I went there because I had a gift card. The place is extremely overpriced, and the service was just okay, nothing that justifies the cost. My hair is just below shoulder length, and I only have a few gray hairs, so I usually color it to match my natural shade. They charged me for both a color and an "extra color", but I only got one color, so I'm not sure what the extra was for. On top of that, they added $50 just for a blowout. When I got home, I still noticed a few gray hairs that weren't covered, and I don't even have that many to begin with. read more

I didn't actually get a cut here. I had to cancel my appointment. They charge you $37.50 when you book. I contacted them to cancel, thinking they would automatically reverse my charge, however, upon contacting them to follow up on this charge I was informed that a refund is not automatic and you need to request it. I also want to point out there is no price transparency. So, while it states the "starting price" for all their services, you could be charged whatever, so I don't really think that's the way to conduct business. I went to Pagave and got a hair cut with Teresa. From first entrance I was checked in and at the salon chair within 5 minutes, we did a dry consultation to see what I wanted. I had a few reference pictures just to make sure we were on the same page. Got washed by someone else, I can't remember her name but she was very sweet and accommodating and she always made sure I had everything I needed and what she was doing was good with me. Not sure what products were used but my hair felt amazing after the appointment. Teresa gave me the perfect cut going along with the photos I provided and made sure not to take off too much length. I went for a single process coloring. I made the appointment from the menu online which said that the single process was $75. I paid $37.50 to hold the appointment. At the appointment the colorist showed me a couple of options and I chose dark brown. After she applied color I never saw her again. She had someone else wash my hair out and comb it. The shampoo girl then told me to meet her at the checkout counter. The colorist did not even look at my hair or ask me if It was as exepcted. Once at the counter I was told that the total was $120.00. I showed her the online appointment and payment and was told that I had to have "extra colors" and so it cost more. She said that I had two processes. At no time did the colorist mention needing "extra colors". She did my entire head from the same bowl. I had a gift card and they applied that to the total then asking me for $10. I paid it but I was/am not a happy camper. I feel like this was a bait and switch and I completed the satisfactions survey that day. I waited a week to see if anyone would get back to me and nada. read more

Not impressed and found the place underwhelming. It claims to have won best of salon well maybe if you pay them off. Receptionist was on cell phone when I was ready to pay always a turn off. A true "hillbilly" salon trying to be high end. I thought it was a new salon for it was bare bones, cold, and sterile. No pictures or decor on the walls and dark, not like cozy inviting dark, but like a dungeon. The bathroom lock on door was opposite of what people are accustomed to and should be fixed or a note. Most of my haircut I had to stand which I do not like and want to sit and be pampered. All in all the stylist was nice and I am glad to have finally had my haircut. read more

I have thought long and hard about writing this, but...I really do not like my haircut or the experience that I had at Pagave. First, the salon called and asked me to push back my 3:30 to 3:45 because the stylist was running late. When they called me back for a shampoo, it was 4:00. Here's the thing, I have curly wavy hair and I came to Pagave specifically for a Deva cut. They always start dry. I also thought it was unusual because I had never met the stylist before. She had no idea what my hair looked like dry and no idea what I wanted. I asked to talk to the stylist before washing and she agreed to do a dry Deva cut, but the experience was uncomfortable. There were moments when it felt like the stylist was randomly chopping my hair off. After the shampoo she applied product and left me under the hood dryer (a common Deva practice). The product she used, however, was way too heavy for my hair which the stylist described as "fine." Essentially, my waves have been cut off, and I am left with a messy, misshapen bob that does not play nicely. I really wanted to develop a relationship with a stylist who could help with my cuts and with my hair, but I do not think it will be with this stylist. I have deliberately withheld the name, please be really clear and listen to your instincts if you go. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. My stylist ruined my hair! Went in to do a color and it turned out nothing like discussed. She bleached so much of my hair. It was orange, uneven, brittle, and frizzy. Emailed salon with pictures and never got a response. Disappointed with the experience and customer service. I had to get a box dye to fix it the next day so I wouldn't have to show my face in public with my hair like that. Update: emailed salon again and no response. Looks like I'm going to have to make the drive back. Poor customer service Update: the salon refused to issue a refund. The owner I dealt with was extremely rude. I will be telling everyone I know not to go there. They've already lost business from several of my friends and family members. I strongly recommend going somewhere else for your hair needs. I'm a stickler for service. Big time. But I'm also super loyal to a place that treats me like a valued customer. That's why I will never leave Erin at Pagave. I have been Erin's client for the better part of a decade and followed her here from another salon. I see her monthly for eyebrow waxes and when my personal financial situation was better (i.e. before I became a stay at home mom) I went for facials every 6-8 weeks. I get compliments on my eyebrows ALL THE TIME. It's such a random thing for which to be complimented, but that's what people say to me. I have never, in the entire time I've been Erin's client, had a single issue with unsanitary conditions. There is a sink in every wax room at Pagave (I have been in them all, being a monthly client), and the wax she uses was a product developed for surgeons to remove hair from patients. Finding somewhere new to get your hair cut/colored is ALWAYS traumatic. Even with all the "Best of Delaware" ratings Pagave has received, your experience here will be no different. My first experience here was traumatic. The girl who cut/colored my hair barely asked me questions before she started slathering on the color and then chopping away. Thankfully, the color turned out ok, but the cut ended up making me look like a soccer mom (sorry, soccer moms...but that's just not my style)...she didn't do what I asked for at all. I have to be somewhat trusting, because when I take my glasses off I'm blind, so I can't see what they're doing until they're done...and I was really unhappy. The next time I went, my experience was completely different. The guy who did my hair asked lots of questions and did a WONDERFUL job. He also recommended some local restaurants, etc. which I really appreciated! I will definitely go back to him! The salon has some weird rules, like you can't include a tip in your credit card payment (so bring some cash), and they "don't do cash" at the counter, so if you forget to leave the tip with your stylist, you have to bring it back to their station. Expect to pay Salon prices for your services ($40 plus for a cut, $125 plus for cut and color), but their staff is large and varied enough that you will be able to find someone you are happy with. read more

I hate getting my haircut. I'd rather go to the dentist. As a result, I go way too long between haircuts and getting my highlights done, and this time I'd cut my own bangs pretty dreadfully. The salon is spacious and comfortable (I hate when it's just packed with people...I like having a little personal space when I'm hanging out with in foils and all...) The service was very nice but not fussy or overbearing. The stylist seemed to get what I wanted right away. Often they'll just ask an open ended question, and I kind of babble incoherently, because I am not a stylist and don't know what I'm talking about. But this was very efficient and I immediately felt at ease. The foils went relatively quickly, as did the cut. It's one of the best haircuts I've gotten. Brazilians deserve their own reviews, because it's a very personal treatment that is not specific to the spa or salon, but to the aesthetician that performs them. And frankly, one recommendation is not enough. Too many ladies settle for their first or second experience, and I want it as comfortable and clean as I can find. That being said, this review is for the spa - specifically the Brazilian side of my experience here. First off, Pagave is a great salon up on 202 in a quaint shopping center off of the interstage. Easy location - easy to find. I got to my appointment early, so I had time to browse the cute jewelry selection they have in the waiting area. I ended up purchasing a pair of gold earrings for New Years. The waiting area is SO comfortable. Comfy couches, up-to-date magazines, plenty of retail items to browse. The front desk service was mediocre, honestly. It took them a minute to acknowledge me, and I was trying to be friendly and didn't get any personality back. At the end of my service, I had to put my tip in a box and couldn't even find my aestheticians box at first. It was weird. Whatever... That's the only reason there isn't a fifth star, but based on other reviews, it doesn't seem like they care about that part. On to the important stuff: The service itself. I'm downright picky about how who I recommend for Brazilian waxing. It seems I've made a habit of trying out places just so I can compare techniques to others. I was out of town and without contact info for my last local aesthetician, so I poked around difference websites before deciding on Erin at Pagave for my next Brazilian. I was first impressed that there was no Enya music. Forget that shiz-nit. I was so glad to hear some rock music playing softly in the background. While I probably would've preferred she leave the room while I changed, she was very chill and professional, so it wasn't a big deal. After all, she would be giving me the most intimate treatment available (at a licensed, reputable salon). With Erin, it's fast and clean. I read that she is a speed-waxer that could provide a 10-minute Brazilian, which I was originally skeptic about in terms of pain and thoroughness. And while it might not have been exactly ten-minutes, it was darn-well fast and way less-painful than any other Brazilian I have ever gotten. She talked me through exactly what I wanted and in no time, I was out the door. I was sore for the rest of the evening, which really brought me down. I've never been this sore before! She's a good conversationalist, though. We chatted about this and that; she is a pretty cool girl. Definitely one of the best that I have experienced. From the customer service on the phone ... to the gals at the Front Desk ... to the Assistants ... to the Stylists / Colorists / Aesthetician / Nail Techs ... it's perfection! Salon location: Close enough to the highway that you're not on 202 for too long if you're not from the area. At the back corner of the Independence Mall with plenty of free parking. Spa: The spa atmosphere is calming and relaxing, although it is not the biggest space (two pedicure chairs, 3 or 4 rooms for massages/facials/waxing and a bathroom) it is secluded and you can not hear one thing from the outside busy salon chatter or noise! Salon: The front desk staff is accommodating and helpful at all times. There are always cookies/pastries, hot tea, water, and coffee available. For Christmas they gave mugs to all their clients! There's a separate salon bathroom. Eyebrows: I have thick natural eyebrows. I like when an esthetician knows how to arch, shape, and clean a natural looking/sometimes dramatic line. (no thin or straight eyebrows over here!) Erin is *amazing*. She honestly does incredible work, while she will ask you what you like, and how comfortable you are with wax(although her mixture is technically not wax, it's an organic mix of something). She has the ability to see what your eyebrows could look like 3 months from now - and can work you towards a goal or give you a one day makeover! Her work is truly one of a kind. I usually never like how my hair looks after a cut. I am new to Delaware and discovered Pagave on Yelp for eye brow waxing. After a few visits for waxing, I decided to have my hair done. As I said, I never like my haircuts so I had low expectations. I asked for a more experienced stylist and was paired with Paul Van Liew...It was probably the best haircut of my entire life. I have been beaming ever since I left the salon. He asked me questions before my hair was washed and I showed him a picture of what I wanted.... He nailed it! I visited here in June for a Brazilian wax with Erin. Her reviews were great and she was highly recommended. I am an experienced waxer and was looking for a salon in DE. I just returned to the area from Chicago. Sadly, my experience was not the best. First issue....no gloves. I was pregnant when I was waxed and did not notice the lack of gloves until midway through. Long story short, I left with over 30 ingrown hairs and 2 infected hair follicles and needed to use antibiotic cream. My doctor said my wax looked like "Rice Krispies". I spoke to the managers and Erin. Both were apologetic and offered a refund via mail. Erin offered a free facial. But being the germaphobe that I am, I could not take her up on that offer. I couldn't let her work on my face if she doesn't wear gloves for brazilians. It took multiple texts to Erin and over a month to actually get my refund and when I got it, it was less than what I paid. $55. I know I paid $60 or more. NOTE: they did not address the lack of gloves (is that considered sterile?) or a month long wait on a refund. read more

As a former New Yorker who could practically trip over a clean, relaxing and current salon experience, I had to kiss a few frogs, so-to-speak, before I landed on Erin Draper at Pagave in Wilmington, DE. The first test always comes in the form of the ever-elusive, non-traumatic Brazilian bikini wax. Erin is clean, concise, and non-chalant at the same time. She can be conservative, or go for the gold--whatever your level of comfort is, she manages to achieve it. Next, I tried her facials. First of all, her music is as relaxing as it is hip. No birds chirping and crickets set to pan-flute from my girl. Her product line, on the other hand, is pulled straight out of mother nature's backyard and only hits the lab for a brief exercise in how to penetrate the skin effortlessly in order to do its job. I highly recommend her technique, as well as her products--which btw, she will not try to shove down your throat shamelessly as has been my experience at other salons. My personal fave would have to be her eyebrow art. I don't know what else to call it, because "eyebrow wax" doesn't seem to cover her performance properly. Wax, yes. Then individual plucking, masterful thinning when necessary, trimming, arching, coloring to make your eyes pop--you name it, she sees it, and it never seems formulaic either. Some days, she says, "You absolutely do not need to color them. They are the perfect shade for your hair color and skin tone right now." And darn it, I believe her! Not to mention the fact that I tend to look miraculously five years younger when she's finished. I'm forty...it matters. Ok, is this a fan-girl review? It's getting there, but hey, I'm a big fan. And why not? Erin can also tell you where to meet singles, find the best seamstress, which days your favorite outlet stores restock their merchandise, and a whole host of other useful nuggets in the Delaware area. My brows needed some serious TLC - previous estheticians had stripped away their natural, full shape.
