I signed up to take my kids to pacific coast pediatric after driving by and realizing it was much closer to my home than our precious dentist. We loved our previous dentist but Dr. Mekel filled her shoes and more! She is so gentle and calm and immediately made my kids feel at ease. My son is almost 4 and the last two times we visited the dentist has screamed during the entire exam. Dr Mekel took the time to play with him for at least 20 minutes to make him feel at ease before even attempting to look at his teeth and was able to complete the whole exam in a way that worked for him with no tears!! My kids thoroughly enjoyed the experience as are actually looking forward to going back! Her toys/toothbrushes are excellent too and a great treat for the kids! I reached out to this office on a whim and I am so so glad that I did. Their receptionist was so pleasant and accommodating-they were able to squeeze in a last minute appointment for my 2 toddlers. The experience was so personalized. when we arrived, they had my children's names on a board waiting for us. Being outnumbered by toddlers, especially on a dental visit, can be quite intimidating but everyone was so kind and eager to offer a helping hand. The facility is so clean, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and Dr. Mekel is a gem! She helped me so that I could be present for both of my babies. She explained everything and I did not feel rushed. My kids were comfortable! At one point, she even polished my daughter's nails (per my daughter's request and my permission) while I wrangled my youngest. I cannot express how much that meant to me. I just took my baby to Dr. Mekel to get his tongue and lip tie released. Her dental assistant and Dr. Mekel were amazing from start to finish. Dr. Mekel was very friendly and thorough during the consult for the tongue and lip tie. She took her time explaining to me what she was doing and what she was looking for. She was very patient with my baby since he needed a feeding during the appointment. My toddler and husband joined us a little after the consult started, so Dr. Mekel waited to discuss her finding with me and my husband once he arrived and settled in with my toddler. She explained everything in thorough detail and explained the importance of the release and how it can affect his growth from his feed, to his throat, all the way to his sleep and developmental milestones. My husband and I never felt pressured to do the procedure from Dr. Mekel, she just explained all our options as well as made sure with our insurance about coverage and cost of the procedure. We did end up having Dr. Mekel do the tongue and lip release. It was a quick procedure, and the doctor explain to us the exercises to do to ensure the best recovery and results for our baby. Dr. Mekel and her staff were also very nice and welcoming to my 3 year old toddler even though he wasn't the one being seen, they offered my toddler to choose a toy and croc charm for his croc shoes. That made my toddler so happy, which made our visit much more enjoyable. Dr. Mekel even personally texted and check in on me and my son to make sure we doing ok after the procedure. Overall one of the best dental experiencesI had. I would recommend Dr. Mekel and her staff to all my family and friends with young children. Incredibly pleased with our experience with Dr. Mekel. Our 18-month-old fell off her bike and cracked her front tooth. It was on a Saturday and she offered to see our daughter after her normal business hours of operation due to the timeliness of the tooth trauma. She accommodated us almost immediately, was so good at trying to provide a happy experience for our daughter (put on Miss Rachel, sang to her, gave her toys, etc.) and was patient with us while our daughter was in severe pain. Not only is the office stunning, Dr. Mekel truly went out of her way to provide a positive experience during our visit. Overall great communication and follow up, accommodating, understanding and actually seemed to care for our daughter and the traumatic experience we were dealing with as first time parents with our first major accident.
