Over the last many years, we have used their cremation and chapel services for a family member and referred them to a few friends. Most recent service was on July 20, 2026. The facility is beautiful and their services remain excellent. The coordinators and their staff are very responsive and understanding. As always, the services went through very smoothly with able handling of all aspects. And a special mention of Endeliza Huerta, Funeral Arranger who was very understanding and responsive both leading upto and after the funeral for all our changing needs. read more

After what my family experienced, people must know how awful our experience at Skylawn Half Moon Bay was. My uncle handled all the arrangements for my grandpa's funeral and the communication from Skylawn was terrible from the start. They would not respond in a timely manner when he asked to confirm the location, the service date, and placement of my grandpa. But funny enough, they had no problem contacting him when payment was required. This lack of communication gave the impression that we were only prioritized when financial matters were involved. Even handling the death certificate was awful. My uncle was informed someone would call him when it was ready for pick up. He left multiple messages for an update and did not receive any response back. 10 days later, he went to Skylawn in person to ask, only to find out the death certificate had already been prepared from the beginning ready to be collected. This critical document required for time sensitive matters such as notifying banks and social security caused such an unnecessary inconvenience and headache during a difficult time. What really crossed the line was when he received a quote to add Chinese characters to my grandpas nameplate. My uncle simply said he wanted to discuss with the family and would let the agent know the next day. The agent sent accidentally sent my uncle a message clearly meant for someone else stating: "I won't be able to finalize...he has to again talk to his family this is a poor Chinese family" He never complained about price or tried to negotiate, he just wanted to make the decision together as a family. This message was shocking, offensive, and completely unacceptable. Our family was fully prepared to pay for additional engravings, flowers, and other services. Wanting to consult with family before making a final decision does not make someone "poor" and no family should be labeled or stereotyped based on their ethnicity. Losing a loved one is already hard enough. But being ignored, then finding out that's how your family is talked about behind the scenes is absolutely unacceptable. This sort of disrespect should never be tolerated and I hope Skylawn investigates this incident and provides a genuine apology to ensure no other family is treated this way. No one grieving the loss of a loved one should have to wonder what is being said about them behind closed doors. read more

Skylawn is the most beautiful Mortuary in the Bay Area!! It is also the only one in the Bay Area that has an onsite Crematorium. Which meant that we didn't have to have our loved one transferred back and forth between facilities. Bruce Nault II, our Funeral Director, was so caring and compassionate. We felt cared for as well as comfortable with him and his team handling my mom's body. We had a meaningful and emotional viewing of her before her cremation. Despite the beauty of the park (harsh weather aside), there were a few issues I found with my grandmother's service that left me puzzled with the management of Skylawn: - On our arrival date, a few of us overheard members of the service team arguing in Cantonese with each other. One had even gawked to another to "listen up and let them speak first." Coworker dynamics vary in any workplace but this should not have been in a space where guests and family members were present. - Our service director(s?) included two gentlemen: one that spoke English and one in Cantonese. I appreciated the English speaker for articulating the different components of the service but was confused as to why the Cantonese speaker either a) failed to translate or b) outright contradicted that he had just instructed the guests to do. This took place in every aspect from the flow of bowing to the deceased to how we moved the casket into the hearse. - Selfishly, I found it very odd that this same director kept speaking to my sister and I in English and everyone else in Cantonese, from using the word "bow" instead of the word "弓 (gong)" when we went up to pay our respects, to continuing to speak to us in broken English. Mind you, this was after I gave a eulogy in Cantonese and was the only grandchild to do so, and after I continued to speak to him in Chinese. Make it make sense. - We went back the day after to pay another round of respects to our grandma and saw they had placed all of the wooden easels with our flower arches right on top of the burial site... on their backs. Flowers were all facing down, all you could see were easels with cardboard on which the flowers were fixed onto, and it did not look nice. I understand if weather conditions made it difficult but I felt there could have been more care taken to make the site nicer than how it ended up. My family has been coming here for years to pay our respects to our passed on family, but doing a service here was not the best. Our family recently had another pass and their service was held elsewhere, and had a much better experience. read more

Yes, very sad to be here to visit a deceased relative grave site. However, the staff here made it very pleasant. They escorted us to the gravesite and was pleasantly surprised they were able to do this given his busy they were. A beautiful reception area when you check in. You can purchase flowers on the spot. We bought a plot at Skylawn years ago but never received the deed. When I called to check, they admitted they resold our space to someone else! For years, I have tried to fix this. They always promise to call back but never do. Even after the Cemetery Board investigated and gave me a direct contact, that person ignored my calls. I called the main office again, was promised a call the following week, and was ignored yet again. Absolutely terrible customer service and complete lack of accountability. read more

We were not prepared for this and needed to make burial arrangements from Los Angeles while grieving. Matthew handled our services from the first cold call to the funeral service and he held our hands every step of the way, including contracts as busy as they are. I currently reside in Arizona and am 79 yrs old. My mother is buried at Skylawn Memorial Park, and I am unable to visit. I recently spoke with Angela Ung , Family Service Supervisor and she promptly sent me a photo of my mothers site. What comfort it gave me. The vase I purchased is in the ground and Angela said she would make sure it is visible and would clean the case and then put flowers in. Her caring and genuine concern deeply moved me! He notified us of certain promotions on land and even worked into the night with us on finalizing contracts in order to satisfy our needs and budget. I'll have to come back to review what crap happened when my dad originally was supposed to be entombed here which I'm forgetting at the moment, but we were forced to pay an exorbitant fee for his headstone lettering (almost $3k!!!). April is a busy month for Chinese families annually as the memorial day usually falls in this time. It is a bit of a trek from the City so weekend mornings are probably the best time to visit. My uncle and aunt are here. Growing close to them in their latter years, an annual trip here to remember them is a must for me. Unlike most predominantly Chinese cemeteries, this is further south in San Mateo, near highway 92 to the west. Though I have their plot location section memorized, I always have a difficult time in finding their location. The nice part of this site is that it is on the quiet side and you don't get the crowds or rush of people parking their vehicles all over the place in varying directions. Another nice aspect is that there is a view on some sections of the cemetery overlooking the valley below ()https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Q1dC0TiwHBZOri40C_QI7w&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q. The grounds are well kept as I didn't see any random trash in the section that I walked. Nor did I see dead flowers or planters scattered around like some of the places north of here. Please take heed -- this organization has some significant issues, which may or may not have been rectified. My parents purchased plots here, my father passed many years ago, and my mother just recently passed. She believed that she had completely paid for everything in advance. - When I arrived at Skylawn, the mortuary and funeral personnel took me to room to begin the paperwork. It was clear that the mortuary person was very new and ill-prepared, as was I, not knowing what information would be needed (grand parents names and place of birth, both who died before I was born). It would have been lovely if they had provided me with a list of what was needed, so I had it. - We went through the paperwork, and I mentioned that my mother believed she had paid for everything -- yet they had no record of this, only her payment for the plot and grave marker. I told them I would look for the information, but did not want to hold up the cremation. - They did not show me any urns, and I asked for a plain urn, and for 10% of the cremains to be sent to me. - I asked for two death certificates. I was informed that I and my brother would both receive Docusigns to complete the process, and that we would receive these within 24 hours. I did receive the first document to pay the $3000 for the cremation, which I signed and paid. Note that throughout this process I repeatedly asked for the remaining documents we needed to sign, and was repeatedly promised 'they'll be sent today' but they never were. The next day, I found a letter, on Skylawn letterhead signed and dated by one of their agents, clearly stating that everything had been paid in full. I sent this to the mortuary person, and she informed me that this was probably 'some marketing thing' and was not relevant (!!!). I began to cc: the original person who had signed this letter, but found out weeks later that she was out on disability, though her email did not have an autoresponder on it, so I could not know. I then called and left a message asking to speak to a manager. I did not hear back. I assumed that the cremation happened on September 5th, which was the day they informed me that she would be cremated. Because they didn't show me a catalog of urns, and couldn't email it to me because it was too large, I ordered an urn online and had it overnight shipped to the mortuary so that they had something to put the cremains in. Three days later, the following Monday, my brother received the release for cremation -- with the person listed as Wong, Long -- which was clearly not my mother. I called again and finally got a manager to call me back. She assured me that all of the mistakes would be taken care of -- she redid the paperwork, but did not order the death certificates, nor did she reserve 10% of the cremains to be returned, both of which I had to ask for again. And, my mother was not cremated until a week after they had indicated. Finally, I informed her that regardless of the paperwork she may or may not have found in my mother's file, I had a signed and dated letter that would hold up in a court of law, and I wanted the $3000 back. They agreed to do so, but I am still waiting for the funds to hit my account. While I realize that some of this was due to a very unqualified person who apparently has been since fired, their record keeping and their responsiveness leaves a great deal to be desired. One final thing: it is customary for funeral homes to contact the Social Security Administration when a person dies -- Skylawn does NOT do this for you, so you must call them yourself. Also, if you want an obituary in the paper, you will need to take care of this yourself as well. read more

Wow... what happened today. I didn't think this was possible. Everyone was waiting on the lawn... about 50-70 people. I already knew something was wrong when it was taking too long for the casket to be above ground and all the old people just sitting around... Basically the casket doesn't fit into the hole!! *I don't know the exact details.. but i am fairly confident that it was not the casket that was ordered. I didn't ask the EXACT detail... but from lip reading and the expression.. it was more of a WTF kind of thing if u know what i mean. It's not my business so I will leave it to the family to deal with Skylawn. They were already under stress that their family member died!! Flowers are laid on the side and can't put into the top of the casket. um.... just feel very bad... Yes we have numerous family members plots here.. probably since the 1980s I think. I can't be sure.. but definitely the 90s... this is the first time I remember anything like this happening. Usually they have the casket and flowers... crank on the side and get it down on the ground.. no idea what happened today. Not sure if anyone believes me. I should post a picture soon. But also leaving you need to be very careful. When you exit the park... I think it's easier to make a right and uturn. The car in front of me tried to make a Left going towards CA-35 / CA 92 E and literally almost got hit by the truck. There are cars coming from both sides so it's really hard. I recommend making a right when coming out the park and just doing a quick turn U up ahead. Not sure if that's legal but at least I don't have to worry about being hit. There were two motorcycle cops right at the base of the Skylawn entrance sign... I wish they could have helped direct the traffic out. But maybe those were mainly for processions. read more

My dad was buried here yesterday afternoon after the funeral in the morning. It was a sad time. It was almost perfect yesterday. Had one big issue with the photo. Obviously Sandy Greene had no idea. Customer service is awful, I have been calling to speak to somebody about a service we had 10 months ago. I have left messages and no return call. The mausoleum is outdated with old filthy chairs and carpets, in the area with marble floors are cracked and dirty. They have new areas in the park and put no money into the older areas the carpets are 30 plus years old. The restrooms are back from the Sixty's like old school. And apparently they can't retain employees. read more

Our extended family visited the gravesite of a family member who is buried here. The grounds are well kept and the location is peaceful and beautiful. I wish it was easier to search for the location where people are buried. Having to wait for someone to look that up and drive us to the location has taken a while in the past. read more

It's strange to see the negative reviews, but I do understand that not everyone represents the entire place. We were so lucky. From the moment we met Stephanie and Elizabeth, they made us feel at ease. We never felt pressured. Everything was explained to us with compassion. The place is beautiful on the inside and outside. Super clean. Everyone we encountered were super friendly and understanding. We've never done this before so can't say much about value but given the reason why we would be here, price shouldn't matter as long as no one is pressuring you and no one did. Don't ever trust your loved ones to anyone in this business. My mom passed away January 26, 2025 and here, almost a year later (January 12, 2026) we still DO NOT have a headstone. The day after she was buried we went to see her, every single flower arrangement was gone - not destroyed, not eaten by deer just gone!! Like she never received any. For Christmas we put up a beautiful Christmas wreath, with tiny special sentimental ornaments on a wreath anchored to the ground - it was removed by Issac on January 12, 2026 , why? No body knows, even his colleagues said "we don't know it wasn't in the way." The containers to hold the flowers we purchase, and even those are broken and put back. Never have had any of these issues at Golden Gate National Cemetery where dad is buried. If you want to be constantly worried about your loved ones and how disrespected they are being treated, then by all means use Skylawn, where LACK of customer service is their moniker. Remember, it's been almost a year for us and still NO headstone for my mom - and for the record we have dealt with 2 "sales" people and one manager, tomorrow we are speaking with the director before we go to government agency that handles funeral facilities. I originally purchased my pre-need funeral & burial services in 1996 and made subsequent check ups over the years. One change I made a few years ago was to to be cremated rather than buried. The Family Service Advisor at the time said I could to that however would need to be a new contract as well as an additional cost over what I already had set up and paid for so I went ahead and did it. On my most recent visit and check up on the status of my contracts I met with another Family Service Advisor, Yu C. Bell Chan, who kindly & patiently went throughly through my contracts and found the cremation addition was not feasible since I already had my burial contract in place. I could only do one or the other. He took a lot of time, work and research with the back office to figure things out and why I was allowed to add the cremation contract. Long story short, Bell Chan and the back office provided me with a full refund of the cremation services contract in a timely manner. He went above & beyond in customer service and following up which I greatly appreciate. We even enjoyed a few laughs together while figuring things out. We laid our father to rest two weekends ago at Skylawn Memorial. The staff was so incredibly professional-respectful, polite and accommodating. We had the pleasure of working directly with Endeliza and Adela they were great under pressure and seamlessly orchestrated so many beautiful details from the viewing, to his actual resting place. With every step we took they quietly guided our every move. Exactly what we needed in a time of so much uncertainty they were a complete blessing! My mother's service was nine months ago. She was buried next to my dad, with a shared headstone (dad has been there since 1970). We ordered a plaque for mom's name and dates to attach to the headstone. I was told it could take 3 months to get it made and placed. That was nine months ago. I have been calling every couple of weeks for a couple of months wondering if it has been placed yet. I am told that "Kenny" is in charge of that project, and will call back. I can't get transferred to Kenny, and he won't call me back. This place is caring and supportive UNTIL they get your money. Beware if you want any after service care, they don't. read more

After 4 years! I lost count. Due to Covid and shutting down of businesses and shipment delays! The repair of the nicht outside is all done. After many phone calls and emails, all settled. Thank you, Yani and Anita! You got things rolling, and you were responsible for keeping me updated. But i still had to keep texting. What happens if there were no loved ones chasing the repairs? Would it get done? If i had to do it again, i would be scattered somewhere. This was emotionally draining. I had to be responsible for my loved one's memorial. Daunting. You might want to empty out your voice inbox for your clients. Wow, so disrespectful! Do better Skylawn! This notice isn't enough. To walk up to a loved ones grave piled up on their headstone all the loving things my mother worked hard to decorate for her daughter this is so hurtful and felt like our loved one was treated like trash. If you are going to in force your "rules" then enforce them across the board and not only when it's convenient for you to enforce them. A lot of graves we drove by had the same amount of decorations STILL up and ours just thrown on my sisters headstone like trash. The office knew since Monday it is now Wednesday you had more than enough time to reach out to us and we would have gladly taken down our belongings. Just like you send reminders for payments and when you do your monthly cleans you could have sent a notice out to pick up our belongings, not like this. This is extremely insensitive! We also have things missing that haven't been taken until today! Shame on you. I hate this place. read more

Morbid? No, just typically Asian pre-planning and an inability to leave anything to chance. Well, I've had reason to be there and walk the grounds. It's off the always busy 92 halfway between San Mateo and Half Moon Bay. A narrow, winding road leads you to the administrative building and then the expansion grounds. It spreads over 300 acres with several large mausoleums and large areas devoted to cultural communities. The Chinese gardens are huge with some of the family memorials are quite striking. Dear Skylawn Memorial Management, (Melissa and Steven) I am writing to formally complain about the unprofessional behavior exhibited by one of your family advisors, Olivia, during my grandmother's burial service held yesterday at 10 a.m. During what was an incredibly emotional and somber moment for our family, Olivia's conduct was highly inappropriate. Specifically, while my mother-in-law was visibly distraught, I saw Olivia fist bumping and smiling with the groundskeeper in the background. This display of casual and unprofessional behavior was both upsetting and disrespectful during a time when we were all grieving. To make matters worse, Olivia approached us with a seemingly trivial question about whether we wanted to keep the bag containing my grandmother's ashes. Her timing and manner were entirely inappropriate, adding to our distress rather than providing the support and compassion we expected from your service. She said that we could drive to the site but when we requested that we walk to her plot, she looked a little annoyed.  This experience has left us deeply dissatisfied with the level of service, professionalism and empathy we received. We entrusted Skylawn Memorial to handle this delicate moment with the utmost respect and decorum, and unfortunately, this was not our experience. We request that you address this matter promptly to ensure that no other family has to endure such unprofessional conduct during their time of grief. A formal apology from Olivia and a review of her behavior would be appropriate steps to begin remedying this situation. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. Mausoleum hours is posted as 8:30-4:30, yet almost every time I'm here at 8:30am they're never open on time. I called the number & 20 minutes later, 2 groundskeepers arrived to open the door, but this supposedly is not their job. I'm pretty sure someone from the main office is always supposed to unlock the doors. read more
