5 Star update 5 years later: Get their espresso martini ASAP! I've been coming to this Padrino's for a few years now and dhad to update my review after I recently ordered espresso martinis and saw how they craft and serve them now out of a cafetera (aka moka pot) into a glass coffee cup. It's so unique in the presentation and made ordering a round for the table so fun and interactive! I know it takes them more time to do it this way (rather than serve at the bar and bring to the table in standard martini glasses), but the showmanship really adds to the experience. Plus- the espresso is awesome so the drink is perfectly balanced! Besides that, if it's a nice day I recommend getting a table outside. Don't be afraid to ask them to turn the music down a bit as it can be quite loud on the outside speakers and they are super kind about it. Finally, around the holidays you can order coquito and special holiday dishes for pickup and they set up a table outside to make it super easy to grab and go. Previous review: 5 Stars for a beautiful renovation and YUMMY Cuban food that works in-restaurant and for takeout! (Plus, the first Padrino's was opened in the 70s and though they have several locations not, the biz still owned by the family!) I was in town and made a group takeout order. It's been about six years since my last visit (also with the same friends!), and while I hoped this time would win me over, it still did not. I ordered the Bistec de Pollo, which came with black beans, rice, and sweet plantains. While the presentation was nice, the flavor didn't quite hit the mark for me. The chicken lacked seasoning, and the onions were grilled but could have used a few more minutes on the heat. Everyone else at the table loved their meals, so maybe it's just me. Thirteen happy senior "campers" enjoyed a delicious lunch on April 22. The manager, Isabella sat us all together at tables for four with ample space between tables. I was craving Cuban food after the Strawberry Festival in Boca and I grabbed the most basic thing I could get on the menu as a Cuban. You cannot mess up a bistec de pollo and they didn't al thought it was a bit bland. As a fast casual space for lunch, I'd take it pero not as a dining experience for a nice dinner. It is finessed to the point that it looks luxurious pero the croquetas weren't even handmade nor the platanitos. They're all boxed Catalina croquetas and Costco plantains reheated as luxurious Cuban food in a nice establishment. What I did like was that they serve Guayaba with their mariquitas and tostones and croquetas whenever you get the platter. That was such a nice touch and completely unexpected! Guayabas are very well known in Cuba and it is one of the few fruits that are abundant in the island along with Mangos. I would come here again as a Cuban born for a quick lunch and have something basic if I'm in the neighborhood like last night but I'd prefer a different Cuban restaurant to try authenticity. About a month or so ago, I met my girlfriend here for lunch. It's been over a decade since I have been here, so I was excited! They have a nicely priced lunch menu. I had the Lechon Asado, which is slow roasted pork, seasoned with citrus mojo and topped with sautéed onions. The pork was very good, especially after I added some more garlic sauce to it. The sides were moros (rice and black beans mixed together), and sweet plantains, which I requested to be well done. They allowed me to substitute my sides, too, which I greatly appreciated. It came with white rice and black beans. I got them separate. As well as fried plantains. My friend got their roast pork (lechon asado) that came with moros (mixed rice and beans) and she substituted well-done plantains for the yucca that was supposed to be another side. We both really liked our lunches. My steak was perfect cooked as requested and very tasty. I used the chimichurri sauce, of course. Her roast pork looked tender. We both ordered the limeade to drink and it came with extra lime wedges. I'd get this again, also. She took half of her lunch home for a later meal. Service was attentive and responsive. And since we were catching up and chatting, they were nice enough not to rush us from the table, either. I'd love to come back for lunch here, again.
