Today he…read morereturned to purchase sneakers and work boots and was walking thru an isle when another man verbally abused him for walking around his girlfriend. My husband was nowhere near touching her and was verbally abused and left the store immediately afraid for his safety. We put a call into the manager, a man named Kevin but our phone call was not returned therefore we will be letting our family and friends know this is not a safe place to shop. The employees in the store apologized but did nothing when this encounter occurred and only apologized when my husband exited the store. Downtown New Bedford is no longer a safe place to shop.

You would think he was planning his own wedding, as he didn't take into account ANYTHING we wanted. We went in having a vision, and knew what we wanted for our groomsmen. The only thing we weren't 100% on was how we can utilize the color scheme to have my fiancé contrast the others without looking tacky. By the time I left and come back to check on them we went from a sleek black and red look to white and black paisley!? It was atrocious, and he kept trying to sweet talk us into designs that he thought would be best, that did not fit the vibe of our wedding at all. I was politely vocal about not being into the styles, and he dismissed me, and said I am too laid back so I don't really know what I am talking about. We had women who were being fitted for suits. The (same) person measuring them made them incredibly uncomfortable, and repeatedly pointed out the fact that they had female anatomy that was making the process "difficult" for him. In the end my fiancé did not purchase a suit here for this reason. Not to mention, in the end after all the upselling and "must haves" - a pretty basic custom suit somehow was going to run us nearly $3,000 for something that would only be worn once. I would never see myself paying this at a chain retailer- especially for a suit that was almost the opposite of what we wanted. Needless to say we chose to receive a refund and take our business elsewhere for those that were fitted for suits that day.

To be honest, they seemed to know what we were looking for better than we were! So we gave them an idea and they took it and ran with it. Luckily, we came on the weekend when they were having a pretty significant sale across the store. The price was right for us to get custom made suits. We were told that they would arrive in 4 weeks and we got them in 2.5-3 weeks. The colors they helped us put together along with tie color choices were exactly what we were looking for. We would wear dark suits and the rest of the wedding group would wear bright colors. The suits they measured for us fit like a glove and will be something I can use over and over again. This awesome little shop is located right on the craziest tourist drag in town, Thames Street, but don't let that deter you from coming in for some rad beachwear finds! They have a great selection of men's and women's swimsuits and apparel, as well as accessories for the surfer (or wannabe surfer) in all of us. I was very impressed with the sale section, as well. My boyfriend got a really cool multicolored pair of swim trunks for only like 20 bucks marked down from 45 bucks. Not a bad deal! The selection is much smaller than Island Surf & Skate, but you can't beat the easy walking access as it is part of a section of town with lots of shops and attractions. Ellis, the employee that was working, provided excellent customer service, and was knowledgeable, pleasant, and all around made the experience of shopping at Breakwater Surf very much worthy of a 5 star review!
