We learned about Soul Grind and were told all of our options since this was our first time buying a skateboard. We have zero experience. Like, nobody in our family has ever ridden a skateboard prior to our visit to this store. The shop is small but has everything any skateboard enthusiast needs. I learned that most skateboard shops are really clothes and accessories retail stores with a spatter of actual skate boards. Soul Grind has exactly what they advertise...Skateboards. With Olivia's help, and with much attention to detail, we chose a beautiful black board with red wheels. If you are new to skateboarding like we are and want to go to a store with a great selection of boards and even better customer service, you need to stop by Soul Grind. Founded in 2018 by San Diego's own Kellen James, Arts-Rec is not to be missed. Stop in and you'll immediately sense that this store, and it's associates, are connected. There's a rhythm and a beat to what they're doing here, and it's music to my ears. Shout out the whole Arts-Rec as a staff, a label, and as a mfin' crew.

After waiting for a while, I had to approach an employee myself and ask if they could grab my size. The employee said they would, but then never came back. I waited, looked around the store for several minutes, and was completely ignored. Eventually, I just walked out without buying anything. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time I've had poor customer service here. The staff often come across as rude, unwelcoming, and uninterested in helping customers. It's frustrating because I like supporting local businesses, but experiences like this make it hard to want to come back. I won't be returning.

Just happy to check it out for us and make sure it was safe. Not even a discussion about billing us for it. There was a recommendation for better bearings, which we took. James helped set the girls up with their boards, helmets, pads and he is always so knowledgable and nice. I was looking for a new board since I'm transitioning from a longboard to shortboard but don't…read morewanna jump all the way to a 5ft shortboard ya know? So for the past year basically, I've been researching and demo-ing boards cause I like to try before I buy. This past weekend I actually got to try some Torq boards and fell in love with the 7'2 modfish. I even saw someone out in the lineup with a beautiful blue version of it so I pulled the trigger. I had no idea how popular Torq surfboards were because I was calling shop after shop and the answer was the same "Sorry we're all sold out but the next batch coming in is XX date". I feel extremely lucky to happen upon this shop because what were the chances they'd have the exact BRAND, MODEL, SIZE, and COLOR??? Plus it was like one of the last ones (if not, the last one) in stock at the store. The universe has answered my wishes. The staff was super friendly and easy to talk to as well!
