It's been years since I've been in this place. I can remember coming in here in my 20's to hang out with friends, drink & play some pool. I was in NH visiting my Mom this past week & wanted to take her out to lunch & she told me she's never been here before. I was shocked! So Paddy's is where I took my Mom to lunch. It wasn't any ordinary lunch date, it was a "surprise we're going on a cruise to Alaska" kinda lunch!! LOL The dining room staff were all FABULOUS in helping me surprise my Mom with this. I had a cake made that told my Mom the plan & it had a cruise ship on it. See my photos. Once we were seated I went back up to the hostess stand & spoke to a young man & told him one of my friend's was going to be dropping off a cake for me & asked if my waitress could bring it out after we ate. I didn't know who my waitress was yet & he told me "no problem." I told him the key phrase to let her know when to bring it out was going to be "can I see a dessert menu." My bestie soon dropped the cake off & there was actually a different person @ the hostess stand when she arrived & they took the cake out back. My guess is the wait staff takes turns greeting & seating customers when not busy?? Our waitress was Marley. She gave excellent service to us. I even gave her way over 20% tip for helping with the cake surprise & her excellent service. We started with the spinach & artichoke dip with chips which came out fast & was hot & very tasty. I was surprised when my Mom told me she has never had this dip before. I'd say she liked it since she was cleaning the last of it out of the bowl....lol Mom had the patty melt which was just a hamburger on bread. She said it was good. I had the grilled BBQ chicken sandwich which was good, chicken was a little dry so thank God I got some mayo & BBQ sauce on the side. We both thought the fries were amazing!!! Seasoned just right. I'd like to hit this place up on a Friday or Saturday night next time I'm in town for some drinks & play some pool. Of course I'd eat here again. The fries were simply delectable and delicious. I scarfed down my plate in a matter of 10 minutes. My friends made poor choices with their meals and I had to finish it for them because it was too good for me. The veggie burger did taste a little dry but that's okay. Paddy's is located right at the entrance of the Residence Inn Marriott Portsmouth. It has a large parking lot that never gets filled and has a pretty large indoor dining area and outdoor dining area. We came here when there was little to no staff working so we had no choice but to sit at the bar and eat dinner. I got the special which was a full rack of baby back pork ribs, and a order of brussel sprouts. The food was good but not great. We had some beers and it was a pretty relaxed environment for drinks and entertainment. We played shuffle board and pool and it was really enjoyable. I think my only complaint is that they are short staffed at night and they close so early (8pm). Other then that it was a great night out and fun entertainment. Food was pretty good... always is. Service not so great. I don't need a mom telling me when I need a water. Honestly it was rude. Didn't offer me a drink but water after 2 beers. Then left us alone for an hour... Will I return? Yes probably. Because it's local and has great food. Will that waitress be there? 9/10 says no. The service switches over every 3-4 months you never get the same people and that's weird to me... but the food is solid. read more

It smells bad in there. As soon as I walked in I was grossed out but I was so hungry... We ordered steak tips, salmon and a burger. The salmon was burnt with no flavor, the mashed potatoes were soupy and salty. The steak tips were too chewy. My husband didn't get his burger as he ordered it and was served long after the rest of us were done eating. Went here with a group of 25. From the first to get served to the last was 40 minutes. I ordered a burger medium, it came well done and so dry I needed a whole beer to choke it down. The wait staff was friendly and the beer was cold. read more

Since discovering this place, we've been back 3 times in a month. Their cocktails are boozey and affordable, their burgers are JUICY, fries are well seasoned and just the right amount of crispy, salad are fresh and hearty, fish well battered and fried, and steaks actually cooked to your liking (asked for it medium-rare and actually got that!). Their staff, while not always super attentive, are super friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, one of the reasons this place is a new favorite is that it's never too busy and we never have to wait for a table. We've gone to dinner at 630pm on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday and there has never been more than 4 other parties at the restaurant (sized to hold dozens more). There are three sections to the restaurant: a lounge with pool tables and a large bar (and periodic karaoke and live music), tons of outdoor seating and a dining room. We like causal, semi-private meals when we eat out and the booths on the dining room side of Paddy's fit the bill. Give them a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed! read more

Went to paddy's yesterday, waiter was terrible, got food, no silverware, or napkins, food was terrible, i got the yard bird, definitely not fresh, the coleslaw was sour, server oh ok ill tell the kitchen, my son got paddy melt, it was gross, and he eats everything, will not be going back. 2 drink, 2 sandwiches. $95.18 craziness. The food was available for pick up as promised. The best was how clearly the containers were labeled. This is so helpful and comforting as they know the importance of getting it right. I kept it pretty simple with just a Shock Top beer that came with a orange that was about $3? (I think, I forget). Also I ordered the chicken nachos (and I believe it was around $6 but again not 100% sure). They were alright. Not the best, but not the worst. They could have increased the amount of chicken and added the toppings on top. But I understand some people want them on the side as well. So that's fine. The food was better than we expected when we pulled into the parking lot - we were shopping in Portsmouth on a very rainy December day and needed to find food. My husband and I stopped for a drink on a very busy Saturday night. Morgan was our bartender and he was very accommodating and friendly. Management however, I was disgusted with. I have been in the restaurant/ bar industry for over 14 years and never seen a manager act so unprofessional. He criticized every employee in front of customers, to the point we were uncomfortable. Managers should lead by example and support their staff. He at no point got behind the bar to help. At one point, he even went so far as to pick up dirty bar glasses, ask why they were there... and walked away. I honestly feel bad for all employees who work under him. Everyone is hiring currently and their skills would be better appreciated elsewhere! read more

This place is between 3-4 stars. It's a HUGE airport/hotel bar and we went here for lunch. It was deserted and we wanted to watch the soccer game. They initially had some issues with getting the sound but eventually they just put it on the speakers over the whole restaurant. Sorry not sorry it was the playoffs! We were there for several hours and our server was very attentive. We got the huge nachos and split several salads. The salads were average but the nachos were good. Came home and found all the ravioli had been severely burnt to a black crisp on one side, but that side was strategically facing down when I opened the container. I was staying at the Residence Inn for business for an extended period of time. On one of those days, I decided to take the receiptionist's advice and give Paddy's a try for lunch. The restaurant was pretty empty and people where slowly starting to come in more and more. I sat on the bar and ordered their Beef & Cabbage. The food took about 30 minutes to come out but once it did, it was very delicious! I had such a great lunch! The waitress/bartender was very attentive and nice. Was just in Portsmouth for work and ate at Paddy's two nights. The first night I was there I had the turkey burger. It was wonderful! Very juicy (especially for turkey), loved the rosemary tomato jam. The second night I had the steak tips. They were also very good and flavorful. It was definitely a surprise to have such great food in what seems to be a generic hotel restaurant. Paddy's is a fun and interesting place to hang out. It has kind of a hotel bar feel but the food is really good. They seem to get a lot of out of towners. It is a pretty big place so it never feels super crowded and we are always able to get a seat at the bar. They close early (8pm) on weeknights, so we only are able to go on a night where we aren't hitting the gym or shopping or something after work. I really like their salads/bowls. It was kind of confusing the first time I ordered the yard bird bowl because I felt that it didn't really spell out that it was a salad but I love salad so it worked. The salad greens always taste super fresh and crisp. The beer and booze selection are both very good. Sometimes service can be a tad slow but it is always friendly and I know how understaffed everyone is. The place is part pool hall but we have not played pool there so I'm not sure of cost or anything. They also seem to host a lot of big groups and events. I definitely recommend as we go there for dinner quite frequently. read more

Service and staff are always great. I've never had an issue with the food and they have a great selection of Pub Food like burgers and chicken tenders, awesome salads and sandwiches.
