I love this garden. It is not your average flower & garden business. I know it's a little unorthodox and a tad bit outside of the realm of business but it's got a lot of character. Sometimes the whole idea of business can ruin something as natural as a local garden. I've come here for 3 Christmases straight for our tree and I've never been disappointed. They always hire new faces for help around the holiday season and you can tell everything here is happy to help and just filled with love and positivity. If you want to come by and just look around and hang out, that's also welcome. I've driven by many times and decided to stop in today because I was looking for an African violet pot. A man who I assume was Pablo asked me what I was looking for and I asked if he had African violet pots. He shrugged, looked annoyed to see me, and said "I don't know what I have, go look over there." Over there was a bunch of random pots, many of which were dirty, seemed to be used, and had cobwebs on them. There were almost no plants that I could see. Not worth a visit! read more

It's funny, my family owns a florist, and yet, it's my husband that is obsessed by plants. Or perhaps it's not that funny. Once you've spent the week leading up to Valentine's Day stripping thorns off of 200,000 roses, you too will develop an active dislike of plants (and V-day!). But like my husband's gastro-awakening, it's almost as if I also introduced him to the world of plants. When I took him to New Orleans, he glutted himself on po-boys, boiled crawfish, and the amazing aroma of magnolias in bloom. When we went to Thailand, he was fascinated by the street vendors, fresh coconut milk, and the aluring fragerence of jasmine everwhere we went. As he so eloquently put it: "some people travel with their eyes. Others travel with their stomachs. I find myself traveling by my nose". And indeed he does. And now that we own a house with a huge yard, I find myself dragged to every nursery and garden center that we come across. And this nursery is no different. Nestled in the back lot of the Rockville Pike strip mall, at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Old Georgetown Rd comes together, is this little nursery. Charmingly garish murals decorate the store, and the rest of the lot are pots upon pots of plants and trees in various states of bloom and decline. We came on a hot Saturday afternoon, and after walking around, we spied about three plants (two bushes and a small flowering plant) that we were interested in purchasing...except we couldn't find a sales person for love or money. We were not the only ones - there were other customers walking around, wanting to know if XYZ would do well in the shade or the sun...but no one could locate a sales person to help. Not all the plants looked "fresh". Some were clearly past prime bloom, which is fine, as there was a 25% discount on those plants. However, without the blossom or a legible tag, we couldn't tell what color flower the plant was. Not to mention - none of the plants were clearly marked, so we couldn't figure out what kind of plant it was half the time...nor what the price was. So, although there was a nice selection, we ended up leaving without buying a single thing. Not for the lack of trying...but it seemed as if they didn't really care to do business, as no one was working the registers. Odd. read more

Visited today for the first time in 25 degree weather... mistake haha. I was super impressed with the variety of spiritual art and sculptures. Mainly Buddha. On a cold day, not crowded at all because the plants are dead, however Christmas trees are for sale! Met the owner- was super laid back and friendly. He explained the history and purpose of the garden and seemed to care a lot about the place. The prices were average for a small business garden. I can't wait to come back in the spring when the plants are healthy and the weather is better. Loved the atmosphere :) read more

I don't recommend to purchase plants from this place. I purchased 3 coral bells/perennials here, along with several annuals. The plants looked unhealthy and neglected as if they had experienced extreme heat and drought. However, I thought I could revive them with a good care. Unfortunately, all annuals died right away, and two perennial plants died within same season. The soil in the pots must have some infection in it because plants from different nursery blossomed. read more

I really want to like this place. It's colorful, funky, locally owned, & has cats! However the 2 times I have been the service has been bad. Real bad. And don't try parking in their parking lot (that has no signs). You get chewed out for parking there. I was shopping for heavy planters and a trellis and swiftly left when I was attacked for parking in an unmarked lot. Doesn't it make sense to offer accessible parking for large or heavy items? I had the same experienced expressed by many others. I live very close to this business. I was excited about supporting a small business. But the customer service was inexplicably terrible. No one monitoring the register, and then hostility when you gently point out the folks need assistance. I was bewildered because there were so few customers, and it was like they didnt want to be bothered. Sadly, I left empty handed. Yelp hours clearly state that Pablo's opens at 11. At 11:05 the gates were still locked. I called a few times, no answer. A few minutes later I get a call back from "Pablo" and his greeting to me was a not very friendly "yes? you just called 3 times?" I said, yes, aren't you supposed to be open at 11? I am sitting in the parking lot. He responded "oh, no not today, today we open at 12". He should probably update the information on Yelp and anywhere else where his business hours state an opening time of 11am. He clearly did not appreciate my attempt at giving him business. I haven't been there in the spring or summer, but have gone there for the last couple of years for a Christmas tree. Went again this year hoping to have the same luck. While I did go a week or so later than in past years, it was still relatively early in December. Even still, there was not much in stock. I ended up getting a tree there anyway, because I wanted to support my local business community. Big mistake - ended up paying just shy of $70 for a tree that lasted about 4 days. The staff has always been courteous, and Pablo himself is very friendly - but $70 for a tree that sheds almost immediately, won't fluff out properly, constantly falls over, and is dead within a few days is a huge waste of money. I won't be going back at Christmas time next year. read more

A group of 4 of us was out for dinner right around the corner last night (Sat. 6/1) when we happened upon this treasure. Pablo's is not your typical garden store, not by a long shot. Entering in the evening was magical. We were ushered in by festive string lights and soothing music. Unique outdoor garden art and planters intermingled with healthy, beautiful plants. I live in Laytonsville, close to 3 garden centers and I found varieties and colors I had not seen before. We scooped up several pots. Then there is Pablo himself..a most affable, hospitable and knowledgable proprietor. His passion for plants is evident in all areas of this charming garden center. We will be back again, especially since the center is open late. Pablo's is an enchanting gem in the asphalt jungle of Rockville. The plants are beautiful and reasonably priced. read more

If you want to describe a boutique Garden Nursery this is it I found the selection enchanting and quite different from any other Nursery I've been to. The quality and variety of the plants was stunning and the help I got from Mindy was beyond compare. I didn't wander around not knowing what was what as I did in large garden centers. I have to agree with Bob B. Pablo is a jerk and although knowledgeable of his business, he was rude, probably without realizing it. As we finished the transaction, we spoke a bit of Spanish (both as native speakers.) When I asked him where he was from, he got all defensive and gave me a lecture about how he was a citizen of the world [insert eye roll] and on he went on his soap box. Nice selection of items but NO customer service friendly atmosphere. We came 5 days before Christmas in order to buy a tree and found out that all the trees were $60-$70 depending on size. I also spotted a couple of Buddha statues I was interested in and 2ft one was a whooping $1000.00 - priced by Pablo himself. He also said that if I don't like the price, he does not need to sell one and he would rather keep it for himself. He wasn't joking about it what so ever. He also had beautiful collection of stepping stones, which he wasn't interested in selling either. He refused to explain what material they were made out of. Very poor and abrupt service. We ended up going to Kensington and paid $30 for beautiful tree. read more
