I dont know why it took me so long to write a review. I've been bringing my kids to this dental office since they were two years old, and I can honestly say we couldn't be happier. From the very beginning, the staff has been incredibly caring, patient, and attentive to my children's needs. They've created such a welcoming and comfortable environment that my kids actually enjoy going to the dentist! The doctor is absolutely wonderful--always kind, gentle, and extremely thorough. I truly appreciate how everything is explained to me in detail, from the procedures to the insurance coverage. They always break down what's covered and what will be out-of-pocket before I even have to ask, which shows how thoughtful and transparent they are with their patients. The whole team is professional and compassionate, and I'm so grateful for the care they've given my family over the years. We've been coming here for years and we've always had good experiences. Today we had an emergency - my daughter cracked her tooth in half at school. We called the office and we were seen immediately. Thankfully the school nurse saved the fractured tooth and Dr. Camille Nishikawa and team were able to reattach the tooth!!! They walked us thru all of he next steps and things to be cautious of. My daughter was incredibly brave and calm thru the process, watched Monsters University. The doctor let her know if things got too painful or hot during the welding process to raise her hand. I have nothing to say but positive things about Dr. Holden's office! My girls ASK ME to take them here. This office makes us feel so welcomed and taken care of. Only one of my kids has received treatment and it went great. We left our previous office due to the staff wanting to strap her down but here at Dr. Holden's office it was a different experience/environment. They worked with her, they calmed her down, they put headphones on and they let her enjoy the movie. Before she even realized it, they were done. She chose a prize at the end of the visit and went home a happy girl. My youngest one also loves it here. The fish tank kept her busy and when it was time for her cleaning, they took us back and snapped a polaroid picture of her "1st dental visit" which we got to keep. Dr. Holden is the absolute best there is. I cannot recommend her and the office enough. We started seeing her when our now 9 year old son was 18 months old...well we now have 3 kids and all of our kids are huge dentist fans because they've had such positive experiences with Dr. Holden and her assistants. 3 years ago we moved from Manhattan Beach, however we still make the 2 hour drive to Dr. Holden's office because its exemplary dental care for kids with the best doctor around... our kids will not go to another dentist. Dr. Holden not only cares about dental health but she also cares about the overall well-being of each child she sees. She was super helpful and meticulous when our daughter had life-threatening food allergies---she and her staff made sure everything used was safe for her. She's also helped me after hours on many occasions. When two of my kids separately fell she would talk to me on the phone, review photos or FaceTime to determine what was needed. She has never steered us wrong. We are so grateful our children's dental health is in such loving and capable hands. read more

Dr. Holden's office is a gem in Manhattan Beach! From the minute you walk in, you feel the magic in this adorable place. The waiting room welcomes you with a beautiful aquarium and a game room. They even have turtles in the back by the patient rooms, in which my daughter fell in love with! The hygienists are so friendly and gentle. Dr. Holden is amazing! My daughter was so excited to meet and talk to her. She makes the whole experience so positive and fun! She's so knowledgeable and makes you feel at ease when reviewing your child's oral health. The front office staff is super nice, very informative, and incredibly helpful. Everyone we interacted with was attentive and made sure we felt taken care of from start to finish. The best part of the experience was when we went to check out. They have adorable walking animal balloons and a wall of toys you can choose from. Great service. Super high prices. Ask for prices before or you will be shocked like I was. I gave a previous review of one star saying basically service was great and prices were super high. Got a call from the owner who lowered price by 200 if I would take the 1 star review down. Even with the cost reduction I still paid almost double the going rate for cleaning. 654 dollars down to about 450 for two cleanings. Once again they did great work and were very nice. read more

Best experience for our children. If your child has a sensory difficulties, this office has got you covered. As soon as you walk in the office, you get a calm feel. They were playing a disney movie, the sound wasn't on loud, which is great. The office wasn't too bright, another sensory benefit. They have a couple of aquariums which was so nice to distract and relax the kiddos. They also offer some video games. The dental hygienists were amazing. They took their time, as much time as needed, to gain the trust of their little patients. They offer a variety of flavors to clean teeth (even marshmallow-can you believe that?!). As soon as our kids' teeth cleaning was finished, they got to choose between a toy or a walkable balloon. It's a great location for children who are neurodivergent. It's best to call ahead and make sure they take your insurance. read more

Surprising that my kids actually get excited to go to the dentist- who would have ever thought! Their favorite part of course is choosing a little toy from the toy chest which is very sweet of the staff to include that. They also like that they are able to get their teeth cleaned together at the same time with their room that has side-by-side chairs. My son is anxiety prone and had an unexpected panic attack kind of reaction the first time getting sealant put on to protect from cavities forming. As a result, this time when we had to come back to do it again Dr. Holden herself attended to him and made numerous adjustments to the process to help him tolerate it. She didn't make me feel like I was over dramatic and she took his situation seriously. I am beyond grateful to doctors like her who listen and accommodate. She's a top notch dentist from an expertise standpoint but she also understands kids/parents and has a great bedside manner. Seriously hugely grateful for what she did for my son today because these experiences go with them into the future and instead of trauma he's taking courage and the message that people will take care of him. read more

I just got back from my son's second visit to Dr. Holden and I can't say anything but really nice things - they are wonderful with kids there! The office itself is in the Metlox shopping/restaurant area. It's great because before or after your appointment you can play in the water fountain area or grab something to eat in downtown Manhattan Beach. The inside of the office is decorated all jungle so each room has an animal theme. There are video games, TVs and toys in the waiting area and TVs in each of the rooms. The way they approach the cleaning and checkup are great. They go at it really slow and work with your child's comfort level. My child didn't cry at all and he is 2! I was expecting this to be a very unpleasant experience but walked out pleasantly surprised. Everything there is kid oriented, from the decor, to the fish tanks, to the goodie bags, to the flavored gloves the staff wear. I highly recommend this pediatric dentist to anyone with kids! read more

Yeah we'll add a review that seems to align with many other negative reviews on billing issues. Why? it's because they don't have a single individual in the office responsible for the task. After 3 attempts by my HSA to send them a check this dental office couldn't account for payment and that they received the check. So it's the HSA banks fault and USPS but we were to blame if you buy their drama. The dental office has no unique or any invoice number to reconcile payment and they had our address wrong in their antiquated billing system from the 1990s too. Finally I paid with a cashiers check via certified mail. She tried making us the problem for the staff incompetence and lack of accountability. Watch out for Elva as she threatened collections to my wife over $98.00 and then she tried dressing me down on a phone call, nasty woman as she's no boss of us! This Janelle only responded after I sent letters to the office and tried telling me she was going to write off the amount as a courtesy but would expect full payment and would no longer submit claims to our insurance moving forward. No thanks with shame, insults, guilt and need to be right from her and staff. Great thing that Los Angeles is full of dentists that treat people and kids with respect! read more

Hands down Dr. Holden and her entire office staff is best in class. Today was my toddler's first time at the dentist and now she wants to be one when she grows up. I was prepared with ear plugs and a bag full of bribes and none of them were needed. The office has fish, turtles, soft lighting, great movies playing in all rooms, ice cream toothpaste, balloons, etc but the staff is so patient, doesn't force anything and Dr. Holden really knows her stuff when it comes to the technical part. Was fraudulently billed for services not performed. I cancelled an appoint for my son that was supposed to be in July, and was billed as though he had the appointment. Will be contacting the office Monday. If this issue is not fixed, I will be reporting the fraudulent charge to the California State Department of Health. read more

This place was so awesome when I made my initial appointment the receptionist sent me all the paperwork, I needed to fill out the night before so I was able to fill it out at home. Then from the parking structure I was able to call in during my appointment time to see if I was able to come in the office. We waited probably 10-15 minutes till my hygienist (Jamie) came to get us. Once we sat in the chair she was so attentive to my daughter. She explained everything thing she was doing. She even gave my daughter a mirror to hold and watch. Dr. Janelle Holden came in and examined my daughters teeth and let us know that we were doing a great job with brushing. Afterwards my daughter picked a pig balloon to take home as her consolation prize. Overall it was an excellent experience. read more

Back story, bad experience in the ER. Traumatized my then 4yr old child and would not let any dental professional in her mouth since. I am a registered nurse. 5yold loosened one of her tooth accidentally from a toy. Dr Holden was not available but was seen by associate doctors. Staff is friendly. Office is clean and welcoming. Knowledgeable and made my fearful child comfortable enough that not only an X-ray, she had a full cleaning done a wonderful hygienist Kristin. Accommodated and listened to all my concerns. Answered all my questions confidently. Most of all, my child wants to go back to the dentist for a cleaning. read more

My kids were patients of Dr. Holden's for 8 years, until we moved from the area. I think this is a fantastic pediatric office for children. Its located in the Metlox plaza, so there is metered parking underneath the building. Upon entering, cool animal print chairs, aquariums, video games, children's movies on the tv, etc. Thus, its very inviting for children. If that's not enough, there are many rooms with bright colors/paintings of animals. Also, after their appointment, they are offered toys. All the hygienists were very friendly and outgoing. My kids never complained about going to the dentist. Their office handles insurance very well. Never had any problems. Finally, Dr. Holden is very friendly and invested in the community. As a bonus, my kids have always gotten compliments on their teeth (even their new dentist has given them compliments). Because the office is so inviting, it can be very busy. One time, I made the mistake of scheduling the kids appointments over spring break. Never again. The office was packed and backed up. I'd rather just pull my kids out of school for an hour, rather than deal with that. However, the office is like clockwork with reminders and scheduling appointments every 6 months. I like that. Final note: I saw on a prior review that someone claimed that the office uses Nitrous on all their patients for cavities-Not True. My kids had a couple of cavities over the years and Nitrous was never used or mentioned. read more

Excellent pediatric dentist. The doctor always speaks to me clearly and concisely, is patient with regard to answering questions, and never talks down to me. I appreciate an easy demeanor from a medial professional. The dental assistants are always kind and patient with my kids, and my kids are usually happy to go, or at least never resistant about it. As a business they are very transparent with regard to costs, there are never any surprises and I never feel that they are recommending extra work or trying to generate more costs for the patient. One thing I will note: when I was first searching for a pediatric dentist I thought their costs were high (relative to dental work that I have had as an adult), so I called around to a lot of dentists in the South Bay. Someone finally told me that pediatric dentistry is a subspecialty, so that's why all pediatric dentists charge higher rates than those charged for adults. Okay, so that's industry norm and I can roll with it. The office is decorated in a way that is very friendly for kids and puts them at ease, making their early years experiences with a dentist comfortable, so that they won't be nervous about visiting the dentist later in life. I have seen that the office has implemented some virus-related protocols, such as limiting appointments and taking temperature before entering the office. Otherwise the patients are in individual exam rooms and are not really in the vicinity of anyone else besides the dental assistant and the doctor. read more

Dr. Holden and her entire staff are completely kid-centered and knew exactly how to meet my 3-year-old and 1.5-year old girls where they were and keep them engaged and excited - yes, excited - from start to finish. Some of the many details that are so carefully thought out: - Office decorated like a cool kids jungle - Chocolate-flavored toothpaste - Aquariums with fish and turtles - Letting the little ones hold a tooth mirror - Getting them excited to go to the "monkey room"! THE BEST DENTIST FOR KIDS!! My 3 and 4 year old actually enjoy coming here... how can I blame them! Even I'm entertained. I recommend them to everyone -Friendly staff that is excellent with children -"Nemo and Dory" in the aquarium of the waiting room -There's an Arcade behind the aquarium -Each room is painted with a jungle theme -The kids get to "go for a ride" on the electric chairs -They get to choose their flavor of toothpaste... cookie dough has been a top choice for my little people -TVs in each room... a great distraction technique when they dig for "sugar bugs" -And the visit ends with a toy or balloon!!! read more

They recently changed their policy and demand immediate payment or they refuse to treat your children. We've been long time patients here. The last couple time we were here they verbally agree to setup a payment plan with you and then don't honor it when you come to their office. If you don't pay immediately they bully you into paying. It's all very stressful and frankly embarrassing all while your child is waiting to have a cavity filled. Very sad and disappointing how this office has changed recently. We will be finding a new dentist office to treat our children. read more

There's not a single thing that I don't like about this office. Everyone on the staff is very friendly and fantastic with kids. There's plenty to keep the kids occupied in the lobby while they wait for their appointment: video games, movie playing on the tv, fish tank, turtle. I've taken my toddler twice so far, and both times we didn't wait long to be called back. It seems like there's a tv in every exam room playing a movie which is perfect to keep the kids occupied/distracted. And they will love getting their goodie bag and a toy when they're done! read more

This is my 3rd Review of Dr Janelle Holden and her office. Failure to Diagnosis/Examine: My daughter had a cleaning end of Feb. I mentioned that it looked like she had a cavity. The hygienist looked at it and said it was a stain. No X-Ray's and no doctor to take a look. Beginning of June the spot I'd pointed to 3 1/2 months before was a gaping hole because the cavity ate away at it. Thank you for being thorough in your examinations. Oh wait. You don't bother with those during maintenance cleaning visits. My daughter required 2 mini root canals and some fillings so I made 5 appointments scheduled over the course of 8 or so weeks. Dr Holden stressed, when she diagnosed these treatments, how time was critical in getting these done and any delay could have serious negative impact on my daughters dental health. Despite the aggravation from having my time wasted (see previous review), my husband wanted our daughter's fillings here. Since time was critical, so we continued. I communicated my complaints to Dr Holden back in June, but they fell on deaf ears. Naturally I YELPed a review of the negative experience. In retaliation, Dr Holden cancelled our appt and withdrew from providing treatment 2 days before my daughters 3rd appt. I don't really know what to say about the type of person who claims to care for their patients, but chooses to harm them in retaliation. I'm a bit stunned that rather than choosing the opportunity to correct a customer complaint, she'd choose to harm a 4 yr old child. Still no apology for their poor communication, which is the root of the complaint. Dr Holden's response was "delete your negative review or I won't finish". I guess in her mind, I should be so honored that she is my kids DDS I should do what she asks. I take further offense at her attempt to manipulate the YELP process. It's also worth noting, Dr Holden, NEVER treated my child. The hygienists do the cleaning, Dr Holden did the diagnosis, and two other doctors were working on my daughters treatment. I received a letter from Dr Holden this past week, once again asking me to delete my negative review. Suck it up Dr Holden. You aren't the jeweled prize you think you are. There are many many many other pediatric dentists out there. I went to you by a customer referral and the (manipulated) yelp reviews. Tsk Tsk Dr Holden. What happened, happened, and you chose to handle it selfishly. Coincidentally, I found one of those other wonderful Pedi Dentists and the 2nd mini root canal turns out to be only a filling, by diagnosis and confirmed when treated. One of those cavities turnout not to be a cavity, but calcification. Warning to current and future patients. Don't get sucked in by the fluff added to the office. They really do function as a mill. They want to maximize the number of patients in and out, so they can pay for their square footage. They use Nitrous on all their patients for cavities. They don't want to risk your child melting down and throwing them off schedule. They have a schedule and they will stick to it. Remember their time is important, so given the choice between their precisious time and drugging your child, they will drug your child every time. (Our new dentist got the cavities taken care of WITHOUT Nitrous and the procedure was much quicker for it.) read more

Dr. Holden is a very good pediatric dentist that actually cares about her patients not just about making money. However, we had a bad luck of botched procedure done by one of the dentists. Dr Holden had to redo this uncomfortable procedure to my child. If your kids need procedure done make sure you only get Dr. Holden to do it and not one of her assistants. read more

This place is amazing. First of all, the waiting room is beautiful! There's a huge aquarium and theater-style animal-print seating with video games and movies surrounding you! My husband told me he liked it so much that he's going to bring a book in one day and just hang out there and read and pretend that he has a child in having dental work done! Ha! Oh, and did I mention they have turtles!? :D Ok, enough about the cool aquatic life.. On to the important stuff. The dentist is awesome. She was really chill and didn't seem too concerned with the fact that my daughter didn't want her anywhere near her mouth. They were very cool about it. Our hygienist, Sabrina was also super cool. My child is terrified of doctors and nurses because of all of her hospital visits, but these girls did a great job of not pushing anything on her, and even gave her a turtle balloon just for coming in. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking to find a pediatric dentist. I have no doubt that after a few more visits my daughter will be looking forward to going to see the dentist!! read more

I cant not express how happy we are with the service received by Dr Holden and her staff. Children feel welcome from the moment they enter the office. Our hygienist, Ms. Matilda, was moving a tad bit fast for my son but was quick to respond and step back to allow me to talk through his fears. She respected my sons wishes every step of the way. Because of her willingness to adapt to him (and not expect him to adapt to the office procedure) we accomplished a full exam and cleaning without any issues. He loves janell Holden's office. They were gentle and talked him through the whole experience. Professionalism is HUGE in my book and every single person on staff is extremely professional. Older boy needed to have a tooth pulled. Janell called me over the weekend prescribed antibiotics and was so polite and professional. Unfortunately my new insurance does not contract with the office. We had to pay out of pocket and it was so expensive for 3 boys. If I could afford it I would SO pay out of pocket but we can't. Everyone was really friendly. The whole staff work really well with children and made my 16 month old as comfortable as possible. Adorable jungle themed setting with TV's, fish and video games to keep the kids occupied. Dr. Holden was great. She answered all my questions and did not make me feel rushed. She sanded down my 16 month old's chipped tooth so that it wasn't so sharp anymore quickly and easily. Of course he did not like it but she made him as comfortable as possible and they have adorable balloons and toys for the kids to take after. Reasonably priced and they don't try to sell you on anything. I am really glad I took up the recommendation from the moms in my local mom group; she was as great as they all said! Dr. Holden even developed her own safe toothpaste for the little ones, but again she just mentioned it and didn't try to push a sale. :) read more

Dr. Holden takes a thorough medical history and even personally spoke with my daughter's cardiologist before agreeing to examine her.
