I came here last year. He gave me an anti anxiety I've taken before and that had intolerable side effects. He told me to take it again. I do, it didn't go well, had to leave work because of it. A year later I'm still in pain, I get referred back here. He tells me to take Meloxicam daily, and to take it with less than 4000 mg of Tylenol daily, for a synergetic effect, and my organs will be fine. They also left patient PHI on their computer in the consultation office for their patients for the day. Also. The doctor drives a cybertruck with advertising for this clinic. Just, know that. He doesn't listen. He's respectful, but he doesn't listen. He doesn't ask enough questions. He told me the Stellate Ganglion Block procedure is more risky than an epidural steroid injection in my spine. Wouldn't be here if my insurance were any better. read more

Absolutely without any doubt I would recommend this group to anyone that is seeking an honest opinion and treatment for discomfort. I have been dealing with pretty severe discomfort for a little while. I explained today Dr Mahrou, he immediately determined my ailment and gave me all of my options. I was given the pros and cons of all options and I was given ample time to ask all my questions. I did not feel Rushed and ultimately, with guidance made a decision I am happy with. Doctor Mahrou is wonderful, he has truly helped me with the pain I suffer from daily and Christina from the front office staff is fantastic. This review is SOLELY for the billing department, who have made account errors previously on my balance... However, in order to wave a "no show fee" (which I spoke to the front office about on the day of my appointment) from last month, when I suddenly had to travel to Wyoming for my 18 y/o HS senior cousins funeral, she asked for PROOF of the funeral. So I had to SHOW picture proof, of the funeral.... Then they requested payment for 2 prior appointments, which I stated I was not sure if I had paid yet. I knew I owed one and asked for my statements so I could reconcile them against my own accounts to be sure, which apparently was a HUGE deal to request. After 45 minutes they still had not been able to provide the statements, which once checked and confirmed I would have had no problem paying what was owed. A second lady from billing then came out and rudely began demanding payment, these payments were a month apart from each other and in between them I had made a payment So clearly I would have made the payment, I just asked to review the account, as personally I do not just pay things blindly when I am unsure of what is owed. This same lady then started stating I had "multiple no shows" and that is their issue with me. They referred to an occasion in 2019, and occasion in 2020, and then this occasion. I had to walk out of the office because the "billing manager was overwhelmingly rude" Upon consultation of my notes, I had previously provided proof of a hospitalization in 2019 on the date of my missing appointment and in 2020 the missed appointment was on the date my brother died suddenly (which I can also provide proof and pictures of. So if you're human, and have human things happen in your life, I do not recommend this office. I unfortunately don't have many other options currently to switch as it takes time, but have already sent a message to my PC office in order to get a referral to a new doctor. So I went to Dr Mahrou for a procedure in his in office clinic. After I was dressed and ready to go in for the procedure the Dr comes over to my bed and rudely tells me that he can only do one half of the procedure (he was supposed to work on both sides of my lower back) because he was not sure if insurance would cover it. He did not answer my question as to why he did not tell me this in advance. He and his co-doctor (I am not sure of his name) started yelling at me telling me and my husband that we must agree to pay for the part of the bill that insurance does not cover. This want on for about 5 minutes or so. OMG. Dr Mahrou was beyond rude, insulting and verbally abusive. I am sure that their are great doctors out there. He is not one of them. read more

I went to Pain Care Providers because I have a HMO plan and everything Kaiser does is so slow. I paid the $350 happily if that meant I could be seen right away. I have a chronic sciatic issue and a upper spine pinched nerve. Kaiser is great just slow. I saw the doctor and he told me he would not do anything for me that Kaiser could do. He took my money and told me Kaiser does not the equipment then he will help me. I then received another bill from the lab they use for $100 for a simple urine analyses. This urine test usually cost $5 from a pharmacy or my previous doctors include it in the office visit. Maybe this place is ok if they are in your plan, but for me I just spent $450 for nothing. I wasnt a big fan of this office. I was referred here after a car accident, when I was in a great deal of pain. My first visit took almost two hours. I saw the doctor for about 10 - 15 minutes. The staff at the front desk barely talk to you, and are severely rude when they do. Both times I was in this office, no one acknowledged me at the front desk. I was handed paperwork on my first visit without a word even said to me. People in the waiting room were constantly complaining they needed to be seen immediately. My OPINION is there are a lot of pain medication addicted people that go here, and dont mind if they sit all day, as long as they get their drugs. Dr. Rafizad has terrible bed side manner and does not communicate well with his patients. If you can avoid going to see him for your pain. When going to the doctors for any reason we should be treated well and our needs should be first but that is not how Dr. Rafizad is, he was very rude, had terrible bed side manner with me, and didn't communicate how doctors are supposed to communicate with their patients.. I highly recommend Pain Care Providers to anyone with really bad physical problems. Dr. Mahrou takes the time to listen, and goes over your MRI's and X-Rays very thoroughly. What I really appreciate is that he explains procedures in detail, but in a way a non-medical person can understand. When my longtime doctor told me he was going to retire, it threw me for a loop. Christina took my call, and I was impressed by her professionalism as she booked an appointment for me. When I first got to his office, I could tell Dr. Mahrou was a high level practitioner; the people in the waiting room were suffering from some very, very serious illnesses that I don't think a lot of physicians would be able to take on. What I noticed right away was how kind, and patient, Christina and the rest of the staff were to their clients. They made an extra special effort to treat them with compassion and dignity. If nothing else, this truly impressed me, and I felt confident I'd be treated well as a patient. I've been very happy with how things progressed for me; Dr. Mahrou suggested a topical cream as a treatment that's been very helpful and provided an immediate measure of relief for my joint pain, especially with my neck. Dr. Rafizad saved my life! I had come to see Dr. Rafizad after a near crippling procedure from a perivious pain managmemnt doctor. I have a severe stinosis on my lower back. I was in horrible shape and in unbearable pain plus I was in a wheel chair and in talks with surgeons about surgery. Plus I was on optiates that weren't doing anything but making me loopy and unpresent emotionally. Dr. Rafizad is the most compassionate, professional, empathetic, understanding and wonderful doctors I have ever met. I was terrified at my first visit but, Dr. Rafizad calmed my fears and gave me a lot of confidence in him that he knew exactly what he was doing and that he was going to give me the best care he could! After three injections, I have no more siacica pain, my right leg isn't chronically completly numb anymore and I can live my life with hope and confidence again, I've started going back to school! I still have pain in my lower back but, it's completly bareable! I follow doctor's instructions of don't carry heavy things, limit bending and hunching ext. I still take meds but their not opiates or narcotics anymore. Even then I take my pain med and muscle relaxor when I need them. Which isn't even everyday. His staff is wonderful as well. Dr. Rafizad is a bit of a travel for me since I'm in Garden Grove and he's in Irvine. But, he's worth it! His staff is very nice, professional and is very timely with calls or with other doctor offices requests for information. I have had some mixed emotions about this place, the staff is very nice and pleasant. However, I get the feeling they are all about the Insurance money. A coupe of years ago I had them ask me "have you taken morphine?" and I can't even take morphine, it causes really bad headaches for me. NOW, they wont see me on a cash bases one time (Yes I asked for ONE visit, till my new insurance and new doctors are settled.) They wont see me, only want INSURANCE after i have been going there for years. WOW!! Way to leave me hanging!! I LOVE these two doctor's, they are one of a kind. You do NOT sit in the waiting room for longer than 5 min (if that). When you're in the office with the doctor's they always make you feel as if you're the only person that matters, time isn't an issue & you'll NEVER see them with a clip board in their hand while they are in the room with diagnosing your pain. I have been seeing Dr. Reza Mahrou for about a year and a half now, and I would highly recommend him to anyone suffering from acute or chronic pain! He truly is THE BEST physician I have ever had. If my health insurance ever changes, I will make sure I choose one he takes so I can continue to come here. I can find another primary care physician, etc. but I highly doubt I will come across another pain management specialist as good as Dr. Mahrou! I have suffered from chronic cervical neck pain that has increased over the last 10 years or so (it started when I was a teenager). I went to countless doctors throughout this time, but they all wrote me off and sent me home since I was "too young to be having these problems." Dr. Mahrou takes time to actually listen and discuss options with you. He truly has such a great bedside manor and you can tell he genuinely cares about his patients. I had gone all these years without knowing why I had this aggravating pain, and could not find a doctor who was willing to send me for testing to try and help figure it out. A few of them saw that I was in my early 20s and automatically accused me of drug seeking before I was even assessed. All I wanted was someone to listen and help me find a diagnosis and treatment plan. FINALLY I came and saw Dr. Mahrou, and he did just that! He does not just throw drugs at his patients without discussing long-term goals/options, which I like. I am a Registered Nurse, so I can be critical of the way some doctors run their practices and treat their patients, but I do not have one bad thing to say about this office - and I am almost too honest and open sometimes, but I still have no complaints. The staff is always nice and welcoming, I very rarely have to wait more than 5-10 minutes tops to be seen. This is not because he rushes through appointments at all, but because they know what they are doing. I never feel like he is trying to hurry me out of the office. Hi I had a major accident at work 1987 they told me I need surgery I waited till 2008 it failed . I have had previous back surgery and injections. I was rear ended in a bad car accident two years ago and my back had gotten quite a bit worse - larger extrusions. While considering surgery, it's a difficult option for me, I'm a mom of two small children and am able to stay active despite the pain. The surgeon I saw referred me to try an injection first. My initial appointment with Dr. Rafizad was great. He listened to my concerns and went over everything in detail. A previous injection out of state flared my back up and Dr. Rafizad altered the quantity of medication to try and avoid that. I was so impressed with how efficient the team was. Dr Rafizad and his team are professional and extremely qualified to diagnose and manage pain. I injured my neck 8 years ago and developed spinal stenosis with related pain issues. I just got done with a very frustrating runaround with the scheduler from this facility. Even though my insurance does not require it, they are insisting that I go to my primary care doctor to have TWO visits and take x-rays for an issue the PCP will not generally treat. As an athlete, I have a fairly good understanding of what is going on with my body and what the PCP is qualified (or willing for that matter) treat. It is disappointing that even with GOOD insurance, the obstacles that are put in place to get better. I guess I will need to search elsewhere for relief. read more

BEWARE - horrible doctor! I went to Dr. Mahrou with leg pain. After a few questions he said he did not know what the problem was and proceeded to offer to deaden the nerves in my leg. He said he intended to burn the nerve and stated, "You won't be able to feel your leg, but you won't have the pain anymore." I refused and went to physical therapy instead. In physical therapy I was diagnosed with Piriformis Syndrome and all I needed was massage and stretching. Dr. Mahrou should have his license removed! Beware, he is quick to give pain killers, but does nothing to help the real problem. read more

I was in a car accident several years ago resulting in several surgeries, one of which failed resulting in chronic pain. My first appt was with Dr. Rafizad, even tho I was told it was with Dr. Mahrou, either way I don't think that mattered much. The staff, is well below par. They called me and said they were going to email me the new pt. paperwork, a week went by and I had not received my paperwork, so a few days before my appt. I call their office and get told by the rude staff person, that I will just have to come in 15 minutes earlier for my appt. to fill out the paperwork, because it is now too late to send me the paperwork. REALLY? so now I have to leave work earlier because they can't or won't do their job! I don't think so. I get to their office and first question I'm asked is if I filled out my paperwork, I said no, you guys didn't send it to me. The receptionist said well you have to fill it out then, no kidding, like I didn't freaking know that. Then some lady comes out and hands me a cup, no words exchanged just here here's a cup with a lid on it(yes it was for a sample). The staff was so busy chit chatting with one another that they couldn't be bothered to explain, not like I didn't know what it was for, but come on how about some common courtesy? Good Grief, I don't think I've been around more incompetent people in my life and the fact that I have to pay them a co-pay to be treated like this...I finally see the Dr. and he's like okay we are going to send you for X-rays and get you going in physical therapy. So I'm thinking I'm going to get paperwork for therapy??? Silly me, that's what I get for thinking. Nope, nada, nothing. I went to my primary care Dr. to be referred to physical therapy because his STAFF knows how to handle paperwork and get people taken care of unlike this joke of a place, PAIN Care Providers. My primary Dr. asked me how I liked Dr. Rafizad, I said he was ok, but the staff was ridiculous and he asked me if I'd like to see a new Dr. You betcha, I sure as heck don't EVER want to go back to this office again. I am no longer a patient due to personal financial issues, but I will say that Dr. Mahrou was great. He never just wrote a prescription and sent me on my way. He discussed with me different methods for relieving the pain (broken arm, elbow, dislocated knee and back issues!) and made sure the methods used worked. My waiting time to see the doctor was not always done in a "timely" matter, but nothing so bad that it caused alarm. Calling in for an appointment can be a challenge. You are able to leave a message and I would say that 80% of the time my calls were returned. But, the quality of care by the physicians go unquestioned. I am hoping to return once things work out.
