I have been shopping at PC Audio & Video for about 27 years. I first came to the shop, when looking to create the best home theater I could afford. I was going to save money on a processor, since it seemed like speakers were much more important. Tim, the owner then and still owner now, was quick to educate me on the importance of processing in a home theater set up. He treated me well at the time and has always given me reason to come back for the same reason: quality and honesty. I have such a long history, that I'm biased. I like other shops, but this one I will never stop looking to first on my road to better sound and entertainment. Location: it may seem hard to get into the store, being right on very busy Pacific Coast Highway, but I'm in a wheelchair and have no problems with parking. I've done business with Tim and PCAV for 20+ years. They have done whole house installations in 3 houses. Their brands are high quality and reliable. Most importantly, their installation and programming are done very well and they are responsive when any tweaks or repairs are needed. If you want high quality AV and /or an audiophile listening installation, PCAV does both well. They will also give reasonable pricing so there is no need to go to a big box store. I stopped in this shop after noticing the McIntosh signs in the window. I was really impressed with the number of high end equipment setups they had on display and I was particularly impressed with the McIntosh on display. I met with the owner and described my current setup and what I was looking for in my next upgrade. He gave me lots of great information and showed me the gear he had. I listened but told him I would never spend the kind of money required without some type of absolute assurance that the new setup would sound noticeably better. He said - "No problem! Take it home and listen to it in your room, with your speakers". I took him up on his offer and brought home a McIntosh C2600 preamp and a MC452 amp. I conducted a very detailed and thorough study of my old system vs the new system. I was fully prepared (and actually expecting) to hear very little if any improvement- but that was not the case. The new system is on an entirely different level. I'm hearing sounds I've never heard from CDs I've played 100x. I love my new system. Thank you Tim and team. I love the new amp and preamp. My Linn LP12 hit the wall - first my tonearm cracked, and then a channel went out on my Benz cartridge. My San Diego Linn dealer closed shop a few years ago, and so I headed up the coast to seek help from Tim. He diagnosed the issues and set about doing very careful and precise work rebuilding my table. Long story short I now have a new tonearm, cartridge, and an adapted armboard. Everything sounds fantastic and he worked overtime to make everything looks nice as well. I'll be making the drive up the coast in the future for other audio investments, I'm sure! read more

I was a client of Pacific Coast Audio. I was happy with the install they provided of a new home theater system in 2019 sans the employees sitting around when I came home when they should have been working given I was charged an hourly rate, was slightly annoying then, but based on my phone call from the same employee today, felt i needed to mention it. But from a customer stratification stand point, they are not the best. I had chosen to have another vendor install a TV on a separate occasion. Since then the apple TV that is powering this not working and it was installed behind the tv in the wall (a frame tv set up). Well this vendor is either no longer or not wanting to come out. So I tried to ask Pacific Coast to come out. Instead of a how I can help, they felt its good business to give me a hard time for why I didnt call them, as they are telling me they are so busy. When I asked if they would come out. Adam tells me their policy is not to work on other installers work. That they only design new systems. I told them i would sign an agreement that would not hold them liable, but that was not good enough. So i am told that since other customers have given them a bad taste, that I will also do the same. That is frustrating to say the least, as I am not those people. So please know that if you want help, they will install a new system, but they wont go the extra mile to help out an existing customer who is willing and able to pay them for the service. read more

Dissonant at best Not many people have earned my disrespect but Tim and Adam at PCAV are two of them. As a person who values building relationships for the long term especially over high priced high quality connoisseur driven items these two have provided nothing but short sided, rude and curt "what have you done, (IE spent money) with us lately" tone to our interactions. All Tim cares about is chasing the next bigger better dollar. Which is unfortunate as I already am a customer with a Hi-Fi system purchased through them along with some base home AV items. My expectation would be to always be treated as a valued customer... There have been a panoply of examples that I will refrain from listing but my most recent experience, reaching out to them for help installing a new TV rack, (in which unbeknownst to them I was ready to discuss and make a deposit on some new upgrades and additions to my hifi system) they offered me an install date range, and then did not respond to confirm a time for over a week, (my reaching out three times via email and once over text with no reply) A reply finally came. No contrition to taking so long to reply, no friendly exchange or options, and then a second reply from them within minutes backing out completely; (Tim the owner never even texted me back). "Mark, we have to cancel our scheduled appointment on the 25th. We have large scale systems and deals needing our attention. We have to prioritize the larger deals per this economic climate, I'm sure you understand. If you don't wish to use us going forward, you're welcome to call around to our constituents and see if their schedules are more open." I would be delighted if a customer of mine reached out to me for anything at anytime, as I take pride in knowing my relationships are intact and thinking of us, in this "climate" or any climate... If I want to pull teeth, I will go visit my dentist. Oh, and Adam, you may want to use a dictionary more often... In response to Chad S review... there is no set guidebook for how to install an audio system. There are many different ways to go about it. Some are good and some are not so good. Asking another installer to work on a previous installers work is not as simple as you might think it's not like hiring a painter to paint over someone else's work. It's more like asking an Alfa, Romeo customer to work on a Mercedes. Some of these systems can get remarkably complex, and ironically, the simpler they are for the user to use the more complex they typically are on the backend . I have done install work myself not for Pacific Coast, AV, and often I'm doing stuff in St. Moritz where people from all over the world, bring their installers to do their stereo systems there. Similar a lot of people in California bring in their installers from other parts of the United States. It is a complete nightmare to try to work on Crazy system architectures - using some of their own homebrewed solutions, none of which you have access to any of the remote codes, software updates, or know what works or what doesn't work with something else, in the case of Chad , he probably has an older generation Apple TV, and unlike audio gear, the computer industry simply does not support items after a few years. Customers ask for APPLE TV because of the ease of use, but then 5 to 10 years . later Apple no longer supports the product. That means for instance if you have an Apple TV third-generation and you bought it about six years ago, it was near the end of its product cycle so if you can no longer open up, CBS News, and a variety of other apps, because Apple and CBS no longer work together to update it to work with that app in stream It's unrealistic for Chad S. to expect Pacific Coast AV to support a system that's been worked on by other installers, even if they initially installed it. Because they don't have any history of what's been put in there and the second installer might've changed things around so here's what can happen either : A. (Unlikely) They come out nothings really been changed. Things are solved right away, and everyone is happy . Almost never the case. B. Pacific Coast AV comes out charges for the service call ..thinks they can fix it. Spends anywhere from 3 to 6 hours troubleshooting. Maybe it works a little bit but there's still a problem with the work that the other installer did in between maybe he's wrote some funny code for a Crestron or control4 controller or whatever. Pacific Coast AV then leaves thinking everything is all right and then the next time the customer does a software update the whole thing crashes and the customer wants their money back. That's the reality for ANY SHOP working in some other shops work. That's why you stick with one installer - FOREVER for that same system. You do not ever mix installers. On systems or anything integrated. Could you imagine if an Alfa Romeo mechanic worked on your Mercedes and they did a couple patches here and there and then you went back to the Mercedes dealership tried to plug it into the regular Mercedes diagnostics but the alpha guy had written some custom codes somewhere? It would throw weird codes. And things that Mercedes would do that normally would fix it probably just make things worse. Most customers think it's like painting, "can't you just paint over it?" but it's typically nothing like that particularly when you've got to get different products, talking to each other from different manufacturers, there's no set protocol. The people that have the most enjoyment from their A/V systems typically have found one store that they trust, and understands the customer, understands what the customer is trying to achieve, and then does their best to fufill the customer needs. Flitting from one shop to another, mixing gear and installers is a recipe for disaster. Pacific Coast AV doesn't want to get involved with disasters because it just leaves the customer and the vendor frustrated and nobody gets what they wanted. read more

We first me Tim about 15 years ago. We both have business in cdm. We hired Tim the first time when we remodeled our living room. They installed a 50" flat screen, w/ surround sound speakers in specific locations. . All is working perfectly. When the rare problem does arise, he arrives to our home within the hour, ready to Resolve the issue. .. A few years later.... And Another remodel. Our game-room this time. So we hired our local friend Tim again. He was able to coordinate our desires for 3 TVs in that room, with a master remote. All TVs are equipped with their own directv box. Again, Everything works beautifully to this day. Tim also has extensive knowledge in sound quality and acoustics. I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with Tim Miner, the owner of this business. I had called him last year to inquire about a turntable and speaker wire. Instead of pushing to sell something to me, he really took time to understand my needs and help educate me. He even offered to stop by at my place to see how my system is working and then make a recommendation. No push. A year went by. I went to his store last month to inquire about turntables. He walked me through several options but quickly narrowed it down to a couple based on my music listening style, demonstrated them, and then sold me one. It did not stop here. He came to my place to set it all up, noticed that my existing Pre-Amp was arcing, and took it with him to get it fixed. He got his professional associate Dan to fix it and then to come over to my place and set it all up until I was completely satisfied. If Corona del Mar's translation is "Crown of the Sea" Pacific Coast Audio/Video translates to "King of Audio". This company is a fantastic "Soup to Nuts" outfit in the best way. Great brand names and prices and no pretentious salesman crap that I have experienced at other shops in Southern California. They can outfit your home audio system as well or better than any other, however, the real gem here is the vinyl knowledge. I have kept a decent collection of vinyl and at some point intended on purchasing a proper turntable and cartridge because I prefer the warm sound and overall experience. After giving them a call and a visit, Tim, the owner had visited my home and knew that I had a system put together, however, lacked a decent functional turntable. He let me borrow super decent equipment until mine was delivered and the cartridge was properly fitted. They do "in-house precision mounting" which is rare and hard to find someone to do it properly. I have a Sumiko Blue Point #2 and it sounds amazing, especially considering the price and value. I thought that I would have to have spent more for this kind of personal sales and service. I am no hoke or shyster, I am one Tough Customer, having spent my entire life working in sales on the road. This place is "First Class", however, can accommodate any budget with beautiful sound and great follow up. Tim Miner's Pacific Coast Audio has evolved into an audio oasis. Newport Beach and South Orange County offer little to audiophiles (outside of the annual Newport show). Fortunately, Mr Miner provides the space for listening to great equipment. I've gone to his store many times over the past years, but I've only spent about a few hundred dollars on parts and service. While Tim carries many lines, his focus on Wilson Audio speakers, Ayre electronics and Linn systems, while also promoting affordable Rega products allows everyone who visits something of attainable value. Perhaps more importantly, Tim works to satisfy customers over time. Recently, my old Linn Sondek turntable needed service. Tim invited me to leave it in his shop. After working on it, the technician spent hours tuning and listening in the showroom to make sure it was right. For $100 in parts, plus labor, the service was exceptional, without equal. I always feel important there. Most of the other Yelp comments focus on home theater installations. Pacific Coast's main focus is on high end audiophile equipment. I've found that most people don't know what that really means. Visit his store when you have time to pause and listen. It's not about boom, but fidelity, long-term enjoyment and honesty. Pacific Coast Audio acts as an integrity bank. Tim is forthright in conversation, fair in pricing; while at the same time he tries to help customers listen better. This is tougher than you may think.
