Our second time coming here was just as good (if not better) than our first. The food was great and the service was wonderful. They have both Spanish and Mexican food on their menu and after having tried both, I can say they do both really well. This time I had the enchiladas and they were delicious. My partner had the chicken mole which was nice and spicy. The portions are rather big so I even had leftovers for another meal. Their tamarind drink is delicious! To finish it off, we each had a special sorbet dessert which was nice and light. The waitress was extremely nice and very attentive. If there's any negative at all, you just need to find some street parking or park in the small lot they have; plus, the place is easy to miss because their sign isn't too big so keep an eye out for it. So for our monthly "we don't want to cook dinner tonight" trip to Paella's, I got the fish taco special. The first was the most perfectly cooked fish for a fish taco I've ever had, and I told the lady who runs the shop. She let us know that she's from the border town that invented the fish taco, and where she's from, they put pickles instead of lettuce on them. I'm definitely trying that next time. read more

Strolling around NJ with an insatiable hunger I stumbled into this familial restaurant. Such a major family feel in this environment, you feel like you're in someone's kitchen. I ordered the Palomilla platter, thin steak served with onions, Mexican rice, beans, and sweet plantains. Really tasty. I went to this place this afternoon for an early dinner. Very clean and nicely decorated dining room. I was the only one there and received very fast and friendly service. Live down the street and 2 years later decided to try. Grilled pork chops...amazing! Churrasco asked for medium got well, but wasn't dried out and thinking maybe since I took a while to pick it up that was the delay. Takes long, but well worth the wait! Nice family owned place. They are friendly and helpful. I always order something that's not even on the menu and they are happy to accommodate my request. I love their green sauce and I get that with shrimp enchiladas. Yum!! When I want dessert I get the Tres Leche, it's delicious. read more

So this place is like in a small corner spot along a busy road. I pass it every day as it is a few blocks from my home, but looked suspect to me like one of those places you never see anyone go eat...which I try my best to avoid. Boy was I mistaken!!! My wife decided we should try the place out and ordered the paella.....by far one of the best paella's I have ever had and this includes in Spanish restaurants (I think they are Mexican based on the menu, but haven't been in the actual establishment to confirm). So far we've had the paella twice and have not been disappointed....massive amounts of seafood and very very tasty and properly prepared. We just love little hole in walls (the anti-chains), and Paellas is wonderful bright colors, lovely service and the Food! Although the menu is small and not terribly creative (just the basics), everything that we tried was perfectly prepared and delish. We are big empanadas fans and the beef we some of the best that we have had. Not fancy, just crispy and flavorful. The garlic shrimp, palomino and flautas really satisfied. Even the refried beans and rice were so tasty that we just wanted to keep eating them (as opposed to treating them like filler like we usually do). It has to be said that this place is under appreciated and perhaps under exposed. I passed it several times without giving it much thought. They should put themselves out there more. The Food... We had two kinds of Paellas (meat and seafood) and we pigged out. They executed things quite well. The Mexican Soda was a nice touch too... The Scene: It was quiet but a cute little place. The cuisine is a part Spanish and Mexican but the look is mostly Mexican. My To Do List... * A Weekend Visit: Perhaps the weekend scene is different and would offer a different vibe. * The Churrasco: I been into steak more often lately. * Something Custom Made: I have a feeling the talent in the back can do much more than what is on the menu... particularly with the Mexican Food. NOT. they opened @ 12, we ordered takeout @ 12:30. we shared beef empanadas and they were very good. nicely filled tasty beef wrapped in a really good outer shell. then we split the chicken mole. horrible! first, the container was overflowing with a ridiculous amount of mole sauce. it was all over the place. when we took the first bite of chicken it was apparent why there was so much. it was in an attempt to mask old disgusting chicken. does this place think people are stupid? there is absolutely no excuse for selling old food. the chicken wasn't over cooked (trust me, i've over cooked chicken enough times to know what that tastes like), it was old, past its time chicken, and we threw away the ENTIRE meal. if i lived closer i would've taken it back. and the side of rice and beans they gave us was just starchy rice with a spoonful of beans on top of one of the sides giving the impression the container had both rice & beans filled equally. the 1 star is for the empanadas. i really don't understand how people love it here. 22 bucks thrown away. read more

My wife made a seemingly simple request, an affordable BYOB that is close to home with good food. I decided to give Paella Cafe a try since it seemed to fit the first 2 criteria. The first thing to be aware of is that parking can be a challenge. We parked on a side street about a block away and the signs warned that it was permit parking only. Lucky for me I didn't get a ticket. The ambiance here is modest but vibrant with Mexican artifacts everywhere. My wife immediately commented on how clean the place was (So far so good). The waitress was attentive and very kind. We started with an order of garlic shrimp that was delish. My wife had the skirt steak which came out piping hot and I had the paella Valenciana. Her steak was perfectly cooked, medium like she prefers, and my paella looked and smelled great. Not surprisingly, my paella was so fresh and tasty that I ate more than my tummy could hold. (Had to loosen up the belt). For dessert we had a coconut flan that was very nice. In conclusion, I found this affordable gem delightful and charming. This is a very nice restaurant with a unique combination of mexican and spanish cuisine. We have been there several times, trying paella, burritos, fajitas,etc. All of these were very good. The place is very clean and you can see the staff preparing the food as the kitchen is visible. The staff is extremely friendly and each time we've been there we've had a nice experience.
