I love this skate shop, located on 30th street in North Park. Overload has all the freshest urban looks, more aimed towards skate wear. They have a crazy amount of skate shoes and their Vans selection is outstanding. They have a pretty good selection of skate decks, trucks, and wheels so you can have them custom make you a skateboard on the spot. Their Adidas selection trumps any other skate shop I've been to. Aside from the great selection of styles, the prices are very reasonable. What's cool about buying shoes there is that you can easily tell if they have your size in stock by checking the soles of the shoes, showing which sizes are available. This is a terrific skate shop with great selection and a friendly staff. 5 stars! read more

They're too lazy to reply to messages. I asked about a specific shoe and size and was left on read. I went to the store and measured from the cash register to the shoe and was about 12 steps. I then looked under the shoe and saw the current shoe sizes in stock. I was so amazed at how lazy the workers and owner are they can't even walk 12 steps and pick up an 8 ounce shoe. I've been skating since 2002 and have been to skate shops all over the world and country and this is by far one of the worst skate shops in the world. read more

I was a fan until yesterday. Definitely felt discriminated by the kid in the beanie (shorter hair and blue medical mask). I came in at 10:30am yesterday just to check if there were any leftover pairs from the Jordan 11 raffle. The guy with the long hair was definitely helpful saying that they will be open to the public after 2PM. And the manager was helpful saying that sizes I need, they still have I come back at 1PM to wait, politely asking "Can I chill in here till 2?" Blue mask tried to be slick saying "Technically we don't allow loitering" In my head, I'm thinkin.. Loitering? Really? Obviously planning on spending $500+ + Whatever I find in the next hour.. Not sure how that's Loitering. (Mind you a gang of people were started chillin there after me) Anyway I start shopping around and everyone starts having a conversation about the Jordans and they clearly say 1 Youth and 1 Adult size per person at 2PM I hop outside, I'm first in line (Yeah I ain't hiding, you know who I am) At 2:20 they let everyone in and the kid with the blue mask is at the front. To my surprise they have a size 7Y and 9 that I needed. I'm like dope. They grab the 7 and bring it to the front - and the manager starts going to the back for the size 9 and the kid goes "Wait, should we give it to him?" And I said, "You guys said 1 Youth Size and 1 Adult size" He goes, "But it's case by case basis" Mind you having a bunch of people in the store and other folks waiting 1hr + probably irritated, I wasn't going to cause a scene. And I just leave with the size 7 1. Be a man of your word (Although he is a kid, still something he needs to learn) 2. Don't disrespect clients/customers and discriminate You guys can take this how you want. I'm grateful for the size 7y since it was a Christmas gift. My husband and I were walking around the area and decided to stop in here on whim since we had never been in. The store is exactly what I would expect from North Park. It is a skate shop that has some really great brands, especially in shoes. They had a good amount of apparel as well. I really liked a good handful of the shirts they had on display. The staff was kind and welcoming and I saw one of them helping a woman out with shoes and she was getting so much attention, I know that had to be helpful for her. I loved that I could get through the entire store with the baby stroller! When you become a parent, something so simple like that is so helpful and stands out to you. Went there this morning to try and get a pair of UNC and it was one per person, in store only. I dread doing these types of things because it's always a mess, but it was the total opposite at Overload! It was organized and they were well staffed for the event. Found this place scanning yelp. A lot of their fashion wear, especially the kicks I saw, peaked my interest. The store associate who helped me out was a nice guy and didn't mind letting me try on a few of the Chuck Taylors I wanted to see. The yelp check in saved me 10% (don't forget to check in and use this) and I walked out with a siiiick pair of Chucks. I saw a lot of other cool gear here such as jeans and sunglasses that will definitely bring me back. I couldn't remember a skate shop like this that was community friendly, sold cool kicks, and had that laid back feel since Willy's Workshop back in the day. Honestly number one thing that keeps me coming back here is the 50% off coupon that they give you every time that you go shopping. The employees are interesting and sometimes a little snippy snappy. They did this great 50% off shoe sale which was totally something that me and my friends took advantage of . Last week they had a sign up for this raffle for these new pair of Jordans. What is it I get a text message saying you won the raffle call to get your Jordans....I call and tell me to buy the shoes...??? Really stupid just the raffle so they can gather all of our freaking information.... Other then that I've gotten a lot of compliments on the gear I've gotten there... So.... The store owner messaged me to explain the raffle deal to me...Or in my case the reason for having a raffle in the first place for that particular shoe. Only so many of the shoes are allotted at a time for stores to sell. Overloads way of fist-bumping their loyal O'loaders was by giving us first dibs on a limited edition shoe, in the form of a raffle. As opposed to a first come first serve premier that from what I've seen never goes smoothly. OVERLOAD doesn't collect personal information given during the raffle or any other time, unless information is specifically stated to be used in that way, like an emailing list (which I've never been asked to be apart of) cuz IT DON'T EXIST... Discovered this place after going to a restaurant down the street. No-"hello", no-"welcome", no-"do you need any help?" Just stares... My wife's a sneaker head and is still finding her SD shoe spots, so we were excited to find a new spot. We waited and looked around for a while and still nothing. We wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, because the employees could have been busy, but we were the only customers in the store at 8:30pm tonight and we could hear the non-work related conversation. Still just staring at us, I looked at items closer to them and nothing. The size of the place is about the size of a studio apartment so you weren't going to miss us, but I guess they had better things to do than to make these two particular customers, their only customers, feel welcome. We definitely won't be back. I promise that! There are just way too many other stores that value customer service and retention, including: Blends in (Downtown San Diego), a consignment sneaker shop called Rosewood (on Market, Downtown) and Shiekh Shoes (North County Fair). Super impressed by the customer service at all of these stores and wealth of shoe knowledge of the employees at Blends. Kudos to those that had better experiences, these particular employees may not be an an accurate representation of the entire store. However, I won't be risking the discomfort again. When I'm in North Park, I enjoy popping into this store to have a look around. I don't skate but I don't feel like I have to skate to be in this store. I like that they participated in the art night (they featured a local San Diego artist who displayed his work around the store and I was able to talk to him about his work, which I thought was pretty awesome!). Every time I've gone into the store, I've ended up buying something. They have awesome clothes and shoes. I found the coolest socks for my friend. I've also bought shoes and shirts there. My favorite shirt is the one of the little dog that is in the store most of the time. Even though I'm not part of the skating community, I've never felt like I didn't belong in the store. The guys working can be kind of aloof but they notice when I need help and will ask if there's anything I need. It's a skate shop, they're just chill dudes, which I don't mind because they don't pressure you or hover or anything, which I prefer. I'm sure that they know their stuff when it comes to skateboards or anything else skate related, but even if you're not a skater, still stop by to see the merchandise and especially to check out the little dog in the shop! read more

I can't say enough great things about the staff at this shop!! We came in on Saturday (10/10/2020) and bought new decks for my kids. All the guys were super helpful and said we could come back on Sunday and they'd move the trucks and wheels over from the old boards for free. Boutique Skate Shop at its Finest. So I went in here for a simple set of bushings and a new king pin nut for my trucks and came out with nothing. The shop is set up really nice compared to the way the old shop was, and there is a lot more space. The shop has a very boutique feel with very fancy one-off style skate shoes as well as a small selection of decks and trucks. There is a ton of clothing and shoes here which makes me think this is designed for the fashion conscious skater. Bottom line is that they did not have any bushings (this is a skateshop for Pete's sake) and they did not have any kingpin nuts. I went a few stores down to North Park Hardware and got half the things I needed. Next time I need a new skateboard related item of clothing (which will probably be never) I will make sure to go back to Overload. read more

Once home he didn't like how they looked (happens often with giant shoes) I go to return them and learn my receipt shows their no return policy. Guy at register gets me store credit and offers to order his size in other styles. Once I brought my husband in to do so its not an option. So I got shoes for myself to use the credit. 20% off store wide for Memorial Day, included socks to get close to the $50 credit, only got to $48 something and was given no receipt, no change or remainder on the gift card. Over the years, I have had nothing but positive experiences here and customer service has always been friendly and accommodating. However, I just can't help but respectfully disagree with the entity in which this store has become. What used to be a skate-focused shop has now become more of a fashion-centric boutique. In the past, I have seen a lot of skateboard related materials (decks, tools, trucks, hardware, etc.) in store but that selection seems to be minimal now as the majority of the store is comprised of various clothing. Even on social media, I couldn't help but notice that Jordan's and North Park branded clothing are being promoted more heavily than the actual skate items themselves. I understand the landscape of skateboarding as well as the neighborhood in particular has changed over time and adaptation is necessary. I just simply feel this adaptation that took place seemed too rushed and as a result, the store's genuineness and the identity of skateboarding has been lost somewhere in those boxes of Jordan's. Overall, if you are looking locally for street wear, this and especially The Freshyard is the place to be. For skate-related needs, I suggest you look elsewhere. read more

North Park has definitely turned a new page. Between Ray at Night, the intriguing street art, a slew of hipster bars and a fresh skateshop, North Park is no longer the seedy underbelly it used to be. The layout of this shop is rad. It's narrow, focused and streamlined. I've been to several Hanger shops where you could get lost in all the excess. Less is more and everything in Overload looks as if it were hand picked. I've always been a sucker for skate shoes, and the Nike display was practically glowing. I spoke to Aaron and he was friendly and had a very welcoming vibe. He even threw in free hardware and stickers for me. This is a shop I will definitely support! read more

Best place for shoes In the area. great deals on skateboards, accessories, and gear. They have a lot of brands that can be hard to get ahold of and they sell Jordan brand releases - they have raffles that end Friday and are a lot more fair than most other shoe stores. Every purchase you get a buy 1 item get 1 50% off that can be crazy useful. Sometimes they have a selection of Jordans, Nikes, and other shoes that are sold out most places.
