I was looking for a new board since I'm transitioning from a longboard to shortboard but don't wanna jump all the way to a 5ft shortboard ya know? So for the past year basically, I've been researching and demo-ing boards cause I like to try before I buy. This past weekend I actually got to try some Torq boards and fell in love with the 7'2 modfish. I even saw someone out in the lineup with a beautiful blue version of it so I pulled the trigger. I had no idea how popular Torq surfboards were because I was calling shop after shop and the answer was the same "Sorry we're all sold out but the next batch coming in is XX date". I feel extremely lucky to happen upon this shop because what were the chances they'd have the exact BRAND, MODEL, SIZE, and COLOR??? I went in here recently looking for a very specific part for my skateboard. I was surprised to find that they had the item I was looking for in stock, but in the wrong color. Otherwise I have no complaints about this place. To me the customer service was extremely lacking. I called on the phone in advance to ask whether I can come in to get my snowboard binding installed. I specified the type of binding and brand of board, and asked them to make sure. The guy on the phone gave me his words that he could. I drove over here at 5 pm when it was raining, the freeway was congested. I was carrying my snowboard and binding, hopeful that they could help me. Then I came in, 10 mins after our phone call, the other staff told me to wait. One guy was nice enough to help me and direct me to the waiting area. Then later another guy came to tell me that the guy on the phone had a family emergency and left. I couldn't help feeling upset since I asked him to confirm and he said " I will confirm right now so you won't waste your gas." Then proceed to leave within 10 minutes, which essentially did waste my gas and time. Also if you did have an emergency, you could have told the others at the store to give me a call back. And lastly, no one made an attempt or try to help, one guy told me "technically no f you didn't buy from us we can't help you." I wish this information was specified before I came here. Overall, one star just for the guy in the black beanie with dark skin who was nice and helpful, that was it. read more

This place is so super savvy to the non-surfers of San Diego. I found Wavelines via their great Yelpers; even though the raves were mostly for their skater side of the house, I still thought to give them a try and couldn't be happier. I decided to get my husband a surfboard for Christmas, as he's been wanting to graduate from the foam to the formidable for a while. Not really thinking this gift through (realizing too late that boards are so personal, it is near impossible to select one for someone else--like buying prescription contacts). That's where the pros here stepped in. I talked to one of the reps for probably 45 minutes about different options and he asked me every question about my husband he needed to know to select the most perfect board (luckily, I passed at 90% knowledge rate)! He never acted rushed and made sure I had everything necessary to jump right into the water. I cannot recommend Wavelines enough. My husband called to find out if they had (in stock) a item that our son had wanted for Christmas. The person said yes, and so he drove over right then. When he got there, they DID NOT have the item. You would think that the employee would check before someone drives out of there way to support a local business. Had a great experience. Took my 12 year old who is new to skating here for some advice and wheels. The teen who helped him was kind, helpful and patient with him. He took the time to show him all the different skateboard parts and do some adjustments to his board. We bought some new parts and he put them on for him. Very cool place. I always pass by and never stopped by to check it out until I was looking for a winter jacket for the snow (had one until it completely ripped). They have everything you would need and they have a huge selection of winter gear for the snow here as well snow boards. Usually shops like these are expensive, surprisingly this place always has stuff on sale and good prices. 5$ for membership plus you get a free shop tee when you sign up = worth it. Good place for all your surf needs. Tons of merchandise for men, women & children. I love that they carry a lot of surfing brands including other active wear brands as well. Last stop for us here was during their sidewalk sale on Labor Day weekend. We bought 2 pairs of board shorts, surf wax, sunglasses and a small ding-repair kit. I like going to Wavelines because they are a small business and they have a membership program which is a really good value and can be worth it even if you only shop there a few times a year. They have a good selection of boardshorts and shoes, a HUGE selection of surfboards and glasses, watches other misc items. My only complaint is the employees are kind of rude and they dont offer help to their customers no matter what. Ive been in there probabaly 20 times and have only been helped 3-4 times. I have been in this area for 16+ years and so has this shop. It has always been my go to place when the kids needed slippers. They have the best selection for kids!! I also buy most of my slippers there. Only one time there was a manufacturer defect in a pair of slippers I bought but they were happy to exchange them for me. I've been shopping here for over 20 years. Went in yesterday for a new deck and its just as great as its always been. Prices are reasonable, decent selection(except for the skate shoes. Only 2 brands to be had, disappointing and way different then back in the day although the skate shoe industry seems to be quite different now then it was back then) and helpful staff.
