Cool shop! Nice selection of boards and a wall of paddles. I already have a board but wanted to get some ceiling racks for storage. I messaged the shop and within a minute someone responded. YES, they had the racks I wanted in stock. Drove over, and there were plenty in stock. The place was busy with people buying boards and checking into rentals, but the crew in the store handled it. What was nice to see, and what will get me back in the store, is that they had a lot of the other stuff you need or want to go along with your SUP. Anyone can tell from Mike R's response to the previous review that he is one hell of a guy. My experience with PaddleSurf is something I would call AWESOME. FRIDAY AFTERNOON - I was looking for a good deal on a paddleboard, not something cheap but something nice and well made with a good price, and after Googling for a while I found the board that I like in the PaddleSurf website. I loved the fact that they offer live assistance through chat and that is where my AWESOME experience began. Mike was very informative and he knows his paddleboards well. He answered every question I had and anything else that I forgot to ask was answered promptly through e-mail. So, I finally I asked and he gave me an AWESOME deal. The only problem with that is I had to check with my better half before I commit to a purchase so I told him I will get back to him and he wished me luck. :) SATURDAY - On our way to a Hula Festival, right before we left. I got back on with Mike through chat on their website to let him know that I got the green light. He kept his deal and threw in a little bit more, I gave him my card and I am set. SUNDAY - I realized that the paddle I ordered with the paddleboard is not what I really wanted. So I wrote him an e-mail to let him know what I want. MONDAY - Mike responded to my e-mail to assure me that everything is fine including the change in my order and they proceeded to process my order and cut the paddle. I received an invoice through e-mail and it was followed by an e-mail from Adam to let me know that my board is on its way to me. TUESDAY TODAY- Right before I took my lunch, I received a call from our receiving department that I have a huge box waiting for my signature. It was my board, delivered overnight, FOR FREE. Opened it, inspected it and everything was there in order. The board was more AWESOME in person. I had a small issue and Mike just offered a replacement right away. I researched boards for awhile and liked the styling of the Vesl boards. After comparing with other brands, I was attracted to the blend of price, weight and options that they offered. We drove up to Costa Mesa from Encinitas to pick up boards. They were super helpful and honest setting us up with a pair of boards. I originally wanted the touring board but Jeff steered me away from it. He thought that 12'6" Barracuda would fit my needs way better. It seemed like way more board than I wanted but after paddling on it for a couple months, I couldn't be happier! My girlfriend really likes the light weight of the boards. Excellent service here. My boyfriend bought a SUP board and paddle last year from here. He ended up getting a Quickblade paddle and gave me the one that came with his board. They were so kind to not only size the paddle down to my height/arm length, but also didn't charge us for it for the work. It's a really nice VESL paddle too! My husband and I wanted a stand up paddle board and we did not have muvh luck finding the right board at the local surf shops in Hermosa and Redondo Beach. Went in to look at the Quickblade paddles, which are somewhat difficult to find in a shop, so was a bit nervous not being able to talk to other shops and getting some more information. I already had a paddle, but the blade was a bit to small, and was meant for a lighter person. I did do my research on the web, so I had some idea what I wanted, so I kind of tested them. When I walked in I was surprised how friendly everyone was. Usually going into a specialty sports shop, they can be a bit snobby, but these guys were very welcoming. I mainly harassed Jeff, and told him that my paddle blade was a bit to small, and I could really not move the water with it, no power and what would he suggest? He took a few paddles down and explained the differences of the various paddles. How some flex more than others, and some weigh a few ounces more than others. I told him what I had, which is made for a gal who doesn't pack as much poundage as I do. Some how the weight issue came around, but I initiated that info, and he was relieved. So, brought my very 1st paddle in, and the second paddle is the one with the blade to small. We decided with my type of paddling, to go in the middle. Next was the height. He measured me and remeasured me and again remeasured me. I thought I was at the doctors office :0) I am glad there was not a scale. The 2 paddles I had, which I brought in also, came out to the height that I was measured, so he was a good measurerer. Used it today, and I was in heaven. I had a really bad experience here. I bought a coupon from LA Deals and called up Paddle Surf Warehouse to do a paddleboard rental with a friend. We asked on the phone not once.... but TWICE if there was anything we needed to bring with us before going. We were assured that all we had to do was show up. Well, we show up to the place, which is on 17th St., and they say, "you don't have a truck?" No, we don't have a truck. They have no way to get the paddleboards to the ocean because they are on 17th St. One would think it would be mentioned somewhere on the LA Deals website or by the customer service "dude" when we called that a truck was necessary for rental. He offered that we could come back another day when a truck might be available. We declined and asked for a refund of our money. He informed us that we could not get a refund because we had bought through the LA Deals website. So now we are out the money we spent to rent the paddleboards as well as half a day to drive down there and back. Avoid these guys and rent from somewhere else! read more

OK...PSW is an AMAZING place...great customer service, honest and helpful expertise, complete accessory inventory with great competitive prices, high quality boards at some really great prices and the customer service is one of THE BEST I've experienced..... My husband and I live close to PSW on the Balboa Peninsula right on the bay and behind the beach. We had rented some SUP boards about a month ago in The Fun Zone and we just looooooooved the experience. It gives you a very deceivingly full body workout...that seemed like more 'fun' than 'work'....you can get into all the little areas in the harbor to check out boats, sea lions, see the seagulls on the buoys, pelicans hanging out....etc....fun to explore and get a workout at the same time. Given where we live...we figured we might just want to take this up and utilize our surroundings! I started researching about the kinds of SUP boards and thought I'd found some I wanted to purchase after a few weeks. Then, later one week we had gone to Trader Joe's and saw a sign for a board sale at the Costa Mesa PSW across the street. I swear we've passed the PSW probably a ton of times and never checked it out. We went in to PSW and WOW...what an inventory they have...nice high quality molded boards, some high end, some price point with same amazing quality.. all kinds of things that would satisfy any type of customer. I had priced some accessories and PSW was about $20 less than another place nearby on some roof racks, more reasonably priced on the EZ Plug kits than the Internet and I'm sure more..... Not to mention the really nice guy who was at the store at the time who helped us with dumb questions like 'What is this on the board?' We found out it's a vent plug....duh....and other stupid questions he answered for us and not once, not ever, did he make us feel stupid. (Later we found out this was Michael Roberts...AWESOME guy!) Now, just because I did a little research doesn't mean I'm an expert by any means. Thank goodness for PSW. We had perused the store...me falling in love with a couple boards but thinking these other boards I had in mind were just what we needed. I kept thinking about these boards at PSW and comparing them to the 'others' I thought we were going to get....and then I decided to look at the PSW boards online again and did the live chat. They were offline at the time, but guess who emailed me, Michael Roberts. He had no idea we were the couple in the store the week before until we started chatting more. Michael was very attentive, replied to emails at hours one would not think a reply would come (even like after 9!) and he really explored what we thought we wanted, what we would use the boards for, what size we wanted and why, what weights we were looking at ie having dogs on the board, only us, etc (and very polite about it too :) ), flat water, surf, etc.....and then he suggested a waaaay better quality board than what I thought we were going to go with...and get this...the pricing was even better!!! So....better board for what we wanted to use it for, specifically for our height/weights, etc dogs or not lol, and better pricing??? And then.....I was even able to get one of the boards I fell in love with because of it's looks as well as quality :) Yay! Sure this is a long review...but it's totally the experience. I wanted a specific color in my board and the Dana Point store has it so it's coming in next week. My hubby's board has a few at the store (hope they don't sell out with the amazing sale!) I am SO excited we found a local guy to purchase from. We like supporting the local guys. When I read the other review to find out it's a family owned business....my hubby and I were even happier to be supporting the business. We can see that PSW is going to be a place that is our 'go to' for anything we need. Plus, being new to this sport....you don't feel like a dork asking questions:) We went in on this Sat the 12th to see Michael and firm everything up. Lots of folks know and come to him in that store.......and we love seeing that with our local guys :) I hope the guy who left the bum review reconsiders and takes the rental on a place on the water that PSW coordinated....it's worth the experience for SUP and definitely give PSW another chance. The low rating is not due to the service or the guys. The guys are good guys and treat you like family. My issue is with the last Vesl sup I bought from them I believe it's a 180 model. I bought it used. I know the guys at vesl checked it out and deemed it water worthy I checked it out and found no issues with the board so I bought it. Less than 3 months of surfing this board it developed a giant delam bubble in the deck board is unusable. No water in it just a big bubble. I've had no problems with the other 4 vesl boards I've owned for years . Just the 180 I take good care of my boards I still have my 1st caster log so it wasn't lack of care. Just poor product from China. If you're going to sup surf find a vesl board that has a stringer in it. No fun to pay a bunch of hard earned money on something that in 3 months turns into junk taking up room in the garage. Just so you know I'm not the only one that has had problems with this board. Vesl shop up in Santa Cruz changed their stock said last batch of 180 boards was really bad. read more

It was hard to assign a rating. The folks at Paddle Surf Warehouse are nice, and they are cooperative. So that part is 4 stars for sure. The problem I had was the product description, which was very misleading. I bought the VESL SUP after doing a lot of research. I had some very specific goals. From experience I knew I needed something close to 150 liters (I weigh 180lbs) and wanted the board to weigh in at 20 lbs. or less (I do a lot of schlepping up and down cliff trails and beach access stairways). The VESL 9'4" was supposed to be 148 liters and 20 lbs. Not quite 150L, but close enough. And the weight was perfect! In theory. In reality, the volume is 143 liters (as written on the stringer) not 148L and weighs just under 22 lbs (just the board, no fins or leash). So the board was described as having the flotation I was looking for, and a good volume/weight ratio - light weight for the size (due to light materials). Instead, I got a board with much less flotation and a mediocre volume/weight ratio (not very light for the size). (By comparison, a 10' Surftech with a volume of 153.7 liters weighs about the same.) So the board doesn't get a lot of glide or paddling speed. Since it's not a very fast paddler, it doesn't pick up waves very well. Of course with a smaller paddler it would be better. But I can't make myself smaller. So the product description, and the results, are bad enough to justify a two-star rating. I'm stuck with a board that doesn't deliver what it promised. read more

Two weeks ago, getting ready for a trip to Lake Havasu for some paddling, I realized that I had procrastinated and forgot to buy some "necessities" for the trip, including a new paddle. Paddle Surf Warehouse in Dana Point called the guys in Costa Mesa on a Saturday, and gave them the list of a few things I needed. By Monday, they had everything I asked for. Better yet, they found me a rack for my boards I had been searching for, and locks for my boards, which I thought I was going to have to overnight from the manufacturer. They were awesome, and I highly recommend them. Fully stocked, full service SUP shop with more boards, accessories and other toys than any other shop I've been to. read more

Went in to check out the paddle boards. They had a large selection of boards to choose from. Mike was attentive, extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We had narrowed our choice down to 3 different boards and he pointed out the differences between the boards which helped us make the final choice.
