I've been here a few times for a beer or a quick drink since it's in the neighborhood. I enjoy the food for the most part, typical bar food and it's quick. They've got good drink specials throughout the week. However, the waitstaff is a hit or miss. Twice, specifically, Ive gone to have a quick bite between 4-6 and the bartenders (two different ladies) didn't greet us, didn't come to our table, gave us a very small cup of water and never came to refill it. Both were either hanging out with friends at the bar or waiting on the men who gave them attention instead of waiting on all of the customers in the place. Awful service. If the service was better, this would definitely be a solid 4-star place. read more

This place is a pub and sports bar with great food! The bar has $3 beer specials every day and shots specials, too, so it is always a good time even on a low budget. I have never had a bad meal here. The half pound burgers are so delicious ($4 on Mondays) and include cheese and tater tots or fries at no extra charge. The grilled chicken sandwich is delicious and I recommend it highly as are their potato skins and quesadillas. Thursday is chicken wings day (.50) and they have a trivia night. I stopped in for their Tuesday Night Open Mic and was greeted by a welcoming bartender. "A pint and a shot please" I requested and in return my order all served up with a smile. Honestly not sure what all the fuss is about. After seeing this place on Chicago's Best I decided to check it out with a group of girlfriends. What really sold us was the $4 burger deal on Mondays. Not really being a beef type of gal, I scoped the menu beforehand and noticed that the veggie burger was the same exact same price as the regular burger. I had hopes that they would honor the $4 deal on the veggie burger too, but sadly that wasn't the case. I just couldn't stand paying an extra $3 for a veggie burger, so I opted for another special instead- pulled bbq turkey sandwich for $7. Yum! NO. It was served on wheat bread?!?! The turkey itself was remarkably dry for a meat that had been smoked - which usually means low and slow resulting in moist deliciousness. The burgers that my friends got didn't look like anything special, and they affirmed that they weren't. But, they were only $4. The patty itself seemed engulfed by the bun. (Of course, I would have gladly traded them my wheat bread for their bun.) The service started out good, but got progressively worse. After the food arrived we basically didn't see him again. A friend ordered a second beer which he totally forgot about and we sat with empty waters for a good 10-15 minutes. Also- although they serve the foods in real dishes, your fork and knife are plastic. For some reason that really irks me. It was quite a challenge to cut my dry pulled turkey on wheat bread with my plasticware. The saving grace was the tater tots. I'm not usually one for tater tots but having read so many reviews about how great they are I decided to try them. Holy cow do they know how to cook some tater tots! It seems fried food is the way to go. I'll be back to try the Friday fish fry, but wouldn't come back for anything else. read more

This is my new neighborhood bar after moving in across the street. Prior to moving within spitting distance of this place, I was a few blocks away. Independence Tap used to be the neighborhood joint that I'd wander in to if I needed a drink at not home, but I discovered that you get giant portions of inexpensive food at Paddy Macs while watching the Blackhawks playoff games there (the curse of no cable!). Food - not gourmet (for example, that medium rare burger will lean toward well done), but the fish and chips are decent and nachos are always good. Also, insanely inexpensive. Beer - I can always find something on tap to drink -- solid Revolution selection, as well as some seasonals. If they run out, there's a decent can/bottle menu as well. Service - quick, polite, and friendly. But not overly friendly, either. This definitely pulls in the neighborhood crowd, so you will see the same faces every time you go there. Aside from the smattering of weird old dudes, it's not so bad. I wouldn't go here if I wasn't in walking distance or a short drive away, but I haven't had a bad time here either. read more

CASH ONLY bar. I cannot remember the last time I went to a pub that was cash only. I didn't enjoy that too much. Customer Service - 0 Stars We walked in and no one seemed to want to make eye contact with us non-regulars. It took several minutes for someone to come by even though there were only 5 other customers there at the time. I'm not sure if he was the manager, but he told this other guy to take our order. Guy number 2 said ok... but we weren't sure what to get. Guy number 1 told Guy 2 to give us a sample of Shiner beer. That was pretty nice of him! It wasn't bad. Once we tried it, we decided we'd order that. No one had given us a menu, so I went to the bar to ask for one and Guy 2 handed it to me. The burgers looked good, so once I knew what I wanted, I set the menu down on my table. We sat there for about 15 min and Guy 2 wouldn't wait on us. I finally went up to the bar and ordered. After we finished eating, he asked if we needed anything else. We said we were done. He went back to the bar and did not bring us the check. Another 5 minutes passed and Girl 1 came by and asked if we needed our bill and we said yes. No one said goodbye or thanks when we left. Food - 2 stars The best part was the side of coleslaw. I had the 1/2 lb burger. I was happy to see that it was real beef (none of that processed crap) but I did not like the way they seasoned it. It tasted like they only used black pepper and no salt. The bun fell apart. The fries were fresh, but nothing special. The tots were also not all that special. Celtic Crown kicks the pants off these fries and burgers. Drink - 2 stars The selection of bottled beer is not too wide. Mostly domestics. I love Stella, Newcastle, Dos Equis, Red Stripe... etc. They had none of those. I tried the Shiner on draft on suggestion of Guy 1. It was pretty good but nothing I'd have again. Ambiance - 1 star I know this is a pub and it's not really fancy or anything. I like rustic, old/comfy places just fine. But this place was not too inviting. The seats were uncomfortable and the table was not really a table. It looked like a very narrow countertop. It was definitely less than 2 feet wide, so it felt a bit cramped. I'm glad I tried something new, but I will not be coming here again. I will have to put up with the slowness of Celtic Crown if I want a good pub burger in the future. At least the rest makes up for it. read more

This is my neighborhood pub. Reasonably priced, solid beer selection, some good burgers, the game is ALWAYS on. This bar is always friendly and people come here for a good time. They have specials through the week on food and beverage, the occasional band, and a jukebox. During the summer they have an outdoor patio that is dog friendly, and after 9pm they usually let dogs in the main bar. In Chicago you have to have a corner bar, and this one is mine. read more

J and I both got the Veggie burger and that with those sweet tots was enough to close the deal on coming back for more! The burger was delicious and plentiful and those tots are to fight for! My fav neighborhood spot. Not only are the drinks very inexpensive but the bartenders are friendly and always treat their patrons with attention. But lets get to the food. The food here is awesome. That is what is driving this 5 star rating. When was the last time you ate tater tots? Prior to this gem of a discovery, my last time was the grade school cafeteria. But Paddy's does it right. Extra crisp and light to accompany what I believe are the most excellent burgers in all of pubdom! Go with the Paddy Burger and all your problems in the world disappear. Their buff wings are also quite phenomenal. But bottom line, you really can't go wrong here. Many times people just drink here while they wait for the food. I've been in and out of this place over the years and it has gone down hill badly. Here is a summary of why this place isn't that great. The food isn't very good. It is ok but the buns are always stale. This isn't a new problem. I mean how hard is it to get a daily bread delivery right? The service is what has really changed over the years. The blond girl who has been there for a long time is nice almost all the time but the regular guy bartender is the worst. Being a bartender is clearly not what he wants to be doing. I may not be your idea of cool buddy but at least ask me if I want another beer once in a while when I'm sitting at the bar. Also the bartenders are sometimes really drunk and I don't mean a little drunk I mean uber drunk. I think if you're not an every day regular they treat you like a second class citizen. I can't believe all the 5 star reviews for this place. Maybe we just went on an off day or something, but our food was absolutely terrible. My husband got the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was completely drenched with a "hot" sauce. It was ridiculous, the thing was dripping all over and tasted like pure vinegar. He couldn't even finish the thing because it kept falling apart due to the massive amount of sauce- yuck. My hamburger was so bland that I didn't even want to eat it all. It just tasted like pepper. My husband finished it for me after a much needed break from all that vinegar. I know I shouldn't review a bar just based on the food it serves, but we went here because of all the reviews saying how great everything tasted. Big disappointment. Their beer selection is lacking, and out of the bottled beer they do carry, they were out of 2 of them. I met up with a group of friends here on a Friday night after dinner to grab some drinks, because, well, we like to drink. I used to live in the area, so I know this is one of the better places to go in the area. It's kind of a divey bar, but a more "upscale" dive bar, that brings a little Irish pub feel to it. They have a jukebox, always a plus on a night of drinking, and a pool table and dart boards. They have a good number of tv's to qualify as a sports bar as well, as I found myself watching the World Series here and enjoyed it. I've always found their bartenders friendly, and they seem to have drink specials every time I'm there. I have yet to try to food yet, but their food reviews seem above average for a bar, so next time I'll make sure to give it a shot. Ambiance makes it feel like you've walked into a college dive bar but with people in their 30's+. Bar food, yet family friendly, but not a dining table to be found...(someone correct me on this if I'm wrong) Seating is bar stool height tables or at the bar and makes it a little more difficult if you have younger kids -- but what would you bring a kid to a bar?! The best (or only option) in my neighborhood. I live in Albany Park, just off of Montrose between Pulaski and Central Park, and there is not much in the way of nightlife around. I discovered Paddy Mac's while out and about two years ago and it is the perfect neighborhood bar. The beer prices are great and the food is very good (although I've had some not so good things there too). I love that tater tots come with the sandwiches! Pound for pound, probably my favorite Chicago hangout. My wife and I used to live in the neighborhood, as did her best friend and her then-significant other, and it was our regular meeting place. We got to know all the bartenders and they still remember us when we return. Speaking of the bartenders, I don't understand all the grief some have given them on this board... they've never been anything but attentive to everyone that I've seen come into the place, regular or otherwise. Give this place a try, you'll love it. You can sit and eat and drink for hours and pay 40 bucks with tip... crazy cheap. Basically an open kitchen as it looks like there never was a kitchen so they put installed one at the end of the bar. The neverending quest for darts: I have gone here several times and enjoy Paddy Mac's most in the summer. During warmer weather, they set up a patio area where you can sit outside and order drinks and food as the endless traffic from the Pulaski exit passes you by. The food tastes fine and the patio area is nice enough to pass a few hours by without even noticing. Inside you will find pitcher specials and a cozy little bar. In terms of darts, I have never seen a more donkinine set up. As shown in one of the pictures posted, you have a pool table with dartboards set up right over it! That's right - to shoot darts you will have to shoot over the pool table. Perhaps someone should inform management that this set up does not quite work! I will take it more as a sign that no one gives a damn about darts here, sigh.... read more

Did you know that "Chicago Style Irish Sports Bar" is an international marketing term? We take places like this for granted. You know exactly what I'm talking about. About the only thing Irish about these places is Guiness on tap. Maybe you'll find a shamrock above the bar. They're everywhere in Chicago. It's only when you leave Chicago and go somewhere like China that you really start to appreciate the "Chicago Style Irish Sports Bar". Paddy Mac's is like all the other bars in the genre except one thing, the food. The menu isn't anything special. It's how it's cooked. I have seen the same person in the open-air kitchen each of the dozen or so times I've been here. The key to great fried food is to fry it at a very high tempurature. That way the food is crisp and crunchy w/o being greasy. This guy knows how to fry! Also the portions are huge for the lowish prices. You gotta love any place you can get a good meal and get your drink on for less the $20 esp. w/ the weekly specials. Good cheap food and beer is what makes this a great "Chicago Style Irish Sports Bar"! Just make sure you leave a couple of pesos in the cooks tip jar on the way out! read more
