Very well executed festival. I took advantage of the Groupon deals too so you save a little more. Also, they have military, student, and seniors discount at the ticket booth. This was my first SDAFF, but I'll be back again next year. Only saw four movies. What's also cool about seeing the movies is that producers, writers, directors, etc from the film would do a Q & A after the movie. So you get a little more background and insight on what they were actually thinking about during the filming itself. And I took advantage of their free opening night mixer at Maria Maria. Great snacks, plenty of drinks, and a lot of Asians too. Artists and musicians were on hand to show their talents. Blowfish - again...awesome, started off making chocolate smores over an open fire (Thanks to Travis E on the proper etiquette) and ended the night on the dance floor until 1am. Wanted to stay longer, but I had work the next morning. One of my best times ever. They gave out free Stella glasses too...score!!! Dj Icy Icy was there as well as Daniel Dae Kim and some flipina chick with a tiara. And it was Miss Cheryl's birthday too and she was dancing up on the stage... Great pics by Reggie R and the rest of the staff. Yes..SDAFF is cool. But yah, the films are ultimately what really matters. In depth, and well thought out of; it's a good thing to see your fellow Asians making something worthwhile and making a difference out there. So try to go see at least one show or two to support these guys. We need more of these out there to show their talents and bring out more culture into San Diego. Sorry this was posted time-late. So I guess try go see SDAFF next year!!!

Celebrating 10 years. Wow, congrats SDAFF! Reading some of the other reviews, mentions of being "biased", there's no question that I'm biased. Having attended and volunteering for the festival from the very first one I've got an emotional tie to the Festival for sure. Over the years the film submissions has been diverse. I've screened some really engaging films, some great stuff and some not so great, but then again, I'm not a film critic. I'm yelping the Festival, not the films anyway. The Festival has changed and grown over the years. The constant has been the passion of the staff and volunteers. No doubt, the size and scope of this 10th Festival is so much more than the first. Standing strong in an industry that basically views Asians as irrelevant is a tough gig, to say the least. Providing a venue for independent film makers, artists, actors and consumers to interact, to entertain and educate in my home town, a town that has a huge Asian population from virtually every corner of Asia, the largest continent on planet earth, is no small feat. Doing it with class, professionalism and dignity... I tip my hat to you SDAFF. And as a member of the Asian community I stand proud to be a small part of it.

The San Diego Asian Film Festival is a gem we can enjoy in our wonderful cosmopolitan town that has been the second home for so many different Asian communities. Even if I am not Asian by birth of culture, I am however culturally inclined to see what is going on in the world and especially in the cinema coming from countries like Japan and Korea. Very well organized, variety of locations to choose from and last several days, so we are all able to go watch a film or two at least! Excellent job done by volunteers, especially one of my colleagues who was delivering flyers and posters at work (we have an extensive Asian population, mostly Chinese) and delivering 2 free passes in my cube:) Nice!

Nice selection of foreign films, but the choice of theaters could be better.

I really enjoy coming to this theater when I'm looking for a different viewing experience. My last…read morevisit was to see the Odyssey. We chose to watch it here because it's a 3 hr movie and the chairs fully recline, so it was more comfortable. The service was good, however the chairs need some repair because my call button didn't work. So I initially thought that the service was taking a long time. My husband's button worked and they came quickly after we pressed his. They have a decent menu, but I wish that they had some more candy options. My favorite is Junior Mints and it's not on the menu, sadly. I like coming here on occasion but they get 4 stars because they could really use some upgrades or refurbishing. Some bigger screens would be a nice upgrade too.

This theater has really gone into the toilet. (More on the toilet in a moment)…read more Broken seats, and the ones not broken have torn up foot rests and sticky armrests. I've sat in recliners on people's front porches that are in better condition. Ok smallish screens and decent sound system. Popcorn is quite good. The restroom was horrifying with falling apart light fixtures and exposed wiring -- which at least drew attention away from the rotting grout and the olfactory assault baked in throughout. What the hell happened to this place? BTW, this is your reminder to ALWAYS sort Yelp reviews by date, because those 2014 reviews displayed prominently are far, far from accurate, just as "Luxury Cinemas" is now far, far from accurate.

AMC POWAY 10 @ POWAY…read more Parking was super easy since AMC Theatres has a huge lot, there were plenty of spots when my friends and I went to watch Wuthering Heights. The place itself is massive, and getting in was smooth with quick ticket scanning. Pro tip: go on Tuesdays or Wednesdays because tickets are 50% off. Ours ended up being around $10 instead of $20, which is a huge difference. They have all the classic snacks, but they're definitely on the pricier side, we just grabbed popcorn, a slushy, and some candy. The layout is pretty straightforward: bathrooms are upstairs (women's on the left, men's on the right), and all the theaters are downstairs. The seats were a highlight, they recline and even have heating, which I've never seen before in a movie theater. The movie itself wasn't exactly what I expected, but still interesting to watch. Just be prepared there were about 45 minutes of ads beforehand. Overall, really great experience, and I'd definitely recommend checking out this AMC!

AMC do better on your "Gourmet Popcorn"…read more After asking the concession attendant if the street corn gourmet popcorn was any good. He enthusiastically said yes, so I purchased the larger container. Found my seat and started to eat some. Although I put a small dent in the contents, I brought the rest back to the BNB to enjoy later. But when paying a premium for "gourmet popcorn" one would think every piece would be delicious ang a whole kernel of popcorn. A fourth of my container was bits and pieces of non edible popcorn as I found this out later in the evening. Sadly I don't think if that is considered gourmet. I'll pass.

The mini golf is different. It is neon glow style and you can play with 3-D glasses but we didn't play with them. There are 9 holes with the last one being a ball collector so make sure you only use this when you are done. We may have played through a few times to get our moneys worth. Most of the games are a dollar or more per play which is hard for me as I am older and remember when games were a lot less but those are the times. We still had fun and will likely be back. We got a few tickets, around 2,000 but as typically we were not able to get much with our tickets. They do have a lot of options but just not much we were interested in.
