cleaning. To the food. We had to ask for our waitress as I don't think they knew who was to work our table since we waited a while and they kept passing us up. We started with an app of a bread with chorizo and cheese served with a cheese sauce. Loved it. Along came our flight of margaritas which lasted through the meal. The chips were crisp and the salsa fresh. I got the steak with salsa and melted cheese and it came with avocado, rice and beans. Not really a rice person but this rice was good. The whole pinto beans had a nice flavor. I scooped some refried beans from my friends' plate and they were seasoned as well. She also liked the burrito. There is a parking lot but it looks like the restaurant can hold more. We just beat the dinner rush so we were able to park fine and get seated quickly.

Stopped in the other night for dinner with the family. From first appearance it's a cute and clean little Mexican restaurant. We all ordered drinks - being from the south I forgot that northerns don't know how to make tea so I was kind of disgusted when I got my murky mud glass of tea. I think it might have been a stir in powder tea? I'm unsure. It didn't taste bad but looking at it made my queasy. The chips were fresh and the salsa was okay. Not the best not the worst, just okay. The fajita mocajete was very good! Lots of chicken, beef, and shrimp. And my husband was raving about the sauce in it. He LOVED this dish. The kids had chicken and a burrito and they both liked their food as well for a kids meal. We'll come back for sure to try our more yummy dishes. I just won't order the tea again haha

I loved the decor and it was very clean! Server and host were nice, friendly and attentive. My dinner was good and my hubby liked his. I didn't care much for my drink (the blue Laguna). The salsa was very strange and almost tasted like a thick tomato soup. Otherwise it was ok.

I've been here a few times and haven't been disappointed. I've changed the Fried Snapper dish to fit my taste buds. The newest edition are the slot machines. Ooooo boy another spot to loose my money. Good drinks + Slot machines = Broke me!!

Have been here a few times, the food is good, and service is okay. The salsa is unlike any other salsa I've had before- but it's pretty good. Worth a try if you're in the area.

They're okay not really authentic mexican, and what's the deal with the tomato soup salsa? Habaneros up the street is better IMO.

Friendly service but the food was very disappointing. Lacking in seasoning and execution. First and last visit

They were OK. I'd give them a higher score because the food was good, but the prices were a little pricey. The service was excellent though.

Good good, fair prices, good drinks. Only turn off is it smells a little too much like cleaning solution when you walk in for my taste.

Amazing authentic Mexican food I'd say it's the best by far in Illinois. Especially for the price!

I've been wanting to stop in this place in the old village of Brunswick for some time. Yelp…read morereports this as closed, but it's open and the hours on this page are accurate. I finally made it here last night. Brunswick is an old German settlement that was founded in the mid 1800's. It's about two miles west of Cedar Lake/US 41, along 133rd/135th Avenue. The tavern sits at the southeast corner of 135th and Calumet Avenue. You can tell that the building is very old, but kept in very nice condition. We arrived around 6:30 PM, came in through the back door and settled up to the old bar. The owners were watching TV at the bar, waiting to serve those who came in. The menu is very simple: a good selection of domestic bottles (Miller, Bud, Coors, etc.) and a few imports (Grolsch, Warsteiner). The owners were very nice and we talked about the history of the tavern and Brunswick. According to the owner, this has been a continually-operated tavern since 1856, when it served as a stop for stagecoach travel. The tavern was very clean and had a lot of neat, old swag including a vintage Old Style light fixture. Beers were reasonably priced. It doesn't appear they serve anything but bottled/canned beer and lemonade, but definitely worth the stop for a cold beer. I'll be back next time I'm in the area!
