I have been in residential property management for almost 30 years so I am constantly in need of maintenance and repair services in a variety of trades. Recently, one of my tenants in Vista had an issue with the garage door opener. I tried a few easy fixes that I have learned over the years but I was unsuccessful. Next I called the garage door repair service that I have used a few times and they came out and said I needed a new garage door opener. I was quoted $750 for a chain drive and $850 for a belt-drive. I know inflation has raised the prices of everything, but this seemed excessive so I went on Yelp and looked for another company in North County to get another quote. The first call I made was to Pacific Garage Doors and what I really liked was the installer (and owner) answered my call and took the time to talk to me about options. To my surprise, he suggested that I but the garage door opener at Lowes or Home Depot and he would do the install for only $250. I checked online and found a belt drive Chamberlain opener at Costco for only $199 so I ordered it and Dan did a professional installation. Our garage door basically fell apart. The cable was tangled and screws were bent. On one side of a panel, the metal was shredded. After a no show with a different provider, I was advised to contact a Wayne Dalton garage door certified company. Spoke with Dan and he walked us through what needed to be done so make sure the door is closed for the night. He confirmed after and the next day for when he can be out to take a look. We figured the garage door is not repairable but he was able to fix it. He didn't try to upsell but focus on addressing the issue. We asked for his advice on the state of the door and he indicated his repair should last for a year. We are thankful for his services and appreciate the upfront information. I had 2 broken garge door panels. First company I called sent a technician who told me that I couldn't just replace the panels because the door I had was no longer availble. This company also told me that by law I had to replace my garage opener because the one I had didn't comply with current state law. Besides the upsell which bothered me, different doors means I have to deal with my HOA. Then I noticed the Pacific Garage sticker on my garage opener and called them. Daniel was great. He had me text him the information from my doors and he gave me the option of replacing the panels or a new door. This was an exact replacement from the original manufacturer. Came home to visit my parents a few days ago, and the first thing I noticed is that our garage is not being used - upon questioning my parents, they said it's been broken for a few days because one of the spring/wire fell off the track and the door won't open normally. For the month of April (okay, maybe it was even prior to that) my garage door was making a clicking sound when it went up and unfortunately I ignored it. Then on May 2, I went to put the door up since I was heading to work and it stopped about 1/3 of the way up and made a horrible banging sound that shook the entire garage door and door opener unit. We had pacific garage door come repair our spring on our garage a few months ago. My husband called 2 other garage door places and we ended up going with Pacific garage door. Apparently our garage door had 1 very large spring and is an older garage door but they had no problem repairing it. He did it quickly and was able to change the spring to 2 springs which is what is done nowadays. He also gave me a heads up on my garage motor and it possibly going out soon. Hello fellow Yelpers, What a Friday! I had a liver biopsy done and our garage door would barely open. My wife had to drive and crawl under the door to unlock the front door. The front door lock was jammed on the outside. I could not lift more than 10lbs and was instructed not to strain. We checked and saw the left torsion spring had broken. We unplugged the garage door opener and disconnected the motor. We lifted the door and brought our car in. I checked Yelp and found Dan. I emailed him around 10pm.
