Believe it or not, my love wears a claddagh ring that I purchased for her when we enjoyed an amazing trip to Ireland earlier this year. So we knew we had to visit the Claddagh Ring Pub one of these days. This neighborhood pub on Foster Avenue received some interesting "pub" earlier this season when they promised to pay for all patrons' tabs if the Bears lost to the Broncos, and sure enough the Bears blew a big lead and Claddagh Ring Pub wound up on the news because of the promo. We finally made it here one random Sunday afternoon as we stumbled in after another Bears loss. The bar was pretty packed, but the owner was super friendly to us. He noted that there was a back room with some elbow room, along with some free tavern style pizza that was not gobbled up yet by the fans. Later when I went up to the bar to order drinks, he made sure that I had the chance to place a drink order with minimal waiting. What a swell guy! Loved my pint of Guinness! Perhaps we looked like newbies, but he really seemed to care about us with his customer service. Check out their website for sports specials and happy hour deals. Though we entered after a Bears game, we were able to nosh on some free game time pizza, per the owner's offer. I feel like this is a cozy neighborhood bar that embraces newbies. They have a good selection of beers, and we certainly enjoyed our quick stop for libations and unexpected free pizza. read more

Good neighborhood bar. It is a nice Irish Pub!! Then beer selection is really small limited to cans and bottles. The only daft beer is Guinness. It has good vibe. I saw a lot of people hanging that they know each other. I should come back whenever is busy and experience how fun it might be. read more

I expected that the Claddagh Ring bartenders could pour a proper pint of Guinness (they can). However - I didn't expect a whole pig roast* in the back replete with homey backyard feel, regulars that look like mom and dad (who smoke cigs purchased from the old school cigarette vending machine), picnic benches that have been around long before communal seating became trendy, a bar staff that doesn't let you wait for more than 60 seconds and an awesome rocking chair (which yes, I rocked). You know a bar's legit when the regulars swear they go nowhere else... bonafide one-bar patrons 4eva. I even made besties with Wanda, a 'mature' woman (and veritable bombshell) who enjoyed doling out some sage relationship insights... I definitely got her two cents' worth! Also unexpected - Claddagh happens to be an Eastern European hangout! Who knew... oh yeah, my friend Phil. He always does. *Insiders say the pig roasts happen on the regular during the warm months. As far as neighborhood dive bars go, this place has everything you want. Friendly bar tenders, weekly specials, TVs, darts, pool, board games, and dog friendly. Monday nights they have $1 PBR served in a chilled mug. They don't serve food, but you can order in. I've ordered pizza several times, delivered into the front door. This place is nothing fancy. I didn't know what a neighborhood bar was, until I walked into the Claddaugh four years ago. Regulars are awesome...super friendly and ever present. We also love the bartenders, especially Jamie. The TV has whatever happens to be on...often sports, sometimes news and the occasional game show. If you want a tasty shot to get you going fast, the Irish funeral is the way to go. They also serve up the latest Arcade brewery beers if you are looking for some adventure. We moved in nearby, got married, are growing our family -- and the folks at the claddaugh have shared in these joys every time we venture in. Our baby's first job (at 4 months old) was honorary bartender. It is hit or miss in terms of crowds. I prefer to miss and just hang out when things are slower. read more

This is what neighborhood bars used to be. And god do I wish there were more neighborhood bars like this. There isn't anything extraordinary about this bar, except that the clientele look like they've been going there for years ... And that is what a neighborhood bar should be. It doesn't take a Yelper to figure that out. But how can't you like a place that allows someone to bring their dog in on a leash (that's pretty crazy, but if that doesn't say neighborhood bar, I don't know what does)? Not to mention that they know how to pour a Guinness properly. Too many so-called "Irish" bars still butcher it. This place doesn't. And the price is right (3 drinks for $12.50). Factor in darts in back, a ton of TVs showing the Cubs or anything Chicago and you'll find yourself wishing your neighborhood had this bar. If not, get ye to Lincoln Park because you can't recognize a great bar when it smacks you in the face. read more

Best neighborhood bar in ravenswood! They are so welcoming to everyone who walks in the door. Bar tenders are wonderful at making drinks and serving ip coold brews. There are tv throughout and when a big game is on they pull down the big screen in the back room. In the back is the patio which is equipped for large groups and has open seating. They sponsor our kickball league on Wednesdays and are so accomodating. It is a great spot! read more

I can't speak to the night life here, but I know that they took my wife and kids in on a Sunday afternoon when we had to unexpectedly evacuate our home. They let us order in some sandwiches and were quick to get us a beer (which was totally necessary after the day we were having) Super hospitable, nothing but smiles and greetings from the bartender and the patrons...happy to have this place so close to home, we will be back under better circumstances soon! Had a beer here last night although I'm not sure how I managed to drink an entire beer after my gluttonous feast across the street at Dorado! The place really took me back to a typical English/Irish pub. It's very plain inside but had an old lived-in feel to it. My friend and I had a good time chatting with the bartender, Mike, and another woman at the bar who ordered a special drink (Absolut Wild Tea, Absolut Acai, lemonade, cranberry juice). It was an older crowd but still easy to get along with. If I lived closer, I'd go more often for sure! I wish there was a bar just like it in my neighborhood, but then I might not have any money left, haha. read more

It's a cozy little bar, typical Irish north side. Lots of regulars. The back room has decent dart boards and plent of room for your friends to gather around. I've enjoyed the few times I've been there with friends. As with most neighborhood bars, the clientel is that of the surrounding area, mixed in age, but yes... generally 30+. read more

Commonly known as "the Ring" by students, this is a great Irish pub to hang out with friends over a pint or pitcher. The place is relatively large for a typical pub and has a back area for those who want a smoke. The back section has a few dart boards and there is plenty of seating, but expect to stand if the place is packed. They have roughly five beers on draft with at least one being a Goose Island, and a large selection of mass domestics bottled. Their food menu is limited, but the main idea visiting this place is to have a drink. So if you're looking for something to do on a Friday or Saturday night, look no further than the Ring. read more

WHat has happened to one of my favorite local bars. This bar used to be my favorite neighborhood bars but not now. At least the patrons are still hilarious. They used to make the strongest drinks in Chicago. Now they are using a gigger. Are you bleeping kidding me. It is a sad day when a neighborhood bar has taken a turn for the worst. Drinks went up in price and they are now weak. I don't mind a price increase but higher price for less booze I do mind. Until that changes it is not worth going to. When they remodeled this place they stopped with the facade. My first thought after stepping in to the bar was 'the carpet doesn't match the drapes'. You think you're walking into a nice neighborhood Irish pub, but you get a dive-y, smoky, old-man bar. Don't get me wrong, I like dives, but I feel I was misled by the exterior. They have a decent beer selection, but not as many as you'd expect an Irish pub to have . I don't know if they take credit cards, but they are very clear about not allowing tabs. What bar doesn't allow a tab? There is a huge air purifyer hanging from the ceiling, but I think it's just for show - it's really smoky in there. It's a fine bar, and I'd go back, but with adjusted expectations. read more

I have only gone in during the week (maybe once on a Friday, maybe), but the bartender was very attentive and friendly, the prices were extremely reasonable and there was plenty of seating. The area in back with the darts was nice to get away from the music/game/whatever else was loud up front. It felt cozy and I'm glad it's my neighborhood bar. read more

Man oh man, i use to frequent this little pub night and day with my best friend. We came for the cheap beers and darts. This is a clean homey bar. Most nights it was pretty quiet on occasion their would be events and large parties, but everyone was friendly. Especially the bartender. Back then it was very, very smoky, almost unbearable. I haven't been there since the ban, but it seemed like every smoker on the north side was lighting up at Claddagh. I hope it still is going strong. They don't serve food but have this extensive folder of all the local delivery food joints who do. I miss those old days of darts and lolly gagging. read more

I was so happy with the phenomenal job they did for us!!! We had our engagement party here last Saturday night and it was a blast. We had the back room all to ourselves and they even made us a sign congratulating us. Michelle was wonderful in working with us to get a nice deal for drinks for our guest. She went out of her way to make sure that I got what I wanted and gave us a good price. I told her what my budget was and she helped advise me on how to stay on track. The bartenders that afternoon were wonderful, they helped all our guests and kept the music going. I would recommend their service to anyone looking for a casual spot. read more

I was in town for the first time visiting from Montreal. Walking into a neighbourhood bar coming in cold off the street can sometimes be hit or miss... I loved the place. Was told there was new ownership. I have nothing to go by with the pervious ownership but the place is great. Great beer selection and the patrons were super friendly. i like this place its just down the street from me. it's a smaller Irish bar right by the fire station. it was the day after St patricks day and it was dead just 2 other people in there. the bar tender was nice and friendly/ the Music is Jukebox if you are going to he in the neighborhood i would check it out read more
