It was just the service that was terrible, my drink was flat and I had to wait for 30 mins just to have it corrected. When I asked ( who appeared to look like management) this female aside to just ask if they had fixed the carbonation in their fountain before I decided to stay in the 30 min line she appeared frantic and blew up on me saying " I'm trying to call my management to figure this out and she's not answering" and just paused and ran away. Weird. I asked for assistance again from another young lady who was legit just standing around and gave me a smart A answer. "Once you get to the front of the line" please keep in mind, this line was so long and took forever to move that everyone missed at least the first 30 mins of the movie. It was our first time here, I am so glad we were able to watch a movie on base. You just can't beat the prices for tickets and affordable menu items. There is plenty of parking in the lot. I love the beautiful theater inside, seats do not recline but we didn't mind. One tip, bring a jacket or even a blanket, we were so cold for our late afternoon movie. Staff is friendly, bathrooms were clean. We will return for another movie! read more

Dungens and Dragons with my dad!!!! Muhahahaah.... Great guy he is, doesn't even know what he is watching but took me on base to escape the Friday night crowd and give me a break from studying. This place charges more but it's still the same two decades later. Funny how that works out. Hahaha! Concessions: I guess asking for a refill after filling an empty container requires you to pay full price for another bag of popcorn! So, just be weary, inflation comes even to your safe havens and places from your child hood. Unfortunately for them, I am unfazed by the mistreatment. My dad is happy and I am seeing something I want to see. But it may be the last time Income here. Sad how serving a country only matters while your active service. I was in and out of this theater probably since 2014, my first double feature was Godzilla 2014, they showed the original Godzilla 1954, since then I have came back for many more occasions mostly for special premiere of various movies with appearance from plenty of celebrities. I would say the drive from Miramar base entrance to the theater was the shortest only half a mile, the concession also nice although they didn't allow outside food and drinks like AMC, they didn't have unlimited refills, if you want a refill you need to pay for another drink with the same price, with the receipt you will get $1 off. Like any military base theater, it is one big screen and showing one movie at a time. Has a large auditorium to fit at least 1000 people at full capacity, ADA access, I wasn't here for any regular showing but tickets are about $5 right now. Thanks for providing an outstanding movie experience. The theatre is massive and has a descent sound system and seating is comfortable. If running late for a popular movie, don't sweat it because they usually start the movie late if the concessionaire has too long of a line. Please make concessions faster:-). It's been a while since I went to the movies here, but ever since the theater was upgraded, I have to admit... I'm impressed. The new seating is nice, and the digital screen is crystal clear. The theater also is 3-D capable, and I want to check out one of the 3-D movies here when they have 'em. The restrooms also have gotten a facelift as well. Unfortunately, the price has gone up to $3, and the concession lines are still long. Also, the parking lot is still a bit of a maze to navigate; maybe parking at the MCX and walking it would be better Still, if you don't mind waiting a bit longer for newer releases to come here, and standing for the National Anthem prior to the movie's start (oh yeah, now they're airing previews before the movie - before the upgrade, they were barely shown), the Bob Hope Theater is worth coming out to if you have military base access or know someone who does. read more

Please note this theater is inside of MCAS Miramar and therefore you need military identification to get inside OR be with someone who does. If you're coming here hoping to get a top quality movie experience like at an Imax theater then you're out of luck. This place is somewhere between watching a movie on your home TV and a projector at a high school auditorium. The movies are $3 a ticket or you can buy a punch card for 12 visits for $30. The money you spend is put back into the military MWR so it's worth it in my opinion. The seats could be a touch more comfortable, but I survived. They do free showing of various movies, EFMP movie events, and sometimes they have celebrities come by for early viewing and meet and greets. Parking is behind the theater and if for some reason they run out of room you can just park at the end of the commissary and walk over, it's not that far. (or you could park in the dirt lot like some do but I'm not entirely sure if that's legal?). Overall you should totally come here at least once to check it out. read more

Movies on the cheap? Please and thank you! For a whopping $3, you get to watch a movie in a spotless, comfortable and spacious theatre. It may not be the most modern but what they lack in the latest and flashiest amenities, they more than make up for it everywhere else. The concession stand is inexpensive as well and they recently opened up a wine and beer bar. For you single ladies and cougars, you'll get free marine eye candy while you catch a flick...werk gurl, werk. I'm often turned off by the chaotic movie crowds and wait until the movies are released on DVD to avoid the madness. For some reason, I never feel claustrophobic here and I've observed that the people seem to be more civilized and well mannered on base. Perhaps it's the military discipline aspect of the patrons? I grew in a military family so manners and showing respect were a huge deal. Once you've frequented enough, the small, family-like staff familiarizes themselves with you and sometimes greet you by name. Little details like that make a big impact. They also offer earphones for the hearing impaired. From time to time, they offer free movie screenings and raffle off prizes to the audience. Who doesn't love freebies? Monday night football is a seasonal highlight for you sports fans and it's quite a visual experience on the big screen. Been here many times before during my younger years and as an adult. The theater was always a cheap date. Price, value and selection, nobody even came close! Movies used to be free, now they're cheap. The theater was renovated and seats 1000+. Parking could be tricky especially during special engagements or early release days. I was saddened when I lost my privilege of visiting this place when I reached the max age. It was such a great place to watch a movie or two and enjoy the AC! It was clean and the staff were friendly... the only thing that you must be warned about is you will see breast feeding and hear infants cry... don't be alarmed, it's a military base theater. Sometimes I wish I could still come to this place especially with prices at other theaters around town reaching $20! Thanks to the U.S. Government for providing the MCCS Bob Home Theater for the families to relax and enjoy themselves. Beautiful renovated theater has a high ceiling with lots of of non reclining seats and for $3 a ticket, so worth it! I believe children under 5 are free and children 6-11 are a buck. Great sound system as well. Concession stand not only has cheap snacks and non alcoholic beverages (including a drink very similar to an icee) but also sells beer and wine . Unfortunately the theater shows one movie at a time and only at few selected times. Definitely a gem regardless! And the National anthem starts the beginning of every movie day of before previews. read more

$1 movies. Between this theater and redbox I never have pay more than a dollar for any movie. The parking lot is a big clusterfuck though at the end of every movie. It's best to either park a little further away so you don't have to deal with people that don't know how to drive their minivans or stay and watch the credits. read more

It's the movie theater on Miramar base so there comes some pros and cons. Pros: -tickets are cheap -there are many advanced screening opportunities throughout the year -concession snacks are relatively cheap -theater seats at least 1500 people -clean seating area, lobby and bathrooms Cons: -if you're a civilian you can only come here sponsored by someone who has base access -bathrooms built according to male/female ratio so there are plenty of male stalls with only 1 stall for women -seats aren't raised by much so if there's a tall person in front of you, good luck -usually movies play here a week after most movies come out to the general public (you want to see the latest flick? Wait another week) Every showing there will be the national anthem played which means standing in attention-I don't mind this so much. I do avoid having to use the bathroom here when there are advanced screenings only because there's just that one stall and the theater is filled to capacity. Oh if you get the nachos, just heads up the cheese is pretty spicy. And the popcorn is the perfect amount of butter and salt...no need to add more. They do provide beer here in a separate line in the lobby. In advanced screenings when people wait in a long line, and especially if it happens to be a very popular showing (i.e. Marvel movies) they play music and grill up burgers and hotdogs to buy outside of the main entrance. read more

I've never actually been here for a movie but I have been in this building about three or four times for various other events. The facility is always clean. It's not some sort of premier theater venue but it's nice and clean. There's a concession stand in the entrance. It seems like there have been numerous performances from some pretty famous people here. read more

From all the times I have checked in here, I still haven't reviewed this place? That's a sad Yelper fail. I love going here...why? No, they do not have luxury armchair setting or seat service or gourmet hotdogs with Dijon mustard but its a nostalgic old time movie theater without all the bells and whistles. They did update their snack bar and added alcohol during some movies (mostly the night ones.) But I love how the movies they show are current with what's in the civilian theaters and sometimes there are special sneak previews, guest appearances and even 3D movies for the same price! Its a no frills place to go watch a movie. read more

This may not be a state of the art, 3-D capable or IMAX. But It is large, roomy seating, inexpensive, and comfortable! Adults are $3, Kids are $1 under 5 are free! I take my family of four in for a movie and it runs us about $25 total with Popcorn, Drinks, candy and sometimes even hotdogs or Pizza. Playing the National Anthem prior to all Movies. This place has tradition, patriotism, protocol, nostalgia, all in one evenings entertainment. I'd like to see some changes in the refreshments, better quality, Popcorn butter and maybe some additional seasonings for popcorn. Like, Cheese, Ranch or some others available. It's not Cinepolis or Imax Theater- it's on a military base w/military accommodations. Having said that, the money spent at this theater (I believe) goes right back to the military community- I'll take it! =) This is a nice theater, excellently priced concessions, comfortable seating, inexpensive ticket prices and extraordinary customer service.The only drawback I can think of is the sound system isn't great. At times, it sounds muffled. We saw the season finale of the Walking Dead @ Bob Hope Theater and it was a fab-time! We also saw advanced screenings of: Suicide Squad, Guardians of the Galaxy2 and the Wedding Ringer. Some times, movie cast members show up for photo ops. Something has to be said about the awesome camaraderie you feel, when you watch an advanced screening, on this base. Everyone is respectful of each other, no ones' acting the fool, everyone laughs together & you feel safe, when walking out to your car. I think this is a pretty good setup. Came here for a special USO event, and was amazed at the theater size - room for 1,500 in fairly comfy seats. Screen was huge and sound was great and I hear they are 3-D capable. Not only are the movies fairly cheap, but the concessions are also cheaper than at a regular theater. I had a hot dog here - good frankfurter, but the bun was bleh. Went here the other night with my boyfriends to watch Star Wars a second time:D Love that it's a family friendly theater and there's always a second snack line that people always forget about. It's really cool that they serve alcohol too. For a base theater, it's pretty nice and there's tons of room. The tickets are really cheap too, $3 (I do remember when they used to be $1 though). And if you're already planning on buying foods/drink the REEL DEAL gives you 2 tickets, a large popcorn, two drinks & candy for only $16 which is wayyy worth it. Only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 is because of the seats. I love Star Wars but about an hour into the movie I got really uncomfortable since the seats are definitely not made for movie viewing entertainment. read more

Pros: - $3 movie tickets - Large seating area - cheaper concession items - Free special advance screenings to movies with chances to meet cast members Cons: - Month old movies are listed - Seats are old theater-style, so chances of viewing obstruction - Military base access and military ID required My Experience Synopsis: If you are the type of person that doesn't care about seeing movies right when they premier, have the patience to wait for a couple weeks, and/or doesn't like to brag/post that they saw a movie at midnight before everyone else, then this place is for you... if you are able to get in on base. If there is a movie that came out, it will probably take a couple of weeks for that movie to show at this theater. The debate for the viewers is "spend $18 or more per ticket" or "wait a couple weeks for a $3 ticket." So it really depends on how badly you want to see that specific film. Before the previews start, all patrons have to stand for the national anthem. If this is your first time in the theater, you will be like "what the?! For a movie?!" Located inside MCAS Miramar, one person in the group has to have access on the base and is able to buy tickets for the rest of the group. Seats aren't bad, it just isn't great when you have to play the role of short viewer behind a huge-headed person or tall-and-lengthy individual. They updated the screen and projector in this huge One-Movie theater so it is bigger. I wouldn't say it's like IMAX, but comparing it to how it used to be a few years ago, it is a MAJOR improvement. Concession stands is alright, they have extended from a 2 cashier stand to having 3 locations in the lobby to help ease traffic. Still, the line to get a movie snack takes a while to get through. Bathrooms are alright... for the men. This building is VERY old, way before it was a Marine base and in the early years of being a Navy base (Side Fact: remember Top Gun? Yeah, this is the base where they filmed it) so the bathrooms were developed with the mindset to cater to majority males. Men's bathroom space is large, but the Female's (from what I heard, I haven't been in there, I'm not a pervert) is small like a large closet. So the stereotype of having a long wait for the women's bathroom is multiplied a bunch of times. When the Bob Hope Theater has advance screenings of major films, it is FREE, which is AWESOME. Depending on the film, the attendance can vary from "being able to walk into the theater" to "waiting in line to get inside for a number of hours before they open." Example: We saw the advance screening of "The Gambler" and was able to walk in a find a seat easily, and there were a lot of seats left open. For the advance screening of "Captain America: Winter Soldier," got in line and waited at noon, doors opened at 2pm, they showed the first Captain America as filler until the feature started at 6:30pm. Q&A with the directors and producers afterward. Another big plus to the advance screenings is that sometimes the cast members of the film go to the event to do an autograph session and Q&A after the film, which is nice of them to come by and support for the military community. Big appearances they had come in (for me at least) were Ryan Reynolds for Green Lantern, Directors Anthony & Joe Russo, and Kevin Hart for The Wedding Ringer. We love this theatre not because it's the best screen or sound or seats, but because it's family friendly and it's very inexpensive for a family of 6 to see a new release movie. For the inexpensive tickets, I'm happy to put up with some babies crying in the back. I'm less happy to put up with misbehaving kids, which there are sometimes many of on crowded nights (those parents need to check their kids). Minus one star for the ladies room lines being impossibly long during premier nights and pre-screening nights (need more toilets). The snack bar is standard, and they sell beer and wine now. That's awesome. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and in college when I used to work at the base youth center, we would bring the kids once a week for a kid-friendly movie. I'm thankful that the Bob Hope Theatre continues to serve the military community so well! read more

This theater is showing all the MNF games this year. I decided to take my son as we had never seen a football game on the big screen before, and we were not disappointed. The games are free, and they had free nachos, hot dogs, and raffle tickets for prizes like a Chargers jacket. They also have the regular concessions for sale as well. The screen and sound are good, and the facilities are super clean. It's a great setup, and we will definitely be doing it again. read more
