Usually never in this plaza but yesterday was my first time stopping by for a Backrooms showing. From the outside, the theatre is hard to find. It's located on the inside of a mall, but there's not even a sign that specifies that AMC is there. Just know that once you've passed by Trader Joe's and start walking to Ralph's, you've gone too far. As for parking, I think on the lower level, which is also hard to pinpoint from the main road (depending on where you're driving from, I've been told there's a parking garage). For me, I just ended up parking near the Trader Joes's/PetSmart side, which offered plentiful and more manageable parking. Aside from that, I totally understand what everyone means by the odd parking situation now lol. Once I found the theatre, it wasn't a bad experience. Staff was friendly, bathrooms, for the most part were clean. The inside felt a little outdated, but the reclining seats were comfortable! Keep in mind that they WILL make some loud squeaky noises if you're trying to adjust the positions mid-movie. I'm not sure if I'll be back to this AMC specifically, but I can't say I had a completely terrible experience either. read more

THE OIL IS OFF (3 stars) Not my favorite AMC theater but likes the reclining chairs. Location is in La Jolla Village (aka college student hub). It's downstairs and it's pretty busy. The smell of popcorn filled the air, but not a good kind of smell. Ordered popcorn and the popcorn itself had an unusual weird after taste. No it's not the butter, I take my popcorn without butter. This was the first time I didn't fully enjoy myself at the theater. The theater we were in was super hot. My husband mentioned to the staff at Guest Services about the AC not being on, but it was never turned or at least we never seen anyone follow up to see if it was working. It made the experience a bit uncomfortable. I was also disappointed in the cleaning of the seats. There was still food in our cup holders and wet spots on our seats. We just cleaned it ourselves. I went to see Good Boy here. Its a decent movie. Oddly enough, it was more eerie and sad than it was creepy and scary. Nonetheless, i did enjoy it. The theater i was in was VERY small. It felt like maybe 7 or 8 rows. The seats adjust but is not comfortable at all. The seats didn't feel comfortable. The theater was clean and it had a small claw machine area and a nice concession stand. The theater was pretty much empty when I was there. Bathrooms ate clean and don't give a creepy haunted movie theater feeling. Lol whatever that means right? For a small theater, this place was nice, clean, and looked fun. read more

Complete honesty here...the food is what you would expect from an AMC. Either you enjoy it, or you don't. Overpriced. Typical of a movie theatre. I can't complain too much of the service, the employees do what they are trained to do. For La Jolla AMC, I expected a little more cleanliness. Bathrooms were not attended. Paper towels every where. I can't blame the workers because it's the people that use them and trash it like it's their home. We enjoyed our movie experience here at the AMC ... they are currently remodeling the hallway etc but the theatre inside is nice and completely remodeled! We were also impressed with the heat settings on the seat. There were 2 and it goes off prolly after 15 min as it gets pretty toasty. The staff at the concession stand was amazing. This is my favorite local AMC. I've been going here for over 20 years since I used to live around the corner. I rediscovered this spot in recent years after having gone to Mission Valley, Fashion Valley and UTC. The La Jolla location beats them all due to their comfy reclining seats! There is also a bar within the theater so you could have and take an alcoholic beverage into your movie. There are lots of food and drink options nearby so you could enjoy Chipotle or other restaurants and Starbucks before or after your movie. AMC offers a free Stubs membership to earn points on purchases towards free food and drinks, and if you upgrade like we did to Premiere you get waived online processing fees and additional perks like priority concessions line, birthday popcorn and drink. We're here regularly despite this theater being farther from us than two other AMCs, two Lots, and UltraStar. read more

I have been to all the local AMC theaters lately and this is the most convenient in terms of parking (lots of it, close to the theater, and underground, though tricky to get to). This place is in bad need of a renovation. We came here for a 12:30 showtime. Came around 11:45 to allow time for my senior mom. However, they didnt open until 12. When they opened, we were greeted with a friendly person to check our tickets. Then we headed to the concession stand and ordered gourmet popcorn, caramel and cheese. The cheese tasted stale. Being that they just opened, you would think that their rug would be cleaned and vacuumed but they were not. The bathroom sinks were disgusting. When we entered the theatre where we were going to see the movie, the room smelled like wet rag and stale water. The stereo inside the theatre was way louder than normal. read more

First and foremost, I am a big fan of AMC! I see a ton of movies and I am an A-list member. This particular theater is the closest and most convenient to where I live. They do have the reclining seats and all the new movies. Unfortunately, the flaws are starting to become too extreme to continue coming back. Although they do have reclining seats, they are old and worn out. Some of the seats are lumpy and uncomfortable. Most of the time they are dirty and have garbage stuck in them. The next big problem is their temperature control of these theaters. Some of them are so warm in the summertime and a few of them might be freezing. We went to the movies there last night and the theater was so cold. I could've been sitting outside in the parking lot. I was wearing a down puffer coat and was still freezing. The overall theater is really dirty. The steps leading into the theater are never vacuumed and the carpet is filthy. The bathrooms are always dirty. The level of dust that is built up on the toilet paper dispensers Says it all. I always notice that never changes no matter how many times I go to that theater. The garbage is typically overflowing and it is common to not have paper towels and necessities to wash your hands. For some reason, the popcorn at this particular AMC always seems stale even when it's supposedly freshly made. When you compare it to the AMC in Poway, their popcorn is so so much better. Not sure why this is, because you would assume they all use the same kind of popcorn and similar methods to pop that popcorn. This whole theater is overdue for a renovation with really paying attention to their HVAC system in all of the theaters and new seats and management attention to cleanliness. Even though this one is the most convenient, I will have to drive a little further to go to their nicer locations, which would be the AMC in the UTC mall or the Poway location for me. read more

Went August 9 for the Fantastic 4 showing at 7:15. The seats were so dirty to sit in. The one next to mine had wet grease stains all over in and mine had popcorn all between the creases. This was for theater number 5. I didn't get to enjoy the movie either cause I was too busy sticking too the seated that were old and not comfortable at all. Place must be struggling because they didn't have the AC going either so my wife and I were sweating the entire time. This was probably one of the worst experience for a recliner high end experience. You best guarentee I never go back to AMC ever. Edward's Cinema is where it is at specifically Mira Mesa. Either way even if they did somewhat remotely improved I still won't be going back. I went to see the 2:15pm Hamnet showing with my mom and her friend. Her friend bought the tickets. My mom is a wheelchair user but can walk short distances with assistance. We arrived to find the main elevator only takes you down one floor, where you can buy the tickets but not to the theatres. There is a second elevator to take you down to the theatres but this one was out of order and a sign read that guests could take the escalator or get a refund. We opted to try the escalator. An employee named Justin came by to see if he could help, I asked him to carry her wheelchair while I helped her down the escalator. She ended up falling at the top of the escalator and it brought her to the bottom where after some struggling Justin was able to help me get her up. I'm very grateful he was there and was so helpful in assisting but I wish this didn't happen in the first place. It's irresponsible that the theatre would sell wheelchair accessible tickets when they knew their elevator didn't work. There should have been a notice upon purchasing the tickets online. I don't blame them for her falling, obviously we made the choice to try the escalator but it was still a frustrating experience. read more

I wouldn't say this movie theater was my favorite. To begin with, parking was a hassle--it was extremely crowded. While the seats did recline, the theater was uncomfortably warm, even though I was wearing a tank top in early February. You cannot get reception on your phone. On top of that, the movie, scheduled for 6:45, showed 15 minutes of ads rather than traditional trailers. On the bright side, the theater was clean, and the seats were comfortable. read more

Today is the last day for my A-list (movie pass), as I switched over to Regal Unlimited to spread the financial support and for a change of scenery. I'd go here depending on showtimes for the flicks that I want to see. Besides, it's uncrowded here, and the recliner seats are cozy. Tonight, they provided early access to Transformers: Rise of the Beast, before it's theatrical release tomorrow, 6/08/2023. To my surprise, they gave away a movie poster and a collectible patch; which is a nice bonus. On to the food. I ordered the Stone-Fired Flatbread Pizza ($10.19). I waited about ten min., but it was a good thing that I was early. The pizza was moderately overcooked but still satisfactory. The sauce was similar to Celeste frozen pizza; however, there was more cheese, and the pepperoni tasted fresh. It's definitely heartier than popcorn or a hotdog; thus, I was content. 7/10 rating. Goodbye, AMC. At least until my three month Regal Unlimited membership expires. read more

Trash left in theaters when the minions movie started then what appears to be mold on the icee machine. It is not dust because if you zoom in it looks fluffy and it's green. Regardless, if it was upkept and cleaned it would never get this bad. The theater had trash everywhere not just our row. Cups and popcorn buckets left in seat. Usually love coming to AMC's because they hold themselves to a higher standard. Not sure if it's an off day or what but disappointed hopefully it's better in the future because I see good reviews for this location. read more

The AMC with reclining chairs is how I think of this one. Its a smaller theater, this the '12'. But it is good watch if you like to pop your feet up. They've had problem with mildew smell sometimes in some theaters, but if that happens, just ask for a refund/ credit and come back when it's better or see another movie. They, like all AMCs, honor the pay it forward tickets for 'Sound of Freedom' which is s solid movie that I highly recommend. This use to be our go to theater, but in the last few years this place as dramatically declined. Latest visit was this last Friday with the kids. For starters, the concession stand looks horrible. The front counters are filthy and none of the staff has any urgency to clean up. The drink station was a mess and the employee that was mopping the area was doing so with a soak and wet mom. The bathrooms...disgusting. My 5 year old refused to use the restroom because of how dirty and smelly it was. The theaters are very much run down. The location has assigned recliner seats. We got to our seats and the sides of the seat were black. The recliner is red and the black was just areas where the color had peeled off. I work in furniture, so I know leather....or vinyl like these probably are...will eventually peel. Especially with high uses. But for this type of theater, you expect them to maintain a luxury look. Many of the seats should be replaced. My sons seat had cuts and rips all over the seat. It's just overall not a good experience. Last complaint in theater 12 is the lighting. All three the previews, the lights did not turn off. When they finally did, the movie had started. If you have ever watched a movie in a theater, you know when the previews start the lights dim. When these lights went off it was totally like a switch was flipped and it was like a blackout all of a sudden. I didn't renew my AMC stub club this time and I doubt I will be back to this location. Theater had comfortable seats and was clean, bathrooms were also tidy. What I didn't like was the way this one is set up. Everything via a kiosk including food. You'd think this would make for faster service but it was horrendous! Customers are bound to fumble with ordering at the kiosk since it's likely we don't go frequently to be super familiar so this was slowdown one. Then, the staff pulling the orders were sluggish and kept getting things incorrect. They also let certain items deplete causing a third slow down. (Hotdogs and other items went down to 0 making customers have to wait extra time for things to be heated, items running out/partially fulfilled orders also made them forget items and pass out food from order 3 back to order 1 because order 1 was still waiting on that item but they forgot...). The same staff members trying to get out food were also the ones refilling popcorn and they really just could not handle the break in flow that created. I think the failure here is how this is all set-up (everyone walking up to the staff to interrupt them/customers not being limited to a line where they get service) and no dedicated staff to serve customers. It felt very much like peaking in the back to a kitchen at a restaurant and asking the cooks for extra sauce when they're making someone else's dinner. Also butter and condiments were located past the ticket check and not in the food area which was annoying in this case because you're standing there waiting on part of your order due to all the slow downs and can't get what you need while you wait. I'll be avoiding this theatre for others with more traditional set-ups. read more

Just got back from Aida. First we were told to go to theater 5 and then 10 minutes after the show time, were told to moved to theater 4 due to a mixup. Then during the show, there were three occasions, once during the intermission. twice during Act 3, they showed ads and trailers while the sounds from Aida was coming out so we missed a few minutes of the visual. The girl who helped us at the counter, was sweeping and as soon as we got to the counter, she started helping us without washing her hands. Very unprofessional. Then going into our theatre, absolutely disgusting smell. The smell of wet towels that have been in a plastic bag for way too long. There seemed to not be enough time in between for cleanup, Trash over flowing from bins. Went to the restroom, that was also very bad and needed some TLC. Lastly the only thing I bought was popcorn, I could only eat about less than a quarter, it was soooo salty. Not worth it, so I had to throw it out. It's very unfortunate, this theatre was one of the nice ones a few years ago for being in La Jolla. However I will not be coming back here and I don't recommend. read more
