PCLI Did improve my vision significantly However after the RLE Procedure my vision was not as good I expected 20-25 and 20-30 I was told I had secondary cataracts that could be improved with YAG Surgery I was disappointed since I had already spent a lot of money and YAG Surgery was an additional $2500 per eye before insurance . Two Weeks Post Op Life-Changing Experience Despite My Fears! Let me start by saying I was extremely terrified about getting LASIK. I have an intense fear of anything near my eyes, and while I understood it was a laser and not a needle, the thought of something going wrong or even going blind (even though I know the risks are minimal) had me so anxious. I have lived with very poor vision my whole life (-8 in one eye and -7 in the other), and I knew that if I didn't act soon, I might not be a candidate for LASIK later. My heavy prescription glasses had been unchanged for years and limited my frame options, so I finally decided to face my fears and go for it. Even that morning, I was still scared out of my mind. I'm so glad I scheduled an early morning appointment because the staff was amazing from the moment I arrived. The doctor was an absolute superstar--he explained every step of the procedure as it was happening, which helped keep me calm and still. They even had someone stand by to offer me a squishy stress ball for my nervous hands! The whole team made me feel supported and reassured. The surgery itself was fast, and I followed all the aftercare instructions to the letter. I went home, took a nap, and diligently used my eye drops (antibiotics, lubricating drops, etc.) every 15 minutes, as directed. For the first four days, I minimized screen time and took it easy. Now, two weeks later, I couldn't be happier with my results. My vision is incredible, and my eyes feel great. I've had minimal dryness (using drops four times a day as recommended) and no infections. Wearing goggles to bed with an airplane neck pillow was a lifesaver for me as a side sleeper during the first week. I also invested in individual-use eye drop vials--they're super convenient, hygienic, and sting-free. A couple of tips: * I used a special heat face mask that didn't put pressure on my eyes but provided heat at night before bed, game-changer for comfort! * I avoided makeup entirely for the first 2 weeks and got a special, eye-safe brand recommended by my main optometrist for when I finally did wear makeup. If I had to nitpick, my biggest complaint was the discomfort from the protective contact lens they place after surgery. It felt like having an eyelash stuck in my eye until it was removed at my follow-up appointment only in the one eye, but the relief was instant once it was out! PCLI was excellent and clean and everything you'd want in eye surgery. I'm giving them a one star because right before my surgery they gave me a slip to sign if I didn't want their doctors to pray over me before surgery. I felt taken aback and questioned if I even trusted them if I said no. I did say no and my surgery was excellent. In the go home back they included a proselytizing book by the CEO. I found this extremely offensive and unprofessional. If they're going to spring Christian proselytizing on their patients, they should be upfront let you know that are a Christian-based practice and let us decide if we want to go to them or not. I went to them based on a recommendation from a friend--and because they were the only place I could find with a high rating. And I must say... It was wonderful from start to finish. Staff: very friendly and helpful, frequently asking if I had questions. Doctors: professional and caring. Procedure: (cataract surgery for one eye) incredibly fast. Very little wasted time. I never felt any pain or heavy discomfort. I got honest answers for everything I asked and zero upsell. The doctor actually felt that the premium lens would not be wise to do for my situation. They suggested a distance lens at first (since my right eye was good at distance) but understood my particular desire to go with intermediate range due to heavy computer usage on a daily basis. What could be improved? Well, I didn't ding from a 5 since I started at 5.5, but the phone communication did come up a tad short, whereas I was supposed to be contacted about an appointment time, but didn't hear from them so I called. This also occurred when I was supposed to be contacted a week before my appt. Nothing too big. And what helps is that I was able to speak with someone directly each time I called. To be honest, my only hesitation in writing such a glowing review is that I fear they will get too popular and it'll take a long time when the time comes for another surgery (hopefully not for many years). But after reading such awful reviews and seeing how poorly others were rated on YELP and the BBB, I definitely am happy I held out for a solid place with excellent doctors and staff. The staff were rude and not filling out required medical papers for work and medical leave. Staff were difficult to work with and not completing paperwork in timely manner. I had my Cataract surgery over the Summer, at this Bellevue clinic since my insurance covered my appointments and surgery. They are pretty thorough in my first 2 exams there in explaining all about the procedure. They will ask you to get a friend or relative to drive you to the surgeries in case you decide to take the extra anti-anxiety meds to calm you down. I opted not to take these extra pills since I was not too nervous. I could not find a friend to drive me for first surgery on my right eye but they had a free shuttle pick me up. That was an extra special service since I'm too young to get Medicare insurance that covers Taxi rides. But they advised me Not to Hire an Uber Car either in case you are very drowsy if you take the Meds and get in a car with a stranger. A Nurse will help inside the clinic to guide you from station to station before and after the surgery. They were kind and to tell them if you had any issues. The eye surgeon also came to meet me during the pre-check . He also was very nice right before the laser surgery and made me feel comfortable. The whole staff was great even though there were many patients there that morning. The only major problem I had after my surgeries were light sensitivity. So I did have to avoid my Outdoor Summer and live concerts and activities being in the Sun. They give you two types prescription eye drops to use for 2 weeks. They also gave me free lubrication drops since I do get Dry Eye still. You also have to go in the next day after each surgery so they check on your eyes which is good. You can tell them any issues via phone too and can call if you have an emergency. Luckily, both surgeries in both my eyes went well. The Lobby pretty large and nicely decorated too. To clarify my original review. The price of $6700 was for a standard lens and did not involve any type of premium lens. The cyber incident cost me a lot actually. It caused PCLI to not be able to not respond to the scheduling referral for 3 weeks and then take a further week to commit a date. Consequently, only one eye could be done before the end of the year and the other eye was pushed into January. It meant that a surgery that should have been free to me (based on having reched my out of pocket maximum in 2023) ended up being a charge to me of $6700. I ended up not getting it due to this cost so at this stage only one eye has been fixed. Additionally, it is now 3 months since the surgery and I need to wear sunglasses and hat inside due to light sensitivity. Is that normal? I called the office but have not heard back. read more

Got Lasik with PCLI. I would say the actual lasik experience was fine, they ran behind schedule but were fairly professional and quick in the procedure itself. Everything else about PCLI was a nightmare. Every time I called them I would get a different answer. My optometrist found working with them very difficult, where they claimed they couldn't process my documents for a week to my optometrist, but when I called they said it was just their fax machine was broken and I could email. Every step of the process was contradictory and confusing, I would not recommend Lasik here. read more

A disastrous, cautionary eye surgery experience You should think twice before getting eye surgery at Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute, or anywhere for that matter - as the results can very adversely affect your life. Here's what happened to me... I was 63 and had 20:25 vision (which wasn't bad at all, since I rarely needed to use glasses except for small print on bottles). However, I had an early-stage cataract (which also wasn't very problematic), but I had the money at the time, and thought it would be a good idea to get cataract surgery and get a multi-focal lens put in, to get my eyesight to 20:20. So I went to Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute (PCLI) since they seem to be very large, high-quality Cataract and Lasik center. I remember the day of surgery, first the laser machine didn't start properly and after a number of tries (about 10 minutes) they needed to have me go back to the waiting area and reboot the machine. But then it was rebooted, and I was asked to come back into the room for the procedure. Ok, things happen. During the procedure, the surgeon seemed a bit anxious/agitated at one point when speaking with the nurse/assistance at one point about him getting something in place during the surgery. But in the end, he said everything went fine. I was sent home after a brief health check/waiting period. Post op I followed the instructions to keep the eye covered and make limited use of the eye. The second day the eye was ok but didn't seem quite as sharp as anticipated. After several follow-up checkups (since it takes a while for your eye to internally heal), the eye that had the procedure lacked crispness, they refer to it as a 'Secondary Cataract'. So they performed what's called a YAG Laser Capsulotomy procedure, aka a YAG procedure. Which is a laser treatment that basically punches a hole in a cellophane-like membrane at the back of your eye so light can reach the cornea. (Evidently this is a fairly common secondary procedure after cataract surgery - which is required 20-30% of the time.) The YAG laser treatment was innocuous and evidently went fine. Again, after a 30-60 day internal healing period, the vision in my eye was still a bit problematic. So, when I came back into the PCLI, when they finally mentioned that evidently during or after the initial cataract / lens replacement procedure, the lens (while in place, evidently rotated 10%), which was causing an astigmatism. Although they said that type of rotation was in an acceptable range. At that point, I asked if they could repeat of the initial surgery to get a new lens in the eye so that it's not rotated. At that point they told me that once you have the YAG procedure, the eye loses some of its support structure, so repeating the surgery to get a new lens in the eye so that is not in a 10% rotated position would not be possible, but they could perform Lasik surgery to address the astigmatism. So, after a number of months the Lasik surgery was scheduled and eventually performed (at no additional cost). After a period of healing and testing the eye the Lasik surgery did improve the astigmatism. However, frankly my vision in that eye didn't seem as good as it was originally was (which at this point I would have been happy with since my vision wasn't very bad to start). They claimed my vision was now 20/20, yet I somehow have ongoing blurriness in the eye that was operated on, and I really don't see as well as did before the surgery/procedure. Despite being told that my vision is better. So now it's about 11 months since the original surgery and that eye is always bloodshot (people always comment on how tired I look because of the redness), for the past month I've had a stye under the eye, there's still some blurriness, and a lack of crispness, etc. Overall, my eye is far more problematic now than it was before the procedure. And I wish they would have just told me when I first can into their office, "hey, your eyes are still in pretty good shape, we suggest you hold off on eye surgery until you have a more severe issue(s)" I tend to believe that the personnel at PCLI are competent, but the outcome, but the bottom line is that my eye is worse, and I did not get the results I hoped for. And in fact, my eye seems to be increasingly bothering me. (I'm hoping that it doesn't become worse/more problematic.) I wish I never had the eye surgery performed. I suggest anyone considering eye surgery at Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute (or anywhere for that matter), think long and hard about it. Unless you're having severe issues with your eyes, wearing glasses is far less problematic than risking creating long-term problems with your eyes. Bruce W read more

It has now been over two months since my cataract surgeries. My left vision has noticeably improved for night vision and distance, but my right eye, despite paying $1,750 more and out-of-pocket for the Torax lense for reading, was noticeably worse than before. Also, I repeatedly told them that I had LASIK surgery years ago, and my left eye was corrected for distance, while my right eye was for reading. To this date, they have been unwilling or unable to confirm whether they took that into consideration. On a broader note, I did not like the impersonal approach to their service delivery. During all my visits, I have had different people for various consultations, akin to an assemble-line approach. There were occasions when the waiting room was full with more than 25 people. The surgeon was somewhat rude and seemed rushed. The accounting staff was not only unhelpful but came across like debt collectors. The eye drops they provided, for an extra charge, was not covered by insurance, and felt gritty every time I administered it. I had a procedure done on my right eye and was very impressed from start to finish with the quality of care. Initially we were greeted by a very friendly check-in representative. We were then escorted to an exam room where my eyes were examined. When I returned for day of surgery, we were shown to a waiting room and preliminary procedures were conducted by a friendly, efficient technician. The wait was not long before I was escorted to a room, placed in an OR chair and the entire procedure took about 7-8 minutes. After some home care, my eye sight was fabulous! No more blurring. DO NOT GO HERE. DECEMBER 8, 2020 I had an appointment at 2:30 pm today for a consultation to have my cataracts removed on both eyes. The front desk receptionist was rude, mean, threatened me and said that if I didn't wear my mask appropriately, I would be asked to leave. She kept up this rude and egregious behavior and said that if I didn't comply with her demands, that I would need to go outside, in the rain and fill out the paperwork there. She was downright nasty and evil. She needs to be fired. I didn't get her name, but she was part of the front desk reception staff working alongside another woman named Cynthia. I took the paperwork and gave it back to them. I told them I had NEVER been treated so rudely in all my life and I wasn't going to be a patient of theirs now or at anytime in the future. I would rather be blind than to do business with these ungrateful arsholes. My husband had to take off from work to drive me since I can't see right now. This wasted his time, his company's time, my time and more of my time now to post negative reviews so that other prospective clients won't be blindsided like I was. Shame on this place, Shame on the OWNER. He knows about this because there are other Google reviews saying the same things happened to them. I should have done my research ahead of time, but I trusted Coal Creek Family Vision in Newcastle, WA because they REFERRED me to this Hell hole. I'm kind of glad surgery never got scheduled for me if the level of care I was going to get is reflected in my experience this far. A few people have mentioned assembly line approach, and I definitely feel that. I set aside three hours for my consult as instructed, but I was in and out of the office in 45 minutes at most. The video explaining the RLE procedure was super impersonal and I really didn't get to ask follow up questions. I did call back with questions and one of the techs was really nice and called me back, but things fell apart after that. I wanted a trial for blended vision RLE and got my regular optometrist to do that, but I wanted one eye set for distance and one for computer vision, not up close vision, and my optometrist said that was up to PCLI while PCLI said it was up to my optometrist. I've called several times and left messages to get scheduled, with no return phone calls. At this point, I'd have to get all new measurements since they have taken too long to move forward. A colossal waste of my time and energy, but in the end, I'm really glad, as I'd much rather go somewhere that actually cares about the quality of my vision. PCLI post operative care is none existent. I developed an allergy from eye drops post operative. The allergy has spread throughout my body and is very itchy. Tried to get some help from them and was totally ignored. I now going to a Dermatologist to hopefully get some relief. So don't expect any help with any post operative problem. read more

I just had cataract surgery and believe this is the most expertise place in PIerce County. The staff are very professional and very caring. I was very upset and nervous. Yet, they helped me with my anxiety and and concerns. I am grateful for their help. The doctors are top class and very kind as well as knowledgeable. I had had Radial Keratotomy in 1997 and have scars on my eyes that cannot be erased. These doctors helped with with the anxiety of the worries and I was amazed that I could see 20/20 in one after surgery and 20/30 in the very scarred eye. Horrible customer service! Would not honor their only posted price I found online of $1500 per eye. The fancy packet sent had zero mention of cost. After the $200 consultation the office still wouldn't tell me a price. Finally after booking my appointment they told me $1800 per eye. Then added a $700 "post-op" fee not mentioned anywhere on their site. Extremely shady business practices. Will not respond to emails promptly. They immediately changed the price on their website after I asked them about the $1500 per eye cost. Within moments it went to $1800, still with no mention of consultation fee or additional $700 aftercare. A total cost of $4500. I talked to another LASIK company and they offered $3600 for the entire procedure, consult and aftercare. Pricing was clear. I will be doing business with them. I had a great experience with my Cataract surgery. I liked the idea that several doctors could see me instead of being tied to one doctor so the check ups and procedures were done on my schedule. The receptionist and other staff were consistent and very friendly, and very accommodating. During the surgery the staff was gentle and helped through any anxiety. For me, knowing they have done hundreds of surgeries successfully was reassuring. The religious undertones of this establishment are very creepy and I was unable to identify the religious affiliation before I became a client. I cannot recommend PCLI and feel that I was treated differently because I was not open to being proselytized. After receiving the calming medication prior to my Lasik eye surgery, I was asked if I wanted the doctor to pray for me. This shocked me and felt very inappropriate for a medical facility. Not to mention, if a doctor needs to pray first do they really know what they're doing?! I said no and was then told the doctor would come out to greet each of us (there were a handful of us waiting for our turn for surgery, like an assembly line). I noticed the other patients agreed to the prayer. I then watched as the doctor went up to each patient, read their name tag, greeted them with their name, and asked if they had any questions. When he got to me, he just stared at me. He did not greet me, he silently read my name tag and made no effort to use my name, he just stared at me. I felt so uncomfortable that I was the one who broke the silence. He then asked if I had questions, I said no, and he left. By then I was thinking about whether I felt comfortable staying. However, the calming medication was working and I wound up staying. When I went in for the surgery, they instructed me to look directly into a red light. I told them I have light sensitivity and that I was having a hard time focusing on the light, but nobody answered me. This was a scary position to be in when my vision was at risk and the doctor was not responding to me. Finally, when I left they gave me a bag to take home. I was told it would contain eye drops and aftercare instructions, so I didn't look at the other items until I got home. It turns out they included a creepy religious novel called "The Richest Caveman: The Doug Batchelor Story As Told to Marilyn Tooker" -- you can google it as I'm unable to attach a picture to this review. The book summary describes a "riches to rags to religion" story where the protagonist loses all his money, winds up in a cave, and miraculously finds a bible. The distribution of this book is SO CREEPY and inappropriate for a medical facility! This whole experience with PCLI was so uncomfortable and inappropriate, it boggles my mind that I haven't found other reviews discussing the fact that this doctor is trying to proselytize clients without their consent. I believe I was treated differently for not agreeing to a prayer at a (for the people in the back) MEDICAL facility. If this is the kind of business Robert Ford wants to run, then it should be made very clear that there is a religious affiliation without making clients dig for the information. read more

Went here to get PRK from doctor Ford. I really enjoyed the environment there. It has a pretty homey feeling and they have complimentary coffee, tea, water, and snacks. All the doctors and staff were very courteous. On surgery day they even gave me a complimentary sunglasses and vest! Dr. Ford is courteous and comes out to speak with each of his patients briefly while they are in the waiting room. Did a bit of research on all the different laser eye surgery places: King LASIK, Sharpe vision, TLC, Sound Eye and Laser, Restore Vision Centers, PCLI, etc. Honestly it's quite hard to compare all the different surgeons to know who is better as someone who knows nothing about medical stuff and it's quite tempting when several of them offer discounts like $500 / eye off. But several things pushed me to decide on PCLI: 1) Experience - Many of the LASIK places have pretty new surgeons to the field. Each place will quote some 30,000 micro-surgeries, 80,000, even 120,000. But I found that Dr. Ford is probably one of the most experienced surgeons in the Pacific Northwest. He started PCLI in 1985, and was practicing even before then. PCLI has performed over 400,000 micro-surgeries. 2) Price Transparency - There are a good number of LASIK places that don't list their prices on their website. They sometimes offer various levels of pricing depending if you want to use a manual blade vs an excimer laser, custom or generic, etc. And they'll often quote the lowest price, which most people don't want. With all the best options most other places cost around $2100+ / eye. Some places quoted $3000+ / eye, but then say they offered a $1000 / eye discount right then. PCLI is super upfront about their cost and they only offer the best options with one simple single price. It costs $1500 / eye + cost of pre/post op care. One slightly special thing is they have your family optometrist do the pre and post op care. Which is nice if you have an optometrist you like. With my optometrist it cost me $3700 total for both eyes, about $1850 / eye, which is still cheaper than most other places even with their "discounts". 3) Reputation - PCLI doesn't advertise much. I've heard numerous radio ads from Restore Vision and King Lasik, but nothing from PCLI. And partly it's because they don't need to, it gets around by word of mouth. Talking to some optometrist friends as well as my optometrist, I had a few point me to PCLI saying they would hands down choose that place for laser vision correction. 4) Mission - Dr Robert Ford is a Christian and he founded PCLI with a strong mission and belief to help people guided by his Christian values, treating them as he wishes to be treated. My last one month post op appointment was November 27,2017 with Dr. Victoria Roan. While I am grateful that I was able to have both of my eyes done at this facility in October my last appointment was disappointing and a disaster. When time came to begin this last appointment I was taken to a machine in the open area in the hallway. The girl facilitating this didn't know how to run the machine to check my eyes so she nervously said after a few tries that she could also do this in the room so she proceeded to take me to the examining room. Once in the room I had several test administered by her. One test was shining a bright light into each eye and looking closely at the eye. She put the equipment so close to my eyes and for so long that my head began convulsing. She could see that I was having convulsions and she proceeded to examine the other eye with my head convulsing until I asked her what in the world was going on here. She said that she was a intern and that the doctor would come in and double check what she had done. I asked her to get the doctor. The head convulsions were causing me undue anxiety. Up to this point, I had received lovely service from surgeons and the many people that assist in giving us new eye sight. This last appointment was a real let-down. I would not recommend using Dr. Roan. Her handling of this situation was disingenuous. Her rudeness in asking me if I didn't like to help interns further their education and career was out of line. Interns that are not able to use the equipment properly and bring pain and suffering to the patient should not be allowed to use them unsupervised! read more
